Si tu règles tes réservations par carte bancaire (suivant ta carte) tu as déjà une partie des assurances.
Sur le site cela à déjà fait l'objet de nombreux échanges. Sinon soit beaucoup plus précise (complément assurance auto, avance ou prise en charge des frais médicaux, etc.).

Les soins aux USA sont beaucoup plus élevés qu'en France.
Vous voyagez hors de l'Union européenne
Seuls les soins urgents imprévus pourront éventuellement être pris en charge par votre caisse d'Assurance Maladie.
Dans ce cas, vous devez régler vos frais médicaux sur place. Conservez les factures et justificatifs de paiement et présentez-les, à votre retour, à votre caisse d'Assurance Maladie. Au vu des justificatifs, le médecin conseil de votre caisse d'Assurance Maladie appréciera si vous étiez ou non dans une situation d'urgence. Il vous accordera alors ou non le remboursement de vos soins, dans la limite des tarifs forfaitaires français en vigueur.
À noter : le montant du remboursement qui vous sera versé ne pourra excéder le remboursement qui vous aurait été accordé si les soins avaient été dispensés en France.
Française vivant en Belgique, j'ai encore du mal à comprendre toutes les histoires de sécurité sociale et de ce qui pourrait être pris en charge ou non en cas de pb aux States... mais vu les montants des frais médicaux et autres là bas, n'ayant pas de "super" CB ou de super assurance, je préfère ne pas faire des économies de "bouts de chandelles" quand je pars aux USA, donc on prend une assurance chez AVI (routard assistance à 22€/semaine) qui m'a semblé être le meilleur rapport qualité/prix (mais en espérant que ce genre d'assurance ne me serve pas ! 😉)... il y a sans doute mieux ailleurs (mais plus cher... je m'étais renseigné chez Mondial Assistance, pour avoir les mêmes garanties, c'était beaucoup + cher...).

Leserge quand je parle d'assistance c'est pour les frais medicaux(rapatriement, hospitalisation etc) ainsi que la responsabilité juridique!Je n'aurais pas de carte de credit là bas c'est mon ami qui en aura une(il a d'ailleurs payé les billets et la location de voiture avec donc je n'ai pas besoin d'assurances pour cela)!!
Vnoa tout comme toi je me suis tournée vers AVI car les services proposés me semblent bien et surtout le prix est correct(en effet j'ai trouvé cela très élevé chez mondial ou europ assistance)!

Pour votre famille normalement y'a pas de problèmes ils seront aussi assurés, mon ami a pris la carte gold et c'est bien mentionné que la famille est assuré!!
Dans notre cas on nous a d'abord dit que je serais aussi assurée (bien qu'on ne soit ni pacsé ni marié et qu'on ne puisse pas prouver qu'on habite ensemble.)
Par la suite j'apelle l'assurance de la carte gold et la dame pas vraiment sympathique me dit "ah non non vous ne serez pas assurée etc...".
Résultat je dois prendre une assurance!
Mais dans votre cas je ne vois pas de problèmes, mais si vous avez vraiment un doute appelez les pour tout mettre au clair!🙂
Il faut vérifier le montant des frais maximum pour les besoins médicaux .Pour l'Amérique du nord, ils sont trop bas surtout pour une famille .Nous prenons une assurance complémentaires formule famille chez Europ assistance.Et avant de s 'en servir sur place toujours téléphoner d'abord à l'assureur car ils ont des correspondants sur place que tu doit respecter.Si tu vas dans un hôpital qui ne correspond pas au réseau de l'assureur tu risques non seulement d'avancer les frais mais encore de ne pas être remboursé.Les sommes peuvent monter trés vite dans certains cas les blessés ou malades peuvent ne pas etre rapatriable pendants des jours, c'est vrai que de penser à tout ça avant de partir cela fait bizarre.

prends une carte gold elle couvre toute ta famille,
et en plus la 1ère année elle est gratuite,
mais attention il faut avoir PAYé SES BILLETS d'AVION avec, car ils demandes LES relevés bancaires..
si tu as déjà pris tes tickets, c'est RATé!!!!!!
si sur place tu as un souci, appelle les bien comme il est mentionné plus haut, si tu es hospitalisé l'assurance s'occupe de tout sinon il faudra avancé l'argent.
et une fois rentré en France la sécu te rembourse sur le prix d'une consult, la mutuelle une partie et ce n'est qu'après que tu envoie le décompte à l'assurance.!!!

