Vendange fin septembre- début octobre? English translation pending
by Battayum · 2003-08-15 · 4 replies
Allo a tous! Ouais un forum sur le voyage!🙂

Voici ma situation: Je pars pour Paris le 21 septembre. J'y passe quelques jours avec de la famille. Le 26, je suis toute seule.. Billet d'avion ouvert 1 an.

Visiting Kenya Without Breaking the Bank
by Jacquesler · 2026-02-19 · 2 replies
Good evening, As two senior French couples who are used to traveling independently all over the world, we’d like to visit Kenya next November. Now, after seeing and reading a bit everywhere, and with the first quotes for a 6/7-day safari, I’m shocked by the prices (like $2,250) for places like Maasai Mara, where entry alone costs $200 per person per day, plus fees for the driver and vehicle. So if you have any recent great tips or contacts to share to help me out, I’d really appreciate it—because despite the costs, we’d still love to go, while keeping things reasonable. The most plausible solution is probably renting a vehicle with a driver-guide. Thanks in advance for all your replies. Jacques
Where to stay in Phu Quoc for a week?
by Kinoukinette · 2025-12-15 · 8 replies
Hi everyone! ☺️ In early February, we’ll be in Phu Quoc. We’re looking to stay in a hotel or resort near the beach—ideally beachfront—but most importantly, close to shops, little restaurants, and bars. Which area should we pick? The island seems so different from one spot to another... Thanks so much!
Situation in Ethiopia for solo travel
by Chryslys · 2025-10-24 · 6 replies
Hi, I’d like to travel to Ethiopia as a solo 60-year-old woman, backpacking style, between December 2025 and January 2026. I’m wondering about the current state of the country: unrest, safety concerns, etc. Government websites advise against going, saying it’s too dangerous. But I’m skeptical—they tend to be overly cautious. So I’m looking for reliable information, though I’m not sure where to find it. Thanks in advance!
Luggage transport between two cities
by Soccer · 2025-09-07 · 4 replies
Hi, I’m planning a bike trip in Italy starting from Pisa to Cinque Terre and I’m looking for a company to transport two suitcases. The suitcases are picked up in the morning at our hotel and dropped off at the next hotel along our route. I’m looking for something like *La Malle Postale* in France, which some people use on the Camino de Santiago. Thanks for your feedback!

Questions Koh Mook - Noppharat Thara - Koh Yao Noi
by Bruja47 · 2025-06-26 · 6 replies
Hello everyone,

A lot of articles and replies about southern Thailand are quite old...

I’m arriving at Trang Airport in mid-November. What’s the going rate for Pakmeng Pier and then for Koh Mook? Also, what’s the cheapest way to get from Koh Mook to Noppharat Thara (Ao Nang)? After that, I’ll be heading from Railay to Koh Yao Noi. Should I buy tickets from a local agency or at the pier?

Thanks also for your great tips! What are the must-see spots during 5 nights on Koh Mook, 3 around Ao Nang, and 3 on Koh Yao Noi? After that, I’m planning to visit Phuket City, Khao Lak, Surat Thani, Ao Khanom, maybe Koh Samui... and Bangkok for 4 nights. I’m retired and looking for places still off the beaten path, away from mass tourism... Thanks in advance, Jacques from Brussels
Urgent problem: no internet extension in the USA
by Ducono · 2025-05-10 · 8 replies
This is a nightmare! Auchan Telecom’s internet extension isn’t working… so no Google Maps! Big problem in the middle of nowhere yesterday, and we drove in circles for ages trying to find the hotel in Bakersfield. And today we’re heading to L.A. What’s a quick and cheap solution?
Insurance for a 6-month RV road trip
by Nougat31 · 2025-05-07 · 2 replies
Hi everyone,

We’d like some info on insurance for our RV—it’s a 2024 heavy vehicle, and we’re having trouble finding coverage for a 6-month trip through Canada, Alaska, and the USA. If anyone knows an insurance company that offers this kind of policy, please share the details with us.
Combining cruises refused: an incomprehensible disappointment with CFC
by Peyregoue · 2025-05-06 · 7 replies
I just got a mind-blowing response. I wanted to book 2 back-to-back cruises in the French West Indies on the Renaissance—arriving in Guadeloupe on December 23, 2025, and returning from Martinique (the end-of-cruise city) on January 13, 2026.

