Le centre international de convention de Putrajaya, la capitale administrative de la Malaisie, à une centaine de kilomètres de Kuala Lumpur, est plongé dans un crépuscule artificiel, jeudi matin. Le nuage jaunâtre est provoqué par les immenses feux de défrichement en Indonésie voisine, devenus incontrôlables.

Le gouvernement a déclaré l'état d'urgence sur l'ensemble de la vallée de Klang, où se situe la capitale, Kuala Lumpur. Ce plan prévoit notamment le déclenchement de pluies artificielles pour disperser les fumées irrespirables.

Depuis une semaine, la capitale malaisienne suffoque. Le sommet des immeubles a disparu. Les gens se sont rués sur les masques de papier dans les pharmacies qui, en rupture de stocks, limitent les ventes à quelques unités par personne. Les habitants ont d'ailleurs été invités à rester chez eux.

Le second aéroport de Kuala Lumpur, Subang, a été fermé après que la visibilité soit tombée à 300 m. Des plans d'urgence ont été mis en place au cas où l'aéroport principal devrait à son tour interrompre le trafic. Le nuage de fumée perturbe également la navigation dans le détroit de Malacca, qui sépare Sumatra de la péninsule malaisienne et par où transite un tiers du commerce mondial.

La Malaisie n'avait pas connu une telle situation depuis huit ans. En 1997 et 1998, des incendies similaires avaient obscurci le ciel d'une partie de l'Asie du Sud-Est pendant des mois, provoquant de nombreuse perturbations. Les pertes économiques avaient été estimées à 9, 3 milliards de dollars.

Je serai à Singapour en juillet pour raisons professionnelles.

J'aimerais enchaîner sur 10 jours de vacances en couple dans la région (maximum 2-3 heures d'avion). Envie de belles plages, pas trop de touristes (l'espoir fait vivre !), un bon hôtel... Bref un petit coin de paradis où se ressourcer, plongée et ballades à volonté.

Je ne connais que la thaïlande dans cette région, et je cherche un petit coin de bleu pour un grand dépaysement...

Voilà, nous hésitons pour notre Voyage de Noces entre Vietnam et Indonésie ? Comme nous ne pouvons partir que de juillet à septembre, nous penchons un peu plus pour l'Indonésie.

On a trouvé une randonnée de 28 jours organisée par NOuvelles Frontières qui fait Java, Bali, Célèbes pour 1800 € avec les billets d'avion, hébergement, guide etc...

D'abord, je voulais savoir ce que vous en pensez par rapport aux dégats causés par le Ras de Marée ? Je ne pense pas qu'on reste trop sur la plage, mais peut-être vaut il mieux attendre un peu par respect pour les habitants des iles ?

D'autre part, qu'est ce que vous pensez du prix de ce voyage ? Je n'ai pas trouvé quelque chose de moins cher...

Alors voilà, on a tous des noms de destination qui nous font rêver depuis longtemps. Pas forcément parceque c'est beau, exotique ou très loin. Non, juste comme ça, parceque ça nous excite, d'une manière totalement inexpliquée et irrationnelle.

Juste une petite question de curiosité. On entend toujours à travers le monde que les français mangent des choses "ragoutantes" comme les escargots ou les cuisses de grenouilles.

Mais vous, n'avez vous pas eu à manger, à l'occasion d'un voyage, quelque viande ou spécialité un peu "particulière" voire "ragoutante" au premier abord ?

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...

Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.

Let’s stick with the water theme—it’s definitely the season (maybe a bit *too* much for some of those dealing with floods 😕). After the flowing waters (with varying energy levels), let’s take it easy with still waters:

If you’ve got nice photos of a pond—or even a puddle—why not? Natural bodies of water only: no pools or fountains (reservoir lakes are accepted… because they often look like natural lakes ).

Water is present almost everywhere on our blue planet, so I’ve narrowed the theme down to waterways—rivers, streams, brooks, and the like.



Seas, oceans, lakes, or other stagnant waters won’t be considered for this month’s theme 😅. However, waterfalls and cascades are very welcome 😊!



Practical details:

**Participation** Each VF member can submit up to 3 photos, until Sunday, January 25th at 11:59 PM Paris time. Each photo must be posted in a separate message, with its number (1, 2, or 3). Don’t forget to add a little explanation (commentary, location, etc.).

