pour passer du mexique(yucatan) au guate(flores), c'est mieux de passer par le belize ou par palenque? Et au guate, quels endroits sont à ne pas rater en passant par tikal-atitlan-antigua? de plus que faut-il compter comme temps entre ces sites? je n'ai aucune idée des liaisons (jamais voyagé en amérique centrale) et j'aimerais pouvoir profiter des endroits ou on passe, sans avoir l'impression de faire du voyage à la tour operator, 5min par ci, 5min par la...

Bonjour! je me marie debut juillet, et apres nous partons le 13 juillet 1 mois en routard a Bali, java et soit sumatra, soit flores.Mais avant de commencer ce périple, j'aimerais me poser 3 jours a l'arrivée a ubud et offrir a la future"veinarde" 3 nuit dans un superbe endroit qui fasse tres lune de miel, tres confidentiel et confortable et inoubliable... rien que cela!! Apres, les logements seront plus routards alors si vous avez des adresses inoubliables pour vous, pensez a moi(enfin a nous..) En meme temps sans etre radin, si vous pouviez me spécifier le prix, ça pourrait m'aider dans mon choix(maxi 75 euros a 2, budget maximal) merci d'avance, et si en plus vous me donnez des bons plans pour les vols A-R paris-dempasar(que je n'arrive pas a trouver a moins de 1100 euros par personne), j'aurais vraiment l'impression de converser avec dieu le pere!!!!!!

Voici un résumé de notre séjour en Indonésie du 13 setptembre au 12 octobre 2003.

Les prix données à titre indicatif sont en Roupies (1 Euro = 9600Rp).

Notre voyage était axé autour d'une croisière plongée de 15 jours du côté d'Alor (est de Florès) et de Komodo (ouest de Florès) suivi d'une semaine à Bali.

Nous sommes arrivés à Bali et sommes restés une journée à Sanur qui est est très tranquille et reposante. Actuellement Bali souffre encore beaucoup de l'attentat de 2002 et les touristes sont vraiment peu nombreux. C'est même un peu triste le soir car la majorité des restaurants sont presque vides! Nous y avons testé le Parigata hotel pour notre 1ère nuit (chic à 300.000 avec piscine, petit déjeuner buffet, lit king size! etc...) et le Keke homestay sympa et simple à 75.000... Nous avons fait une journée d'excursion en voiture avec Putu qui parle français et est déjà référencé sur le site. Il est très facile de trouver un taxi sur place pour 250.000 maximum la journée de 8H: Kim Sarwata (Denpasar) tél mobile: 081 239 58613 Jerry (Ubud) c/o restaurant Satris Tél: 973279

Nous avons fait un petit tour du côté de Jimbaran qui est un petit village de pêcheurs à côté de l'aéroport avec un marché au poisson assez rustique et une plage encombrée de bateaux en plus ou moins bon état (a voir sans plus). Nous avons filé ensuite au sud ouest vers le spot de surf à côté du temple d'Uluwatu. Si vous n'avez jamais vu de surfeurs, allez-y car les vagues sont belles et le décor falaise original. Pour le temple, il ne nous a pas emerveillé mais il paraît qu'il est plus beau le soir au coucher du soleil... Malgré tout, cela vaut le déplacement ne serait-ce que pour la vue assez spectaculaire du haut des falaises.

Nous avons pris ensuite l'avion pour Maumere (île de Florès) avec la compagnie Merpati (500.000/pers) qui est une ville sans grand intérêt et sommes allés directement à Moni au pied du volcan Kelimutu (nous aimons les volcans!). Il faut compter 3H de route en voiture (35.000/pers) ou 3H30 à 4H en bus (15.000/pers).

A Moni, nous avons passé la nuit chez John qui est très sympa et propose des chambres rustiques, d'une propreté correcte et avec de l'eau! (25000Rp/nuit + petit déj. pour 2). Il fait aussi un repas végétarien copieux pour 15000/pers et s'occupe de vous réserver le bémo de 4H du matin pour l'excursion au volcan (15000Rp/pers)... mais les nuages sont parfois tenaces! La redescente matinale le long des rizières est très sympa et permet de rencontrer les autochtones (compter 2H sur route goudronnée).

