Salut, Je fais un master à Kunming qui va s'enchaîner par un stage quelque part en Chine. Je voudrais réaliser un vieux rêve qui serait de retourner au pays (coutances, manche, basse normandie) en moto au terme de ces deux ans. J'ai aucune expérience en moto, mais c'est un truc qui me traîne dans la tête depuis que m'a mère a refusé k j'achète une mob pour mes 14 ans. Je voudrais donc commencer dès maintenant à m'initier un peu à la moto histoire d'être rôdé dans deux ans pour tenter de rallier la France de Chine. Je vais choper un permi chinois histoire d'être clean et je voudrais acheter mon engin en suivant. J'ai aucune idée de ce qui est le mieux pour apprendre, pour bouger en Chine et pour réaliser la route de la soie avec. Y me faudrait un truc que je puisse un peu démonter, mécanique simple, histoire de pouvoir être autonome pour les réparations et assez puissant pour faire de longues distances. Ch connais personne de vraiment calé dans le domaine, bref, j'ai besoin de toi qu'est en train de lire ce mail un peu chiant en détail, qu'a silloné les routes de chine et qui connait les engins chinois...

Nous aimerions visiter Chartres pour un voyage de 2 ou 3 jours (une journée à Chartres). Y-a-t-il des environs interessants à visiter? Nous connaissons déjà la Normandie (l'Eure et le Calvados). Qu'y a-il à voir plus bas ou plus à l'est? Y-a-il des étapes sympas (B&B, Hotels ou restaurants?)

mon mari et moi sommes de retour de voyage de noces, nous étions au gran bahia principe a punta cana et c'était GENIAL. hotel grand luxe, 3 piscines, mer chaude (venant de normandie la différence est énorme), bouffe extra enfin rien a dire. si vous voulez des renseignements sur cet hotel, le vol, les activités... n'hésitez pas à demander. surtout une sortie a ne pas rater l'ile saona.

Voici mes besoins: 1 triple (2 adultes + 1 ado) arrivée le 27/10 départ le 29/10.On sera en voiture on peut gérer d'etre excentré(pas la normandie qd mm!).Budget 40/45 euros la nuit. Nous avons décidés de partir 3 semaines au portugal cet été. Nous faisons le trajet en voiture depuis la normandie...20h00 aller, 20h00 retour. Evidemment, nosu allons flaner sur le trajet.

Quelqu'un peut il me dire ce qu'ilo y a d'intéressant à voir sur la côte Nord de l'espagne ? Et au portugal, quel itinéraire pour ne pas trop être avec la masse de touristes ? 😕

je voudrais me faire un We en novembre avec les 3 jours, avec mon chien, j'habite la RP, donc je voudrais faire genre la normandie, mais sans visite de musée ect... vu que chien interdit, si vous avez des idées de ballades, hotel ect...., je suis open.

Moi et mon copain partont 1 mois pour l'Europe en mai 2004. Est-ce le bon temps pour partir pour la température et les touristes?

Mon copain veut absolument voir la Normandie (Dieppe et autres). Il est en amour avec l'histoire de la guerre et nous avons parlé d'y rester environ 1 semaine. Nous avons prévu commencé par ca et ensuite, descendre tranquillement vers le sud de la France.

Moi ce que je désire absolument voir c'est Cote d'azur, Monaco, Nice, Mont St-Michel bref le plus d'endroits possibles. J'adore les visites de chateau de tous genres et les merveilleux paysages. Que me conseillez-vous?

Croyez-vous qu'en 1 mois, si nous sommes bien organisés, ca peut se faire? Nous avons pensé louer une voiture. J'ai entendu dire que nous pouvions faire Achat-Rachat. Est-ce vrai? Si oui, nous aimerions avoir vos conseils. Sinon, si c'est trop cher, nous penserons au train.

That was about all the Spanish I could speak before we left... Luckily, Tom, 15 and in high school, gets by just fine! And Caroline did a year of Duolingo before we took off... Anyway, after 55 days in the American West three years ago, it’s Mexico’s turn for this second long adventure.

A quick intro to the crew:

We mostly travel by swapping our house to discover beautiful France and the world: 135 swaps over the last 13 years.....

Our itinerary is pretty classic since it’s our first time in the Yucatán, and we’ll make a little 10-day detour to Belize...

Here’s my itinerary: We’re leaving from Quebec for Rome – 4 nights Vienna – 9 nights Hallstatt – 2 nights Salzburg – 4 nights Innsbruck – 4 nights That leaves 3 nights to place somewhere between Innsbruck and Paris, ideally with a direct connection (I’ve looked but can’t find anything—I’m hoping you can help me out ). We’ll be returning to Quebec from Paris.

It could be a seaside spot to relax after what I’m sure will be an amazing trip, but that’s not a must. We also love beautiful cities and small villages.

We were offered a visit to the Renaissance by the new CFC cruise line through Croisiland. After reading all the reviews—some very harsh, others glowing—I wanted to form my own opinion without having to book a full cruise to test it out. This visit to the ship at the port of Le Havre for 49 € per person came at the perfect time, even if I’m a bit put off by having to pay for a ship tour. That’s not how it usually works with other cruise lines, as far as I know.

The Renaissance is a former Holland America Line ship, built in 1993 and renovated in 2023. We’re familiar with this style of ship since we took a long cruise in Polynesia in 2014 on one of its sister ships, the MS Statendam. We remember it as a charming small ship with a lovely pool terrace at the very back.

