Après avoir longtemps consulté ce forum en mode ninja pour planifier mes voyages, je finis par m'inscrire pour avoir des conseils sur la Thailande !
J'ai fait un peu le tour sur le net histoire de sortir un premier jet, mais des interrogations persistent et j'aimerais donc avoir un avis extérieur ! :)
L'idée serait de découper le séjour de 17/18 jours en deux. Le nord, les visites, particularités, et le sud, ses plages, détente et fête. On partirait au mois de novembre !
Voilà où j'arrive :
J1 : Arrivée tôt à Bangkok, matin direction hôtel et balade tranquille l'après midi
J2 : Visite de Bangkok le matin puis départ pour Sukhothai
J3 : Sukhotai puis départ vers Chiang Mai de nuit
J4 : Chiang Mai
J5 : Trekking
J6 : Trekking puis départ vers Chiang Rai en voiture
J7 : Chiang Rai puis retour à Chiang Mai où on prend un vol vers Phuket
J8 : Phuket
J9 : Phuket
J10 : Phuket
J11 : Ko Phi Phi
J12 : Ko Phi Phi
J13 : Ko Lanta
J14 : Ko Lanta
J15 : Retour à Phuket
J16 : Vol vers Bangkok le matin puis balade le reste de la journée
J17 : Retour en France
J'ai donc plusieurs questions :
1) Est-ce que Chiang Rai vaut un tel détour ? (3h de route aller, idem retour, 1 journée bouffée) Le temple blanc a l'air sympa mais après ? Est-ce que ce n'est pas du temps à consacrer ailleurs ?
2) J'aimerais caler une full moon là dedans... J'ai vu qu'elles étaient vers Ko Samui mais qu'il y avait des trucs similaires à Ko Phi Phi ? Est-ce la même ampleur ? L'investissement et la perte du temps de trajet vers Ko Samui valent l'écart sur cet événement entre les deux îles ?
3) Est-ce que passer 2 jours sur Ko Phi Phi et Ko Lanta est un bon choix ? (pas assez ? trop ?)
4) Est-ce qu'il y a des bons spots sur Phuket pour du snorkelling ? Ou est-ce qu'il y en a des meilleurs dans les autres îles ?
5) Je n'ai pas mis les îles Similan par peur de me disperser dans toutes les îles, et y perdre du temps pour voir des paysages et ambiance assez semblables. Qu'en pensez vous ?

Tout commentaire en dehors de ces questions est évidemment le bienvenu, le tout est d'arriver à faire le meilleur itinéraire possible ensemble ! :)
Vous hésitez un peu trop un peu partout : c'est VOTRE VOYAGE !
Si vous êtes très plage/plongée , pourquoi pas 8 jours consacrés à cela ?
Maintenant , à propos du trek au nord , n'oubliez pas que vous tombez en saison pluvieuse donc , même si vous avez la chance de ne pas prendre le genre de pluies qui tombent à seaux , dites-vous que vous marcherez dans des sentiers détrempés : tenez-en compte .
Chiang Raï : si votre trek s'y terminait , pourquoi pas mais comme il semble que non , SACRIFIEZ cela au profit d'un jour de plus à Bangkok ( quand même ! ) et au moins une demi-journée à +- 80 km à Ayuttaya qui vaut largement Sukhotaï .
Je n'hésite pas sur le gros du contenu, je demande simplement conseil sur vos expériences/connaissances du pays, c'est le meilleur moyen de savoir si on passe le bon temps aux bons endroits. ;)
Je ne suis pas "très plage" plus que "très ville" ou "très nature", je cherche justement une vision d'ensemble et une variété pour ne pas m'ennuyer dans mes voyages, d'où cet itinéraire qui me semble plutôt complet mais qui mérite un avis avisé extérieur pour être optimisé au mieux !
Ok pour Chiang Rai ! Je vais essayer de trouver des treks qui ne font pas une boucle de Chiang Mai à Chiang Mai, c'est vrai que je n'y avais pas pensé mais ça peut faire gagner un trajet. J'avais noté Ayuttaya en effet mais je me demandais si faire les deux avec Sukhothai était judicieux. Les deux sont assez différents pour que chacun soit visité ? A n'en faire qu'un seul, lequel ? Car faire sauter Sukhothai permettrait de prendre un vol direct Bangkok Chiang Mai qui ferait gagner pas mal de temps de trajet.
Hmm ? Novembre n'est la saison pluvieuse à Chiang Mai si ? Ce n'est pas ce que j'ai trouvé sur internet en tout cas, j'y ai vu une saison "très favorable" avec "4 jours de pluie" !
Comparer Sukhotaï et Ayuttaya , c'est comme comparer Azay le Rideau et Chambord : difficile de départager . Donc , si votre idée c'est de ne voir qu'un seul site et si ne pas visiter Sukhotaï vous permet de gagner du temps , alors ne visitez qu'Ayuttaya ( mais si j'étais vous , un jour de moins à la plage et un de plus pour bien visiter Bangkok : de belles plages tropicales avec des spots , il y en a des centaines dans le monde ; Bangkok est unique ) .
Je répète pour le climat : ne regardez pas les sites qui vous donnent des moyennes ! consultez celui qui vous donne les pluies pour l'automne 2014 et l'automne 2013 . En une génération , la mousson s'est décalée et est plus irrégulière .
déjà : niveau météo nous y sommes 3 fois par an depuis 20 ans et je rejoints tout à fait l'avis du membre qui en parle.. et ça a bien changé le climat... novembre peut être encore humide région nord...aussi comme dans les iles. Le climat est plus stable depuis 4 ans vers janvier... souvent nous avons une fin d'année assez mitigée....nous y sommes tous les ans à cette période...
il faut arrêter de croire aux sites météo mais faut surtout regarder le dérèglement climatique causé par l'homme la pollution et la déforestation à gogo amazonie et indonésie les poumons de la terre qui font que plus ça va plus le climat est catastrophique et IMPREVISIBLE).. donc si on vous dit attention c'est que nous avons des repères par rapport aux généralités écrites il y a des lustres et que les bouquins/sites web etc ont repris.. sans voir l'évolution des choses au fil des années 😉 donc si vous voulez rester sur votre optique c'est votre problème... si vous avez la chance de bien profiter tant mieux.....
pour votre parcours : koh phi phi aucun intérêt d'y dormir à voir lors d'une excursion une journée... ..
koh lanta 2 jours trop court....dommage au moins 4 jours... (donc les 2 jours sont trouvés ceux que vous pourriez éviter à phi phi...😉, il ya de quoi voir (koh roc et l'excursion des 4 iles).. et des balades sympa dans l'ile...et faut un peu vous posez (lieu sympa pour séjourner ...klong nin beach...
sinon à la place de phuket faire krabi... et de là vous pourrez voir koh phi phi, hong island, poda island, raylay beach etc....
phuket c'est devenu trop européen, béton béton béton (à quelques exception nai yang ou bang tao beach plus acceptable... car le reste ça ne ressemble plus à rien.... si vous n'avez pas pris vos billets d'avion faites plutôt chiang mai - krabi et de Krabi (2h30 de route pour koh lanta avec passage bacs )... puis après koh lanta prendre un vol de krabi pour Bangkok...en faisant bien gaffe à l'heure....(le passage bac peut être long...) ou alors ferry ...
donc une autre idée :

