Barcelonnette? Or split my time between both to access different areas of the park and avoid too much driving? Also, are there hikes in lush, flower-filled valleys (like alpine meadows)? We’re starting from Montreal, arriving in: Paris – 2 nights (already visited, just going back to see Notre-Dame again, 🫠) Ljubljana – 4 nights (we’ll explore the surrounding area, Bled +++) Vienna – 10 nights (we’ll visit nearby spots) Hallstatt – 2 nights Salzburg – 4 nights Innsbruck – 4 nights Barcelona – 4 nights on the way back to Montreal (the flight ticket was cheaper than returning from Vienna, plus it lets us visit another city 🙃😎)

We’ll be traveling by public transport 😎

Any relevant tips—activities, accommodations, or other info—would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, following a work trip, I’ll have 4.5 days left to get a quick overview of Madagascar during the last week of February. I’ll already have had a good look around Tana (3 days of work and 1.5 days beforehand to see 1 or 2 points of interest 2-3 hours from Tana).

Is it feasible to spend the remaining 4.5 days like this:

- Day 1 & 2 (and maybe the morning of Day 3): relaxing on a coast with a pleasant climate, for example, a one-way flight to Tuléar (there’s a flight on Day 1 at 3 AM) and heading to a nice beach. Ideally, I’d have liked to go toward Morondava (baobabs, beautiful beaches near Belo), but the flight schedules don’t really work, and it wouldn’t let me visit Isalo.

- Then 2 days to head back up via the RN7, ideally with a stop in Isalo, which really appeals to me (I’m an experienced hiker in France), and/or Ranomafana. But do the weather conditions allow for long hikes in that area? Ideally, I’d like to do Tuléar–Tana by public transport up to my first road stop (shared bus? To Isalo?), then find a local hiking guide for the day. And take another transport to another point of interest before returning to Tana, where I have my return flight to France on Day 5 at noon.

My questions: - How to travel from Day 3 to Day 5 from the west coast (Tuléar? Morondava?) back to Tana? I’d prefer not to depend on a guide the whole way, but if I have to 🤷🏽‍♂️) If I choose Morondava, will I miss out on really interesting spots I could’ve seen along the RN7?

I’m open to any suggestions or ideas to make the most of these 4.5 days, like another beach destination I might not have considered (I ruled out Nosy Bé because of the February weather—maybe I was wrong?)

I’m stuck in the airport on a layover, so here’s what I wish I’d known before I left! :)

When I arrived, I got scammed right away at the VODAFONE stand in the airport. They sold me a 20 GB SIM card for 10 €—cash only because their terminal wasn’t working—and it stopped working the next day… After that, I got an Orange SIM in town for 10 €, and it worked perfectly.

I’d booked my airport transfer online with B… for 7 €, but it’s even cheaper on the spot with Indrive—I paid 4 € for the return trip. Indrive helps you avoid getting ripped off, because scamming is basically the national sport here…

Naama Bay, along with Old Sharm, is the heart of the nightlife: a few bars with music and shisha, and tons of shops selling knockoffs. The beach is nice, but there aren’t any corals.

Watch out: the beaches are all paid, costing around 2 to 3 € each time, and you’ll be packed in like sardines on sun loungers that are all squished together! Only hotels have private beaches, often with a shuttle running once or twice a day. Good to know if you’re thinking of renting an apartment…

Another issue with apartments is the food—there’s not much variety in the small supermarkets.

There’s apparently a free beach in Hadaba, but I couldn’t find it. I did find Shark Bay, which is amazing… but it’s a bit far.

At first, I rented an apartment, but I ended up switching to all-inclusive stays at different hotels for the same price…

AVOID booking with STAYFORLONG!!! I booked an all-inclusive stay through them, and when I arrived, the hotel told me it was only half-board! I couldn’t get in touch with them at all… That site is a total scam.

In early February, it’s chilly at night but hot in the sun during the day. The pool water is pretty cold, but the sea is fine for swimming.

The corals are incredible! Take advantage of them!!!

That said, once you’re out of the water, there’s not much else to do…

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out today to gather some great tips for the second part of our trip to South Africa, which will take place from 03/21 to 04/11. We don’t want to rush too much either. We’ll start in Cape Town (tickets already booked) since it seems like a good time to visit this region—except for the whales in Hermanus, which we won’t be seeing. Oh, and I almost forgot, we’re renting a car for both legs of the trip for more freedom.

