We're planning a 2-week trip in late February/early March for a road trip in the High Atlas with a rental car, and we'd love to avoid booking our accommodations in advance. Is that doable, easily manageable, or risky (are accommodations available, expensive, or not great)? Thanks for your tips! Annie

Hi there,

Apart from Marrakech, where it's wiser to book ahead (if you're passing through, that is), you don’t *have* to reserve anywhere else in the High Atlas at this time of year. That said, to avoid any nasty surprises or evening hassles, scout out a few accommodations along your route that catch your eye, and give them a call as you get closer to check availability and book. A quick call in the morning or during the day for that night is a real comfort.

Hello! In the small villages of the Ourika Valley, you’ll always find a local to put you up. If possible, stay in Setti Fatma or Aït Benhaddou—the scenery is stunning. Especially the ksar of AB, it’s incredible, like a sand citadel.