En effet, pour la météo, je ne remets pas en doute vos dires mais je me fiais simplement à ce qu'on peut lire sur internet. C'est justement tout l'intérêt de ce topic, avoir des avis extérieurs !
@Dupont : Concernant Bangkok, j'ai eu de très mauvais retours de mon entourage à propos de la ville donc je pars peut être avec un à priori négatif. Je vais essayer de trouver le meilleur compromis, peut être en rajoutant un jour au tout !

@Azerty : Phuket était principalement là (au delà de son aspect plage paradisiaque) pour le côté festif que cela peut procurer. Nous avons 25 ans et souhaitons également faire la fête durant le périple. Est-ce que des spots identiques existent pour ça du côté de Krabi ou Koh Lanta que vous proposez en remplacement ? Quid de la full moon party ?

C'est vrai que la plupart des gens y vont de leur expérience, ou de leur ressenti qui ne sont pas forcément ceux de tout le monde. A plus forte raison quand on a 25 ans on n'a pas les mêmes envies ou façon de voir ses vacances qu'a 50 ans, et c'est bien légitime..
Il faut bien avouer que ce n'est pas á Koh Lanta ou Koh Yao ou même Krabi que vous pourrez faire la fête comme vous pourriez la faire á Phuket Samui ou Bangkok... Et cela n'enlève rien aux 3 endroits précités qui sont des endroits formidables.. Après c'est vrai qu'il faut faire un choix...
Après, faire la fête constitue une composante du séjour, nous n'y allons pas exclusivement pour ça évidemment (je pense qu'on s'en rend compte à l'itinéraire !) mais nous souhaiterions nous rendre compte de l'ambiance festive sur place. :)
La question qui en ressort du coup, c'est est-ce que Phuket n'est bien que pour ça, ou est-ce qu'il y a tout de même des belles plages, des activités sympas (jet ski, snorkelling...) à y faire la journée ?
Si oui, le mieux serait peut être d'allier Phuket à un endroit plus calme (type Koh Lanta / Krabi) pour avoir une vision d'ensemble ?
Novembre (du 11 au 28, pour ce que j'envisageais) est donc vraiment à déconseiller par contre ou on peut espérer du beau temps ?
J'ai peur de ne pas être objectif car je suis un inconditionnel de Phuket.. Pas forcement pour la fête que l'on peut y faire car j'ai un peu passé l'âge, quoique... de temps en temps..😛
Pour ce qui est des belles plages, Phuket est plutôt bien loti de ce coté là, á condition de sortir des 5 ou 6 spots les plus connus et fréquentés de l'ile.. Je dirais que seulement 50% de la côte est connue par les visiteurs.. IL existe des superbes plages ou criques qui valent le détour et qui gagnent á être connues.
Ok, c'est bon à savoir dans ce cas qu'il y aura des choses à faire la journée !

Pour la météo à partir de mi-novembre (je vois que tu habites carrément là bas), tu serais donc du même avis que les deux autres forumeurs ? :(
Je n'ai que 5 ans de recul, et autant de mois de novembre passés á Phuket, je me garderais donc de faire une généralité et de te donner quelque prévision que ce soit sur le temps qu'il fera ce mois de novembre 2015... Disons que je serai plus optimiste, mais ca c'est ma nature.. En fait je n'ai jamais vu un mois de novembre sans au mois 20 jours de plein soleil.... Le tout étant de ne pas tomber sur les 10 jours restants.... 🤪

ouh là c'est plus si paradisiaque les plages de phuket....en particulier patong, kata, karon.....trop trop fréquentées loin du dépaysement dans ce coin..
à la rigueur bang tao ou d'autre vers l'aéroport...
quelques petites iles éventuellement (freedom - koh raya) mais bon vous vous retrouvez avec une bonne centaine de personnes
full moon bof bof... pour voir de la viande saoule débauchée, droguée, ... des bagarres des viols etc c'est pas une expérience incontournable.. mais bon chacun voit midi à sa porte...
Etant donné que vous êtes jeunes je vois que vous voulez la fête... donc gardez votre plan.. mais bon ça ne sera pas du tout dépaysant....dommage...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
