Nous serons de Juin a fin Juillet en Indonesie. Nous avons trouve un low cost depuis KL pour rejoindre Mankassar.
Nous ne connaissons pas beaucoup le pays mais cherchons des coins paradisiaque et si possible en dehors des grandes voies touristiques.
J'ai fouille sur le net mais j'ai juste pu voir que Alor etait conecte depuis Denpassar, Surabaya et Kupang.
J'aurai aime trouve un ferry allant Mankassar jusque Flores et de flores rejoindre l'archipel d'Alor.
Avez vous deja ete la bas? Comment avez vous fait? Quel sont les plus beau spot de plongee dans cette partie de l'Indonesie pour vous?
Tu dis attendre les réponses avec impatience. Là déjà c'est tout faux pour voyager en Indo 😉
Les plus beaux spots de plongée, au moins aussi bien que Sipadan mais à des prix nettement plus raisonnables, sont vers Alor. Cédrick de la p'tite kepa connais toute la région comme sa poche. J'y ai passé 3 semaines inoubliables. À deux, c'est 125000/pax en pension complète. Et c'est bon !
Pour y aller, de Larantuka, on a d'abord fait un stop à Lewoleba. Petite île a visiter, beaucoup de charme, les gens d'une gentillesse dngue. En sortant de Flores qui fut si dure à cause des gens, on a halluciné. Des sourires à la pelle, et gratuits ! On avait oublié ! Dans le Sud il y a un petit village de pêcheurs de baleine. Vas-y !!!
Ensuite tu prends un woddenboat pour Pentar (à moins que tu trouves un ferry pour Alor mais c'st moins sympa). Nous étions à Wairiang le jour du marché. Comme on a mal dormi, le réveil matinal nous a permis de vivre lesprémices du marché, puis son intensité. Et là nous avons pris le petite bateau pour Pentar (pas trouvé pour Kepa ou Kalabahi direct), passé une nuit et puis un autre petit bateau qui nous a lâché directement sur la plage de kepa.
De Makassar, regarde sur le site PELNI, il y a un ou plusieurs bateaux à faire la liaison. La traversée doit prendre 3 jours je crois, vérifie.

Le Bukit Siguntang relie Makassar à Maumere un mercredi sur 2 (semaines impaires)
Mieux: un lundi sur deux (semaine paire) le Sirimau relie Makassar à Larantuka puis Kalabahi (durée 2 jours et 2 nuits)

A Alor, les plus beaux spots de plongée sont, à ma connaissance, autour de Pulau Kepa. Attention à bien réserver la petite Kepa à cette période, ils sont victimes de leur succès !

Ouais, c'est tout à fait ce genre de bateau. Celui pour Pentar était plus petit (tu l'as pris d'où ?), celui de Pentar à Kalabahi comme le tient. On a moins flippé, parce que le premier, pour traverser le détroit, d es fois j'ai serré les fesses. Nos sac à dos trempés, ça c'était finalement rien par rapport à la peur.
À Baranussa, j'ai dormi dans une maison à 50m du port, un homestay tenu par un musulman. Celui sur le port n'existe plus. Chez ce vieux monsieur, Anne avait distribué des moustiquaires (elle fait partie d'une ONG Suisse) que je n'ai pas vues. Il y a une croyance par là-bas : là où tu dors, il ne doit rien y avoir au dessus de toi à part le toit ! Donc pas de net, ce qui enchante les moskitos à palu.
Il te faut réserver Kepa dès maintenant, cs sont des habitués qui reviennent tous les ans. Le meilleur bungalow est le grand 360 près du restaurant. Demande-le si c'est possible. Sinon celui juste à côté…

On l'a pris à Kalabahi... car le ferry normal était encore en panne.
Sauf qu'il nous a pas emmenés à Baranusa mais dans un bled paumé d'où aucune route ne partait, contrairement à ce que ma carte indiquait, il a donc fallu mettre le scooter dans un bateau de pêcheur pour finir, de nuit, la "route" vers Baranusa....
On a du dormir au même endroit je pense. De toutes façons à Baranusa ça a l'air d'être le seul. On se faisait faire à bouffer dans l'épicerie d'à côté (y'a pas de warung à Pantar), ils faisaient de bons "ikan kuah" si on prenait la peine de commander la veille...
Le vieux ne faisait pas la popote, il a donc fallu se débrouiller. Heureusement, les chinois de l'épicerie nous ont gentiment proposé de faire quelques plats pour pas très cher. Ils ont été vraiment kool sur le coup.
Le lendemain matin à 9h on prenait le deuxième wooden boat qui nous déposait directement sur la plage de Kepa (tu reconnaitras la plage sur les photos en bas. Combien de temps es-tu resté chez eux ?
Le ferry n'était pas en panne, mais j'aurais presque aimé et ainsi être obligé de prendre un avion. La nuit pas kool du tout mais bon, pas cher…
Aah ces "oreng china", heureusement qu'ils sont là sinon y'a des fois où j'aurai crevé de faim ou de soif 😉
Sur Pulau Kepa, on est resté que 3 jours et 2 nuits, après on s'est fait gentiment virer car ils étaient full en réservations !!
Mais Miss Kepa (ché plus son prénom à la femme de Cédric?) elle m'a vachement bien aidé à préparer mon parcours tout autour de l'île d'Alor. Je voulais aller distribuer aux habitants les photos prises par eversmile 3 ans plus tôt dans des bleds plus que paumés... j'ai pu les distribuer presque toutes et en mains propres, enfin pas très propres mes mains, car on en a bien chié sur leurs chemins impraticables en 2 roues... que d'émotions Thierry ! 😎
PS: dis donc tu m'as pas l'air très chanceux niveau météo !! Je sais pas si je vais le grimper avec toi ce Rinjani 😛
Ces oreng china qui exploitent si bien le petit peuple indonésien, sans scrupules, sans états d'âmes, ne payant parfois que 500 000Rs par mois des jeunes plus proches de l'esclavage que d'une vie descente.
On est restés 3 semaines à Kepa sans jamais pousser plus loin que Kalabahi. On s'est posés, reposés mais pas de visites, rien, nada. Repos total près quelques mois pas toujours faciles sur les routes d'Asie. Alors si tu me racontes un peu Alor, je suis pas contre :-) Bien sur j'y retournerai avec la même idée que toi, mais en attendant…
Quant àla météo du moment, ça continue ! Borobodur sous la flotte (je l'ai déjà dit ?), ce matin on se lève et grand soleil. Voilà, on part sous le soleil, on roule et 3 heures plus tard on ratrappa la flotte qui est passée la veille. Sympa non ? Donc ben valavala, ce soir il pleut toujours, on est à Solo… Alors le Rinjani, faudra prévoir les zimpers !

