Hi, We’re thinking of going to Albania at the end of May, early June 2025. We’re a bit hesitant because the timeline feels tight for planning this trip. We’re considering about ten days there. Does that seem like enough time for a first-time visit? Thanks.

Hi there,

Ten days should give you a good overview of the country, and the pre-season seems like a great option to avoid the summer crowds.

I’d avoid spending too many days on the coast, which is a bit overdeveloped like everywhere else in Europe.

Hi there,

I traveled to Albania in 2022 and spent 18 days there, doing a loop around the interior of the country (completely avoiding the coast). Looking back, I think 2 weeks would’ve been enough for the route I took. 10 days feels a little short to me—just keep in mind that travel isn’t super fast on the roads (I mostly used local buses).

Hello Francis,

If it’s not too late: We were there in May 2023 for 11 days. It gave us plenty of time to explore the southern part of Tirana at a relaxed pace: Berat, Dhermi, Ksamil/Butrint, Gjirokastër, Korçë. We could’ve easily added a short loop to the north (Krujë) without any issues.

I haven’t had a chance to transcribe my travel journal on the forum yet, but it’s available on MyAtlas: https://www.myatlas.com/Lofwyra/une-escapade-au-pays-des-aigles

Yes, I agree with what was just said. For a ten-day itinerary, don’t try to do a full loop of Albania—focus on one half of the country instead, like Pboulard did in the southern part, or the opposite in the northern part, for example with Krujë, Shkodër, Lake Koman, and the valleys of the Albanian "Alps."

In ten days, I’d say either the north (Tirana, Shkoder, Theth, and hikes in the mountains) or the south (Tirana, Berat, Permet). I think you can enjoy at least one day by the sea since you’re traveling off-season, so there’ll be fewer crowds and better prices. You could, for example, stop in Himare on the way to Permet!
