Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible in 2025 to take a taxi to Marsa Alam from Hurghada Airport at 7 PM as a foreigner. Are there any issues passing through the checkpoints in Kuit on this route? Thanks for your replies—I’ve been getting conflicting answers on other sites.

Trek between M'Goun and Toubkal in late March

Hi there! Planning a trek for late March starting from the Ait Bouguemez valley up to Mount Toubkal. 300 km between M'Goun and Toubkal. Expect 2 weeks of semi-self-sufficiency, with gîtes and resupply points along the way. I’m going solo, so if anyone’s up for joining me, you’re more than welcome! From the most sophisticated suitcase to the bundle on your shoulder, from gear strapped to a motorcycle to bags on top of buses, what matters is capturing travel with luggage. Whether it's a stroll, an expedition, a simple outing, or a tour—anything goes, as long as the luggage is highlighted, of course 🙂 ........... Here’s my copy-paste:

Every VF member can submit up to 3 photos, until Tuesday, March 25 at 11:59 PM Paris time.

Each photo should be posted in a separate message, with its number (1, 2, or 3).

Don’t forget to add a little explanation (commentary, location, etc.).

Voting:

Every VF member can vote for the 3 photos they think are the best, based on their own criteria and the theme.

Voting will take place from Wednesday, March 26 to Sunday, March 30 at 11:59 PM Paris time.

Photos will be ranked in order of preference: - 1st photo: 3 points - 2nd: 2 points - 3rd: 1 point

The winner is the person whose photo receives the most points.

I’ll be away during the last days of March and won’t be very available, so the results will be announced on April 1st (no, it’s not a joke). And please, while I’m gone, be as well-behaved and disciplined as you always are 🙂

In case of a tie, the number of first-place votes will decide. The winner will have the honor of organizing April’s contest.

2 weeks in mojito country - March 2024 (Cuba)

Hey everyone,

A lot has happened in 4 years when it comes to travel. It wasn’t a little virus that would stop us from traveling, even if we sometimes had to adjust our destinations. So, I’m going to try to get back into posting travel journals, starting with destinations where there aren’t many recent stories.

Our itinerary, traveled in a 1954 classic American car with our driver Yoan, who spoke excellent French. I’ll add links to the posts as I write them.

Before diving into the story, here are a few photos of what stood out to us beyond the usual sights of this country:

🙂 The birds, in large numbers—hummingbirds, pink flamingos, pelicans, and especially the tocororo, Cuba’s endemic bird, considered the national bird because the colors of its plumage match the Cuban flag.

🙂 Matanzas, a city that doesn’t get much attention, sandwiched between Varadero and Havana. It doesn’t have the architectural splendor of Trinidad or Cienfuegos, some streets are really dirty, but it has a dynamic, lively vibe that really touched us.

🙂 The ever-present blue, in the architecture, the cars, and the natural surroundings.

...and what we called the "Cuban style": rum and cigars in the company of Che 😎

There’s still so much more to remember about this captivating and vibrant country, despite the economic crisis hitting Cubans hard... to be continued in the story.