De retour à Maumere, nous avons embarqué sur notre bateau de croisière devant l'hotel Sao Wisata situé au bord de la mer à 5Km à l'est de Maumere (Correct sans plus avec des chambres de 95000Rp à 150000Rp et un personnel très gentil et d'excellentes noodle soup!).

Nous sommes donc partis ensuite pour une croisière de plongée avec Komodoalordive (www.komodoalordive.com) qui est cher mais fiable. Les plongées du côté d'Alor et de Komodo sont très belles mais les amateurs de gros seront déçus! (Il est même conseillé d'emporter une loupe!).Certaines plongées du côté de Komodo sont délicates (courants très violents) et le sud est même très froid (22°c! au lieu des 27/28°c habituels au nord). Dans l'ensemble, les coraux durs et mous sont en très bon état et la variété de poissons est importante. Il y a aussi beaucoup de nudibranches superbes, et une quantité impressionante de toute petites crevettes, araignées, crabes etc... Quand à la visite des varans de Komodo, il faut y aller si c'est votre première visite (c'était notre cas) mais bon... les poissons sont plus beaux!

Nous sommes ensuite retournés à Bali qui nous a bien plu malgré l'aspect très mercantile d'Ubud et de ses boutiques... Nous avons aprécié la grâce des femmes Balinaises dans leur offrandes permanentes et avons pu assister à de belles cérémonies qui sont vraiment spectaculaires! (une crémation et la cérémonie de la pleine lune en particulier).

A Ubud les spectacles de danse sont superbes (on y est allé trois fois!) et nous avons testé les massages deux fois! (un peu douloureux... mais très bien aussi). Pour les danses, je vous recommande les troupes "Spirit of Bali" et "Sekaa Jegog Yowana Swara" ainsi que le Kesak and fire dance chaque vendredi soir au Pura Dalem. Pour les massages le" Body work shop" et le " Nur" en face. Côté nourriture, nous nous sommes régalés de cochon grillé (babi guling) à ne pas manquer! au Ibu Oka face au Ubud Palace (le midi seulement). Nous avons visité plusieurs temples dont celui du lac Bratan (joli cadre) mais notre préféré est le Batukaru (en pleine nature). Nous ne sommes pas allés au Besakhi ou l'acceuil est dit agressif dans les guides et cela nous a été confirmé par des français sur place! Nous rentriions tous les soirs à Ubud au Aslilodge qui est très confortable mais à l'écart de tout. Vu la densité de touristes, il y a un choix énorme du losmen bon marché aux resort grand luxe! a vous de jouer.

Nous sommes donc enchantés de notre voyage et le conseillons vivement bien que ceux ayant connu Bali dans les années 80 soient probablement déçus...

Que pensez-vous de cet itinéraire? Quelqu'un est-il déjà allé dans les parcs cités? Je recherche un parc où il y a des cascades, des animaux que l'on peut voir et éventuellement des grottes. Pour faire du rafting, où faut-il aller? La période pose t-elle problème?

Pour être sure de voir des animaux tels que le jaguar, je pense qu'il vaut mieux que j'aille dans un zoo, connaissez-vous un zoo au Guatemala ou dans la région de La Ceiba au Honduras ou des endroits où l'on soigne les animaux blessés?

J'hésite entre Utila et Roatan, laquelle est la mieux pour faire du snorkelling et de la plongée? Je sais que l'on peut aller nager avec les dauphins de Roatan, peut-on le faire d'Utila. Les requins-baleines sont-ils visisbles au mois de juillet?

Comment trouver des billets open-jaw pour arriver à un endroit (ici Flores au Guatemala) et repartir d'un autre (La Ceiba au Honduras). Cela vaut-il le coup ou vaut-il mieux que je prenne un billet paris-flores ou guatemala ciudad et que je fasse le trajet en bus du Honduras pour reprendre l'avion?

