History of Safi
What to See and Do in Safi
The City
Though the area has become industrial, the city’s history has left a few traces. The medina, near the port, was fortified by the Portuguese, and you can explore a 16th-century sea fortress, the Sea Castle, as well as the Portuguese cathedral in the Gothic style. Also worth seeing are several fortresses and buildings from the era of the sultans. Safi is also home to the National Ceramics Museum.
