Borders

Turkey has over 2,500 km of borders with eight countries: Armenia (268 km), Azerbaijan (9 km via the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan), Bulgaria (223 km), Georgia (United States) (252 km), Greece (192 km), Iraq (331 km), Iran (499 km), and Syria (822 km).

Closed Borders

Borders with Armenia, Iraq, and Syria are closed or strongly discouraged.

From France

Whether by train, bus, or your own vehicle, reaching Turkey by road takes time and is generally much more expensive than flying, even for groups.

Car

Istanbul is roughly 2,700 km from Paris. Unless you have time and plan to explore the region with your own vehicle, this isn’t the best option for a typical trip.

Bus

Train

Turkey is well connected to its European neighbors by rail. However, from France, the journey takes about two days and remains expensive (more so than the bus), except possibly with an InterRail pass (and even then). In short, it may not be the ideal way to get there.
