Je veux partir aux etats unis faire un grand tour, si possible... Mon point de depart serai miami, a partir de mi-avril environ.

De la, je voudrais aller en lousianne et visiter la floride, puis remonter jusqu'a New York. Ensuite je voudrais faire les grand parks, et le colorado, la californie, mais je ne sais pas encore dans quel ordre.

C'est pas facile de se decider, je voudrais partir en avril, et deja les avions commencent a se remplir... Va falloir vite se decider. J'ai pas mal d'economie en poche, mais comment estimer ce genre de voyage ? pas simple, et les transport la bas me semble chers...

Y'en a t'il parmis vous qui on des tuyaux, des idees d'itineraires ? Je voudrais aussi savoir combien reviens en moyenne un moins au USA, a quel prix on trouve des hotel bon marché, etc...

Si il y a des gens motivé par ce genre d'experience, je recherche aussi des compagnons de voyage.. Rencontres possible sur paris. J'ai 25 ans pour ceux kil veulent savoir. Ca me fait kan meme un peu peur de partir seul faire ce grand trip...

Bonjour! On vient de me renseigner ce site et déjà, j'ai trouvé plusieurs messages fort intéressants. Ceci dit, peut-être que vous pourrez m'aider davantage pour notre prochain séjour. Nous envisageons de partir cet été dans le Nord Ouest des USA, pour une dizaine de jours (peut-être 15), principalement pour visiter le Yellowstone et le Grand Teton. Nous n'avons pas encore visité d'autres parcs nationaux mais le choix des enfants (14 et 17 ans) s'est porté sur ceux là. En regardant les possibilités de vols, nous pensons arriver à Denver (nous partons de Bruxelles). Donc mes questions sont, pour le moment: Denver mérite-t-elle quelques jours de visite? Quel est le trajet le plus intéressant de Denver à Grand Teton? Y a-t-il des choses à ne pas manquer entre les deux? Combien de temps faut-il compter? Les routes sont-elles en bon éat pour une voiture de "tourisme" ou faut-il plutôt louer une 4x4? Nous aimerions également essayer de voir des chevaux sauvages. D'après ce que j'ai lu, il y en aurait dans les Pryor Mountain. Quelqu'un a-t-il des renseignements sur cette réserve? (Ma fille est folle de chevaux).

Première question, quels sont environ les températures à Montréal en mars, quels type de vêtements devrais-je apporter?

J'aimerais beaucoup faire un tour ne serait-ce qu'un week end dans une ville au usa. Laquelle me conseilleriez vous? J'avais pensé à NY car pas très loin de Montréal mais on me l'a déconseillé car c'est une ville trop cher... Qu'en pensez vous?

Connaitriez vous egalement des hôtels pas cher (budget étudiante!) où je pourrais loger et aussi les prix approximatifs en avion en partance de Montréal (ou autre mode de transport), et les choses à ne pas louper dans la ville?

Enfin quelles sont les centres commerciaux intéressants sur Montréal ?

je pense partir en voyage environ 2 semaines en janvier 2005. J'aimerais découvrir les États-Unis. J'ai pensé le faire avec une carte Amérique du Nord, c'est-à-dire une carte qui permet de voyager partout en Amérique du Nord pendant 30 jours. Est-ce que quelqu'un a déjà fait ce genre de voyage aux États-Unis? Est-ce une bonne idée? Y'a-t-il des intéressés?

Moi et 7 des mes meilleurs amis prévoyont partir fin juin 2006 pour un road trip de 2 mois . On veut faire le tour: le sud du Canada, la cote ouest américaine, la basse californie, le nord du Mexique et la cote est pour revenir à Montréal. On a chacun un rôle à jouer et je m'occupe de trouver les meilleurs endroits à aller pour la zone nord du Mexique-Côte Est des States. J'aurais besoin de l'aide de ceux qui s'y connaissent un peu plus que moi.

voila, on est une petite bande de 5 etudiants francais a quebec et dans 1 semaine, c'est les vacances.

Donc quelques choses qui ferait plaise, c'est de partir en road trip.

