Je pars pour Atlanta 8 jours fin Juin, avec deux nuits à Savannah.
J'ai regardé un peu ce qu'il y avait à faire à voir à Atlanta, on y passe peut-être trop de temps mais bon pas le choix on ne peut pas faire autrement.
Je souhaitais avoir éventuellement les avis et conseils de personnes qui y sont allés
Que faut-il voir ou faire absolument ? Ce qui est cité dans les guides touristiques mais qui ne vaut pas le coup ? De bonnes adresses pour manger ? Les quartiers à éviter éventuellement question sécurité ?
Je recherche aussi quelques témoignages sur Savannah 😉
Tu es "obligé" de rester à Atlanta pendant 6 jours, c'est ça ? Dommage, car il y a de belles choses à voir en Géorgie et en Caroline du Sud. Je ne peux pas t'aider pour Atlanta, je n'en connais que l'aéroport (immense) 😏.
Savannah est une ville très agréable, qui se découvre à pieds (pour changer !). C'est une ambiance, une atmosphère particulière. Le vieux sud, authentique. L'architecture et l'aménagement de la ville y sont remarquables. Tu peux faire une recherche avec mon pseudo et Savannah. J'ai déjà parlé plusieurs fois de cette ville. 🙂

Effectivement je suis obligée de passer plus de temps sur Atlanta car le point de départ de ce voyage est un voyage professionnel de mon mari, qui va assister à des réunions dans cette ville. Nous avons décidé de prendre quelques jours supplémentaires pour visiter un peu et j'ai donc casé deux nuits à Savannah parce que j'avais très envie d'y aller ! Avec un peu de temps (et de moyens surtout en fait ! 😊) je serais également allée à Charleston !
J'ai très envie de voir une ville typique du vieux Sud et j'espère que Savannah me comblera 🙂

Si si 😉. Drayton Hall et Boone Hall, par exemple. Bon, OK, c'est plutôt vers Charleston. 😛
Je sais que je suis une adepte des voyages rapides, et encore plus quand j'étais jeune 😏, mais il y a des années, pour ma première visite de Savannah, nous avons fait en 3 jours : départ d'Atlanta direction Charleston, avec visites de Drayton Hall et Boone Hall. Nuit à Charleston et visite le lendemain matin jusqu'en début d'aprem, route vers Savannah en passant par Beaufort, puis nuit et visite à Savannah, avant de revenir à Atlanta. Alors... y a moyen... si jamais 😉. C'est pas l'idéal, mais pourquoi pas ! Charleston est vraiment magnifique. Différent de Savannah, mais peut-être encore plus beau à mon goût.

J'ai regardé pour "caser" aussi Charleston mais c'était trop compliqué malheureusement... 😉 Dommage car le petit circuit dont tu parlais était très tentant !
Mais je crois que je vais me régaler à Savannah aussi, c'est tout à fait le style d'architecture que j'ai envie de voir. Je suis pas difficile en fait, pour ma première visite aux Etats-Unis je suis allée en Floride et j'étais limite extatique devant tout !! lol 😄 Je plaisante mais bon, je suis si contente de retourner aux US, d'autant que je ne m'attendais pas à y retourner un an après la Floride, que je vais me contenter de ce que je peux avoir, même une grande ville pleine de voitures comme Atlanta ! 😎
Mon mari est allé à Atlanta l'année dernière pour le boulot et il en a profité pour visiter CNN et Coka Cola (il nous a ramené une bouteille souvenir). Il a beaucoup aimé ces deux visites.

J'y suis passé l'année dernière. Je n'étais que de passage à Atlanta (Nord de la Floride - Nashville) où j'ai visité durant l'après-midi le musée Coca Cola. Sympa à voir...

Le programme c'est arrivée à Atlanta le Mercredi AM, installation à l'hôtel et sûrement repos (voire piscine 😛), le lendemain départ pour Savannah deux jours, le Samedi retour sur Atlanta (y'a t-il des endroits sympas où s'arrêter entre Savannah et Atlanta ?). Nous visiterons probablement Coca cola et l'aquarium qui est paraît-il formidable, le Dimanche peut-être aller voir la messe dans une église où il y a de très beaux gospels. A partir du Mardi mon mari sera en conférences donc toute seule je ne pense pas que je vais trop m'éloigner de l'hôtel, ce sera sûrement mall ! 😉 Y'a t-il des mall intéressants ds Downtown ?
Moi quand je vois ça, je me dis que vous avez largement le temps d'aller à Charleston et de faire quelques plantations ! 😛 Pourquoi vouloir revenir le samedi sur Atlanta, si monsieur n'a sa conférence que mardi ? Le musée Coca, l'aquarium... ce sont des visites que tu peux faire toute seule pendant qu'il est en conférence non ?