The first part is planned like this:

- 03/21: Arrival in Cape Town, staying until 03/24 - 03/25: Visit to the Cape, including a stop in Simon’s Town - 2 nights in Stellenbosch from 03/26 to 03/28 - 3 nights in Knysna to explore the area from 03/28 to 03/31 - 03/31: Flight from Port Elizabeth to Durban, where we’ll spend one night in Umhlanga

After that, I’m a bit lost 🙂. Next, I was thinking of doing:

2 nights in St. Lucia 2 nights in Eswatini 4 nights in Kruger Park (2 nights in Skukuza and 2 nights in Balule to visit a private reserve) 1 night at Blyde Canyon 1 night somewhere to get closer to Johannesburg (Graskop?) since we’ll need to return the car by around 11:00 AM on 04/11.

So, does the second part make sense or not? I’ve done quite a bit of research, but I’m still a little lost . We can’t wait to be there, and your valuable advice would be very welcome. Thanks so much in advance, and have a great day! Luis

Hi there, we're traveling in April with our 4-year-old child. We'll be spending a few days in Clarens and would then like to visit Hluhluwe. We don’t want to drive more than 3–4 hours a day, and the driving time is estimated at nearly 7 hours. Do you have any suggestions for a stopover and an Airbnb or guest house (safe town, nature) between Clarens and Hluhluwe where we could spend the afternoon and leave the next day, as well as a safe route? Wednesday, November 15, 2023 Flight Cairns – Sydney Okay, let’s recap. We’ve traveled through Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and tonight we’ll be in New South Wales. We’ll even lose an extra hour—and a bunch of degrees! We’re on a flawless journey so far. One of our suitcases is almost two kilos overweight. The guy checking us in gives us a nice smile and decides to overlook the excess baggage fee.

A flight, for once, without a hitch, no delay (just half an hour…). Taxi… We discover our… room… We’ve got a suite like never before on this trip. It’s a posh apartment on the 7th floor—on cloud nine, really! We can’t believe it. 113.26 € per night! The Meriton Suites Mascot Central if you ever find yourself in this city… We even have a washing machine (and it works!). Such a change from the cabins in the west!



We don’t linger, though. We take the metro. Why? Well, yeah, we’re still kids at heart—off to the Opera House, of course!









Restaurant prices have doubled. Even tripled. We reluctantly settle for a pizzeria because that T-bone for 155 AUD (100 €)…

We know how to handle ourselves. There’s a Woolworths right downstairs. And we’ve got a kitchen, remember! And a terrace! We even have huge bats to brighten up our skies!

We’re planning 4 days in the Drakensberg: 2 days at Royal Natal and two more to do the Sani Pass (but going through a local agency at Sani Lodge). We’ve rented a Toyota Corolla. Is that enough? I bought tickets for Martinique in April 2025 for 15 days, without really looking into what there was to do, and with the idea in my head that we could: hike, do water activities, swim, visit rum distilleries...

But... I’m worried I’ll get bored over 15 days and I’m considering maybe spending 1 week in Guadeloupe and 1 week in Martinique. For example, I don’t know how to spend a whole afternoon at the beach. 2 hours, max.

I know it’s a personal question and depends on how you travel, but I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve done it: - Did you feel too rushed? - Is it reasonable to do? - How much time would you spend on each island?

Hi everyone, I’m stopping just giving advice on new topics to others and leading by example. Here’s a quick recap of my Manakara–Fort Dauphin route via the ferry + 10 track (RN12). The road is changing: bridges are being built, some sections are being paved. By bike, it’s doable, though some sandy stretches are still pretty tough if you’re as overloaded as I was... Left Manakara’s Hôtel Les Délices on the 11th with my pretty beat-up blue bike...

Evening of the 11th: Ivohipeno Hôtel La Source.

