Jour 5: route 66 dormir a Williams
Jour 6: Grand Canyon
Jour 7: Lac Powell et ses alentour dormir à Pages
Jour 8: Bryce Canyon
Jour 9: Zion et arriver en soirée a Las Vagas
Jour 10: visite de Las Vegas
Jour 11: Death Valley
Jour 12: Yosemite
Jour 13: visite et ballade de Yosemite

Jour 16 et 17: visite de San Francisco
Jour 17 et 18: CA 1 direction Los Angeles

Pour ma part, je trouve dommage de ne pas pousser jusqu'à Monument Valley, même si cela représente quelques heures de route en plus. 😛
En venant de Los Angeles, vous pourriez directement pousser jusqu'au Grand Canyon pour le coucher de soleil, y dormir, visiter le lendemain matin, puis faire les 3 heures de route (à peine) pour Monument Valley. Nuit là-bas, puis le lendemain matin, un peu moins de 3 heures de route pour Page... Ce n'est pas impossible à faire du tout, et vous serez déjà allés si loin, et vous serez si près, que ce serait dommage de ne pas aller voir ce paysage mythique.
Je suggérerais même qu'après une première nuit à LA, vous preniez directement la route pour les parcs, pour profiter du décalage horaire qui jouera en votre faveur. Vous pourrez visiter Los Angeles à volonté après tout le circuit, et sans la fatigue du décalage.
N'oubliez pas non plus que vous n'êtes pas obligés de faire une boucle et d'arriver et repartir du même aéroport... 😉 Vous pourriez par exemple arriver à Las Vegas et repartir de Los Angeles. (il faut cocher la case multidestination sur les moteurs de recherche de billets d'avion).

Le jour 2, il faudrait pousser directement jusqu'au Grand Canyon, pour y passer la nuit. En partant tôt de Los Angeles (avec le décalage horaire, vous devriez être debouts à 5 heures du matin !), vous éviterez les bouchons et vous pourrez être au Grand Canyon en milieu/fin d'après-midi après quelques arrêts route 66.
Le jour 3, vous pouvez visiter le Grand Canyon jusque 13h/14h, puis prendre la route pour Monument Valley. Dormir sur place.
Le jour 4, route vers Page, visite des alentours (Horseshoebend, Lake Powell, Lee's Ferry...). Nuit à Page.
Le jour 5, visite d'Antelope Canyon (à Page), puis route vers Bryce. Nuit à Bryce.
Le jour 6. Visite de Bryce, et en milieu/fin d'après-midi : route vers Las Vegas
Je ne suis pas spécialiste de l'enchaînement Death Valley - Yosemite car je ne l'ai jamais fait. J'espère que d'autres personnes interviendront car je sais qu'il y a des subtilités au niveau des routes et étapes à faire !

comme l'a dit Virginath, ça ne vous coûterait pas plus cher de prendre un col Multidestination (ie arriver et repartir de 2 villes différentes) et ça vous allégerait le circuit ! (par ex dans votre dernière version : la très longue route entre LA et le Grand Canyon 😕... et en l'état, vous n'aurez pas beaucoup de temps pour visiter le Grand Canyon...)... donc pourquoi ne pas partir de Phoenix (4h de route pour aller au Grand Canyon) et revenir de LA ?

Il faudrait maintenant affiner les etapes, en les presentant sous la forme :
Etape du matin -> Trajet et durée de route de la journée -> Arrets et visites -> Etape du soir
- Vs vs rendrez compte alors si il y a des journées trop chargées .
Ainsi à mon avis, les jours 5 6 et 9 sont trop chargés.
Enfin, sans vouloir nier l'interet du parc, pourquoi vouloir aller à Disneyland LA . Je sais que ce n'est pas le même que celui de Marne la vallée, mais ne pas y aller vs libererait un jour pour d'autres choses dans l'ouest.
Pour la route 66, vous pourriez atterrir à Las Vegas, et la faire jusqu'au Grand Canyon. Ca résoudrait une partie du problème. 😉
Pour Bagdad Café, c'est entre LA et Las Vegas, donc plus embêtant. Ou alors vous pourriez faire deux visites à Las Vegas : une à l'aller (Los Angeles-Las Vegas), et une autre après le tour des parcs. Mais il faudrait soit rajouter un jour soit supprimer autre chose. Pour ma part, n'étant pas une grande fan de Yosemite, je sais que je prendrais un vol intérieur entre Las Vegas et San Francisco (ils sont très bon marché, environ 50 euros par personne), pour m'éviter de la route et être plus relax ailleurs. Car je sais que vous tenez à Disneyland et à une certaine Céline à Las Vegas. 😛

Je connais bien Eddy et Stéphane, qui sont de charmants commerçants de ma petite ville, et figure-toi que ce sont des "convertis" : ils rêvent depuis longtemps de l'Ouest et étaient sur le point de réserver un voyage par TO. J'ai réussi à les convaincre de se lancer dans la grande aventure du voyage concocté par leurs soins... avec l'aide des conseils du forum. 🙂
Comme je pars demain pour New York, je ne pourrai plus trop les aider pendant quelques jours, mais j'espère que vous serez au rendez-vous s'ils ont des questions ! Je leur ai tellement vanté les mérites de notre forum !