**Voting** Each VF member can vote for the 3 photos they consider the best, based on their own criteria and the theme.

Hi everyone, First post in years on the forum—I’m so happy it’s back up and running!

I’ve been wrestling with this question for weeks now: Flores or Sulawesi?

I’m leaving in July for 24 days, followed by 2 weeks around Makassar/Wakatobi for work. For the first part, I’m traveling with my family (my partner + 3 kids aged 6 to 14).

I’ve had a long-time dream of Komodo, but I’m worried it’s become super touristy... though the crossing to Maumere still sounds amazing. I’m also not thrilled about all the internal flights.

On the other hand, since I’ll be in Sulawesi anyway, I’m thinking a crossing from Gorontalo to Luwuk via the Togians (maybe even a few days in Banggai) + a detour to Toraja (which I visited 10 years ago) could be an incredible trip too.

For my family, this is their first trip to Indonesia, so I’d love it to feel *mythic* ;).

Any advice is welcome—I’m really struggling to decide! I know it’s a choice between two great options...

Hey there, community! Back this weekend, below is my travel journal from my adventure in Indonesia. Enjoy the read!!!

Day 1 - August 10, 2025 New life downloading for three weeks! And for that, Flo and I launched a public tender... A public tender? What’s that got to do with a travel journal???... Well, when you think about it, few destinations tick all the boxes for an August adventure: Meaning, finding a place that’s exotic in the middle of August, not too expensive, not too packed with tourists, warm but not *too* warm, with postcard-perfect landscapes, dreamy beaches, tasty cuisine with a hint of exoticism, friendly and welcoming locals, where you’re free to sleep under the stars among the mosquitos, take transport surrounded by chickens, and even eat from a pig trough if you feel like it—well, turns out it’s not that easy to find! I’d even say, given how thick the list of requirements is, there’s a big risk the tender could be declared unsuccessful for failing to meet just one criterion. Let’s just say the candidates better submit a rock-solid proposal!

After reviewing all the responses and presentations from the candidates, the obvious choice for us is... Indonesia! Except that trying to explore a country as vast as Indonesia and its 17,504 islands in less than five years is a bit like reading the summary of a Proust novel without taking the time to savor each of its 950 pages! Don’t worry, I won’t name them all here. Besides, do they even all have names? No! Only 7,870 have been named—their parents clearly ran out of ideas for the rest. Anyway, our society, which worships the "work more to earn more" mantra, unfortunately limits our adventure time. So we’ll only get to see a small part of Indonesia, and we’ll have to make a tough choice to head for the best of the best in this archipelago of over seventeen thousand islands. Each one has its own selling points: Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, the Celebes, Bali, Borneo, Papua, Timor, the Moluccas... So many names that smell of adventure... Another tender, another list of requirements, another review of proposals... Drumroll... Splash splash... And the lucky winner is... Ta-da... Java, Bali’s big sister, where I’ve already been eight years ago... Java the programming language. The Java of Broadway. We’re gonna *do* the Java. Java the coffee. And yes, Java is also an island!

This island, four times smaller than France, is home to 136 million people, making it the most populated island in the world! Fun fact: Indonesia, with its 260 million inhabitants, is just shy of the podium for the world’s most populated countries, after the winning trio of India, China, and the United States. And it’s on this island of Java that you’ll find Jakarta, the (soon-to-be-former) capital and main airport of the country, where we’ll soon land after our nineteen-hour flight! Yep, nineteen hours! I mean, Indonesia in general—and Java in particular—is a *tad* farther than going on vacation to Grandma Yoyo’s! Not sure where it is? Easy. Grab a map. Plant your finger on the big island at the bottom right—aka Australia for those who struggle with geography—move it up two centimeters, and bam, welcome to Indonesia!



Nice transition, right? Because "Welcome to Indonesia" is exactly what the friendly flight attendant just said to me as we got off the plane! That’s it, our chakras are open, we’ve arrived at our (air)port. Time for rest, pool, cocktails, and a beach with our toes spread out... Wait, if you bought that, you clearly don’t know us yet! Since we still have energy to burn and need to adjust to the flight and time difference, we tackle the long administrative formalities to enter Indonesia, just to earn the right to hop in a 45-minute Grab taxi to the train station. The train station? What train station?... What do you usually do at a train station? Take a train, of course! Off we go for a three-hour train ride to Bandung, where we’ll officially start our adventure tomorrow after our first Indonesian night...