la réalité est beaucoup plus intéressante que ses rêves....
la carte gold c'est 5000 euros maxi pour l'annulation (vol, hôtel, location, ..) est encore tout dépend de quand à lieu l'annulation regarde bien le contrat.en fonction du délai avant le départ tu risques d'y perdre beaucoup .
il faut bien lire le petit livret que te donnes la banque car il y a toujours de petites lignes qui comptent !
En Belgique, Ethias propose une "assistance seulement pour les personnes"
Cela coute 50€/an. Elle rembourse les frais médicaux ds le monde entier à concurrence de 75.000 €

oui, j'étais justement sur le site de Avi pour comparer...et c'est vrai qu'il y a une nette différence mais je me disais que 75000€, c'était peut-etre suffisant...Maintenant, ça me fait hésiter...

Il y a quelques années, nous étions pour 3 semaines à Savannah. Le dernier jour, mon fils, 5 ans à l'époque, est tombé d'un mur d'escalade et s'est fait mal au poignet. Nous sommes allés aux urgences. Là, nous avons passé plus de temps à nous acquitter des formalités administratives qu'à être pris en charge. Ce n'est qu'au bout de 2 heures qu'une infirmière a enfin jeté un oeil au poignet, et a dit "il faut appeler un médecin, et donc attendre encore un peu". On en avait vraiment marre, il arrivait à bouger le poignet et la douleur s'était estompée, on rentrait en Belgique le lendemain.... on est partis (nous sommes allés dans une pharmacie acheter de quoi lui faire un strap). Quelques semaines après, on a reçu la facture de l'hôpital : 240 dollars... J'ai appelé l'hôpital et leur ai expliqué la situation, en disant que je refusais de payer 240 dollars pour "ça", que nous n'avions même pas vu de médecin. Et je dois dire que je n'en ai plus entendu parler. Nous devons être passés dans les "pertes et profits".
Voilà, c'était juste un "exemple". C'est le seul dont je dispose personnellement car, touchons du bois, malgré de nombreux séjours aux USA, c'est la seule fois où nous avons été confrontés à leur système médical.

Je me renseigne...Sur "america dream Z", on annonce des couts d'hospitalisation pouvant atteindre 5000$/jour.
Donc, 75000€(couverture Ethias) couvrent +/- 20 jours d'hospitalisation...
Et 300000€ (couverture Avi) couvrent +/- 80 jours d'hospitalisation...
Quand tu parles de responsabilité civile, est-ce la meme chose si on prend, lors de la location de voiture, la LIS assurant jusqu'à 1 million de dollars???

Avec ma carte American Express Gold cela a fait doublon sur les points *
Sur le point (1) nous étions couvert sans limite en complément des remboursements des la S.S. et de la mutuelle, Pour les frais dentaires de mémoire le montant en cas d'urgence est de 300€ après accord.
Rien n'est obligatoire en assurance complémentaire. Mais après une très mauvaise expérience en Californie en 2005 je sais pourquoi je prends le complément FRAIS MEDICAUX et non pas avance des FRAIS MEDICAUX, même si, et c'est vrai sur mes 6 séjours au total, les 5 autres se sont très bien passés. Du coup et c’est propre à moi, je m’applique ce vieux proverbe : Chat échaudé craint l'eau froide

After that, we’re heading to Sherbrooke to visit our daughter, who’s studying at the university there. We’ll spend 3 days with her, and then, since she has a break that week, we’re taking her along for 3 days in Quebec City.
We’ve planned to visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans.
I’d love to hear what route you’d recommend for the drive from Sherbrooke to Quebec City—we’ll have the whole day to take it easy.

Classic itinerary: arrival in Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, Vancouver Island, departure from Vancouver.
I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

We went as a family to Mount Rushmore in 2023, where my son bought a multi-function pocket knife like the one below with his name engraved—'NOAH'.
Unfortunately, he just lost it, and he was really attached to it. So, if there’s a kind soul passing by Mount Rushmore who could bring one back for me (I’d obviously cover all costs), that would be amazing for my son.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.
Everything’s booked for September—flights, accommodations, and the car. As I plan, I’ll be asking the experts for help. This is our second trip to California, but most of the stops are new to us.
We’ll start directly from San Francisco to our first overnight stop, Davis, before heading to Lassen Volcanic Park for 4 nights. Our flight lands at 12:50 PM.

Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?
After our first trip to the West, we’d love to go back to see other must-see spots!

Just a little post that might interest some of you:

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
