En fait de route des Indes, ce n’est que l’arrivée… Mes carnets m’ont été subtilisé lors d’un déménagement. Quelques lettres sont la seule trace écrite de mes premiers voyages au long cours. J'avais saisie cette trace sur ordinateur il y a longtemps, dans l’idée d’en faire quelque chose un jour… …un jour… et les jours passent… et le jour arrive…

Mi-septembre 1977, je prenais "La route des Indes", traversant en autobus Turquie, Afghanistan, Pakistan, avec Cola qui avait alors 3 ans et demi. Internet, ou l’idée même d’Internet, n’existait pas encore… passé des âges et des moments… Le courrier mettait une dizaine de jours à arriver, écrit sur des aérogrammes. On m'avait conseillé d'éviter les timbres collés sur une enveloppe car, disait-on ("on" ?), les indiens les décollent pour les revendre et… le message n’arrive jamais. Je ne sais ce qu'il en est, j'ai suivi le conseil. La date estampillant les aérogrammes est lisible. Une enveloppe aurait pu se perdre…

Par mégarde, j'avais oublié quelques films NB de 100 iso dans mon sac avant de reprendre l'avion à Istambul pour Paris Ils sont passés en théorie aux rayons après l'enregistrement. Par curiosité, j'en ai développé un, et surprise : rien. Pas la moindre trace de voile, le film est aussi transparent que du verre.

Bon, dans l'histoire, j'ai récupéré les autres films que je vais pouvoir utiliser, mais que s'est-il passé ? 1 - Les machines de contrôle des bagages de soute ne sont pas si méchantes que ça pour les films, malgré leur réputation 2 - Elles n'étaient pas branchées 3 - Les contrôles ne sont pas systématiques et sont faits au hasard

je suis arrive de russie pour partir ensuite vers la chine, mais ca marche dans les deux sens : le train oulan-ude pour ulaan baatar coute cher; les billets ne sont pas forcement facile a choper quand on fait des haltes a vagabonder hors du trace du transib et le periple est long, a cause de la frontiere (on m'a raporte des delais de 5, 7 et meme 9 heures de passage de douanes !) alors le bon plan, c'est le bus ulan-ude UB direct, qui met 11 heures, soit deux fois moins de temps que le train, et surtout coute deux fois moins cher !!!!! il part a 8h du mat place lenine, devant la grosse tete du revolutionnaire, 4 ou 5 jours par semaine, le billet peut se prendre directement dans le bus, sinon, pour se tuyauter sur les jours et reserver en avance, on peut contacter Bouriatintour ou quelque chose dans ce gout-la, present dans le lonely planet, base a ulan-ude. arrivee a 18-20 heures a UB, ca laisse le temps de rejoindre son hotel et puis le bus, ca change du train russe et des vans mongols... autre plan fute-dute pour sortir de mongolie le train direct est difficile a choper : les billets sont quasiment tous achetes d'avance par des agences de voyage qui les revendent ensuite au double du prix normal, vestige de corruption communiste... plusieurs solutions : -avec de la chance, c'est possible de trouver un ticket, ca coute 66 usd en gros -sinon c'est possible de se pointer en avance du train hebdo en provenance de moscou, dont le nombre de place dispo est inconnu, ce qui penible quand on est en vien de visa, avec du pot il y a moyen de degotter un ticket -autre solution, une soit-disant agence de voyage achete pour toi des billets, avec une correspondance en chine : soit UB-Ereen en train puis Ereen-Beijing en bus, soit UB-un bled en train et un bled-Beijing en train (jecrois que le bled, c'est hothot), moyennant evidemment commission, le tout revient a 50 usd, c'est deja moins cher, sauf que ca ne marche pas tous les jours -la derniere solution, la meilleure, c'est un train domestique pour Zamyn Uud a 5500 T soit 5 usd en hard seat, tres confort apres les vans mongols (en fait ce sont des wagons de plastkartn russes avec plus de monde dedans). Le trajet se fait de nuit, depart a 16h30 arrivee a 7ou 8 heures. Ensuite, il faut traverser la frontiere, en jeep ou en bus, il y a des rabatteurs de partout, negocier ferme, autour de 50 yuans ou 7500 T pour Ereen (attention de ne rien laisser dans la bagnole au passage des douanes sinon le chauffeur se casse, c'est arrive a des potes !!) et enfin prendre un bus de nuit chinois pour Beijing, meme chose, en marchandant ferme, le prix passe de 150 a 120 voire a 100 yuans. Il y a pletore de bus et la competition est sans pitie, tous partent a la meme heure en convoi, a 14heures pour arriver a la capitale au petit matin entre 6 et 8 heures. Au total, ca revient a 30 dollars, dont moitie moins cher !!!!!! et ca mets peut-etre 5 heures de plus sur le total du trajet, et il y a toujours des places !!! a bon entendeur tom

qui peut me parler de ce lodge ? a 80 km environ de chiang mai, c'est un endroit qui a l'air paisible, et qui me tente beaucoup mais je n'en trouve trace que chez des tour oprateur (asia et...je ne me souviens plus) est ce que quelqu'un peut me dire si on peut trouver facielement a y aller en individuel ?