And guess what? It’s impossible because they’re pre-packaged deals. The only solution is to book just one cruise—not two in a row. It’s UNBELIEVABLE.

CFC, the French cruise company—well, no. It’s actually CAC, an English cruise company with "civil servants" wearing blinders.

I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve often combined two back-to-back cruises without any issues, but those were on "bare" ships. All they had to do was get me to Guadeloupe with the first cruise and have me depart with the second cruise’s start. It’s easy to book plane seats!

For the record, last year I did two back-to-back cruises in the Mediterranean, spending Christmas and New Year’s on the same ship.

Handing control over to the English wasn’t a good solution.

Oh well, I’ll find somewhere else with more open-minded people.
January trip plan - Cape Town area & Garden Route
by Blancond · 2025-04-08 · 6 replies
Hi there, We did a trip to South Africa in August 2023 and at the time, we regretted not being able to make the most of the Cape Town area because of the weather. So we’re thinking of going back during the right season in early 2026 for 2 weeks, but I’m struggling a bit to plan the itinerary. We’d like to spend a few days on safari, but options are somewhat limited in this (large) geographic area since it’s not the right season for KTP, and Addo Elephant Park doesn’t seem like the best choice. Are there any interesting private reserves in this area? Otherwise, we’re considering starting with a few days in Madikwe from Johannesburg, then about ten days from Cape Town. For those 10 days, do you have any suggestions that go beyond the classic Garden Route? We’ve heard good things about the Cederberg, but after that, I’m struggling to put together something coherent. Thanks for your suggestions! Jacques
Crossing Africa from Namibia to Mozambique
by Djackx67 · 2025-03-19 · 10 replies
Hi there, here’s the first draft of the itinerary I’m considering for Africa, leaving in late/mid-October 2025 for a duration of 5 months.

The idea is to cross Africa from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. Just to clarify, I don’t have a driver’s license, but I’m used to traveling by hitchhiking, carpooling, or any other type of transport. My must-sees, which I really want to visit, are the Namib and Kalahari deserts, the Okavango Delta, Victoria Falls, and the sandbanks of Vilankulos.

So if anyone has already done this route, more or less, I’d love to hear all your practical tips, especially for getting around within these areas.

Travel style: no problem with big contrasts—whether it’s sleeping in a tent/hammock or a fancy hotel. Budget: flexible (I think).

Venice’s Vogalonga
by Jacsyl56 · 2025-03-16 · 5 replies
Hi everyone, I’m not sure if you can help us out. We’ll be in Venice from June 8th to 17th. We arrive at the airport on the 8th and planned to take the Alilaguna waterbus to St. Mark’s Square to get to our Airbnb. We’ve estimated arriving at St. Mark’s Square between 11 AM and 12 PM. We didn’t realize we’d be arriving on the day of the race.

Because of the Vogalonga race taking place on June 8th, is the Grand Canal still navigable? If not, from what time will it be accessible again?

Thanks, Jacques
US visa for a work assignment as a foreign employee
by Tie92 · 2025-03-14 · 3 replies
Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well! I really need your help.

