J'ai l'intention d'aller à Samarcande en moto en 2014 .Ma moto est une routière yamaha frj 1300 que je ne compte pas changer pour ce voyage hors quand je vais sur les comptes rendu des motards qui ont fait ce trajet je ne vois que des chemins de terre ou des pistes défoncées empruntées par des gars en trails . Ma question est :y a t'il des routes carrossables même en mauvais états où l'on peut passer avec une moto de "tous les jours" sans risquer de se mettre parterre tout les 100 mètres .Notamment au Kazakhstan et en Ousbekistan.
état des routes ouzbeks : catastrophique.
j'y connais rien en moto mais à mon avis c'est pas faisable, d'ailleurs il me semblait qu'on n'avait pas le droit de conduire sur les routes ouzbeks, et quand on a vu comment ils conduisent, c'est compréhensible.
A mon avis, à part en centre-ville, il faut une certaine habitude pour ne pas se faire tuer dans les 10 premiers kilomètres.
Toutes les routes qu'on a vues sont truffées de trous de toutes les tailles et la technique ouzbek ne consiste pas à ralentir pour s'adapter à l'état de la route mais à zigzaguer à toute allure entre les trous, même si pour ça il faut rouler à gauche.
Dans tout l'espace post soviétique les routes sont dans un état lamentable (voir image attachée : protestation en Russie, les gens avaient planté des fleurs dans les trous dans le bitume).
En Asie centrale, les infrastructures sont payés en pétrodollars (Kazakhstan), gazodollars (Turkménistan), goldodollars (Ouzbékistan). Vous avez donc des routes toutes neuves dans les grandes villes et pour certains grands axes. Les routes en mauvais état sont généralement praticables mais nécessite une attention de tous les instants qui devient très vite épuisante et qui vous empêche de profiter de votre voyage et du paysage. Le mieux pour vous est de prendre une carte et de pointer toutes les routes une par une sur internet (exercice long mais efficace à faire en russe voir en anglais). Sinon pour vos recherches il faut aller sur YouTube (c'est bête mais ça marche) vous taper le nom du pays et "moto" et vous tombez sur ce genre de vidéo embarquée http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7C_OFCkyYU Généralement son auteur vous précise la route et sa moto. Vous avez donc un aperçu réaliste du terrain.
EDIT : les axes stratégiques mer/capitale, les axes capitale/"village natal du président à vie" et une ou deux routes supplémentaires sont généralement en bon état.

je suis allé cette année au tadjiskistan en 1200gsa et donc j'ai empreinté les routes que tu souhaites faire.
Axe: astrakhan / benew /nukus (ouzbekistan)
La route de astrakhan a atyrau est goudronnée mais c'est un slalom entre les trous et goudron defoncé (j'ai ai laissé 6 rayons , mais je roulais vite 120 kmh (c'est dire ... sourires))
Ensuite atyrau Benew goudron nikel.
c'est après qu'en routière à mon sens tu vas peiner un peu...la sortie de benew est en travaux et un tronçon est carrément en hors piste sans le sable/terre , s'il pleut tu oublie! (c'est la que tu va en ****)
ensuite piste avec des tronçons de tôle ondulé , mais tu peux passer.
Ensuite c'est l'autonomie en carburant qu'il te faudra prévoir , pres de Nukus l'essence y est assez rare et l'appro compliqué.(en bouteille d'eau de 1.5 et indice 80 ron)
Apres ca passe jusqu'à Samarkand, kiva et Boukhara sont absolument splendide.
par Ouralsk/ actobé/ Aralsk Tachkent même route alternance de bonne route, goudron est dégradé et rien à cause des travaux...
Je ne veux pas te dissuader avec ta moto , car rien n'est impossible, mais tu risque d'y laisser des morceaux si tu va trop vite , de la sueur ca c'est sur! La conduite est a mon sens plus facile en moto qu'en voiture car on anticipe plus, et puis rouler au bon sens : il est plus gros il a raison etc...mais ca on a l'habitude en moto
une autre possibilité faire monter ta moto dans un train pour éviter ces longues traversée du kazak un peu chiante, même si les gens sont sympa

Tres bon choix ta Ténéré. ca passe partout et se répare bien, prévois des chambres a air renforcé. (je me souviens plus si c'est tubeless ou chambre)
Pour le carburant, concernant l'autonomie je conseille dans ce cas un bidons/jerrican.
La qualité et surtout le soucis de carburant se situe dans la région de Nukus en Ouzbékistan. Encore une fois , demande aux vendeur de boisson, ou repère les bouteille en plastique sur le bas coté , c'est certainement de l'essence de contrebande a vendre. arrête toi et fais le plein!

Pas des problemms avec l'essence, mais il faut que tu as un peu de soin avec ravitaillment. En Kazchstan, l'essence de tres bon qualie, tu peut allimenter 92 octans sans problemms, mais, la distance entre stations essence est, souvent, tres grande en comparation avec Europe.La plus grande distance peut etre environ 120Km. En plus, tu ne peut pas payer sourtuot avec un card Visa ou autre card.Donc, il faut avoir toujours cash et allimenter des petites quantitees aux stations que tu rencontre. Toutes les grandes et moyens villes ont de stations essence. Caz Munai Gaz est la plus grande companie petroliere nationale, bonne essence, payment Visa card presque sourtout. En Ouzbekistan est un peu plus difficile parce que l'essence est seulement 80 octans, payment cash, les stations a grand distance. Il faut prendre soin de ne te tromper avec stations butan et propan qui sont sourtuos, tres grandes, tres modernes, pareilles avec cellee d'essence. Les stations essence sont presque toujours plus petites, vieux, grand distance.Toutes les grandes villes ont quelques stations essence. Comme en Kazachstan, il faut allimenter a tuotes les stations que tu rencontre. En Georgie depend de la route. Sur les grandes routes pas de problemme, sur les routes secondaires il faut allimenter toujours mais, les distances sont considerablement courtes. Turkie sans problemmes.

August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