12th–15th: Farafangana’s must-visit Hôtel Concombre Masqué, bike prep. 16th: Vangaindrano—Hôtel Chez Huguette was full, so I went to Tropic Hôtel, which is nice even with plumbing issues. Did my shopping since it’s the last real town. 17th: Chez Flavienne—her real job is singer/dancer, and she has cute little bungalows before the village of... I never found it on GPS or maps. A bit basic but welcoming, with Flavienne taking great care of me. 18th: Manombondro—the "friends’ spot," yikes, avoid! The restaurant’s okay, but the room is really rough: sketchy shower, the room opens right onto the main road where all the 4x4s gather. Good for tips, but better to sleep elsewhere...

20th: Taking one of the many alternative tracks, I got lost and camped under my tent less than 5 km from Sandravinany. 21st: Sandravinany—first day at Mamie Louise’s, average hotel. Vesslasse, the manager, is great. 22nd: The next day, I went back to the fisherman’s cabin I’d thought was closed the day before—awesome! Perfect location with a lagoon view.





Vesslasse stops by regularly to offer his services—he knows everyone, is efficient, and super friendly. I treated myself to a few days of contemplative relaxation before taking a pirogue toward the coastal track on the morning of the 25th—big mistake! Hardly anyone around to ask for directions, so I got lost multiple times, did a bunch of backtracking, and dealt with a lot of sand... Check out this YouTube video: From Sandravinany to the Sand Track 25th: Maroroy—chez Louisette, can’t miss it: right after the ferry, by the water, super relaxing. By the water, super relaxing. 26th: Manantenina—the very nice (and for me, too expensive) bungalows of Jean-Philippe were full, so I stayed at Hôtel Le Bleu, small bungalows with a restaurant on the main road. 27th: Sainte Luce—I got a ride from a UNICEF 4x4, so I *had* to stay at Hôtel Vah’inn—expensive but right on the water, with a pool table and good food. 28th: Fort Dauphin—Hôtel Nepenthes: central (steep climb to get there!) but nice bungalows.



Fort Dauphin has plenty of very affordable hotels. After that, I headed back to Tulear in a shared 4x4 (Godzilla)—two pretty grueling days, but the driver was really nice.

CORSICA From September 24, 2024 to October 9, 2024 Thank you, thank you, thank you for reactivating my favorite forum, which has given me so many ideas for my trips since... 2008—it’s been ages, as they say! So, to celebrate its return, I’m sharing this little travel journal from our latest road trip, not too long ago, since it was Corsica in the autumn. Autumn is the ideal season to visit Corsica: fewer tourists, perfect temperatures around 25°C, and, most importantly, less stress on the roads. You can feel it everywhere. Servers and shopkeepers are more relaxed and have time to chat (yes, Corsicans do talk... but not all of them!)

09/24 Arrival in Erbalunga Whether you're from northern France or Belgium, like us, the easiest way to reach the Isle of Beauty is by flying from Lille-Lesquin Airport. Volotea offers two destinations: Bastia and Ajaccio. Be careful, though—while the ticket prices are attractive, the airline makes up for it with baggage fees. A 25kg suitcase for 212 €—that really drives up the cost of transportation! For us, it’ll be Bastia. After this short flight and an arrival that lets you clearly see the east coast of Cap Corse, we’re welcomed by our friend Jean-Claude, who’s kindly hosting us for a few days. We met this Corsican and his wife during our four-year stay in French Guiana, and I have to say, he completely changed my opinion of Corsicans and even made me want to visit his island. The house, clinging to the rock above the sea, is stunning and offers a breathtaking view of the island of Elba. I’d always heard of Elba but must admit I wouldn’t have known where to place it before. We’ll stay here for five nights, long enough to explore the north of the island.



Since we’ve just arrived, Jean-Claude wants to show us his village, ERLALUNGA, a quiet little port, and the small village of CASTELLO above it, where he spent a lot of time in his childhood...