Donc loué une voiture et partir direction les grands lacs des etats unis, mais on est pas sur que cette destination soit vraiment la meilleure (d'apres des certaines personnes 😮) donc moi j'aimerai savoir si il y a quelqu'un qui a deja fait un voyage du type avec depart de quebec.

Savoir ce qu'il a fait, ca qui vaut le détour et meme les bons plans de location ou autres.

Il est maintenant le temps pour moi et ma copine de faire l'acquisition de nos billets d'avion pour la Thaïlande pour un départ au mois de janvier prochain. Cependant, nous n'arrivons pas à faire un choix en ce qui a trait à la compagnie aérienne ainsi que l'itinéraire emprunté (Europe, USA etc...).

Les agences de voyage du quartier chinois nous proposent un billet avec Japan Airline en passant par Chigago pour 1250$ taxes incluses.

J'ai aussi une proposition de notre agente de voyage pour un billet en "Evergreen Deluxe Class" avec Eva Air en passant par Vancouver. Le prix est plus chère (1979$) mais c'est une classe affaire sans les avantages.

Dernière petite chose qui nous chicotte l’esprit. Sommes-nous généralement confortable en classe économique sur la plupart des compagnies aériennes? Nous avons seulement voyagé dans le Sud à bord d’avions nolisées et nous sommes un peu craintif à l’idée de faire plus de 12 heures de vol entassé comme des sardines.🤪

En janvier nous aimerions partir au Venezuela. Pour le moment le programme serait :

arriver à Caracas et départ le jour même vers Mérida. Faire un circuit (bus ou vélo) dans le coin.

Départ vers cuidad Bolivar pour un départ avec guide dans la gran Sabana puis retour vers caracas pour prendre l'avion pour las Roques.

Je me pose quelques questions au niveau de la 1ère destination.

Mérida est-elle une ville aussi "dangereuse" que les autres (Caracas, Zulia...) parce que ce n'est pas le site du ministère étrangère qui nous donne envie de partir!!! 😠

Connaissez-vous un guide récent ? (mis à part petit futé)

Je vais faire un séjour linguistique aux States au mois de juillet prochain...on me propose plusieurs destinations du type : Virginie, Pennsylvanie, Delaware, Maryland...je sais que ce ne sont pas de très grands lieux touristiques, mais c'est justement ce qui m'intéresse...j'ai plutôt envie de m'intéresser aux autochtones et aux paysages plutôt qu'aux touristes européens et japonais! Toute info sur ces différents états me sera très précieuse (visites, accueil des américains, activités sur place...)!

Pour ne pas trop me disperser j'aimerais que vous me conseillez pour organiser mon futur voyage.J'ai remarqué, par exemple que les hôtel étaient très cher pour New York.Quelques plans seraient le bienvenue.

Après quelques jours sur NY? J'aimerais prendre un vol interne.Le pays est tellement grand je ne sais pas trop où aller Mais peu être:La Nouvelle Orléans...Aider moi pour un premier..En tout cas, finir à LAngeles (j'ai un ami là bàs).Et puis retour en France.

Je pense prendre 3 semaines. N'hésiter pas à me guider.(livres, 😛les sous:c'est ce qui va guider beaucoup de choses, les 4ou5 belles choses à ne pas rater dans les grosses villes que vous avez faites...)

After staying in Aruba in November 2023, we picked up our camper van, which we had left in a hotel parking lot in Miami, Florida.

This isn’t our first road trip across the United States. Since we’re retired, we took the opportunity to travel along the American West Coast, starting with the Everglades in Florida to visit a few parks where we could spot alligators.

We also made a few stops in Mississippi and Texas to explore the most important cities in those states.

Hello everyone,

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)

Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly! Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!

On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.

We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I inherited my love of travel from my parents and some of my grandparents. A strong passion, but one that was unfortunately limited by our family’s modest resources. Back then, living in northern Alsace, a simple trip to the southern part of the region—with the Wine Route as our destination—felt like an extraordinary journey to a land of plenty for the little boy I was in the late 60s and early 70s. Everything seemed so huge when you were still just a kid. Back then, I was overwhelmed by countless sensations—I was already highly sensitive, with a keen mind and a nose and taste buds that were developing like a pro’s. Which, as I’d later realize, wasn’t always an advantage.



