Hello! I’m so excited to be back on this forum—it’s helped me so much in the past! I need your expert advice for our next trip, which will take us to Central Asia: Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

We have a month, and here’s the itinerary I have in mind: Arrival in Tashkent – 2 days Bukhara – 2 days Samarkand – 3 days Panjakent – 1 day The Seven Lakes + Iskanderkul – 3 days Khujand – 2 days Fergana Valley – 3 days Song Kol Lake – 2 days Issyk-Kul Lake – 3 days Charyn Canyon – 1 day Kaindy Lake – 1 day Altyn Emel Park – 1 day Almaty – 1 day and departure

I know the travel times, especially in the mountains, can be long, but I’ve tried to optimize it so we can rest after the long drives. Our family includes three kids aged 5, 13, and 17. We’re used to backpacking. But I have *so* many questions: -Will it be extremely hot in Uzbekistan, but manageable in the other regions on my itinerary? -I’ve read conflicting things about trains in Uzbekistan: is it possible to book train tickets in advance from France? -For the Seven Lakes and Iskanderkul, do I need to hire a driver? Is it easy to find one? Since there are five of us, we’d need a large car… or is it possible to rent a car in Panjakent and drop it off in Khujand? -What’s worth visiting in the Fergana Valley? -I’d prefer to avoid domestic flights, so I planned to break up the Osh-Issyk-Kul Lake route by stopping at Song Kol Lake and taking a horseback ride. Is that realistic? Again, do I need to find a driver, or can we do it independently? -Where’s the best base for Issyk-Kul Lake? The main goal is to relax and swim (is it acceptable for women to wear swimsuits in these regions?) -For the last part of the trip—Charyn Canyon and Kaindy Lake from Issyk-Kul—is it doable, or do I need a driver once more? -Is Altyn Emel Park doable in the summer, or is it too hot? The idea is to see the views and do a short 3-hour hike.

I’m currently planning our first trip to Japan. We’ll be traveling with our two teens, aged 16 and 17. We’re doing a pretty classic loop, but I’d still love to hear your valuable input.

Here’s the itinerary we’re considering:

- Tokyo (5 full days) - Fuji Yoshida (1 night) - Matsumoto (1 night) - Kamikochi / Gokayama (1 night) - Kanazawa (1 night) - Ine (1 night) - Himeji - Kyoto (5 full days)

We’re thinking of renting a car for the Japanese Alps portion.

We’re planning a 3-week trip, so I still have a few days to allocate—maybe in the Japanese Alps.

What do you think of the itinerary? The detour to Ine might seem odd, but I really want to include a coastal part—any thoughts? Is renting a car in Japan a total hassle?

And finally, is it absolutely necessary to book all accommodations in advance if we’re traveling in August? Or can I leave some flexibility for the Kanazawa / Ine / Himeji portion? Maybe if we really love a place and want to stay longer?

One alternative would be to visit Gonarezhou Park, which really appeals to me... But that would take more time and change the rest of the route: probably going back through Kruger. And I’m not sure I’d have enough time for the Drakensberg.

I still have other questions... But I’d rather finalize the general itinerary first to sort out the 4x4 rental...

We’re heading to the Pacific Northwest (USA) and Western Canada this summer. We’ve made some progress planning, but we still have a few questions.

Our trip is mostly nature-focused—hiking, wildlife spotting (ideally bears, orcas/whales, otters, etc.), mountains, forests—and a few days in cities, though we’re not big on museums.

We’re looking at flying into Seattle (cheaper than Vancouver), then renting a car and staying in Airbnbs.

A few years ago, we traveled through eastern Canada/USA (Halifax/Montréal/Boston/Halifax) and ended up driving *way* too much and switching accommodations too often. This time, we’d like to settle in a bit more.

Here’s our current plan:

- 2 nights in Seattle to avoid hitting the road right after the flight. One day for a quick city visit, then we’ll leave early after the second night. -> Heading to Olympic National Park from the south.