Unfortunately, we were a bit slow off the mark, which meant we missed the 6:25 PM train by two minutes. Oh well, we’ll have to wait until 11 PM. We take the opportunity to stretch our legs in Jakarta, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy the delicious smells wafting from the *warungs*—those little typical street restaurants. A quick stop at the National Monument, a detour to a night market to devour our first *kwetiaw goreng* and *teh manis* for 60,000 rupiahs (that’s 3 € for two), and just like that, our penalty is lifted, and we’re allowed to hit the road again. Off to Bandung, where we arrive at 2 AM for... a *very* short night...

So, this theme isn’t exactly a "travel invitation," but coming up with a new one is quite a puzzle 😅. During February’s “white” theme discussion, we had pages of cats, so you should be inspired 😸. I won’t be restrictive—wild felines, domestic cats, and even those in zoos (though I’m not a fan) will be accepted. Plus, engravings, paintings, statues, or any other representations of felines fit the theme. The Sphinx is also welcome ;).

My partner and I are heading to Malaysia in early July. We arrive in KL on 03/07 in the late afternoon and leave from KL on 18/07 in the evening.

We’ve planned: Day 1: KL Day 2: Cameron Highlands day trip from KL Day 3: KL → Taman Negara (bus) Day 4 & 5: Trek in Taman Negara Day 6: Taman Negara → Perhentians (bus + boat) Day 7 & 8: Perhentians Day 9: Perhentians → Pulau Redang (boat + bus + boat) Day 10 & 11: Pulau Redang Day 12: Pulau Redang → George Town (flight) Day 13: George Town Day 14: George Town → KL (flight) Day 15: KL + return flight at 23:45

I feel like this might not be the most efficient route. Any tips on how to optimize the order of things (even though I’d prefer to start with Taman Negara)? How’s the best way to travel between places?

Should we book everything (transport, accommodation, activities) in advance, or can we figure it out day by day? I prefer spontaneous travel to keep things flexible, but will there be availability, or will we be struggling constantly?

Since no travel journal has been posted about this destination since 2020, I’m giving it a go—maybe it’ll jog some memories for a few of you or give others a few ideas... even if, in the end, there isn’t much to tell 😎! Even though the itinerary was as classic as can be, it still led to a few brain knots: in what order? How many nights on each island? Rent a car or not? In short, plenty of existential questions to land on 4 nights per island, finishing with Mahé to avoid any nasty surprises before the return flight.

Saturday 03/22: Flight to Mahé with Qatar Airways (no—or rather, no more—direct flights from Paris 😕) A nice surprise at CDG with the discovery of a new lounge in Terminal 1

Then, an in-depth exploration of Doha Airport thanks to (or because of) a loooong layover:



And finally, arrival at the tiny Mahé airport where we step onto the tarmac feeling like we’ve walked into a steam room

Baggage claim is quick, the shuttle to the port is on time, the ferry is punctual (we, on the other hand, are *very* early for it ), and there’s Praslin in sight:



... with a sneak peek of the sea’s colors 🙂 Quick note on the photos: most were taken with a smartphone, and the colors are a bit more saturated than in real life (I did bring my hybrid camera, but in the end, I barely used it since it wasn’t very practical to lug around on the water or for snorkeling).

We pick up the car (a Grand i10 instead of a Picanto) from a muddy parking lot (it just rained) and off we go—of course, with a windshield wiper instead of the turn signal 😎, left-hand driving obliges. In just a few minutes, we arrive at our accommodation for these 4 nights on Praslin (Oh, and now the "lien" tab isn’t working! ) We’re blown away by the view from the terrace:

We’re a couple in our fifties who’ve been traveling independently for ages—mostly in Asia, a bit in Africa, very little in the Americas, and never ever in West Asia until November 2023, when we discovered the Sultanate of Oman.



If we waited so long to explore this part of the world, it’s because a few questions were nagging at us, like: Can two Landais party lovers like us survive 15 days without apéro 😄? Or, more seriously: Can a feminist like me enjoy traveling in such a conservative country?

That is the question (and I feel your pain with this unbearable suspense 😅).

A turbulent period came to an end around 2022.

Many of us have returned to big trips after making only very small ones—or none at all. For a little anecdote, my dentist told me that due to the lack of travel, a lot of clients treated themselves to implants they would’ve otherwise skipped. The joy of traveling again probably gave some vacationers smiles they hadn’t dared to show before!

