Air Mauritius ghost flight

Hi,

I received an email from the airline saying my return flight was canceled and rescheduled to another flight.

Nothing about the connection in France...

I checked my passenger file, everything is the same as when I first booked.

I asked for an explanation by email.

They replied that my original flight was canceled and that I should sort it out with Air France since I bought the ticket through their site.

I called Air France. Finally got through to someone. The agent checked my file and told me there were no changes and therefore couldn’t reschedule my flight.

I checked my file again: the flight is the same as on the day I bought it.

They suggested I change it by paying!!!

I forwarded Air Mauritius’s emails to Air France. Waiting to see what happens next...

Have you ever had this kind of problem? What’s going on with Air Mauritius? Have they become a third-rate airline that’s absolutely not recommendable?

Thanks for your thoughts and any attempts at explaining this...

(The Air Mauritius flight is no longer for sale on Google Flights. The replacement flight isn’t either... Yet it still appears on the Air Mauritius site as the replacement flight.)

hi there, when you paid for the ticket—so I assume online—did you read the terms and conditions? Is it an economy ticket?
TA Tatra Globetrotter ·
Hi...

The ticket was issued by Air France, and you bought it on the Air France website? You don’t care about Air Mauritius—you don’t even know them. Don’t read their emails. It’s actually weird that they’re writing to you.

Hi there,

The circumstances don’t really match a cancellation made by the airline.

The issue is that Air Mauritius claims they canceled by email but didn’t update the booking...

On top of that, they’re within the timeframe where they don’t have to pay the 600 €, so it’s baffling.

I should normally see the new flight when I check my reservation number...

Hi there,

Luckily, I did book through Air France.

It’ll be easier if there’s an issue on the ground.

But it’s still Air Mauritius operating the initial return flight...

Bought through Air France, but in the end, it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that it’s an AF ticket from start to finish. By the way, are you sure about that?

Hi there,

If it was AF that issued the ticket, it’s up to AF to sort out the problem. Air Mauritius has nothing to do with it, even if they canceled their flight. It’s likely an info issue between AF and AM—the info isn’t in AF’s system, so it’s normal they’re refusing to offer a free solution. You’ll need to call AF again to find a solution, but only if AF actually has the official cancellation info from AM. 😛
Cordialement, Patrick.

Hi,

I sent them the emails from Air Mauritius.

That’s what they asked me for to change the flights.

Either way, they’ll have to do something sooner or later.

Doing it now would cost them less than later—that is, within the 14-day window...

Officially, my return flight still exists. If it officially still exists at D-14...

Okay, just gotta wait now. Since AF has the info, it's up to them to find a solution. If there's no solution, you'll be refunded. When's your flight?
Cordialement, Patrick.

My return flight is in about a month. There are options with AF.

What bothers me is that Air Mauritius is stranding its passengers.

They should have updated the file and offered an end-to-end alternative solution or cancellation with a refund.

Now, they couldn’t care less about their customers. It’s even worse than how a low-cost airline handles things—at least with them, it’s clear when a flight is canceled...

I don’t trust them anymore.

For Air France, it’ll depend on how quickly they respond to my message.

I think Air France should end their partnership with Air Mauritius. It’s going to end up costing them reputation-wise and financially if flights are booked through them—which must happen often since Air France has better departure schedules and Mauritius better return ones when the flight actually exists...

Anyway, Air Mauritius—never again.

Yes, AM should have updated your file so AF could act accordingly. AF is usually pretty responsive—I’ve dealt with their customer service before, and they’re efficient. But for that to happen, the info needs to be up to date in the system. You’ll get a solution within the week; otherwise, you’ll need to call them back. Just gotta be patient now.
Cordialement, Patrick.

The conditions have little to do with a cancellation made by the airline.

Yeah, you should always read the terms and conditions. And you still haven’t answered my question—I assume you booked online? When you book a flight online and there’s a codeshare from the airline, it’s always clearly stated: the type of aircraft, the operating carriers, the schedules, etc... So what’s the connection with Air Mauritius? Air France does codeshares with Air Mauritius—that’s basically a form of subcontracting. It just means Air France has a partnership with Air Mauritius. And the reason you’re being forced to pay for a flight change is that one of the flights doesn’t have a high enough occupancy rate to be profitable.

I knew Air France was selling an Air Mauritius flight for the return trip.

But I was under the impression it was a good airline...

I should’ve gone with Emirates instead.

Air France is responsible for the situation since I bought the ticket through them.

I don’t think it’s overbooking. The flight was canceled and replaced with a morning flight.

I noticed this morning flight shows up about every three months as a replacement for the evening flight.

I guess they do quarterly overnight maintenance.

Fair enough, but Air Mauritius should just sell a daytime flight every three months instead of the night one.

And above all, do things properly. Right now, it’s done haphazardly, holding passengers hostage.

Air France will end up having to handle all the connections without even being notified yet.

It’s dishonest toward both Air France and the passengers.

On top of that, against all current regulations, they refuse to cover the transit night caused by their mismanagement.

This airline is really on its last legs!

Mauritius isn’t a budget destination. Given the price of tickets, you’d hope only reliable airlines would land there.

If anyone reads this thread, don’t book Air Mauritius—even less so if you buy directly from their site instead of Air France’s.

hey Attila, one way or another I hope your problem gets resolved and that you eventually get a refund
TA Tatra Globetrotter ·
I think you have the same flaw as me—you want to try to understand how it works and anticipate... But some things are beyond us. You just have to accept waiting to see the wall. You have an AF ticket for a specific final destination, and they have to get you there on time. They’ll figure it out; you just go with the flow. It’s not your problem—it’s theirs. There’ll be a delay, it’ll cost them a hotel, a meal, and a hefty compensation. They’ll handle it.

Michel

In this case, the problem isn't leaving... It's coming back!

Air travel is getting worse and worse, I think.

When things go well, it’s worth saying so too.

The Air France team on Messenger sorted out my issue this morning by rebooking us on an AF flight.

Air Mauritius never again...

Still 2 days, but it was the weekend. 😉

A good point for AF !
