During my trip to Thailand, I’ll be spending 2 nights at Tonsai Beach, near Ao Nang Beach, close to Krabi. Tonsai Beach is only accessible by boat, so I was wondering where I could safely leave my car at Ao Nang Beach for 48 hours? Alternatively, at Ao Nam Mao Beach (on the other side), if there are shuttles to Tonsai Beach.

We only have carry-on luggage. Will they be checked again? Do we have to go through security again? Are the connections smooth and well signposted? Finally, is it common in this situation to ask a flight attendant for help?

Hi, Flight from Phu Quoc to Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur with a self-transfer layover of 2H10. No terminal change, but you’ll need to collect your carry-on luggage, recheck in for the second flight (same airline, AirAsia), go through customs and security... I’m not familiar with this airport, which I’ve read is quite large. For those who’ve done this before—is the layover time enough? Thanks for your reply.

Hi, We arrive in Johannesburg (Tambo) at 8:30 in the morning. Do you think we’ll have enough time to catch the 10:30 flight to Hoedspruit, or is it better to play it safe and take the next one at 11:40? If you take the bus from Bangkok Ekkamai to Pattaya, foreigners will be asked to pay an extra 20k for checked baggage, even though it’s already been paid for and listed on the ticket. They don’t even weigh it—a woman just demands you pay again, and if you refuse, she goes to get security colleagues who yell at you and threaten not to let you board. We later found out at the hotel that this is a well-known organized scam. The company is ROONG REUANG COACH, and we were about fifteen people—all foreign tourists—in the same situation. For Thai passengers, they didn’t ask for anything.

Then in Pattaya, violence and corruption rule. The next day, we learned the city is classified as "scarlet" (high-risk). A hotel guest was attacked with a knife by four Thais on a scooter—they stole his bag with his bank card and cash inside, luckily not his passport. A large hotel near ours was just shut down administratively for pedophilia. On Apple Maps, many reviews warn about how dangerous the city is. I’ve been coming to Thailand regularly for over 30 years, but I barely recognize the country since COVID. The "Land of Smiles" is turning into the "Land of Scowls," and a form of racism is emerging. For us, this will be the last time—next stop, Vietnam, and even China, which pleasantly surprised us.

Finally, China and the U.S. are advising their citizens against traveling to Thailand due to violence. Right now, most tourists here are Indians and Russians—together, they make up the majority—along with some from the Gulf (Qatar, Dubai, Oman).

Hi there, we’re planning a trip this summer to Charente Maritime (Gironde estuary) with our 2-year-old daughter. We’re looking for a quiet, family-friendly seaside town—not too big and not too overrun with tourists, if possible. Some nice beaches where we can safely introduce our little one to the joys of swimming. Restaurants and everything we need nearby so we can forget about the car for a bit… We were thinking of Saint-Palais-sur-Mer or Meschers-sur-Gironde, but we’re not sure if they’re the right fit. I’m spending a few days in Singapore, which I love. I was thinking about maybe heading to Tioman, but it’s a real hassle with the bus and ferry times—plus, you pretty much have to stay overnight in Mersing for safety. I also looked into Bintan, which seems pretty nice. You need a visa since it’s in Indonesia, and it’s a big, beautiful island. There’s even a Club Med, so it must be a decent spot. Tioman looks stunning in videos, but yeah… I’m still going back and forth on this one!

This trip took place in May 2023, a period of calm that later proved precarious. Day of May 17 Departure from Marseille on El Al (tickets booked by ourselves, while the stay itself was organized by Voyageurs du Monde). Before check-in, six or seven El Al staff members conduct a security check—quite understandable, but they do it in total chaos. They send people to the left, then block them, redirect them to the right, for no apparent reason. Most of the staff don’t speak French, which complicates things. They work at an incomprehensible slow pace, stopping the interview to do something else, then coming back and starting over... The flight goes smoothly, except for the meal service, which, for a four-hour flight that El Al delayed to lunchtime, is more than basic: a quarter-liter of water and a corned beef sandwich that’s absolutely disgusting and inedible. To get a coffee, you have to queue at the back of the plane. You end up missing Ryanair🙂 Arrival at Ben Gurion goes better than expected—the passport control is fairly quick, as is baggage delivery. Transfer to the Lily and Bloom hotel, Lilienblaum Street (easy to remember 🙂) As advised by Voyageurs du Monde, we book a table for the evening at the nearest restaurant, North Abraxas. Good atmosphere and decent food. We get a sense of the price level in Israeli restaurants. Around us, diners share dishes placed in the middle of the table. Much more convivial than our individual plates!! Day of May 18