As part of my job here in France (I'm a foreign employee), I have to go to the US in about a month for a one-week assignment. I’ll need a visa, but I don’t know if there’s an express visa option for this? It’s stressing me out, and I don’t know where to start looking for info.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
Hikes between Ampefy and Antsirabe (Madagascar)
by Stadiste81 · 2025-02-23 · 6 replies
Hi there, Apart from the few short hikes I’ve ticked off around Ampefy (Lily Falls to the Third Falls, geysers), do you have any must-do recommendations for a day hike between Ampefy and Antsirabe or around Antsirabe itself? I’m looking for a big, full-day trek, even if there’s a lot of elevation gain. P.S.: I’ll have a private driver. Thanks in advance! !
Inter-island transfers in the Seychelles
by Muriel18 · 2024-11-28 · 4 replies
Hi there,

I’m heading to the Seychelles in March and I’d like to know how far in advance it’s best to book the boat transfers from Mahé to Praslin round-trip. Should I also book the transfers between Praslin and La Digue in advance, or can I just grab them on the day?
What road map for around Sapa (Vietnam)?

The question’s in the title—should I buy a map locally or bring a detailed one from France? If so, which one?

Thanks! 😉
Accommodation in Santo Antão and São Vicente
by Jacquesler · 2024-11-13 · 0 replies
Hi there, We’re heading to Cape Verde in January and will spend 6 nights on Santo Antão. There are two couples in our group, so we’re looking for two separate rooms. We plan to base ourselves either in Ribeira Grande - Pombas or Ponta do Sol for hiking. Could you share some good places to stay (so we can contact them directly) at reasonable prices? Same question for São Vicente, where we’ll be staying 4 nights in Mindelo. Best regards, Jacques
CFC Christmas and New Year's Cruise
by Peyregoue · 2024-10-19 · 14 replies
My wife and I are going on the "Christmas and Holiday Traditions" cruise from December 22 to January 5. This is our first time with CFC. We’ve done dozens of cruises over the past 35 years—including three world cruises with Costa—but we’re tired of the Italian attitude. We’ve also done 3 or 4 with MSC, Club Med 2, and a long time ago, the Mermoz with Croisières Paquet, in short… Given the reviews, we’re wondering about the all-French aspect, since the Filipino crews are nice but French is complicated for them. And the comments about the food aren’t exactly reassuring. Yes, the drink packages are way too expensive. We’ll have to wait and see how much the excursions cost… It’s an old ship, so let’s hope everything still works. See you soon!
VoyageForum is back!

Hello, how are you all? To be honest, this isn't really a "deep" topic—just a quick note to say I'm really happy VoyageForum is finally back up. I hope everyone who contributed to this site is still around, still traveling, and in good health. For my part, travel didn’t really stop despite the COVID crisis. Looking forward to sharing photos, travel stories, and discussions with all of you again. Jacques And I’ll share a photo right away—taken last year in the Vichada region of Colombia, where I’m heading back in 2 weeks.

Welcome back to VF!
Looking for speakers for "Itinérance", the Cornimont Travel Festival from May 8 to 11, 2025
by Lucbertrand · 2024-10-12 · 0 replies
Hi everyone, it’s with a little pang in my heart that I’m back here chatting after four long years away.

In May 2025, the village of Cornimont is organizing a travel festival called Itinérance. I’m sharing the two communication documents, knowing that we’re also looking for speakers. We already have quite a few lined up. We’re not just looking for technically polished films with stunning drone footage. We’re looking for people who want to share their passion, whether it’s a trip around their department or a journey around the world.

ITINERANCE PRESS RELEASE – October 2024

Itinérance, the travel festival, from your doorstep to the ends of the Earth First edition, May 8–11, 2025, Polyactivity Center in Cornimont (Vosges)

What could be a more beautiful journey than one that loops right from your doorstep, on foot or by bike, in the spirit of the ancient pilgrims of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle?

For this first edition, Itinérance aims to celebrate local travel, in France and nearby regions, while also making room for distant expeditions that require motorized transport.

Talks, photo exhibitions, personal stories, films... will highlight the harmony with nature, the joy of unexpected encounters along the trail or road, the lightness of minimalist logistics, and the discovery of landscapes in all their simplicity and authenticity.

Cornimont is an hour’s bike ride from Remiremont train station via the Voie Verte, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges, in the Hautes-Vosges area. A bus line also connects Remiremont train station to the center of Cornimont.
