Hello, with the sad news from the Caillou and the Loyalty Islands following the events from a few months ago, who still wants to travel to Grande Terre? Best regards,
Hi there,
The situation in New Caledonia has pretty much returned to normal. The only hotspot left is the crossing through the Saint Louis tribe, which is done under police escort. So, it's best to avoid the southern part of Mont-Dore and Yaté. For the rest, I head up north almost every week and there’s no problem at all. 95% of the territory is now completely safe. Cruise ships and other tourists are starting to come back. The only place that still feels a bit off is the entrance to Nouméa—some areas look like a battlefield. You can still see the remains of buildings and businesses that were destroyed or burned in May. So, if you're thinking of visiting New Caledonia, don’t hesitate—come on over! 🙂