😕... la route 66 (enfin ce qu'il en reste), ce n'est pas ce qui m'a vraiment passionnée...

sur 19 jours, il va falloir faire quelques choix car il est difficile de "tout" voir, même si la tentation est grande pour un 1er voyage dans l'Ouest 😉
attention, à ne pas transformer ce circuit en marathon dans la voiture (même si rouler aux USA, c'est sympa ! bien + qu'en Belgique 😛)...
il faut aussi se laisser un peu de temps pour visiter (même si on n'est pas adepte des randos de 5h !) 🙂...
il y a plusieurs choix :
- zapper Bagdad Cafe la route 66 (mon choix perso, mais c'est votre voyage, donc à vous de placer les priorités)
- zapper la côte entre SFO et LA (risque de brouillard)
- zapper Yosemite et prendre un vol intérieur entre Las Vegas et San Francisco
- rajouter qq jours 😉

Pourriez vouos me dire si il est facile de trouver des vols internes Los angeles las Vegas si oui ce serait pour le 19 aout 2012 a quelle moment on doit le réserver car pour l'instant il son horriblement cher.

en fonction de vos impératifs, (dates)
et des prix...
Pour le billet d'avion :
Pour surveiller l'évolution des tarifs des billets d'avion,
il est bon de créer dès maintenant plusieurs alertes (sur Liligo par ex)
avec les différentes possibilités :
Paris -LAX (aller-retour)
Paris - SFO (aller-retour)
Paris - LAS (aller-retour) et puis toutes les combinaisons possible avec les multi-destinations...😇
Parfois les promos sont intéressantes pour SFO 😎
(ce n'est pas parce que c'est le plus loin que ce sera forcément le plus cher... hé oui ! 😉)
En plus il faut rajouter les compagnies Low-cost qui ne sont pas prises en compte dans les moteurs de recherche...
C'est du boulot, mais une fois les alertes lancées, c'est beaucoup plus facile de voir l'évolution,
et de sauter sur la bonne occasion qui se présente (souvent sur une seule journée!)

tout à fait d'accord, Bagad café c'est un vieil endroit sans charme. Je m'arrêterais plutôt à Seligman pour un court arrêt sur la route.

Ok il y a 1 an on n'a rien vu de la côte entre Big sur et SFO alors qu'à qq miles en dehors de la côte il y avait plein soleil.
zapper Yosemite et prendre un vol intérieur entre Las Vegas et San Francisco
ce serait dommage de ne pas aller au yosemite car ça combine bien le voyage entre un endroit plus "vert" par rapport aux endroits "rouge" de l'utah et arizona. A condition de ne pas y être le week end (foule énorme).

il ne s'agit pas tant d'un circuit qui trouve grâce à nos yeux,
mais de trouver un circuit qui vous plaise à vous ! 😎
tout en évitant des erreurs "de base" :
l'investissement en temps, argent, et personnel aussi,
mérite, autant que possible d'éviter ça :

nous montrent que parfois un timing peut faire toute la différence pour un même site :
surtout au mois d'août, qui accumule le problème de la température (élevée)
et de la fréquentation des sites (élevée) :
c'est un cocktail qui peut venir à bout des meilleurs volontés ! 🤪
Une dernière petite mise en garde:
Qd on prépare son itinéraire, on se rend compte q'il est vraiment difficile de faire rentrer ds le planning ttes les visites qu'on voudrait faire
(je crois que tout qui prépare un voyage ds l'ouest américain est confronté à ce problème...)
Alors, plutôt que de devoir éliminer certaines étapes du voyage, on a tendance à se dire:
ce n'est pas grave....
il suffira de se lever tôt et de se coucher tard pour pouvoir profiter à fond et faire ainsi des journées bien remplies...
Le souci, c'est que ce qui semble possible sur papier, ne l'est plus ds la réalité...
Une fois arrivé sur place, alors qu'on est très motivé les 1ers jours du voyage...
et qu'on arrive donc à se lever tôt, il n'en est plus du tout de même au fur et à mesure que les jours passent...
En effet , à cause du rythme soutenu du voyage, la fatigue s'installe très vite...
et déjà la 2ème semaine, on n'arrive plus à se lever aux aurores...
Quant à la 3ème semaine.... 🤪
prendre un vol LA --> Las Vegas n'est pas très intéressant... le trajet en voiture se fait en ~4h... vu le temps qu'on perd aux aéroports (arrivée un peu à l'avance, enregistrement, attente, vol, récupération des bagages...), ça ne sera pas un super gain de temps...
pouvez vous nous donner vos dates ? et votre impératif de date pour le concert de Céline ?
et ce que vous voulez absolument voir ? (et ce que vous pourriez zapper ?)

Voila nous avons légèrement modifié notre itinéraire et avancé nos dates pour résoudre certain problèmes de temps. Nous avons calculer nos temps de route et le temps estimé sur les sites pour les visites que nous envisageons, en moyenne d'après Googlemap nous avons entre 3:30 et un max de 6:00 de route. Voila je vous le dévoile j'espère qu'il tiens la route, nous avons tenu compte de vos conseils et de nos envies bien sur.
Dorénavant nous partons du 18 aout au 7 septembre.

1 pour las Vegas nous avons regarder les prix et les hotel ne sont encore trop excessif et je préfère arriver a Yosemite en semaine
Pour SF LO nous lavions mis au départ en deux jour mais plusieurs personne nous le déconseillais donc j'ai opter pour une journée relax en 20 pour mieux repartir qui plus je tien absolument a pourvoir me baigner dans l'océan nager c'est ma passion.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

There are several attractions along the way:

- Joshua Tree National Park

- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
