Tout d'abord, je reviens de mes dix jours en Californie. Je tiens a remercier tous ceux qui m'ont aide a preparer tout ca il y a quelques temps. Vos informations et conseils m'ont ete bien utile, et je ne manquerai pas d'aider d'autres forumeurs si j'en ai l'occasion.
Je compte maintenant me faire une bonne partie de la cote Est et de la Floride au mois de mai.
J'aimerais donc connaitre quels sont pour vous les villes, sites et parcs a voir absolument dans cette grande partie des Etats Unis, et surtout le temps necessaire.
Pour l'instant, j'ai une petite idee sur l'itineraire (en tres tres tres gros).
Je partirais le 11 mai de l'Oklahoma, direction Chicago (deux ou trois jours pour voir l'essentiel? Plus? Moins? Voiture ou pas?), puis chutes du Niagara (1 jour?), Boston, New York, Phila, Washington, Miami (Everglades et Key West), New Orleans. Retour a Oklahoma city le 2 juin au plus tard.
Je pense que l'avion entre Washington-Miami et Miami-New Orleans est quasi-obligatoire pour eviter de perdre trop de temps.
Le reste ca sera probablement en bus Greyhound.
La encore je ne sais pas vraiment combien de temps il me faut pour voir l'essentiel de chacune de ses villes. C'est la ou j'ai besoin de votre aide.
Autre chose, quelles coins se font a pied, et quels autres coins se font en voiture?
Par exemple a Miami je pense prendre une voiture et descendre vers le Sud pour les Everglades.
Je ne suis pas un expert non plus mais je peux peut-être t'aider.
J'vais te donner les distances entre chaque villes où tu vas aller. Attention c'est pas comme en Europe lol😉
Oklahoma et Chicago il y a 1, 200 kilomètres
Ensuite si tu veux aller voir les chutes Niagara en Ontario à partir de Chicago, il y a 800 kilomètres.
Ensuite direction Boston à partir des chutes Niagara il y a 600 kilomètres.
Ensuite de Boston à New York à Philadelphie et à Washington il y a 600 kilomètres, ça c'est pas trop pire ça se fait très bien.
Si tu veux aller voir les Everglades dans le bout de Miami à partir de New York il y a 2, 000 kilomètres
Une fois rendu à Miami t'as 1, 200 kilomètres à faire sur les autoroutes pour aller à Nouvelle Orléan.
Au total ça fait 5, 900 kilomètres à parcourir en 3 semaines. Là dessus tu vas surement vouloir rester par exemple un bon moment en Floride, à Miami pour en profiter un peu avant de repartir ou bien passer quelques jours à New York etc.
Le meilleur moyen serait de voyager nuit et jour et de dormir dans l'autobus parce que pour aller par exemple de
Oklahoma city à Chicago,
Ensuite on peut faire un scénario pour "estimer" le temps une fois là bas.
T'arrives en Oklahoma, tu dors là, le landemain matin TRÈS tôt tu parts pour Chicago direct (rendu au 2iem jour)
Tu voilà maintenant rendu à Chicago en plein millieu de la nuit donc pas la peine de te promener, tu dorts là. tu te réveille le landemain à Chicago (3iem jour maintenant.) Tu passes une journée pour te promener et repart le landemain pour les chutes niagara (5iem jour), il faut compter 1 jour y aller, encore une fois arrivé en plein millieu de la nuit même si t'es partit très tôt. Le landemain tu vas voir les chutes toute la journée en Ontario au Canada, tu dorts là et repart au petit matin pour Boston le 7iem jour. Arrivé le soir mais 600km se fait quand même bien. T'auras le temps de voir le soleil se coucher d'après moi.
Ensuite 2 nuits à Boston pour avoir une journée complète là bas (Sinon bon sens que tu vas rien voir du tout!)
Départ le 9iem jour pour New York, encore 2 nuits pour une journée complète dans la ville et on fou le camp le 11iem jour vers philadelphie, encore 2 nuits donc départ le 13iem jour pour Washington. On s'en va en Floride le matin du 15iem jour et on est déjà rendu à 2 semaine. Le temps de se rendre en Floride à Miami est excessivement long et étant donné qu'il y a pas mal plus à voir à Miami que dans certaines autres villes, je passerais les derniers temps là bas avant de repartir en France. Bref là il te reste environ 5 jours une fois à Miami avant de repartir.
Bref, j'te conseil de profiter le plus possible des endroits où tu vas aller, 3 semaines pour traverser un pays qui est l'équivalent de partir de Paris et d'aller au Libéria juste après le Sénégal en Afrique c'est pas beaucoup. Surtout que ces endroits là, t'as pas mal de choses à voir et même à l'intérieur des villes, les distances sont plus grandes.
Cependant je penses que t'aurais le temps d'en faire pas mal en 3 semaines. Encore là c'était juste une estimation pour te donner une idée, moi, personnellement je n'ai fait que de partir de Montréal pour aller à Miami, on dormait dans la voiture, on mangeait dans la voiture et ça nous a prit 30 heures sur l'autoroute. C'est long! Ouf...
Pour les distances oui je suis bien au courant, ayant pris la route pas mal de fois depuis que je suis aux Etats Unis.
Je precise d'ailleurs dans mon post que je prendrais surement l'avion entre Washington et Miami et egalement entre Miami et New Orleans (ainsi qu'entre New Orleans et OKC probablement, si je manque de temps).
Pour OKC-Chicago je pense que ca devrait le faire.
Je partirais en bus le 11 mai a 16h (depart de Norman, OK) pour arriver a Chicago a 9h le 12.
Le 12, 13, et 14 a Chicago. Depart le 14 a 17h, arrivee a Buffalo (NY) le 15 a 5h30 du mat (bus). Les chutes toute la matinee, je suis oblige de les voir du cote americain. Mon statut d'etudiant me permettant difficilement de passer la frontiere, je dois faire des demandes, de la paperasse et compagnie.
Depart a 16h, arrivee a Boston le lendemain, le 16 donc, a 8h du mat.
16 et 17 a Boston. Le 18 a 11h, depart vers New York. Arrivee a 15h30, aprem et soiree a NYC.
Les 19, 20, 21 a New York.
Le 22 au matin, en partance pour Philly a 11h, arrivee a 13h. Journee a Philly.
Le 23, depart pour Washington DC a 20h, arrivee a 23h, nuit a Washington.
Le 24, visite de Washigton.
Le 25 tot le matin, je prend l'avion pour Miami. Arrivee a Miami dans la journee.
26, 27, 28, 29 > Location de voiture, Miami, Everglades et Key West.
Le 30, avion pour la Nouvelle Orleans.
1 et 2 juin a NO.
Retour le 3 juin a Norman, Oklahoma.
Qu'en pensez vous? Est ce que je passe suffisamment de temps dans chacune des etapes pour pouvoir en profiter et voir ce qu'il y a a voir? Dois je supprimer des etapes? Si oui, lesquelles?