J'ai le projet le projet de faire la traversée des Alpes depuis chez moi ( Lausanne ) en trekking jusqu'à Nice. Je ne vais pas forcement suivre le GR 5 mais plus faire tracé maison par les sentier de randonnée balisé bien sur.

J'ai déjà fais un début de tracé mais je ne connais pas suffisamment le reste du parcours pour me décider 🤪. Première hésitation : je ne sais pas si je vais passer du coté Nord du Mont-Blanc ( France ) ou du coté Sud (Italie) jusqu'à Bourg-St-Morice. 😕

Depuis Bourg-St-Maurcie je vais faire la traversée du parc de la Vanoise. Mais par quel chemin ? J'attends vos conseils.

J'attend avec impatience vos commentaire, vos avis et surtout si vous avez de bon conseil pour emprunter des sentiers plus jolie que le GR 5, des chose a ne pas louper, des endroits ou camper et se genre de petit truck.

Pour mieux me conseiller, j'aime particulièrement les paysage et la marche en moyen montage ( au dessus de la limite des arbres et en dessous de la neige )

De plus pour ceux qui serait motiver, je serai ravit de les accueillirs dans mon périple 😉

Mais bon, je surf sur de nombreux sites dont beaucoup avec photos d'internautes de retour de voyages et il y a une constante... des montagnes relativement arrides et pas trace de forêts tropicales ou de plages. Du côté de Buenos aires n'y a-t-il pas de plages exotiques ?arrêtez de rire mais je préfére en avoir la certitude ! car moi sans mon exotisme il me manque quelque chose. Je ne suis pas montagne, un peu ça va. Alors ayez la gentillesse d'éclairer un peu ma chandelle.

Des rives de la Tamise à celles du Niger, voilà comment on pourrait résumer "Water Music" de TC Boyle, que je viens de finir. Ce livre est foisonnant, un vrai labyrinthe, une explosion permanente, un dédale où le lecteur se perd et se retrouve dans la trace de l'explorateur anglais Mungo Park (1771-1805).

Il rêvait de découvrir les sources du Niger. Après un premier voyage apocalyptique, il persiste et revient pour accomplir son rêve. Rien ne lui est épargné, la faim, la soif, la maladie, la perte de ses compagnons, le trafic d'esclaves, la prison, les cannibales, les bêtes féroces. Mais il continue, envers et contre tous. Jamais il n'abandonne, malgré les embuscades incessantes des tribus rencontrées tout au long des 1600 km parcourus. La dernière attaque lui sera fatale, tous se noient dans le fort courant en essayant de fuir par le fleuve. Seuls le guide et un porteur en réchappent. Ce sont eux, qui par la suite ont raconté la triste fin de Mungo Park, explorateur intrépide et courageux mort à 34 ans pour avoir voulu connaître le monde et le faire connaître à ses contemporains.

Passionnant de bout en bout, mais il faut s'accrocher pour résister à toutes ces turbulences...

J'ai lut dans un des poste que je n'était pas le seul a le lire en ce momant (j'ai toujours pas recut carnet afghan, mais sa reste sur la région donc c'est pas mal). C'est un livre de Olivier Weber qui reprend la route de la soie, sur les trace (a contre courant) de la vie du maitre du soufisme (enfin sa forme la plus connut) ROUMIE.

Je trouve que c'est bien écrit bien que le découpage des chapitre trés cours m'a un peut décontenancer au début ..., c'est vraie aussi que les reprise historique sont parfois un longue ... mais néanmoin je le dévore ...

Je me semande si il a écrit ce livre durant la mission Paris Kaboul ou si ce voyage (en voiture de Venise à Kaboul) est un voyage de reconnaissance pour la mission qui a suivit, quelqu'un a eu l'info. Je m'explique, nul part il fait eéférence a cette mission culturel et humanitaire, pourtant il parle de personnes afghan qui sont également dans la mission et de sa vielle voiture (qu 'il aurait aussi utilisé durant la mission) ..

