Transport, accommodation, and great spots for a month in Cambodia
Hello!
We’re heading to Cambodia for a month in March. We’re planning to visit Phnom Penh, Battambang, Siem Reap, the Angkor temples, Kompong Luong, then head down to Kampot, Kep, and finish our trip on the islands of Koh Rong. Has anyone done this trip recently?
Any great spots to recommend? Neighborhoods to stay in Phnom Penh (lively but not too touristy)?
Tips for getting around between the major cities—bus, train, boat, motorbike?
Thanks for all the advice!

Mekong River Cruise Prices
Hi there, I’m planning a trip to Southeast Asia and would love to do a cruise on the Mekong. The thing is, I’m finding surprisingly little info on the topic—way less than I expected. Especially when it comes to prices, the few times I’ve managed to get a quote without doing a full booking simulation (and even then, I didn’t succeed), the costs seem way too high for me (500 €/night is way out of my budget).
Ideally, I’d love to travel the river cruise by cruise, country by country. 😇
But I’ve heard that even with an unlimited budget, it wouldn’t be possible—if only because of the dams in certain areas. And well, my budget is far from unlimited... 🤪
Cambodia? Yes, please. Laos? Yes, please. 🙂 500 €/day? No way. 🏴☠️
Has anyone here cruised the Mekong on a modest budget but with decent comfort (so you’re not counting the minutes until you dock...)? If so, which part of the river? 😐

What to see and do in Battambang in August for a photography enthusiast?
Hi there,
It’s all in the title. I’m starting to think about my destination for summer 2026, and Cambodia is currently at the top of my list. Among the spots frequently mentioned for a 2- or 3-week trip to Cambodia, Battambang comes up often. However, so far, I haven’t found any truly remarkable features that would justify spending 2 or 3 days (including travel and visits) in this city during a 3-week stay, especially since I’m primarily looking for stunning photography spots—whether natural landscapes, urban scenes, or architecture. Where can I find some enlightening documentation on Battambang to help shift my perspective? Sorry for exposing my ignorance about this city like this, but all the photos I’ve seen online and the travel journals I’ve read don’t really showcase what makes it appealing, even though the descriptions suggest it’s very charming.
Thanks for any insights you can share!

Does anyone know if it's possible to travel from Thailand to Cambodia by boat? If so, where do the boats depart from and arrive, and can you get a Cambodian visa on arrival?
Thanks (and happy travels)!

Information about Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri regions
Hi,
I’m heading to Cambodia for a month in November. I’d like to visit the Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri regions on my trip. Could anyone give me some info about these areas? Transportation, trekking (is it tough?), and other tips. I’m looking to travel to non-touristy spots.
Thanks

Buying a bike in Cambodia
Hi everyone,
We’re planning a trip to Cambodia from November 30 to December 21, 2025.
We haven’t decided yet whether we’ll land in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
We’re thinking of covering between 800 and 1,000 km by bike, but we’d rather not bring our trusty rides all that way.
Has anyone here already tried buying bikes locally? Do you know if it’s easy to pick one up once we’re there?
We’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have.
Thanks so much, everyone!
New Phnom Penh Airport
Hi,
In Phnom Penh, a new international airport called Techo (code KTI), located about thirty kilometers south of the city, is set to open this year and will replace the current one (code PNH). From this new airport*, flights are already scheduled starting in September to Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Xiamen, and Fuzhou (not all daily).
* Located here: 11° 21′ 46.5″ N, 104° 54′ 59.8″ E A newly built highway spur from National Road 2 will lead there.

Do I need a visa for Cambodia if I'm transiting at the airport?
Hi everyone,
I booked my round-trip ticket from Paris to Phnom Penh (way too quickly, of course) because I’d like to start in Laos. I’m traveling from November 5th to December 3rd. So, I’m wondering: when I arrive in Phnom Penh on the 6th and take a flight directly to Laos without leaving the airport, do I still need a visa for Cambodia? Also, which airport in Laos would you recommend—Luang Prabang or Vientiane?
Thanks so much for your advice!

