pour ma part ca me laisse perplexe et
sans vous offenser, ca ressemble au tracé d'un voyage "découverte de la Thaïlande - 15 jours en gros bus de 40" avec l'unique différence que c’est une voiture qui suit le tracé des gros bus , que c’est vous qui conduisez ,
et quand on conduit en général d'une part c'est plutot stressant en tant que touriste , d’autre part on n'a pas vraiment le temps de regarder ailleurs que devant soi ( enfin c’est ce que je vous conseille vivement !! )
quand vous mettez Loei 1 jour Lampang 1 jour Chiangrai 1 jour ca veut dire grosso modo que vous passez la moitié de votre journée dans votre voiture (en thailande le jour tombe a 18h 18h30)
vous ne mettez que les distances autoroute point a point , mais grosso modo il faut au minimum doubler le kilométrage avec les visites et donc doubler le temps passé dans votre voiture
d’après votre circuit vous allez passer la moitié de votre temps dans des villes et petites villes ou la voiture sera plutot un handicap parceque les balades a pied en ville , en vélo ou avec les transports publics y seront beaucoup plus pratique et economiques (à ChaingMai a ChiangRai a Lampang a KonKaen a Korat ..)

autant l'offre de transports publics est importante dès qu'on est dans des zones touristiques (Ayuttaya, Bangkok, Koh Samui..etc..) autant le véhicule particulier est lui quasi indispensable dès qu'on en sort...
Khon Kaen jusqu'à Thaton en transports en commun, bonjour la galère...surtout si on essaie, on tente d'aller voir des joyaux totalement en dehors des circuits touristiques farang...
Quelques exemples,
si de Khon Kaen on veut aller à Pattaya 2, c'est le nom d'une autre station balnéaire qui se trouve au bord du grand lac Ubolratana Dam, puis de là, monter sur Nong Bua Lamphu pour "faire" la route 210, s'arrêter à la très belle grotte Erawan, monter sur Loei, puis route 203, magnifique avec toutes ces fleurs le long de la route, et tout plein de wat originaux mais rarement au bord de la route...
Nakhon Thai, puis toujours de belles routes départementales , monter sur Uttaradit où dans un wat sans prétention se trouve un pickup , lui, extraordinaire...
continuer par la 11 sur Dan Sai, et au lieu de tourner à gauche vers Lampang, aller à droite...quelques km plus loin sur la droite un superbe Bouddha couché et un non moins superbe Wat plus un musée gratuit consacré à la dynastie Chakri...
etc...
Ben en transports en commun, c'est non seulement galère mais impossible à faire en moins de quinze jours , alors qu'avec une auto avec ou sans chauffeur, sans se presser c'est une question de 4/5 jours...
Comme les autres intervenants... je dirais que votre projet est bien trop ambitieux !!!
En prenant appui sur la trame du circuit proposé... et par soucis de pragmatisme... oublier dans un premier temps la partie Nakhon R, Khon Kaen et Loei. En 4 jours et même en étant véhiculé... c'est l'assurance de ne rien voir au final !!!
En mettant de coté cette partie du pays... cela va vous permettre de respirer un peu et ainsi vous donner l’opportunité de pouvoir sortir des Higways entre les différentes étapes. Cela a justement été signalé dans les messages précédents... emprunter les grands axes routiers juste pour passer d'une grande ville a une autre ne vous permettra pas de jouir totalement de la mobilité et de la liberté que confère un véhicule privé... vous allez passer a coté de pleins de choses.En vous appuyant sur le forum, sur les blogs de mes camarades, en fouinant sur internet, vous vous rendrez compte que pas mal de petites pépites se situent en dehors des circuits classiques... voila a mon sens le véritable intérêt de louer une voiture pour une quinzaine de jours... aller a la fois a la recherche de ces endroits sans pour autant totalement oublier les sites les plus renommés.... c'est la combinaison des deux qui rendra votre voyage au final très différent !!!
Avec un peu d’expérience, on se rend compte que toutes les provinces du pays regorgent de lieux intéressants... il est donc inutile de vouloir courir dans tous les sens...
Pour en revenir a votre ébauche d’itinéraire et en supprimant la partie Issan... Kanchanaburi en 2 jours... trop court... cela serait dommage de ne pas profiter un peu plus des richesses de cette belle province.
Sukhothai... 1 jour pourrait suffire... visite le matin de bonne heure du site historique puis route vers Sri Satchanalai ... possible de dormir a Uttaradit ou Phrae selon vos souhaits de visite pour le lendemain. Ces deux villes possèdent une multitude de lieux très sympa a découvrir.
Entre Lampang et la ville de Chiang Rai... pas mal de choses aussi a visiter... la province de Phayao est vraiment charmante.
Thaton... 3 jours... c'est a mon avis trop... en réduisant votre séjour a cet endroit... vous allez pouvoir effectuer une boucle
dans les environs de Chiang Rai... avec le moteur de recherche vous allez tomber sur des centaines de message traitant de cette partie du pays.
Il ne reste plus qu'a se pencher sur votre montée entre Kanchana et Sukhothai... a titre perso je ne rejoindrais pas Ayuthaya... question encore une fois de pragmatisme mais aussi que la visite fait un peu doublon avec Sukho. Plusieurs itinéraires possibles...
Pour ma part j'envisagerai un retour sur Bangkok depuis Chiang Mai en avion... la boucle est bouclée et le circuit de départ a prit une cure d'amaigrissement a mon sens salvatrice !!!
Je suis aussi de l'avis de ne pas se mettre des boulets au pied des le départ en faisant des réservations a droite et a gauche... vous perdriez déjà un peu de la liberté que permet la location d'un véhicule. Ne vous inquiétez surtout pas a ce sujet... vous trouverez de nombreux établissements dans toutes les étapes de votre parcours.

