Looking for Motorcycle Riders for a Trip to Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
See you soon

Flight ticket prices for Japan in autumn
Hi,
I was thinking of going to Japan in October, but the prices are currently insane—direct flights from Paris to Tokyo are around 1600-1800 €! Is it always like this, or is it just because I’m planning too far ahead? Thanks

Driving to India via Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Silk Road
hello fellow travelers
For my golden years, I'd like to drive to India in my 508. I want to avoid Iran and Pakistan. Instead, I’m thinking of going through Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, then taking the ferry from Baku to Türkmenbaşy in Turkmenistan, followed by the Silk Road through Central Asia—Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
After that, China? I’ve seen that some travelers manage to drive through China with their own vehicle... Then Tibet, Nepal, and India... But things get tricky with the Himalayan crossing. I’ve checked on Google—it looks tough.
Any tips or info on these routes? Thanks

Preparing for France to Nepal by Bike
I have 5 months left to prepare for the most ambitious project of my life...
In 5 months, I’ll hit the road, heading to Nepal. Not by plane. Not by train. But by bike.
13,000 km, 18 countries crossed. Powered only by my legs, my will, and a dream.
This journey isn’t just a physical challenge. It’s:
🌍 A human and cultural adventure, meeting locals, landscapes, and traditions. 🌱 A meaningful project: discussing climate change and, above all, listening to those who experience it daily. 🔥 An inner quest, to push my limits and inspire others to step out of their comfort zones. A message of hope for self-discovery.
I have 20 weeks left to: ✅ Finalize my route ✅ Gather the budget and equipment ✅ Sort out the logistics ✅ And most importantly… find committed sponsors to bring this adventure to life.
Any help is welcome!

Silk Road from France by 4x4 with camper cell
Good evening,
We’re a couple in our fifties thinking about heading to Asia from France in a 4x4 with a camper cell (duration not set yet).
Is this doable or totally unrealistic given the current situation?
The route isn’t finalized yet, but it’d look something like this:
Crossing Europe / Turkey - Georgia - Azerbaijan (Baku / Alat) - Caspian Sea ferry Baku - Aktau (Kazakhstan) - crossing Kazakhstan - Kazakhstan-China border (Khorgos / Dostyk) - Central Asia / China, then continuing to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
First, I’m just looking for info before fully committing to the project. I’ve found some trip reports from a few years back, but nothing recent… Thanks for your help! Nathalie

Traveling to Asia without flying – looking for travel companions!
Hi there,
I’m Nicolas, I’m 27, and I’m planning to head to Asia without taking any flights starting from early 2026 (mostly by train, then buses or ferries for some parts). My trip will last several months (between 8 to 10 months). I’m not necessarily looking for someone to join me for the entire journey, but rather someone who can travel with me for part of the way.
Honestly, this is the part that makes me the most nervous. The current global geopolitical situation makes this trip a bit more complicated, especially when it comes to choosing between going through Russia (faster but maybe less psychologically comfortable) or Turkey → Uzbekistan (more logistically challenging), with the goal of reaching China in either case.
So if you’re up for the adventure, feel free to reach out!
I’ve read a lot of trip reports from people who’ve already done this, but if you have any tips to share, don’t hesitate!

Thailand trip: What to do if visa-free stay drops from 60 to 30 days?
Hey everyone, hope you're doing well! :)
I’m planning to go back to Thailand at the start of next year—once just wasn’t enough 😅
I’ve seen that nothing’s official yet, but they’re considering reducing the visa-free stay from 60 to 30 days. If I book for 58 days like last time and they change the rules last minute, what happens?
It takes forever to get a visa—I saw you have to prove you have enough funds to cover your stay. How much money do you need in your account?
Thanks!
Crossing Iran by motorcycle
Hi there,
I’m planning to head to Asia by motorcycle in September. I’d like to know if it’s still possible to cross Iran...
If not, what other routes might be feasible in the fall?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