My husband and I would like to spend a few weeks in Jan-Feb-Mar 2025 in Spain.☺️ Our main criteria: shopping, hiking, long walks along the sea, climate 15-24°C, easy transport, languages (French, English, or Spanish), 🥂🏌️‍♀️🚴🎾☀️🎼🏝️ We’ve already been to Marbella and Alicante. However, we don’t know these places apart from suggestions from friends who’ve visited them. 🤔 We’re thinking of renting an apartment or condo near the sea and maybe a car from time to time! Oh, the good news—the site is back up after such a long closure. I think many of us were really missing it, though some have moved on to other forums like Routard. Hopefully, activity will pick up little by little. Travel habits have probably changed post-Covid, and some regulars won’t be coming back for all sorts of reasons. But for the rest of us, the forum is here for travel journals and pre-trip questions. Anyway…

Back to the main point: my last trip to Madagascar was a while ago now—about a year—on the High Plateaus during the austral winter. It was really chilly, and to be honest, my feelings were mixed between the joy of returning to Madagascar and the sadness of seeing the state of the country. The infrastructure is crumbling, and the population is sinking into poverty at unprecedented levels. The country’s closure likely had immeasurable consequences, compounded by destructive cyclones. Even secondary cities have seen large numbers of rural people arriving in search of work, while some rural areas barely allow survival. I’ve never felt such despair over the situation in 20 years.

From Tana to Fianar, it was nothing but heartbreaking observations. Probably made worse by the drizzle and cold typical of that season in the region.

In a few weeks, I’m planning to return to the High Plateaus and also Sainte Marie. On that note, a few questions: has anyone stayed at Samaria Cosy Lodge, and what did you think of it? On Île aux Nattes, which hotel would you recommend for a few peaceful days, ideally on the coast best suited for snorkeling?

J’ai comme projet de partir avec mon chien en itinérance vélo en Septembre de Toulouse à nice . Je souhaite passer par montpelier puis marseille puis destination finale. J’ai un peu étudié l’itinéraire et je pensais prendre le canal de Toulouse jusqu’à Sète. Première question connaissez vous le chemin le plus sécurisé pour rejoindre montpelier depuis Sète ? Je vais tirer mon chien grâce à une remorque enfant et donc je souhaiterais éviter le plus possible les routes avec beaucoup de passages. En-suite je voulais savoir si quelqu’un l’avait déjà fait ? Puis de montpelier à Nice je pensais emprunter l’eurovelo 08 . Je voulais savoir si quelqu’un connaissais une meilleure option car je souhaite vraiment m’arrêter à Marseille et cette route longe mais n’y passe pas tout à fait. Dernièrement je suis en train de préparer le voyage et j’ai la remorque pour chien mais je compte investir dans un vélo solide , en vue de ce projet et des futures projets sachant que j’ai le poids d’un chien de 24 Kg a tirer. je me suis renseignée et chaque site propose une marque et un vélo différent dit performant et il y en a tellement et tellement de marques. Je n’ai pas non plus un énorme budget sachant que je compte acheter tout le matériel qui’il faut avec mais je comptes quand même investir un peu dans le vélo . Alors avez vous des conseils pour le vélo , la marque et le matériel que ce du matériel de bikepacking et toutes autres conseils que vous poubez me donner ?

Je ne pratique pas encore le ski alpin, mais le ski de fond , raquettes , fat bike . Covid oblige, on pense faire un voyage hivernal avec de beaux paysages dans notre propre pays . On a pensé à l’Alberta ou Colombie-Britannique. Whistler , oubliez ça , 650$ en moyenne la nuit pour une chambre seulement !!! J’ai regardé Canmore et Fernie , plus abordables . Laquelle entre les deux est mieux comme destination hivernale et avec bons restaurants ?

Bonjour, un nouveau projet, pourquoi pas.

Après 5 voyages aux USA, nous avons décidé de changer de lieu, un peu aidé aussi par une visite à faire a une amie à Victoria. Certes on aurait bien aimé qu’elle soit sur la côte est mais voilà. Nous prévoyons de faire une halte de quelques jours à Victoria dans le courant du mois de juin puis de rejoindre Montréal.

Une rapide présentation s’impose. Nous sommes un couple de retraité qui aura 71 ans à cette époque. On voyage en voiture avec les nuits en motels/hôtels, aucune expérience avec les B&B qui semblent très courant dans ce pays. Comme je suis le seul conducteur, j’ai volontairement limité les trajets à environ 300km/jour à la suite d’une mauvaise expérience en 2017. On aime bien randonner mais maintenant, on se contente de petites distances assez faciles, au besoin on en fera plusieurs par jour.