Off we went this morning for a relaxing day on a ship—always a nice change!

The Pont de Normandie is the last elegant structure you see before entering the vast and rather smelly port area of Le Havre.



The area around the port where the Renaissance is docked is total chaos—cars everywhere and only a handful of taxis. We were supposed to have a reserved parking spot in front of the terminal (we’d even given them our car model and license plate), but we were denied entry. There’s no paved public parking, so we left the car on a vacant lot.



CFC was officially acquired by the British cruise line Ambassador Cruise Line in January 2025. Ambassador Cruise Line, launched in 2010, already owns two ships of the same type and age. They wasted no time repainting the funnel in their new colors.



The line of passengers disembarking and waiting for taxis is endless... and taxis are trickling in. Is this the aftermath of yesterday’s strike, or is this the norm in this port? Either way, I feel bad for the poor travelers waiting—it’s going to be a long haul. Many are leaving on foot, dragging their suitcases. Compared to the port of Marseille, this is pretty dismal.



Forty spots were available for this visit organized by Croisiland, but we ran into a good hundred people at the meet-up. A group from the AVF (Accueil des Villes Françaises) of Le Havre will be joining us. Our Croisiland group consists of twelve people, if I counted right.

Security clearance is done alphabetically, and we quickly board the ship. Now we’re getting to the heart of the matter.

So happy to be back with you all that I’m rushing to share my trip report! We chose to stay exactly 14 days to avoid paying for a visa. As a result, we didn’t have time to explore the south—we’ll be back because Oman is a great destination in January. Temperatures were a perfect 25–27°C during the day. No rain for us, but it can happen.

We bought the *Évasion Oman* guidebook. We started with the Jebels (the mountains), abandoned villages, then the desert, wadis along the coast, and finished in the capital. For us, it was easier to go from cold (2,000 meters, after all) to hot before returning to our freezing Normandy in January.

The people were incredibly welcoming and lovely. We camped in natural camping areas where you can make a fire (free, no facilities or water). Easy to find—just search "camping" on Google Maps (an essential app). We traveled as a group of five and rented a 4x4 seven-seater from Europcar before leaving (price included our insurance): 800 euros for 14 days. Essential for getting everywhere, as there are lots of dirt tracks. We brought our camping gear from France since the baggage allowance is 30 kg. Oh, and also two liters of rum and a box of white wine—also essential.

Food was tricky if you don’t like spicy dishes or just chicken. You have to eat at international restaurants, which cost about the same as back home. We’d packed vacuum-sealed meat for the first three days and a few cans. For beaches, stick to the ones marked on Google for swimming—otherwise, they can be dirty and full of oil.

We arrived at 6:30 AM, bought a SIM card (make sure to remove yours before arriving and tape it to the back of your phone), exchanged money (not great rates at the airport—better in malls or souks; no exchanges in banks), and picked up the car. Then we headed to a Carrefour supermarket, but it was closed. We drove to Jebel Al Akhdar, the Sayq Plateau, where we found markets along the way. There are also bazaar shops where you can get gas bottles—they’re everywhere in mid-sized towns. There are even hypermarkets.

We hiked the well-marked old Sayq trail (red and white markings). Our return was improvised. We camped on the plateau and got cold—bring 0°C sleeping bags! The next day, we visited the abandoned villages of Wadi Bani Habib: juniper forests, canyon viewpoints. Then Birkat Al Maws on the way down—a beautiful palm grove. Next, Nizwa Hotel. The beds were really hard there—ask to see the rooms and test the beds before booking. There’s always availability, with prices starting at 35 euros for two.

On the third day, we went to Jebel Shams. Hiked along the canyon starting from Ghul, then descended. Camped on the road to Balha Fortress, which we visited the next morning (stunning!). Then we explored Nizwa before heading to the Wahiba Desert. Camped along the way, then drove to our accommodation: two days in the desert. We found the Thousand Nights Camp 40% cheaper a month before. Note: you have to leave by 1 PM in a convoy to reach the hotel.

On the sixth day, we hiked in the desert on our own because the activity prices were outrageous.

On the seventh day, we headed to a wadi, Bani Khalid, then to Sur, a seaside hotel. We booked just one room for five of us—hotel apartments are huge, and since we had our camping mattresses, it wasn’t a problem to set up in the living room. There’s even a kitchen. In cities, camping spots are poorly located—near intersections, etc.

Beach time and sightseeing on the eighth day, then we drove to the white sand beach in Fins, where we stayed for two nights (we left the tents set up but empty). This was our favorite campsite—go all the way to the end of the road, there’s a small cove and a stunning spot.

On the ninth day, we visited Wadi Shab and the Salma Plateau to find the tombs. The hike up from Fins was way too long—probably better to take the route suggested in the guidebook for a round trip. Meh, no one really enjoyed it.

On the tenth day, we went to Wadi Al Arbiyyin and drove to Seeb Al Mouj to book a diving trip. Stayed at Al Ferdous Hotel Apartments until the end—well-located for visiting Muscat and a great value. Just make sure to check the room first, as some beds are very hard and others aren’t.

Eleventh day: diving and beach time.

Twelfth day: visited the Grand Mosque (unlucky—first day it became paid, and not just a little: 8 OMR). Then explored the old city.

Thirteenth day: the Grand Opera and beach at The Village, where we found a great pizzeria: pizzawifi.com.

Fourteenth day: And that’s it—back home, thrilled to have discovered this magical country. We’ll be back!