France-Mongolia Road Trip: Which Route to Choose?
For the first quarter of 2026, I’m planning a 4x4 trip from France to Mongolia. I’ve got two route options: the safer one through the Balkans, Turkey, Georgia... to Mongolia, or the other via Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Georgia... to Mongolia.
My question: Is it currently possible to cross Libya? Or are there ferries from Tunisia or Algeria to Egypt?
I’m also looking for a travel companion.
Thanks for your replies
Traveling in the Altai Mountains in Mongolia: staying with a nomadic family and taking the Trans-Siberian
Hi there,
I’m planning to spend two months in Mongolia, and I’d love to be welcomed by a nomadic or semi-nomadic family in the Altai Mountains. I can work and, of course, contribute money for my stay! Has anyone already had this experience? Also, is it still possible today to take the Trans-Siberian to Novosibirsk and then cross the Russia-Mongolia border at Tashanta?
Looking forward to your replies!
Thanks
Visa requirement lifted (Belarus)
It’s currently possible for a French national to enter Belarus through any land or air border point and stay for up to 30 days, for any reason.
I did this last November, driving my own car from France, entering at Terespol and Brest-Litovsk (7-hour queue on the Polish side for political reasons and 3 hours of formalities on the Belarusian side), and exiting through Lithuania (1.5 hours on the Belarusian side and 3.5 hours on the Lithuanian side for political reasons). The rest of the trip was a real pleasure...
Looking for contacts in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan)
Hello,
I’m planning my return to Bishkek in March, where my Thai wife and I have parked our camper van. On our way back from Thailand, we’d love to connect with one or more French-speaking contacts who know Kyrgyzstan.
Best regards,

Winter local transportation and getting around in Mongolia
Hi everyone, I’m setting off to put one foot in front of the other for 5 weeks in Mongolia starting mid-January. I always travel like the locals do—buses, shared "taxis," trucks... Has anyone here had experience with winter transportation there?
Weather-wise, I’ve dealt with extreme cold before, so I’m all set with gear.
See you soon, Marie

Ethiopia – 18/20 days in February 2025
Hello,
If Ethiopia fascinates you, draws you in, and like me you don’t want to visit this country solo… maybe we could exchange ideas with the goal of sharing a driver and a French-speaking guide (?). I’ve traveled a lot on my own (Peru, West Africa, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, a few European countries, some U.S. states, Greece, Mexico, etc.—backpacking, hostels, public transport, local restaurants),
also with a friend (Iran, Tibet, China, Russia, Gabon, South India),
with my husband (Egypt, Vietnam, Canada 3 times, Florida, Jordan, North India, Dominican Republic, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, among others).
He doesn’t want to travel anymore, my girlfriends aren’t interested in Ethiopia, and I don’t feel like going alone this time.
My last solo trip was last October (2024) in San Francisco. I loved it. I’m in my seventies now… pfff… but in great shape, physically resilient, good walking endurance, 40 years old in my head… I love music, I choose restaurants more for the local vibe than the menu (I adapt)… no fixed schedule, but I can adjust there too—sandwich or fruit for lunch, a little beer in the evening, and most importantly: no stress! Cool, cool… When traveling as a duo, if one of us wants to spend the day or evening alone, we meet up afterward, and it’s perfect. I’m more talkative in writing than in person—I love listening! So… if the adventure tempts you, don’t hesitate.
I’m in touch with a woman currently there who gave me the contact info for the guide she’s traveling with in the southern region, near the Omo tribes (she has a Facebook companion).
I spoke on the phone this morning with a "seasoned traveler" —we have a lot in common, and we’d be up for going together.
Forming a small group (4/5 people) would be ideal. February is a great time (climate-wise). The south is generally safer than the north, but nothing’s set in stone—nothing’s planned yet. Everything’s open to discussion and we’ll figure it out together!
Best to you, and looking forward to exchanging ideas!
Annick

Thank You, VoyageForum
I don’t want to write an obituary for VF here; I hope it’s just a rough patch and that we can keep exchanging. But I do want to list all the great things this Forum has given me:
-Some amazing travel stories from Yangguizi, one of which led me to North Korea. Just look at the power of storytelling! And Looping, Mariecurry, Michant... Pondi will see me in the Altai one day. -Meeting a really friendly travel companion, which gave me the confidence to explore the Russian Far North. Where else could I have found a travel buddy for such a unique trip? -Meeting people on the Forum who encouraged me to write and gave me confidence. I even found my Quebecois translator and Breton translator for a few lines here on VF. A big thank you to them. -A wealth of information from reading travel journals, plus the chance to ask specific questions to prepare for a trip. Reading these journals also inspired me to visit new destinations.
And then, Voyage Forum is like a big family made up of so many different personalities. Anonymity breaks down all barriers and inhibitions. Sure, some people can be a pain and might’ve needed some help, there are the lost souls; others are all kindness and warmth; some stand out for their beautiful French; that’s not something to dismiss in these times of language impoverishment; some intellectuals share ideas that often go over my head; there are the ruthless commentators on others’ writing and thoughts. Ego battles flare up—it’s all part of the game. I can’t imagine the work it takes to manage all this. Rarely, a historical discussion takes hold with knowledgeable contributors. How cool is that! It’s fascinating and educational. Unfortunately, political correctness often shuts it down quickly. The trolls are watching!
Thank you, VF. And thank you all who owe it to yourselves. What are the most original contributions?

Cordialement