Those magical days always began with a gentle late-spring or midsummer morning. The interior of the white Peugeot 404, license plate 210 LZ 67, had already soaked up the sun before the engine purred to life, and the cabin gave off a scent I could still recognize today—a fragrance I found so pleasant. Back then, I had no idea it was just the smell of warm plastic from the car’s interior. Yes, the scents of the 404 on sunny days became my madeleine de Proust... What’s more, the whole family was unusually cheerful because those moments of relaxation and leisure were rare. Everyone worked, and no one had an easy job or was well paid. Without the *Trente Glorieuses*, these experiences might never have happened.



Once we crossed the canton’s borders, I felt like I was light-years away from my everyday surroundings, and every kilometer plunged me deeper into *terra incognita*. It was thrilling. Far from my so-called "medium-sized" town, wheat fields, cornfields, and cabbage patches stretched out, punctuated by tall poles connected by long wires and topped with vegetation—like giant clotheslines without laundry, where magical beanstalks might grow to touch the sky. Back then, I was still far from tasting their product, which was simply beer. At the time, there was still a significant local hop production. Fun fact: it wasn’t until 2002 that Anglo-Saxon scientists proved hops and cannabis belong to the same biological family.

After the fields, the landscape took another step up as it rolled past the little boy’s eyes, often glued to the windows. First came modest hills, then a succession of rolling slopes that soon formed an unbroken chain. Their 700 meters in altitude felt like Himalayan peaks to me—impressive, inert giants, a whole new world. Gazing at them, an intense emotion welled up somewhere between my stomach and lungs, nearly taking my breath away. What mysteries, what treasures did these heights hold? And then there were the cherries on top—the crowning touch that made the scene even more magical: proud, majestic castles perched on the summits like impassive sentinels. Monuments from the past, yet firmly rooted in the present on their rocky spurs. The little boy’s eyes sparkled—he’d been given a castle for Christmas, complete with battlements, towers, a drawbridge, and fully armed knights. He’d watched and lived *Ivanhoe* on the only French TV channel that existed back then.

Only once did my paternal grandfather join us on one of these trips. A tall, intelligent man with a face that could shift from stern to mischievous, clearly full of humor and charisma. Sadly, his relationship with alcohol had taken a toll on his life and, by extension, those of his loved ones. He had a strong personality—if his boss crossed the line, he wouldn’t hesitate to punch him, which meant he went through a lot of different jobs. Back then, you could quit one job and easily find another. It was quite something to see him in his final stages, hallucinating pink elephants and even drinking perfume when he had nothing else left. The last time I saw him, he’d slipped away from the doctors and nurses while hospitalized in pretty bad shape—at least, I assume his liver was the issue. We were sitting down for a family lunch when the door burst open, and there he stood in his pajamas, eyes twinkling with mischief, clearly pleased with the dramatic entrance. That theatrical moment didn’t spare us from burying him a few months later at the age of 71. One day, my mother told me the family doctor had quietly remarked that it was a shame—with his robust constitution, he could’ve lived to be a hundred. Yes, the family doctor—this was the man who’d come treat you any day, at almost any hour, just for a phone call. It really existed, it’s not a myth!

That day, his wife—my paternal grandmother—was also along for the ride. Everyone agreed that Jeannette was a good woman. She worked as a waitress at *Le Tigre*, the biggest brasserie in town, right in the center. Most customers preferred to be served by her, including local dignitaries and even the mayor. As a kid, I didn’t find her very fun, open, or warm—she seemed a bit stern. Back then, women in their fifties already had the face and build of grandmothers. Same went for men, don’t get me wrong. I had no idea about the struggles she faced because of her husband. I didn’t know that 30 years earlier, she’d had to flee Alsace while pregnant, under threat from Nazi fighter-bombers. I didn’t know she’d had several miscarriages, and that my father—her only surviving child, born prematurely in March 1940 at the other end of France—weighed less than a kilo at birth and was so tiny he could fit in a shoebox. Hard to imagine he’d grow into a strapping man nearly 1.80 meters tall, tipping the scales at 100 kilos. When you come back from summer camp in early August and ask why she didn’t pick you up with your parents, and they gently tell you she’s "in heaven," you don’t realize she passed away at 54 after suffering greatly from stomach cancer that had spread.