Washington peut valoir la peine, au moins pour aller voir la maison blanche. Philadelphie, lorsque nous étions partit de Montréal pour aller en Floride en vacance en famille on est passé par là... En fait, on est passé par l'autoroute et je me souviens que toute la famille on regardait à notre droite, tellement dégouté, déçu de voir quelque chose d'aussi laid. On aurait cru un dépotoir de métal rouillé sous un ciel nuageux. Bon sens cette image m'est resté gravé dans la mémoire tellement que c'était horrible.
Je ne suis pas rentré dans Philadelphie donc j'imagine qu'on est pas passé à la bonne place, ce serait comme être sur le périphérique de Paris et juger la ville au complet sans être entré dedans peut-être. Enfin bref.
Mais étant donné que quant à moi, lorsqu'on a vu une ville américaine, on les a toute vu, je crois que si tu manques de temps, élimine celle là avant les chutes du Niagara, au moins les chutes ça en vaut réellement la peine!
En général lorsque je visites une ville, je restes 2 nuits. Ce qui veut dire que je me lèves dans la ville et je dors dedans la nuit suivante. Ce qui me laisse une journée entière. À mon avis c'est assez si tu ne veux pas trop t'attarder sur un point en particulier mais voir la ville en général et de façon global.
Un autre conseil que je peux te donner, prend ton temps en Floride, là au moins il y a quelque chose à faire. Te faire un bon jus d'orange le matin cueillit dans la cour, Miami qui est quand même pas mal comme ville, la plage (Fait gaffe aux méduses dans l'eau et sur la plage lol)
Bref, là ça vaut un peu plus la peine de t'y attarder.
Je pense que Philly va passer a la trappe.
Ca me fait gagner une presque une journee. C'est pas grand chose mais c'est deja ca. Ca me permettra de rester un peu plus en Floride.