The next morning, we go down for breakfast at 7:30 AM—a late hour, but the setup is slow, with the two servers taking their time. We ask the bartender for a long coffee and a black tea... It must be a complicated order because it takes him over 10 minutes to make it. He serves us with the grace of a dancer. A good breakfast if you’re not in a hurry, followed by a little stroll in the neighborhood, since our meet-up with Patrick Arfi, our guide for the day, isn’t until 10 AM. P. Arfi is a former publishing house director in Paris who has lived in Israel for a long time and has a vast cultural knowledge. After an initial chat, we head toward Jaffa, focusing on the Bauhaus buildings preserved by a clever urban policy that allows high-rise construction while maintaining old architectural ensembles.



This policy keeps the streets looking more human-scale than the usual high-rise districts in modern cities.

With the visit to Jaffa, Patrick introduces us to a fascinating slice of history, despite the temperature nearing 38°C. Jaffa, once an independent city, is now a neighborhood of Tel Aviv—a predominantly Muslim area. We notice a few buildings in poor condition. They belong to Palestinian families who left Tel Aviv. Otherwise, the city has been very well restored, apart from these few buildings.

A government agency rents out the ground floors of these buildings, which helps fund part of the security work. They also try to track down the owners and buy back the abandoned properties, but some refuse to sell. The visit is very touristy—most of the people we meet are tourists like us.













There’s very little local life, except in the lower part of the city. To be continued, as I’ve reached the allowed photo limit.

The exact dates are still flexible, and I’ll be shipping the bike with Long-Cours. The trip duration isn’t set yet—I’m retired, so time’s not an issue!

Hello, I’ve been retired since 2018 and travel solo every winter. But after my sons pointed out: “riding alone through Laos on a bike! Safety-wise, there’s room for improvement.” I’m getting older and need to be more careful. That’s the reason for this post. The idea is to look out for each other if needed, while still keeping our independence and privacy. I’ll be in Laos starting December 6th, then probably Thailand in January since I want to do some diving. After that, it’s all improvisation—nothing’s set in stone. Si tout va bien, en 2021 je traverserai le Canada à vélo, de Vancouver à Montréal (où j'ai de la famille). Je cherche l'itinéraire le meilleur en termes de sécurité et d'intérêt. Et cette longue portion (1400 kms) entre Winnipeg et Sault n'a pas la réputation d'être d'un intérêt majeur, sans même parler de la sécurité qui laisserait à désirer pour le cycliste. Pourtant, certains n'hésitent pas à s'y lancer, sans s'en plaindre outre mesure. D'autres au contraire font une incursion aux USA, en flirtant avec les frontières, cherchant les petites routes tranquilles quitte à faire des détours conséquents. J'hésite entre les 2 stratégies, et je suis en quête de témoignages ou d'avis. Y aurait-il des canadiens/québécois, ou des voyageurs qui pourraient m'apporter des éléments décisifs ? D'avance, je les en remercie !

PS : j'oubliais : Suivre le Grand Sentier entre ces 2 villes, est-ce jouable à vélo ?

Je vais étudier à la Sorbonne à la rentrée et je vais m'installer à Paris pour la première fois, rue Cour-des-noues, dans le quartier du Père-Lachaise (Paris 20). Je souhaitais connaître vos avis sur cette rue et, plus largement, sur le quartier. Pour être honnête, je suis surtout intéressée par son niveau de sécurité (je suis une femme). Mes cours termineront souvent tard et, en plus, j'aurai 40 min de transports en commun pour rentrer chez moi. Je souhaitais savoir si je pouvais m'installer en toute tranquillité.

Annonce très en avance :

J’ai un grand rêve, celui de faire le tour du monde à pied, au départ de Paris.