- 4 nights near Olympic National Park, likely around Forks. -> Then to Port Angeles and a ferry to Vancouver Island via Victoria (maybe 1 night there).

- 7 nights in Port Alberni, which seems like a central base for exploring Vancouver Island (Tofino, Pacific Rim, Cathedral Grove, etc.). We really want to enjoy the area without constantly packing and unpacking.

The issue is, that brings us to 13–14 nights, and we’d like to spend 2 in Vancouver.

We’re wondering if we should head farther north on the island and add a few more days, or reduce our stay in Port Alberni to explore the north as well.

After that, we’d have about a week left. We’re considering a detour near the Canadian Rockies, then slowly making our way back to Seattle via North Cascades National Park.

Anyway, we’d love your input on all this!

D20: Flight from Lyon to Phoenix, night in Phoenix L21: Phoenix (visit the zoo, city, Apache Trail? The road is apparently closed??) night in Sedona M22: Sedona, night in Sedona M23: Depart for GC, visit GC, night in GC (no accommodation booked yet, same goes for the following visits) J24: Drive to MV, visit MV, night in Mexican Hat or? V25: End of MV, drive to Page, night in Page S26: Page—Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, night in Page D27: Drive to Bryce, visit Bryce, night? L28: End of Bryce, depart for Zion (I’m wondering if it’s worth visiting Zion at the end of April—since the park is at high altitude, is there a risk of snow? Temperatures?) If we skip Zion, could we plan 2 days for Arches before heading to Bryce? Night in Springdale if Zion, otherwise drive to Valley of Fire, night? M29: Valley of Fire, then drive to LV, night in LV M30: Morning in LV, then drive to Death Valley, night in Furnace Creek? J1: Visit Death Valley, return to LV, night in LV And then we have 3 days left... where should we add them? More time in Arches and Zion? An extra day in Sedona? In Page? We’re not big hikers, so we won’t spend more than a day in each park.

We’re planning a trip to the U.S. in January, with the constraint of needing to be in Washington by February 3rd... Normally, I’m not big on museums or indoor visits, but I think I won’t have much choice in January.

Just to clarify, I’ve already visited NYC (didn’t love it) and Philadelphia (one-day trip, and I *loved* it). My partner has never been to the East Coast.

My initial idea was to drive from NYC to Washington by rental car, stopping in Lancaster County (and a quick detour to Strasburg as a Strasbourger—😁). But the rental car prices are sky-high, plus the hassle of parking (you have to stay on the outskirts of cities to find a spot) and the winter weather. Accommodations around Lancaster were also pretty expensive, so I’ve tweaked the original plan...

Here’s our current itinerary: - Day 1: Arrive in NYC around 4 PM - Days 2–5: NYC - Day 6: Take the bus to Philadelphia, explore Philadelphia - Day 7: Visit Lancaster County with a day rental car from Philadelphia - Day 8: More time in Philadelphia - Day 9: Take the bus to Washington - Days 10–12: Explore Washington - Day 13: Fly home at 10 PM

Last October, we landed in Marrakech to spend a few days with family exploring Morocco’s roads. Transport: a rented Dacia. Accommodations: small guesthouses.

Our first stop was just a few kilometers from Marrakech, at a lovely house perfect for relaxing and recharging before continuing. It’s called Bleu House, a little paradise on the outskirts of Marrakech. The welcome was very warm, with a beautiful pool and a lovely garden.

Next, we headed toward the Tichka Pass. The road has really improved in recent years—it’s much easier to drive now. No more getting stuck behind trucks, and today, the construction is practically finished.

Morocco has turned green after the recent rains. It’s a joy for the herds and shepherds.

About the Inside Passage—has anyone here done it? Our only concern is the weather for that boat day between Prince Rupert and the northern part of Vancouver Island. Under clear skies, the landscapes are stunning. If it’s foggy or mediocre weather, well, we’ll have given it a shot! Just know you *have* to book the car passage way in advance.

Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

I’d finish with Velavadar and then back to Ahmedabad to catch a train or flight back to Mumbai. 😊 What do you think of this 6-week itinerary? I’m planning our upcoming family trip to China in August 2025—two adults, two kids (11 and 13), and a one-year-old baby.

As I organize the trip, I’d love your advice. Here’s my itinerary: - Arrival in Beijing on 02/08, staying until 07/08 (five days) to visit the city’s must-see spots without rushing too much with the baby. - After that, either by train or plane, we’ll head to Shenzhen for four days to explore the city and enjoy some attractions with the kids. - Then, Yangshuo for three days to relax a bit from the city hustle and visit the Li River and its surroundings. I haven’t looked into transportation from Shenzhen yet, but I think it’s easily accessible. - Our last day in China will be in Guangzhou (Canton). If possible, I’d like to visit the Huangteng Gorge Skywalk on the same day, or add an extra day for it. I don’t want to do a private tour because it’s extremely expensive, so any great tips combining train/taxi are welcome.

My partner and I are heading to Japan for the first time from mid-December to mid-January for 31 days. It’s a long-held dream we’ve been saving for over two years, and we want to enjoy ourselves while also being mindful of our budget for parts of the trip. We’d love to explore Tokyo, but we’ve chosen to spend more time in nature. My partner plans to get his driver’s license translated locally so we can rent a car. We’ve heard from friends who’ve been that Japan isn’t the best place for improvisation, so we’ve tried to allow plenty of time in each location to avoid rushing. Still, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary we’ve planned—whether it’s feasible in terms of travel and how interesting it seems. Given the recent increase in the JR Pass price and the fact that we’ll spend about ten days on Goto, Ojika, and Yakushima (where the JR Pass doesn’t cover travel), we don’t think it’s worth it for us. Instead, we’re planning to take the train from Tokyo to Fukuoka and then use buses and ferries for the rest of Kyushu. Here’s our itinerary:

1- December 13 / Arrival in Tokyo, one night in Tokyo, then departure for Fukuoka by train on the morning of the 14th.

2 - December 14-16 / 2 nights in Fukuoka, sightseeing, then departure on the evening/night of the 16th by ferry to Ojika Islands.

3 - December 17-21 / 4 nights on Ojika, cycling and exploring, then departure on the 21st by ferry to Fukue on the Goto Islands.

4 - December 21-24 / 3 nights on the Goto Islands, renting a car to explore, maybe a trip to Hisaka. Departure for Nagasaki by ferry on the morning of the 24th.

5- December 24-26 / 2 nights in Nagasaki, visiting the city and memorials, possibly the hot springs in Unzen. Departure on the evening of the 26th by bus or ferry (?) to Kumamoto.

6- December 26-29 / 3 nights in Kumamoto, sightseeing, day trip by car to Mount Aso and surrounding areas. Departure on the 29th in the late afternoon by bus to Kagoshima, overnight in Kagoshima.

7- December 30 to January 2 / Morning departure by ferry to Yakushima for 3 nights, hiking and exploring the island. Departure on January 2 on the only ferry (?) in the early afternoon back to Kagoshima.

8- January 2 to 5 / Uncertain leg... We’d like to spend the night of the 4th to the 5th at a ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen and then head back to Fukuoka and Tokyo by train on the 5th. From the 2nd to the 4th, since we’ll arrive in Kagoshima in the late afternoon, we thought we could head back up to Kumamoto by train or bus—going to Yufuin or Beppu would take much longer and leave us with very little time. But is it worth staying another 2 nights in Kumamoto to explore the area, given we’ll already be there for 3 days from December 26-29? Or should we stay in Kagoshima and head up to Kurokawa Onsen on the afternoon of the 4th for our overnight stay?

9- January 5 to 13, Tokyo and its endless things to do and see, then back to France!

we’re heading to Thailand for 15 days at the end of February/beginning of March.

We haven’t booked our flight tickets yet, but we will soon... we’ve scoured quite a few sites to figure out where to start, but it’s still not clear.

We like to alternate between relaxation on beautiful beaches and sightseeing.