Eh eh ! Aaaaaaah arrête tu vas me faire avoir des regrets là ! 😛 L'hôtel est réservé à Atlanta pour le samedi soir.... En fait le truc c'est que j'avais peur que ça fasse beaucoup de kilomètres et comme je n'aime pas trop conduire, c'est mon mari qui s'y colle, ça m'embêtait que sur une semaine il se tape beaucoup de conduite. Maiiiiiiiis en même temps oui je l'avoue ça m'en...quiquine de ne pas aller à Charleston 😉
Ce n'est quand même pas tant de kilomètres que ça... puis ça permet de faire une boucle... et les hôtels, ça s'annule ! Atlanta-Charleston ou Atlanta-Savannah, c'est kif-kif. Et entre Atlanta et Charleston, il n'y a pas tant que ça... et de petites visites en route (Hilton Head, Beaufort...).
Désolée de te donner des regrets - ou de te pousser à faire autre chose - mais je trouve dommage d'être si près et d'avoir l'occasion d'y aller... et de ne pas le faire. 😕

Je vais regarder et voir avec l'agence, après il faut voir aussi ce que ça change niveau budget parce que je n'arrête pas de faire augmenter le voyage déjà depuis le début 😛 Mais bon ceci dit tu as raison, c'est vraiment dommage de rater ça, j'ai très envie de voir ce soin plus profondément.
Pourquoi passes-tu par une agence ? Tu sais, un hôtel à Atlanta ou à Charleston (ou ailleurs), ça ne change rien au budget. Peut-être 2 jours de voiture de location en plus. Mais ce n'est pas vraiment ça qui coûte, et encore, je suppose que vous auriez gardé la voiture à Atlanta ?

Je vais te faire dépenser encore plus de sous, mais moi, je te conseillerais un aller/retour sur Nashville ou Memphis, trois nuits dans l'une ou l'autre de ces deux villes situées à environ 4h de route d'Atlanta.
Là, au Tennessee, il y a des choses à voir. Country Music, Jack Daniels pour Nashville; Blues, rock, Graceland pour Memphis... De nombreux musées, bars, saloons voués à ces styles musicaux et des rues mythiques qui vivent si bien la nuit au rythme country et bluesy !
LOL, Bluesjake ! La pauvre, elle ne va plus s'en sortir !

Je ne suis pas assez aventurière pour me barrer sur les routes toute seule qui plus est à l'étranger et avec mon niveau d'Anglais moyen 😛
Par contre, Virginiath, j'ai regardé un peu la carte et quoiqu'il arrive, le Samedi en quittant Savannah je pense monter au moins jusqu'à Beaufort (oui je sais une fois que je suis là Charleston n'est plus très loin ! 😉) et j'ai fait une demande de renseignements auprès de mon agence pour remplacer les deux nuits d'Atlanta samedi et Dimanche pour deux nuits à Charleston (J'ai déjà payé l'acompte auprès de l'agence, je suis partie avec eux en Floride et c'était impeccable, c'est pour ça que je ne me suis pas débrouillée toute seule 😛).
Mais ici, ce n'est pas à proprement parler un circuit... Vous n'avez pas besoin d'agence, ni même de réserver à l'avance... Il y a assez d'hôtels et de motels, et vous pourriez vous arrêter en fonction de vos envies.

Bon, il me semble utile de venir soutenir les arguments de Virginie dans ce dossier ! Petite suggestion :
Arrivée mercredi Atlanta : sitôt les bagages récupérés, vous foncez au guichet et prenez possession de la voiture louée. Et vous tracez la route de suite, Interstate 75 direction Macon-Savannah. Juste avant Macon il y a un petit bled "Forsyth" avec un motel Super8 fort convenable et pas cher. Regarde www.super8.com
Jeudi matin (vous serez réveillés tôt avec le décalage😛😛😛) en route vers Savannah et visite de la ville. Dodo sur place (ils ont aussi un Super8.....)
Vendredi matin : route 170 pour Beaufort puis 17 vers Charleston et début visite. Dodo Charleston
Samedi De nouveau Charleston et ses plantations (si pas le temps, zappez Drayton House) et 2eme dodo sur place
Dimanche retour vers Atlanta via Augusta et dodo Atlanta
Pour ce qui est d'Atlanta....j'y suis allé 2-3 fois, surtout boulot, mais n'étant pas fan de Coke, ni de Scarlett O'Hara, ni de CNN... je suis passé vite... devant le cinéma "Fox" où le film a été présenté en premier ! Surprenant que ce soit encore un cinéma en activité !!
Alors OUI, OUI et OUI z'avez le temps de voir Savannah plus Charleston !!
Et fais toi même les résas de motel ! en 2 clics c'est fait ! Idem pour la location auto sur www.locationdevoiture.fr !!