Here, you can share what’s on your mind: Have these new, real trips disappointed you, rejuvenated you, or just relieved a long frustration?

For my part, not being so young anymore, there was definitely relief but no explosion of joy. I just had the feeling of picking up the thread of life after a foggy pause, with the bitter taste that 2 or 3 years of my life had been partly stolen from me.

Bonjour à tous, après de nombreuses recherches au sujet du "camping sauvage sur ile inhabité en Asie", je me retrouve a poser ma question sur ce forum car très peu d'informations ou même de retours d’expériences sont disponible sur internet.

J'ai pour projet de partir 3 semaines avec un groupe d'ami sur une Île inhabité au mois de SEPTEMBRE 2020. Idéalement vis à vis de la saison, l’Indonésie, la Malaisie, les philippines paraissent être les endroits idéaux (saison & nombre d'île confondu).

Si je devais résumer vulgairement notre projet, il s’agirait de nous faire déposer en bateau sur une île inhabité avec nos ressources (eau, nourriture, tente & équipement indispensable a la survie) pour 3 semaines d'aventure, puis a la fin de cette période, le bateau reviendrait nous chercher pour nous ramener à la civilisation. C'est un rêves d'enfance que nous souhaitons réaliser ensemble en étant totalement conscient de la difficulté de ce projet un peu fou. Nous ne sommes pas débutant dans le domaine & la galère est notre recherche commune hihi.

Nos questions sont les suivantes : Est-il possible de faire du camping sauvage sur ces îles inhabités ? La population/gouvernement est-elle/il contre ce type de voyageur ? Quels sont les législations ? ...

Bien évidement si vous avez des retours d’expérience dans d'autres pays ou autres, si vous connaissez des personnes qui pourraient potentiellement nous renseigner ou même des liens que j'aurais loupé a ce sujet, merci de me les renseigner. Ca serait une aide précieuse dans l'organisation de notre périple.

Bonjour, j ai mon avion demain matin direction Singapour depuis Bali. Ensuite j ai un vol direction Berlin mais avec une autre compagnie, donc 2 enregistrements. Je souhaite ramener des cigarettes pour des amis. Est-il possible de ramener plusieurs paquets de cigarettes a l'aeroport de Singapour, sachant que je ne quitterais pas l'aéroport donc je ne pense pas passer par l'immigration.

Bonjour à tous, Les billets d'avion pour la Malaisie sont réservés pour l'été prochain. Départ en famille (nos fils auront 11 et 12 ans) pendant 4,5 semaines à partir du 24 juin. Nous sommes allés en Indonésie cet été (la rédaction de la suite du carnet est en cours 😎) et nous avions adoré la visite de ce pays. Avec le recul, même si nous ne regrettons rien de notre programme, quelques jours supplémentaires de détente auraient été appréciés. Par conséquent, j'envisage de commencer notre voyage par quelques jours dans les îles (histoire de se poser après une année de collège pour nos fils et de travail pour nous - option snorkeling indispensable !) et également à la fin de nos vacances (cette année, nous avons fini nos vacances par un trek dans la jungle à Sumatra ; alors souvenir extraordinaire avec des images plein les yeux, mais "un peu" fatiguant tout de même 😉). Mon mari, consulté de temps à autre pour l'organisation 😛, souhaiterait même ajouter une étape îles/snorkeling au milieu de nos vacances !

Longue introduction pour vous soumettre mes premières réflexions et solliciter vos avis : - je pense que nous irons aux Perenthian et aux Tioman, ça nous aidera à nous faire un avis sans refaire deux fois le même endroit 🙂 - je serais bien allée à Kapas mais je lis des avis très divergents sur la durée à y prévoir (je pense consacrer trois jours à chaque séjour insulaire - je réfléchis à aller à Pulau Weh au nord de Sumatra (vol de 3 heures jusqu'à Banda Aceh depuis Kuala Lumpur + ferry). Nous y serions volontiers allés l'été dernier mais nous n'avions pas suffisamment de temps - j'exclus Langkawi en raison de la mousson prévisible à cette période-là de l'année

Des avis sur les îles ? Un classement en terme de fonds marins ? Nous sommes allés à Komodo l'été dernier, autant dire que la barre est haute 😉

Petite précision : nous visiterons uniquement la péninsule, réservant la découverte de Borneo à une autre fois