😉 de source récente, il parait qu'il existe un express train Bombay/margao. 8 heures de transport environ. rêve ou réalité ? je ne trouve pas trace de ce train... nous serons à bombay le 18 octobre, avec notre fille de 10 ans et je me demande s'il ne serait pas plus simple de réserver.

Salut amie voyageur(se) !!! Cette été j'envisage de relier Strasbourg à St Pertersbourg (Russie) en vélo avec un copain. J'ai déjà un peu voyagé, surtout dans les pays anglosaxons cependant j'aimerai bénéficier de quelques conseils qui pourraient m'orienter dans mon périple... Je suis actuellement dans la phase achat du matériel, demande de visa et tracé global du voyage, donc si vous avez une expérience dans ces domaines à vélo ou sur les pays tels que Allemagne, Littuanie, Lettonie, Pologne et bien sûr Russie n'hésitez pas à m'envoyez un mail!

Summer 2022 left me with a sense of unfinished business, so here I am back in Swedish Lapland for summer 2024, ready to attempt the Sarek crossing again—and this time, tackle part of the Kungsleden too.

After much hesitation, my partner Jean Marie and I decided to start with the Kungsleden, which is, from what we’ve read, stunning but very busy (and it really is!!), and finish with the wilder option: SAREK! This park is known as Europe’s last true wilderness—sounds like a dream, right?! The downside of this plan is that there’s no way to resupply in Sarek, and the Kungsleden isn’t exactly set up for long-distance trekking either, so we’ll have to carry a lot of food for the first part of the trip with Sarek in mind. Oh well, we’re motivated!

Our plan is to start in Abisko (the classic route), head to Vakkotavare (also classic, but with some variations to avoid the official trail and the crowds), then continue the Kungsleden from Saltoluokta. Before reaching Aktse, we’ll set off on an east-to-west crossing of Sarek (weather-dependent, since aside from the Skarja hut in the center of the park, there’s no shelter if conditions turn bad). At least we’ll be on the right side of the park to climb Skierfe and enjoy the jaw-dropping view of Rappaladen if we have to bail on Sarek.

All in all, that’s 17 days of trekking, including 1 rest day and 1 buffer day for weather delays.

I’m making an exception and creating a separate post this time, since it’s all about France. In May, we spent a week in Provence, specifically in the Luberon, exploring the cycling routes *Autour du Luberon à Vélo*, the *Véloroute du Calavon* (part of EuroVelo 8), and the shorter *Les Ocres à Vélo* route. Together, they gave us an amazing journey through rolling hills, vineyards, lavender fields still green in spring, and some of the most stunning landscapes in southern France.



It was, of course, the perched villages that impressed us the most. We visited Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmarin, Ménerbes, Oppède-le-Vieux, Cucuron, and Lauris. Many of them are among the most beautiful villages in Provence, and it’s hard not to agree with that reputation.









One interesting point is the route of EuroVelo 8 in this part of the region. The official path mainly follows the old railway line of the *Véloroute du Calavon*, which is very comfortable and safe. But in our opinion, cyclists traveling EuroVelo 8 around the Mediterranean would discover even more treasures if the route passed through villages like Bonnieux, Lacoste, or Oppède-le-Vieux.





We were also pleasantly surprised by how safe cycling felt. Most of the route takes small local roads, but traffic is light, drivers are respectful, and road design really takes cyclists into account. It’s one of those places where you can ride peacefully even without separated bike lanes.

Hi there, I’ve been road cycling for several years, and I’m about to switch to gravel in the next few days—I’m waiting for my bike, which should arrive this week. I’m planning a bikepacking trip in a few weeks along the Véloroute V81, also known as the Vélosud, from Biarritz to Le Barcarès. Has anyone here already done this route? Any info is welcome, whether it’s about the route itself, gear, or accommodation. I’ll prioritize staying with locals as much as possible. On that note, I just signed up for the brand-new site *Guidon et Couette* ((www.guidon-et-couette.fr)), which offers free accommodation between cyclists across the country, but there’s almost no one listed along my route! 😉Hi there, A few months ago, CFC put the EN VOGUE experience on sale, departing from Dunkirk. I booked this package to test the boat and onboard services for myself. I’d read a lot of reviews mentioning numerous issues on board, so I wanted to see for myself what it was really like…

Okay, I’ll stop rambling… The package included boarding at 6 PM on Friday, dinner, a show, an overnight stay, and breakfast. We chose an interior cabin for this experience—since the boat wasn’t leaving the dock, we didn’t see the point in paying more… All in all, it cost 130 € per person. My mom joined us; she got the same cabin for 130 € with no single occupancy supplement.