16 mai: Arrivee a Boston a 13h35. Visite
17 mai: Visite de Boston
18 mai: depart en bus vers New York a 12h. Arrivee a 16h30
19 mai: Visite de NYC
20 mai: Visite de NYC

Une petite question sur cette premiere partie de mon voyage: une journee entiere a Niagara Falls, n'est ce pas trop? Hormis les chutes, y a t-il des choses interessantes a voir dans cette ville? Est-il facile de passer la frontiere pour voir les chutes du cote canadien?
Ensuite, je devrais prendre l'avion le 22 de New York pour atterir a Miami.
La j'ai vraiment besoin de vos conseils.
J'ai beaucou lu sur internet et sur le forum, mais je n'arrive toujours pas a evaluer le nombre exacts de jours qu'il me faut pour voir ce que j'ai envie de voir. Je pense qu'on va louer une voiture des notre arrivee a Miami. J'aimerais visiter Miami, Miami Beach (avec minimum une longue apres midi baignade et glandage sur la plage. Deux ca serait le top). Je veux egalement voir les Everglades (un ami m'a dit qu'une journee etait suffisante pour faire la partie en petit train, et egalement pour faire un tour en airboat l'aprem. Qu'en pensez vous?).
Jusqu'ici je pense que ca nous fait trois jours (sans compter la journee du 22 qui devrait etre une journee typique: Aeroport-location de voiture-recherche de motel).
Premiere journee, le 23 mai: Visite de Miami le matin, plage a Miami beach l'aprem, soiree a Miami ou a Miami Beach.
24 mai: Visite Miami le matin, plage l'aprem, sortie ou resto le soir.
25 mai: Trajet Miami-Everglades le matin (une heure?), petit tour en mini train le matin, tour en airboat l'aprem. Si on finit tot, on prend la route vers Key Largo. Sinon on trouve un motel dans le coin, et on prend la route vers Key Largo le lendemain matin.
En parlant de Key Largo, est ce que ca vaut vraiment le coup de s'y arreter, sachant qu'on va continuer la route des Keys jusqu'a Key West? Si oui, combien de temps y rester? Une journee entiere? Une Matinee? Quel est le meilleur coin pour faire de la plongee si vous deviez choisir entre Key Largo et Key West?
Reprenons, meme si c'est assez flou pour moi:
26 mai: Key Largo. Plongee? Que voir? Que faire? Nuit a Key Largo.
27 mai: Key West. Idem, plongee? Activites? Nuit a Key West.
28 mai: Retour a Miami pour prendre l'avion pour la Nouvelle Orleans.

31 mai: Depart en bus pour OKC a 19h

Avec ce programme, j'ai un jour de rabe. En effet, je prend l'avion OKC-Paris le 3 juin. Il me faut donc etre dans le coin le 2 juin au soir (et non le premier juin, comme indiquer sur le programme ci dessus).
Selon vous, ou dois je caser cette journee supplementaire? Une journee de plus a New York? A New Orleans? En Floride (ou? pour voir quoi?) ? Un autre endroit en cours de route et que je n'ai pas mentionne (pa ignorance probablement). Toutes les suggestions sont bienvenue!

Niagara Falls, du côté américain, oublie, cela ne vaut pas la peine. Si tu veux voir les chutes, il faut que tu ailles du côté canadien. Je sauterais également Philadephie.

Circuit classique : arrivée à Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, île de Vancouver, départ de Vancouver.
Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?
Nous hésitons en effet à tenter le coup ou à annuler ce qui peut encore l'être.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

Just a few last questions to wrap up our Lake Tahoe visit plans.
**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?
Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. For those who’ve done both Lower and Upper, can you tell me if the price difference is really justified? Thanks

As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.
Everything’s booked for September—flights, accommodations, and the car. As I plan, I’ll be asking the experts for help. This is our second trip to California, but most of the stops are new to us.

For hikes in Lassen Volcanic Park, I’ve planned:
Bumpass Hell, Cold Boiling Lake (Day 2)
Paradise Meadow (maybe not going all the way), Devastated Area, and the loop around Reflection and Manzanita Lakes (Day 3)
Cinder Cone and Painted Dunes (Day 4)
Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.