Back to that family outing, that enchanted parenthesis. I even remembered where we’d had lunch when I passed through Dambach-la-Ville decades later. One of those charming, flower-filled towns Alsace produces in abundance—and preserves so well. This one sits high on a hill, and I was a bit stunned on the parking lot because the view stretched far, revealing the Alsace plain below—its fields, villages, hills, and forests. The world seemed so vast and enticing that day, even though I was only glimpsing a tiny fraction of it.



The region was already very touristy, but I wouldn’t notice the downsides until much later. That Sunday noon, I discovered a large restaurant filled with diners. I can still see the enormous piece of meat they served me, decorated with a little wooden skewer topped with a flag. I kept that one for a long time. Those were the golden days of rich, flowing, thick sauces—so flavorful—and the era of the world’s best fries, made on the spot with the best potatoes. To top it off, I was *exceptionally* allowed a small bottle of apple juice, Orangina, or—even better if possible—Sinalco. Yes, Sinalco—like Orangina, but better. A brand that must’ve disappeared in the 70s, but why, and what a shame! Since then, Orangina’s little bubbles have taken the brand to the other side of the planet—it’s now Japanese.

Year after year, I’d eagerly await that ecstatic moment when the most beautiful castle in Alsace, the Haut-Koenigsbourg, appeared in my field of vision. The perfect model, the archetype that blended into the landscape at the height of a child’s dreams. The trip home always felt like a reality check—less jarring than an alarm clock, but more diffuse and melancholic. From then on, there was only one wish: *When do we leave again?*

HIGHWAY 1

Highway 1 runs along the Pacific coast of California from Leggett in the north to Dana Point in the south. It's the longest state route in California, stretching 1,050 km.

It's famous for its breathtaking ocean views. That’s actually why it’s become such a popular route for road trips, with tons of attractions and points of interest all along the way.

In January 2023, we started our second road trip across the United States. We stayed from January to mid-March, which gave us plenty of time to visit several cities, attractions, and parks in multiple states.

This travel journal will be split into two parts due to the considerable number of places we visited.

This first journal covers the following states: Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California, and takes you through the outbound leg of our road trip.

The second journal will showcase the attractions we visited on the return trip, which mainly follows the famous Highway 1 along the Pacific coast.

USA Road Trip 2023 - Part 2

During our first road trip across the United States, we covered 23,000 km and crossed 28 states in 53 days.

Originally, we had planned to drive Route 66 all the way to Oatman in Arizona and visit various national parks in the American West over a two-month period.

This itinerary was planned before our departure, and all the relevant information had been gathered to stick to the schedule.

Everything went so smoothly that we finished visiting the national parks well ahead of our planned return date.

It helped that having a bed, a portable toilet, and a cooler in our vehicle gave us some autonomy since we didn’t have to worry about accommodation.

So, we decided to extend our road trip to the cities of Nashville and Memphis in Tennessee.

We then headed to Louisiana to visit Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

We crossed Mississippi and Alabama before driving along Florida’s west coast all the way to Key West.

We returned via Florida’s east coast and then crossed the eastern U.S. states to get back to Quebec through the Jackman border crossing in Maine.

This time, it's real, concrete stuff.

We’ll be going on a road trip in September this year (if all goes well, yes, I know it’s a bit superstitious, but I can’t help it, especially with the current family circumstances).

There’ll be four of us: my husband, our two grown kids (20 and 24), and me.

The flights aren’t booked yet because I’m still hesitating over the dates (it’s down to a day or two). They should be finalized by the end of this week or sometime next week.