Dans le circuit ci-dessous, je n’ai, bien sûr, pas indiqué tous les petits arrêts inévitables ici ou là. Comme vous le voyez, les dates ne sont pas fixes et le nombre de jours peut aussi évoluer un peu. Donc rien n’est réservé !

J'ai fait 2 voyages, j'y ai passé plusieurs mois, j'en ai jamais rencontré un seul d'honnête, j'en viens à me demander si ils connaissent ce terme.

Souvent c'est bête. Dernier exemple en date. Je demande à une copine ou plutôt pas en tout cas je ne doit pas être son ami malgré que sa mère me dise qu'elle aime m'avoir en ami si un n° est son Zalo. C'est pas dur de me dire oui ou non ou oui mais je ne m'en sert plus (vrai ou pas) et bien non elle a lu mais pas répondu, sa mère pareil.Elles utilisent les mêmes compte, c'est compliqué de savoir à qui je parle. Elle veux pas m'ajouter sur Zalo mais en même temps elle ne veux pas me mentir donc elle ne réponds pas.

J'ai pris cette exemple car c'est le plus récent mais en gros c'est ça : ne pas répondre, ne pas être honnête pour ne pas blesser. Ça part peut-être d'un bon sentiment mais c'est flagrant qu'ils ne sont pas honnête, ça me blesse encore plus.

La Corse a toujours été un de nos projets. Projets qui comme pour beaucoup est remis en cause avec le Covid. Ce voyage se fera. Quand? Nous ne le savons pas, mais il se fera. Alors pour passer rêver un peu tout en ayant les fesses vissées sur mon canapé qui en a autant marre de les voir vissées sur lui que moi sur lui, j'ai commencé à élaborer un projet Corse!

Mais dans chacun de mes voyages, Voyage forum a été d'une aide précieuse grâce aux conseils plein d'expériences des membres! Alors une fois de plus, je me pose là, à lire, à voir mon projets critiqués, changé, décidé.

Car mon projet de parcours n'est qu'un projet. Ne soyez pas tendre, dites la vérité, ce que vous pensez réellement! Votre expérience peut rendre la mienne bien plus réussie.

Nous partirons avec notre fils qui a quasi 6 ans aujourd'hui (le projet se fera en 2021 au pire donc pas de grande différence d'âge).

Voici mon projet:

J1: Arrivée à Bastia le matin, visite de la ville. Nuit sur place. J2: Tour de Sénèque (Luri). Puis départ pour Saint-Florent, visite de la ville et nuit sur place. J3: Excursion en bateau depuis Saint-Florent pour le désert des Agriates. Après l'excursion, départ pour l'Ile Rousse après un stop à Murato. Nuit à l'Ile Rousse. J4: Matinée tranquille où nous prendrons du bon temps sur la Plage de l'Ostriconi. L'après-midi, nous allons voir le village d'Occi, puis départ pour Calvi. Visite de la ville et nuit sur place. J5: Départ pour Corte, visite de la ville et nuit sur place. J6: Départ pour Aléria après des stops à La Porta et Valle-di-Campoloro pour leurs églises. Visite du site antique d'Aléria. Départ ensuite pour Ghisonaccia pour une nouvelle église puis départ pour Lecci et nuit sur place. J7: Journée détente à Lecci. Nuit sur place. J8: Petit tour au Castellu d’Araggio, au Castellu de Tappa et au Rocher d'Oriu. Nuit sur Lecci. J9-J10: Journées détente à Lecci. Nuit sur place. J11: Départ pour Bonifacio, visite de la ville. Nuit sur Sartène. J12: Petit tour aux alignements d’I Stantari et Rinaghju et au dolmen de Funtanaccia à Sartène, puis à Cucuruzzu, Capula et San Larenzu (Levie) et pour finir la journée au col de Bavella. Nuit dans les environs de celui-ci. J13: Matinée tranquille sans rien de prévu. Puis, départ pour Olmeto, puis Sollacaro pour son site préhistorique. Nuit sur Ajaccio. J14: Visite d'Ajaccio. Nuit sur Ajaccio. J15: Excursion en bateau pour Scandola, Calanques de Piana et Girolata. Nuit sur Ajaccio. J16: Visite d'A Cupulatta Parc des tortues le matin. Excursion aux Iles Sanguinaires l'après-midi. Nuit sur Ajaccio. J17: Balade à la presque’île de Parata . Départ de l'ïle de Beauté en début de soirée.