Je ne sais pas trop pour les Chinois en Indo, je ne connais pas assez. En tout cas je suis content en général de trouver leurs épiceries dans les endroits ravitaillés par les corbeaux.
Te parler d'Alor? Ben en fait j'ai aimé essentiellement autour de Pulau Kepa, cet espèce de petit mamelon au nord de Kalabahi.
En dehors de cette zone j'ai pas trouvé qu'il y avait tant à voir à Alor. Et puis pour se déplacer c'est vraiment difficile, la côte sud ne peut se faire qu'à pieds ou en bateau... certes on est vraiment en dehors des sentiers battus, mais y'a pas grand chose à voir non plus.
Par contre j'ai fait le tour du mamelon (Pantai Mali, Pasir Putih, etc...) c'est vraiment chouette. J'ai pas encore mis les photos sur mon site, j'ai une grosse flemme, mais ça viendra...
Bon et puis d'ici le mois prochain j'espère que la saison des pluies sera finie 😇
Les nouaches en Indo, Anne me disait qu'ils sont un mal nécessaires. Les INdos eux-même seraient incapables d'assurer. Alors ils en profitent.

Circuler à Alor c'est pas la joie, le "réseau routier" est inexistant, ce sont des chemins praticables seulement à pinces car c'est plein de pierres. Là en arrière plan tu vois Rumaji galérer sur le scooter, on se relayait car c'était plus fatiguant de maitriser le scooter que de marcher à pieds 🤪 Pauvre scooter, comme on lui en a mis !!
De Pantar, j'avais bien l'intention au départ d'aller sur Larentuka, petit à petit, en faisant un arrêt à Lembata, puis de Larentuka prendre le ferry retour pour Kupang, mais j'ai renoncé, c'était trop galère avec le scooter. Dans cette partie de l'Indonésie, le scooter s'est souvent avéré être un handicap pour passer d'île en île. Et puis on avait trop trainé à Pulau Roti lors de la 1ère partie du voyage.
Alors on a fait demi tour, retour à Kupang en ferry via Kalabahi.
J'aurais bien aimé rester plus longtemps à Pantar, pour en faire le tour, car du haut du volcan on pouvait apercevoir des plages plutôt sympas.
J'ai bien aimé le Gunung Sirung, t'es monté là haut?
Les habitants nous ont invité à boire une noix de coco à redescente du volcan, je m'en suis torché 3 d'affilé tellement je crevais la soif (non pas qu'on avait pas prévu assez d'eau, mais j'avais pas prévu d'avoir autant de "guides" pour nous accompagner... bien qu'on ait au départ conclu l'affaire uniquement avec le gars au pull rayé...)
Tiens voilà mon fond d'écran au boulot: une plage pas loin de Kalabahi. L'avantage de voyager avec un local, c'est que j'en ai toujours un sur mes photos 😎
Ah et puis une tite photo de la Tite Kepa qui donnerait presque envie d'y aller. C'est pas qu'ils aient réellement besoin de pub mais bon... merci Anne 😊

Pentar : en fait on ne savait même pas qu'on était à Pentar ! Il y a un gars à la sortie du bateau qui m'a dit être guide et vouloir m'emmener grimper un volcan (je ne sais pas lequel). C'était à une période du voyage où on n'avait qu'une envie : se poser à Kepa et ne plus rien faire à part aller emm… les poissons ! Pour le moment et après plus de mois (cumulés) passés en Indonésie, nous n'avons violé qu'un seul volcan, le Kalimutu. Je compte bien ratrapper mon retard cette fois-ci.
Et le Rinjani, c'est quand même LE mythe à faire ! Et toi qui "habite" à côté tu n'y vas même pas ? Faute !!!!
Quand même, voyager avec un scoot et un local, y a pas mieux ! Déjà le scoot c'est énorme. À partie du 18 avril, je file à Kuta en louer un et je le lâche qu'en partant !

On sera a Surybaya debut Juin. De la on compte faire Le mont bhomo, Bali (en speed), Lombok (surf) et de la essayer de faire une croisiere roots jusqu'a Flores.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