J1 - Friday, August 29: Brussels-SLC via Amsterdam with KLM (I’d love your opinions on this airline since I’ve never flown with them before) – arrival scheduled for early afternoon. As I mentioned in the intro, the departure and return dates aren’t set in stone yet. Normally, we’d leave on August 29, which would mean visiting Moab and Arches. Otherwise, we’d leave on August 30 and stay in SLC. Around SLC, we’d explore the area, but I’ll admit I’m a bit stuck on what to do there.

For the return, we’d leave SLC on Saturday, September 13, or Sunday, September 14. Our youngest starts classes on Monday, September 15, but he doesn’t mind starting a day later.

Some things are already booked and paid for and can’t be changed (or only with difficulty), so please keep that in mind in your comments. 😕

I’d love to hear about your experiences with a few questions:

* Is it too ambitious to include Arches in the road trip? Especially since the drives are long, particularly the Moab-Grand Teton stretch.

* What do you recommend doing around SLC?

* Same for Jackson. We’ve decided to spend two full days there to take a break between the national parks.

* For the return, I was wondering if spending a day in SLC before heading back to Europe might be a good idea.

My wife and I took American Airlines flight no. 63 on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 9:30 AM, with a scheduled arrival in Miami at 1:30 PM local time.

After about half an hour of flight, a young passenger had a medical emergency. They were given care, and a flight attendant went to get an oxygen bottle. Then, an announcement over the loudspeakers informed passengers that the plane was diverting to London.

Once at London Heathrow (LHR), we were waiting to depart again. But a new announcement asked us to disembark because the plane wouldn’t be able to take off until the next day. (American responded to my follow-up, saying they’re required to limit their staff’s working hours to a certain number per day.)

A crowd of travelers gathered at the American Airlines counter, where they were told to follow instructions to get to a hotel. Meanwhile, I called the airline’s customer service to find a replacement flight that same day, since I couldn’t afford to leave the next day. If I had, I would’ve lost my hotel and car rental reservations due to late cancellation, which would’ve cost me a significant amount.

After discussing in English with customer service and the counter staff (who I handed my phone to), we managed to get two seats on British Airways flight BA 0209, which was leaving about 2 hours later.

That’s how, after a stressful wait unsure if we’d get our luggage back, and once we did, we hurried—heavily loaded—to reach the far-off terminal for our new boarding on foot and by train shuttle.

We finally took off for Miami and landed around 7:30 PM, which was 6 hours later than the originally scheduled arrival time of American Airlines flight 63.

On top of the stress, there were the costs of meals in the meantime, and I had to notify the hotel and car rental company about our delay.

As a result, I requested compensation for a flight delay of at least 3 hours (and I’ve involved my insurance’s legal protection to pursue this claim). American Airlines argued that exceptional circumstances prevented them from compensating me.

What do you think? Is my request unreasonable?

I’ve booked a round-trip flight to NYC for 3 weeks in August. Now I’m trying to fill in the days. 5 nights already booked in NYC (Monday to Saturday). Then I absolutely want to head down to WASHINGTON for 2 or 3 days. I wanted to do a loop: NYC, Washington, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Boston, and back to NYC. I think that’s too many miles for the loop from Washington to Québec and back to NYC in 2 weeks? Especially since the first week is already planned: NYC to WASHINGTON! On the way back from Washington, I’d like to stop in Strasburg, Lancaster, and Gettysburg. Given that I don’t want to take any domestic flights, since my wife really can’t handle them! Originally, I wanted to fly from NYC to DENVER/SLC to do the Yellowstone loop. We’re getting older and don’t have the stamina for that anymore :( Driving down from NYC to Washington, there’s Philadelphia, but that scares me a bit. Back in 2019, before COVID, I thought we were going to get shot in downtown DALLAS! I can’t figure out how to plan 3 weeks around NYC! Considering we didn’t really like San Francisco in 2011 either. Though after 3 weeks in paradise among the canyons, arriving in that big city and going from 40°C to 16°C was a shock :) We prefer nature over big cities. Thanks for your feedback! Cheers