I’m heading to Guatemala for 18 days in August with my 11-year-old and I’m wondering if renting a car makes sense—not so much because of the road conditions, but because I’d like to spend about 3 days in Livingston. Since it’s only accessible by boat, I’d have to leave the car in Río Dulce. Maybe possible at a hotel, but that means paying for a rental for 3 days without using it... Same issue for Semuc Champey—it’s only reachable by 4x4, and I won’t be renting that type of vehicle.

Also, has anyone traveled from Panajachel (Lake Atitlán) to Cobán (to explore the caves and waterfalls in the area)? According to Google Maps, it’s a 6-hour, 44-minute drive... so whether by car or minibus, it’s *really* long (same for Cobán-Flores later). Are there any interesting stops along the way where I could spend a night? And if I’m not renting a car, is it possible to take two private shuttles for this route?

It’s a bit overwhelming—there are so many options and islands—so I was wondering what the forum members’ favorite spots have been.

We’ll be there for 5-6 days, and we’ll be making the crossing (Gorontalo -> Ampana or the other way around, not sure yet). I’m thinking it might be possible to stop in Bomba or Kadidiri and then Malenge?

We’re looking for simple places to stay—we’re not into luxury resorts. Small beach bungalows would be amazing. Also, one of my kids wants to get their diving certification, so if there’s an option with an accessible dive center, that’d be a plus (though not a must—priority is the scenery, proximity to magical spots, and an authentic vibe).

Hey everyone, I travel quite a bit, and I’m here to share my thoughts about an upcoming trip to Indonesia, specifically the Togian Islands.

I’m planning to go for 3 or 4 weeks in July-August and looking for a sunny destination that’s not too expensive (flights + cost of living), with varied points of interest. About fifteen years ago, I had planned a trip to the Togian Islands, but it didn’t happen, so I’m revisiting this destination (Sulawesi, Toraja country) + maybe others? Given that in Indonesia, I’ve already done volcanoes in Java, Bali, part of Lombok, and the Gili Islands. The issue is that I’ve read some posts about the plastic waste problems around the Togians, and it seems like they’re not the paradise islands they once were.

So, I have a few questions: I’d love to hear recent feedback from travelers who’ve been to the Togians to get an objective opinion (?) or if you’d recommend other paradise-like islands in Indonesia (not overcrowded).

If you confirm that it’s still an exceptional destination, what did you pair it with? The Moluccas and which islands in particular? Or Flores/Komodo? For my part, I don’t scuba dive—just snorkeling.

Finally, if you have other dream-island destinations (affordable and sunny), I’m all ears.

we’re traveling as a couple to Guatemala from Feb 8 to 22. We’ve realized that given the distances, it feels a bit short. So, we’ve decided to limit ourselves to:

- Antigua: 3 nights (from Feb 8 to 11), including the arrival day - Lake Atitlán: from Feb 11 to 14 – 3 nights in San Juan La Laguna, including the morning trip from Antigua to Lake Atitlán - Chichicastenango: from Feb 14 to 15 – 1 night to attend the Sunday market and visit the cemetery

We have 7 days left that we’re not sure how to organize to cover: Flores – Tikal – El Remate, then head back to Guatemala City for our flight on Feb 22. Actually, I have a few questions: Do you think the time in Antigua and at the lake is enough? We might do the Pacaya Volcano, which is accessible for beginners, and that’s it. Should we spend a bit more time at these two spots: Antigua and the lake? If so, we’d have to skip the Chichicastenango market. We’re also thinking of leaving Chichicastenango to head to Flores, then staying overnight in El Remate. Does that seem doable in one day? We’ve noted that the trips are long, and since we don’t want to rush, we’ve reduced the number of accommodations. Even though we know we won’t see everything, we don’t want to miss the must-sees. We’re also wondering if we’ve planned the route in the right direction, or if we should head straight to Tikal when we arrive. Anyway, I know this is long, but we’re a bit lost. Or spend the day in Chichicastenango / Night: Panajachel Day 5: A day by boat visiting villages around the lake and checking out local crafts (which villages to pick?), Night: Panajachel Day 6: Drive to Flores with 1 stop? Should we go to Semuc Champey? (how many hours?), Night: ?? Day 7: Drive to Flores (how many hours?), Night: Flores Day 8: Yaxha (1.5-hour drive each way with a driver), Night: Flores Day 9: Day trip to Tikal, Night: Flores Day 10:: Flight from Flores to Guatemala City, then departure at 4:30 PM