We’re thinking of landing in Bangkok and staying there for 2 or 3 days. Then, we’d spend a day visiting Ayutthaya. I’m skipping Chiang Mai on purpose—it’s too far north. After that, we’d head south (by plane?).

We love snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, or any water sports. We won’t have any means of transportation—no car rental, or at most, a bike! We’ve looked at Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao... and I’m already getting lost with all the options...

The kids might enjoy seeing elephants, but only if it’s done in a way that respects animal welfare.

That’s why I was thinking we could fly back from Bangkok instead of another city.

There are a lot of questions, but the biggest one is figuring out the route.

We’re flying in and out of Montréal and want to visit Montréal, Québec City, Parc de la Gaspésie, and the Saguenay Fjord. What do you think would be the best route to make the most of these spots without racking up too many kilometers each day? Thanks in advance for your help! Catherine

Departure imminent on 10/27. The trip will be a full 18 days. I still have a few questions about transportation for certain legs:

Day 1: Arrival in Fukuoka in the evening at 7:30 PM

Day 2: Fukuoka city

Day 3: Ukiha (car or train?)

Day 4: Itoshima

Day 5: 11/01/2024: Okawa, Omuta (forge), and Yanagawa for the Yanagawa Hakushu Matsuri. A bit ambitious for a single day?

Day 6: Arita / Owakachiyama / rice fields in the evening: Is it better to go from Fukuoka to Arita by car or train?

Day 7: Sasebo + Kujukushima Pearl + fireworks show Day 8: Karatsu (Yobuko market + cave + cape) + Matsuri Kanchi Day 9: Kashima + garden + Tara Day 10: Higashi Sonogi, overnight in Nagasaki. Is it better to return the car in Arita or Nagasaki? Day 11: Nagasaki Day 12: Nagasaki, overnight in Fukuoka, so departure by train from Nagasaki Day 13: Munakata and Oshima, and in the evening, Hanabi Kama

Day 14: Mount Hiko, Toho, Soeda. Is there a pottery village? With or without hands-on experience?

Day 15: Yame (Hoshino tea visit) and Kurume Masure workshop

Days 16, 17, 18, 19: Fukuoka city and maybe Nokonoshima or Kitakyushu

Any suggestions? Does this seem balanced?

En raison du Covid, j'ai dû laisser tomber mes projets voyages en Afrique et je me rabats donc (avec envie tout de même) sur le Pays Basque espagnol pour une petite semaine en novembre. Pour des raisons professionnelles le départ se ferait en voiture de Bordeaux et j'ai imaginé le circuit suivant, si les conditions sanitaires d'ici là le permettent ...

Jour 1 : Départ de Bordeaux pour San Sebastian en voiture, arrivée en début d'après-midi et visite de la ville

Jour 2 : Visite des environs de San Sebastian, avec deux options qui me font hésiter : - visiter l'est entre San Sebastian et la frontière française (Fontarrabie etc.) et revenir dormir sur San Sebastian - visiter l'ouest (Getaria, Zarautz, Orio) et dormir dans ce secteur

Jour 3 : Route vers Bilbao en passant par la côte avec un arrêt vers midi à Gernika et dans l'après midi la visite de San Gaztelugatxe par la route B2235 (a priori non accessible en novembre, y a t'il un intérêt à voir l'endroit ''de loin''?). Nuit à Bilbao avec retour par la route 3101.

Jour 4 : Visite de la biosphère d'Urdaibai dans l'après midi avec une visite de Bilbao dans la matinée.

Jour 5 : Route vers Pampelune en passant plus bas par l'Alava (un autre itinéraire serait-il plus sympa ? Des arrêts à conseiller sur la route ? ). Vaut-il mieux ''tracer'' la veille au soir vers Pampelune pour avoir une journée de plus dans ce secteur ?)

Jour 6 : Visite des Bardenas Reales par l'entrée nord avec un arrêt à Olite. Nuit à Pampelune (ou à Tudela?)