c est deja un peu moins lourd, mais encore trop surement, même ça ne te laissera pas bcp de marge pour profiter d une pépite inattendue que tu découvrirais
+++1 pour les hébergements, ne reserve rien et visite, repere au passage. Mes préférés sont accessibles seulement avec un véhicule, excentrés, un peu ds la cambrousse, avec de petits bungalows semés dans des parcs paysagers, orchidées, jasmins et autres fleurs parfumées, arbres fruitiers, petits étangs, fontaines... Ils sont presque toujours d un bien meilleur rapport qualité/prix que les solutions les plus évidentes centrées autour des gares routières, ferroviaires et des centre villes. ils sont aussi moins souvent pleins, surtout en mars dans les coins ou tu veux te balader
Je pense m'en tenir à ce circuit ou à peu près et ne faire aucune réservation. Merci PS , en regardant tes voyages je remarque que l'afrique est absente !!!!

En fait, vous commencez par deux mois à Koh Samui , 62 jours même! pour terminer par 19 jours de circuit...
ça vous fait donc quasi 90 jours en Thaïlande;
je suppose que vous savez que le visa simple entrée n'est que de 60 jours prolongeable 30 jours.
N'oubliez pas cependant que la prolongation n'est pas automatique, elle est au bon vouloir de l'officier d'Immigration .
Et si vous en obtenez une elle vous coûtera 1900 baht par personne.
Comme vous répond Renaud Sechet, programme "un peu mieux" mais qui risque cependant de ne pas être tenu..
Kanchanaburi, la province bien sûr! mérite beaucoup plus que 3 à 4 jours;
Sukkhothai avec Si_Satchanalai se visite tranquillement en moins d'une journée, y compris les quelques 40 km qui séparent les deux sites.
Vous allez de toutes façons passer à côté de plein de pépites; et que votre voyage dure quelques semaines ou plusieurs mois, ça ne changera rien à la chose.
Terminer par quatre jours à Bangkok, Pourquoi pas?
C'est une très grande ville avec tant de choses à voir et/ou à visiter...

Bonjour pour nous ( il est 12h) Concernant les visas j'ai envoyé tout cela hier au consulat de Thaïlande à Lyon j'ai payé 55€ par personne pour un visa de 90 jours , je croyais qu'il m'en aurait fait un pour 58 jours et renouvenable effectivement à Koh Samui pour 1900 bhts !!!! et bien non , je n'aurai pas à courrir , est moins cher ( 110€ au lieu de 30x2+46x2)
Concernant le circuit on verra au fur et à mesure de la " progression" , pour vu que l'on puisse prendre notre avion à Chiang Mai le 19. Bangkok , oui 3 nuits, je pense que ça suffit , nous les grandes villes !!!
Précisez que vous avez plus de 50 ans sinon certains vont croire que le visa de tourisme de 90 jours existe réellement!
Votre visa est un visa "retraité" simple entrée.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).
I need some expert advice on these two destinations for a 15-day trip. We land in KL and plan to stay for 2 days before heading to Borneo and finishing with an island for snorkeling.
For those who’ve been, what are your must-sees?
We were thinking of spending the last 3 days on the Perhentian Islands, unless you’ve got another island to recommend near Borneo.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?