About hiking a volcano, I’ve read mixed reviews. Some say it’s easy, others say it’s tough. Is there a kid-friendly hike where we could see lava from a volcano? Is it only visible at night? Do we *have* to sleep at the top and come down the next day? I’ve heard of people doing it with 2-year-olds by carrying them, and others using horses—but I guess the horses don’t go all the way up? Seeing a real volcano would be amazing! I think it’d be a memorable experience for the kids. It’d be so cool to say, "We did that as a family!" But maybe it’s way too hard and a bad idea...

I’m struggling to find reliable info on travel times: - How long is the drive from Antigua to Chichicastenango, please? I’ve read shuttles leave at 7 AM and arrive at the market by 8:30 AM, but I’ve also seen people say it’s a 4-hour trip 😕. Are the times on Google Maps reliable?

A blog mentioned visiting Chichicastenango’s market in the morning and Iximché in the afternoon. That seems like a lot of driving, especially after leaving Antigua in the morning. What should we do in the afternoon instead?

Days 6 and 7: The trip from Panajachel to Flores. Any advice on taking an overnight bus? Should we go during the day with a stop at Semuc Champey? Or fly and spend the extra day somewhere else?

Day 8: Is a full day at Yaxha too much?

Hi there, I’m heading to Indonesia for a month this summer and will spend a few days on the island of Lombok.

I initially planned to spend 3 nights in Senaru to explore the surrounding area (village, waterfalls, etc.—but no volcano trek) for 2 days and then take a day trip by scooter to discover Sembalun (mainly the Bukit Selong viewpoint) before returning to sleep in Senaru. After that, I’d head to Kuta Lombok.

But I’m considering two other options: 1) Stop at the Bukit Selong viewpoint with the taxi that’ll take us from Senaru to Kuta (though I’m not sure if it’s a big detour). 2) Stay only 2 nights in Senaru, then spend one night in Sembalun before heading to Kuta.

What do you think? Should I stick with my original plan (visiting Sembalun as a day trip by scooter from Senaru) or go for one of the other two options?

Agencies apparently offer mini-cruises for 2-3 days... Type of trip: 2 adults, no kids. They like taking their time and don’t want to rush. I see there haven’t been any posts about mini-cruises around the Komodo Islands since 2020, and we’d love to do one with visits to Komodo Island—of course, including the famous dragon—and some snorkeling. We’re 66 years old and want to make sure we have good comfort on the boat, and most importantly, excellent safety regarding the vessel and crew. Since things in Indonesia change so quickly, could anyone recommend a reliable company in Labuan Bajo? Just to clarify, we already visited Flores last autumn and aren’t looking for an organized tour or anything else—just Komodo. Hello, I spent a month cycling in Thailand earlier this year with a touring bike equipped with two rear panniers. I loved being able to ride and stop at a hotel every night, and eat just about anywhere. I tried India two months ago but gave up because of the road conditions and chaotic traffic.

I’m looking for countries where I can cycle "without autonomy"—so no tent, no stove, just the bare minimum. Ideally, I’d like to stop at hotels or similar accommodations regularly, without having to cover 200 km a day!

I’d love to hear from your experiences—what countries make it easy to travel this way? Thanks!

J'envisage de partir cet été avec bébé qui aura presque 1 an à ce moment-la. Est-ce une destination bien indiqué pour un bébé ? Vu que c'est notre 1er voyage avec lui, nous qui d'habitude parcourons tout le pays, je pense qu'on va se restreindre bien plus et y aller "pepere". J'ai cru comprendre qu'i y avait de quoi faire sur l'ile principale Sao Miguel, est-ce suffisant pour avoir un bon aperçu sur 2 semaines, ou est-ce qu'il y a vraiment des incontournables a voir sur d'autres iles (qui valent la peine du déplacement/ changement de lieu de villegiature/ de location voiture tout ça )?

Nous aimons les randonnées (mais attention maintenant à l'altitude avec bébé), les plages, les balades diverses, les jolis paysages...