Jour 7 : Ce jour devrait nous permettre de remonter plus au nord, voire en France, pour une dernière halte avant le retour à Bordeaux. Petite hésitation entre passer par une vallée des Pyrénées genre Roncevaux (fin novembre) ou revenir sur la côte et s'arrêter vers Biarritz (peut être répétitif par rapport au reste du voyage ?)

Jour 8 : Route pour Bordeaux où nous devons arriver pour midi !

Voilà en gros ce que mes recherches ont donné avec beaucoup de ''trous''... Je suis ouverte à toutes les suggestions surtout pour les parties un peu floues de mon itinéraire... L'idée n'est pas d'avoir des vacances reposantes. Au niveau voyage, j'aime visiter par la ''route'', les villes sont plutôt pour moi à visiter en soirée autour d'un bon repas sans m'attarder dans les musées etc !

Bonjour, Je prépare un voyage à Kyushu du 24/03 au 08/04 inclus.

Voici une ébauche de mon itinéraire, j' aimerais avoir vos avis sur celui çi. Arrivée le 25/03 à Fukuoka 3nuits Départ le 28 pour Yanagawa, kurume, yame 3nuits Départ le 31 pour Kumamoto 2nuits Départ le 02 pour Kagoshima 2nuits Retour le 04 à Fukuoka 4nuits (Visite de Beppu, Usiki, Itoshi, Hoshino et Kitakyushu)

Pensez-vous qu'il soit possible de tout visiter? Je ne sais pas trop comment organiser mon itinéraire par rapport aux distances des villes. Mes centres d'intêrets sont la visites de temples, les toris sur la mer, les rizières , les plantations de thé, être proche des habitants, la nature...

Je cherche aussi un ryokan assez sympa mais pas hors de prix mais je ne sais pas dans quel endroit il vaut mieux le prendre.

Nous envisageons d'aller visiter les lacs italiens (1ere fois) pour les vacances de la Toussaint, nous disposons d'une petite semaine à partir du 17 octobre. Nous partons en voiture depuis le Var.

J'ai commencé à planifier un petit itinéraire. Qu'en pensez vous? On hésite à inclure Milan! Nous ne savons pas encore si nous devrons rentrer le vendredi ou le samedi soir chez nous.. Donc'il y a 3 possibilités de fin de séjour...

samedi 17 : route tôt vers orta San Giulio. Lac d'orta (5h30) 493km, dejeuner tardif ;parking à l'entrée de la ville. visite village face isola San Giulio. Ascension sacré monte Di orta. . Puis route vers Stresa.30 min, 26 km. nuit à Stresa.

dimanche 18 : iles Borromées, lac Majeur – prendre des tickets pour visiter l'ensemble des îles villas et jardins. Isola Bella puis isola superiore (déjeuner) puis isola madre. nuit à Stresa

Lundi 19 : route vers Menaggio avec visite en route de la ville de Côme. 1h15 de route. Visite de Côme 3h et déjeuner sur place. Puis route vers Lenno 45 min. Arrêt à villa Olmo. Visite du bord du lac. Proximité de l'hôtel. ( ou passage par lac de Lugano avec arrêt shopping store Factory fowtown)? Vous connaissez ce leur de shopping ??

mardi 20 : visite lac de come ( villa del Balbianello. Accès en bateau ou à pied par sentier ) puis villa Carlotta. visite Menaggio en fin de journée.

mercredi 21 : transfert en bateau vers 9h30 vers Bellagio le matin pour visite et dejeuner ( jardin villa melzi, quartier de pescallo et ruelles de Bellagio) , puis l’après midi à Varenna ( village et villa monastero).

jeudi 22 : le matin, route vers Vérone. 3h de route. 200km. Visite Vérone. Puis route vers Sirmione. 40 min. Nuit à Sirmione

vendredi 23 : visite de Sirmione le matin et début après-midi puis retour maison 6h30 de route . 580 km.

Jeudi 22: route vers Sirmione avec visite de Côme puis Bergame au passage.( 3h de route au total), nuit à Sirmione