bonjour puisque l' on va rester en France ces prochains mois , pourquoi pas se balader dans cette région ? mais comme l' on va éviter les refuges , connaissez vous de belles randos a la journée , pour 5 a 6 jours Merci

Pour l'été prochain nous envisageons, ma femme et moi, une petite virée en Espagne. Ayant déjà fait la Sicile et le Portugal en plein été, on peut dire qu'on ne craint pas trop la chaleur. En tout cas on fait avec... Voila donc ce que l'on a prévu. Qu'en pensez-vous ? Est ce réaliste ? D'autres suggestions ? Nous ne passons ni à Tarragone, ni à Barcelone que nous connaissons déjà. Bonjour, Nous organisons généralement nos "grandes vacances" sous forme d'un voyage découverte + prolongation dans un bon hôtel. J'envisage une croisière de 15 jours dans les Caraïbes avec départ et arrivée en Martinique, je cherche donc à prolonger quelques jours à partir de là.

Nous y sommes allés en 2000 aux 3 îlets mais j'ai oublié le nom de l'hôtel qui était plutôt moche, sale, resto genre cantine, ... Bien sur c'était il y a 20 ans mais les compte-rendus que je trouve sur Tripadvisor sont plutôt négatifs même sur les hôtels haut de gamme en Martinique (La Pagerie, Cap Est, ...).

D'où ma question : connaissez vous un très bon hôtel 5* à la Martinique sinon dans une île proche (Ste Lucie, Dominique, ...) ou même un peu plus loin en avion ?

Pour donner une idée de ce que nous cherchons, derniers séjours que nous avons apprécié : Shangri La à Sentosa (Singapour), Victoria Beachcomber à l'île Maurice. Grand merci d'avance

Je pars seulement 8 j en Guadeloupe et j'aimerai connaitre vos incontournables en 6 j ( arrivee et depart exclus) . Beaucoup lu sur le sujet mais souvent en 10 ou 15 j. Je sejourne a Baie-Mahault et loue une voiture. D'avance merci pour vos conseils

Je n'ai pas trouvé de post à ce sujet lorsque j'ai fouillé le forum et de très vagues infos en ''farfouillant'' sur le net. Trop d'imbroglios entre les différents aéroports et les réelles proximités avec ce fameux NOUVEL aéroport d'istanbul (IST) Havalimani (depuis avril 2019).

Situé à une petite cinquantaine de kilomètres des visites essentielles du centre, la jonction se fait en taxi, à environ de 160 à 200 TL (livre turque) selon la destination (soit de 25 à 30€ (1€=6,5TL aujourd'hui). Soit avec un périple métro/bus (très bien expliqué sur un fil de discussion sur ce même forum). Pour pas cher, mais un peu rédhibitoire après la fatigue d'un long vol. Soit par un service de navettes. Assez cher et avec les barrières d'horaires précis et pas toujours adaptés à ceux de votre atterrissage. Il y a aussi Touristanbul proposé par la TK.

Nous, après mûre réflexion, nous avons choisi le repos avec des toilettes et une salle de bain privées, pour nos quasi 9 heures de stopover.

Nous avons booké à l'hôtel Dusuru club à Arnavutköy. A une quinzaine de minutes de l'aéroport, avec navette possible (20€ one way) ou taxi jaune (compteur) à une soixantaine de TL (entre 8 et 10€). Un parc boisé immense et un complexe de bâtiments à un seul étage complètement perdu dans la campagne. Des chambres vieillissantes mais l'essentiel (dont des draps propres) est là. 45€ avec le petit déjeuner (pas super mais suffisant). Ce qui met le repos entre 2 vols fatiguants (dont le premier était de 10h) à 65€ (hôtel + aller/retour en taxi)

Très acceptable lorsqu'on voit les prix de l'hôtel d'aéroport Yotel (de 125 à 144€) Il en existe 3 ou 4 autres (dont des GH) mais aucunes réponses à nos questions par mail n'a été possibles avec aucun d'entre eux. Il faut payer d'abord pour déclencher une conversation. Bons voyages