Oui, oui il lui faut voir les deux villes et de visiter quelques intérieurs où elle sera à même de vérifier si cette comparaison tient la route.
Selon moi, oui.
À Savannah, surnommée la "ville hôtesse", les rues sont plus jolies; la ville est anglaise de style et de tempérament. La ville attire les touristes.
À Charleston, les intérieurs des maisons sont plus jolis; la ville a reçu l’influence française, espagnole et anglaise. A été surnommée la « ville sainte » en raison de ses nombreuses églises.
C'est super beau ! (Et j'adore le style du site aussi 🙂) mais bon je n'y suis que 8 jours dont 3 obligatoirement sur Atlanta, va falloir faire des choix 😉

Dans l'historic district (donc la "péninsule"), tu vas voir flamber les prix je pense... et tu auras un autre pblm : garer la voiture ! Car ça sera soit interdit, soit très cher !!
J'ai logé 3 nuits au Days Inn à North Charleston, qui a entre autre l'avantage d'être assez près de Magnolia plantation.....qui est sur Ashley River Road (la 61).
Les Days Inn sont sur le même site que les Super8 et autres Travelodge car du même groupe !
Correction-mea culpa : je viens de visiter daysinn.com et ils en ont un en plein centre, avec parking gratuit, pour 1 voiture par chambre...
et ça ne vaut "que" 105$/nuit plus taxes comme de juste !
Bien sur celui de North Charleston n'est qu'à 63$/nuit
A toi de voir avec le budget voté par tes instances financières !!😎😛😛

Savannah -> Charleston (2 nuits) avec arrêt à Beaufort pendant le trajet
Charleston -> Atlanta avec arrêt à Magnolia plantation avant d'attaquer la route

Mon agence doit voir si nous n'avons pas des frais au cas où nous annulerions les deux nuits à Atlanta, j'attends une réponse demain, et puis je dois voir ce que me coûtera l'hôtel sur Charleston + une journée supplémentaire de location de voiture.
Oui, ça me semble bien. Par contre, je n'ai pas fait la Magnolia Plantation, mais je te recommande Boone Hall, qui est vraiment magnifique, avec son allée de chênes centenaires. Il y a encore aussi des cabines d'esclaves. C'est très instructif...

Et avions vu beaucoup de publicités pour Magnolia, mais je ne sais plus pourquoi nous n'y sommes pas allés... Sans doute qu'il était trop tard... J'ai justement fait une boucle au départ d'Atlanta fin avril/début mai.
Avant d'arriver à Savannah nous avons 2 étapes :
- nous avons visité Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, le plus grand marécage des Etats-Unis, infesté d'alligators ! La ballade en bateau sur le Suwanee canal est à faire.
- nous avons passé 2 jours au bord de la mer à Saint Simons Island et Jekyll Island.
Nous avons dormi 2 nuits à Savannah et 3 nuits à Charleston. Entre les 2 villes nous avons visité Beaufort et poussé jusqu'à Hunting Island state park (à voir : un phare et une belle plage).
Nous avons visité Boone Hall plantation et Drayton Hall (Magnolia me semblait plus touristique...). Il faut savoir que les visites de l'intérieur des 2 maisons se font obligatoirement avec un guide. Mais dans les 2 cas, ils étaient relativement faciles à comprendre, contrairement au guide du bateau sur le canal !
Entre Charleston et Savannah, nous avons fait une pause déjeuner à Augusta et un arrêt à Madison, 2 petites villes sympathiques.
Entre Atlanta et Savannah, nous nous sommes arrêtés à Macon, charmante ville avec de belles maisons typiques. Hay house se visite mais était fermée le jour de notre passage.
Nous avons pris le parti de ne pas visiter Atlanta. Nous avons ensuite passé 4 nuits à New York.
Y a t il un interet particulier à faire le trajet Atlanta-Savanah-Miam... en voiture? Idem pour Miami- La Nouvelle Orlean... J'ai la possibilité de louer une…

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:

- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