We’d checked in online to board faster. We took the train to DUNKIRK, then a taxi to the shuttle pavilion—7 € for the ride. When we arrived at the pavilion, we were told to wait because there was a connection issue with check-in. Great start… After about ten minutes, we were finally allowed to proceed. At the counter, they said they didn’t have our cabin cards and no record of our check-in… Very odd. With no solution, they put us on the bus and said we’d sort it out at reception. Perfect. We went through security, and they confiscated our water bottles—never seen that before! Then they said my mom had a corkscrew in her bag, so they searched it… but there was no corkscrew. Total amateur hour… They eventually dropped it.

We got on the bus for a ten-minute ride… We boarded the ship with a crew member and headed to reception. Turns out, we weren’t the only ones in this situation. The nightmare began… Only two staff members were handling all the issues, and everything seemed complicated. They told my mom her cabin had been given to someone else 😲. That was the last straw…

It took forever—they had to redo the entire check-in. Finally, they told my mom her cabin was good to go; they’d mixed her up with someone else… After a solid half-hour, we could finally head to our cabin.

I’m determined to test everything: the pool, jacuzzi, show, restaurant, spa, etc… TO BE CONTINUED

hi, I'm planning a recumbent bike trip from the Pyrenees to Greece. On the EuroVelo 8 route, it doesn't specify the path through the Alps. Are there any experienced cyclists here who can tell me where they go to avoid climbing too high? Also, is there another traveler/bike forum better suited for broadening the responses? thanks

We’re planning to hike the GRR2 this summer with a local agency that offers a self-guided south-to-north route. We’re active and hike regularly, but we’ve never done a trek just the two of us without a guide.

I’d love to know if this trail has any dangerous areas? Drop-offs? Are there spots where it’s easy to lose the path?

I’ve seen that some agencies offer a GPS app—does the signal even reach everywhere inland? 🤪

My plan for next November is to head back (yet again) to the Annapurnas to complete a route I’d always promised myself I’d do one day. Here’s the breakdown:

1. Start from Sikles and join the Annapurna Circuit by first going through Kori, then the Namun La (or Namun Bhanjyang). It’s a bit of a forgotten route, and I haven’t found much info on it—no .gpx files or firsthand accounts. Still, I’ve roughly mapped it out using different sources.

2. After that, I plan to head up to Phu to do the direct Phu Pass/Naar Pass traverse to Naar. It’s doable in 2 days, but why not in 1 if the weather’s good and I set off early enough?

3. Finally, I’ll head toward the Mesokanto North Pass (after a short camp at Tilicho North BC) to descend the entire Gandaki Valley down to Nayapul.

I’m obviously looking for any tips or feedback (if you’ve got any), and maybe a travel buddy who’s up for a little off-the-beaten-path adventure. 😄

Hi, Back from South Africa since 24/10/25, we’re having trouble getting our deposit back after renting a car at Cape Town Airport with Pace Car Rental through Carwiz! It’s still a sum over 1000 €!! Lots of email exchanges via WhatsApp where they send me the refund proof dated 25/11, but my bank can’t find any trace of it!! Just to clarify, the car was returned without a scratch, as they confirmed! Has anyone else run into this issue with this rental company, or others for that matter? And if it’s a scam, what are the possible courses of action? I’m hoping there are some… I was thinking of contacting our Consulate in Cape Town to see if they can help with the next steps or even intervene with this rental company! This kind of practice isn’t going to help boost tourism relations with South Africa!! Thanks for your feedback, Dan

I got a handlebar bag for my bike with a KlickFix system and a Galaxy Tab A tablet. I can fit the tablet into the waterproof transparent pouch on the bag—it’s absolutely awesome, I’ve got my dashboard right on the handlebar! I’d like to use Locus Map for geolocation and create a route from Nantes to Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine. On my PC, with Locus Map, I see the interface on the left to create a planned route (like in the red-framed screenshot below). But on my tablet (using the app), I can’t find the interface to create a planned route from point A to B like I can on the PC. I need help figuring out how to create a route from A to B on my tablet with Locus Map—I know how to find and download a GPX file, but for Nantes to Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine, there’s no GPX file available online. Also, does anyone know how to remove the ads on Locus Map?

I’d like to book a few nights at the Ramabanta Trading Post in November, but I’m running into a lot of issues. They don’t work with the usual booking platforms. Their website is flagged as unsafe, but I took the risk and accessed it anyway—after each visit, our server was massively attacked... I’ve sent them several emails and received a response with prices, but no reply or confirmation once I specified my choices. My English isn’t great, so I’m not keen on calling (plus, I prefer having a written record of my bookings). Has anyone been in the area recently and have any info on what’s going on and how to book?