Au début, mon intention était de partir seul et de faire des rencontres sur le chemin… Je me suis ensuite ravisé, notamment pour des questions de sécurité à tous les niveaux : risques liés aux mauvaises rencontres, stabilité sociale, repère affectif etc.

Je cherche donc dans l’idéal un.une coéquiper.e, ou pourquoi pas un groupe.

Je dois avouer que je n’aime pas beaucoup l’idée d’un trop grand groupe, car c’est imposant pour ceux que l’on rencontre, et contraignant lorsqu’il faut prendre des décisions.

C’est un projet sérieux que je prévois d’effectuer d’ici 3 à 5 ans, le temps de se documenter et de tout penser au mieux : matériellement , financièrement, administrativement, humainement…

C’est un projet de vie, qui va durer plus ou moins 10ans.

Les pays que je souhaiterais traverser :

La Grèce La Turquie La Géorgie L’Iran Le plateau tibétain (?) La Chine

Le Japon représenterait la moitié du chemin pour rendre visite à ma sœur et son mari.

Je cherche des camarades capables d’être autonomes sur le plan matériel et financier au cas où l’on déciderait de se séparer (de manière définitive ou non).

Je suis bilingue anglais/français. J’ai quelques notions d’allemand, d’italien, de flamand. J’ai surtout une bonne base en Chinois. Si vous avez des notions de russe et/ou d’espagnole, ça serait le top.

En ce qui concerne les transports (vélo, voiture, bus, train, bateau, avion), je suis prêt à en prendre dans 4 conditions :

- Lorsque la réalité du terrain l’impose (exemple : traverser de l’océan). - Lorsque le transport en question est une expérience inédite en soi (exemple : le transsibérien). - Lorsque les conditions physiques l’imposent (exemple : blessures ou maladie en cours de guérison) - Lorsqu’il est nécessaire de « sauter par-dessus » un pays (exemple : le Turkménistan, la Corée du Nord, pays en guerre...)

Hormis ces conditions, je souhaite vivement que la pratique de la marche reste l’expérience centrale de ce projet.

Bonjour à tous, Je me permets d'intervenir ici au sujet d'un déméngament à venir qui occasionne quelques soucis. je vais partir vivre aux Etats-Unis d'ici la fin de l'année. J'ai un chat. Je crois savoir qu'il faut le sortir de sa cage pour le contrôle de sécurité. Quelqu'un peut-il me le confirmer ? Aussi savez-vous si les compagnies aériennes inspectent attentivement chaque animal en les faisant là aussi sortir de leur cage ? je réfléchis à prendre la compagnie frenchbee, qui m'autorise à le prendre en cabine. À la différence des règles de sécurité instaurées lors du déconfinement dans les métros et les trains français, les compagnies aériennes n'auront pas à faire respecter la distanciation sociale à bord des avions.

Beaucoup de voyageurs ont déjà réservé leur tour du monde en croisière pour 2021. L'achat s'est fait au regard de publicités qui vantaient un certains nombres d'escales , d’excursions etc.... Si durant le voyage des impératifs de sécurité (météo , conflits, etc... ) ou des interdictions se font jour suite à des décisions de pays face à des impératifs sanitaires (Covid19) , on peut comprendre que la force majeure peut être invoquée par la compagnie qui a vendu son produit. Mais la question suivante mérite d'être posée :

Si AVANT de partir , la compagnie sait qu'elle ne pourra pas assurer un certain nombre de prestations en regard avec celles qui ont été décrites par voie publicitaire (Elle ne peut invoquer le cas imprévu et impératif) , doit elle le faire savoir aux croisiéristes d'une manière formelle et le croisiériste pourra il demander le remboursement de tout ce qu'il aura versé quelle qu’en soit la somme et sans aucune retenue ou le report (A son choix) à une date ultérieure ? (Que la réservation ait été effectuée par le biais d'une agence ou en directe ) La question est simple , et mériterait une réponse claire et limpide des compagnies (MSC, Costa Croisières etc...)

J'aurai voulu avoir quelques avis sur cette traversée, sécurité, formalités administratives, endroit pour se poser sur la route etc.

Les infos que j'ai pu récupérer pour le moment sont trop aléatoires. Dangereux - pas dangereux, visa - pas visa etc.