What itinerary for 3 weeks in Cambodia?
So, my flight tickets have just been booked for a trip to Cambodia from November 4th to 27th, 2025.
I’ll be traveling solo and want to explore this amazing country while getting a bit off the beaten path.
I’m arriving in Phnom Penh and also departing from Phnom Penh.
My goal is to travel as much as possible by bus and scooter.
What itinerary would you recommend?
What are the must-do things?
I’m open to all tips and info.
Thanks in advance for your help and responses.
Travel time from Koh Rong to Phnom Penh
Hi there,
I’d love to hear about your experiences getting back from Koh Rong to Phnom Penh. I saw that by plane it takes 3h30 with a layover in Siem Reap, so no thanks—I was thinking of taking the bus. How much time should I allow between leaving Koh Rong Island by ferry and then the bus, so I can plan my return to France? Or is a taxi an option? Thanks for your tips!
Cambodia Itinerary Questions for February
Hi there,
We’re heading to Cambodia for 15 days in February 2026. We’ll spend 3 nights in Siem Reap for the Angkor temples, then check out the floating markets. I’d love to know if Battambang is worth the detour. If so, we’re thinking of taking a ferry across the lake, staying one night, and then flying to the islands for the second week. Which islands would you recommend—Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem—or is there another that’s better for relaxation, downtime, and snorkeling? Thanks for your tips!
4-week backpacking trip in Cambodia and Laos
Hi there...
I’m traveling with a friend for a month in November.
We booked our round-trip tickets from Paris to Phnom Penh, and yes, I know—it was a mistake. We should’ve flown out of Laos, but here we are.
But is it doable to backpack through both countries in a relaxed way?
I’ve seen that the transport takes a while...
Thanks so much for your replies.
Trip to Cambodia in August: good idea despite the monsoon?
Hi there,
We’re thinking of heading to Cambodia in August for two weeks with our three older kids (after considering Sri Lanka, Malaysia, etc.). We know it’s the rainy season, but the kids are a bit worried they won’t enjoy the trip. They’d love to end with two or three nights by the sea, but I’ve read that the weather can be even worse on the islands. For those who’ve visited Cambodia in August—would you still recommend it? Given that, apart from Thailand, we haven’t had the chance to take them on any long-haul trips yet... And with three young adults/older teens? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Singapore Airlines Pricing
Hi everyone!
It feels really strange to be back on Voyage Forum after such a long time.
A quick question for the pricing experts out here 😉
I’ve been running some simulations for a Singapore Airlines flight, and I found THE perfect one for me! But here’s the thing: the simulation for 1 passenger is 978 €, and for 2 passengers, it jumps to 2,208 €. Where do those extra 252 € come from?
Yeah, I know I could book two separate reservations...
Thanks for your insights...

Back from Cambodia – between the magic of Angkor and the serenity of Tonlé Sap
Hello everyone!
I just got back from a little trip to Cambodia, and I really wanted to share this experience with you—because honestly, it was wow from start to finish. I set my bags down in Siem Reap, and even though I knew the temples would be amazing… I wasn’t expecting that much beauty.
Angkor Wat, of course, is THE classic, and you quickly understand why. I went super early in the morning to see the sunrise (yes, 4:30 AM wake-up, and no complaining 😊), and I don’t regret a second of it: that soft light, the silhouettes of the towers in the mist… you feel so small. I also loved Bayon, with its mysterious faces, and Ta Prohm, overrun by giant roots—guaranteed Tomb Raider vibes, but without the crowds of Lara Croft.
What I found amazing is that beyond the big temples, there are plenty of quieter, almost forgotten spots where you can sit, listen to the birds, and just soak in the moment. It was hot (really hot!), so I didn’t hesitate to take breaks in the shade with a nice cold mango juice.
For nature, I took a little trip to Tonlé Sap Lake. Very different, more raw, but super interesting. The floating villages are surprising—it makes you think about life at the rhythm of the water, and I was lucky enough to chat a bit with a local thanks to my guide. Authentic, simple, and touching. And then those kids rowing like pros in plastic boats… respect.
In short, this trip did me so much good. Landscapes that filled my eyes, sincere smiles, and that feeling of having brushed against something bigger, something older. Cambodia—I’m not really leaving it behind; I’m bringing a little piece of it with me.
If you’re hesitating about going: just go for it! And if you have any practical questions, I’d be happy to chat 😊
