Should we book airport-hotel and Krabi-Ko Phi Phi trips in advance?

Hi there, I’m arriving in Thailand with my family on February 9th (2026). We land at BKK that day and then take a direct flight to Krabi.

My first little question is this: We’ve booked a hotel 4 km from the airport (B2Krabi). Should I reserve a taxi through an app (which one?) to get there, or do you think I’ll easily find a taxi/tuk-tuk on the spot, considering we’ll arrive around 8/9 PM? Any idea of the expected price (for three people) for this short trip?

For the Krabi/Ko Phi Phi route, I’m not entirely sure where the departure point is—I’ve attached a photo of the map. Which company is the most affordable? Do you think I can buy my ticket the day before departure and still be sure to get seats? Is it better to book in advance (and if so, on which site)? Same question for the return trip from Ko Phi Phi to Krabi!

Hi, Since yesterday no one has rushed to answer you, but I think I understand why: you're worrying way too much and unnecessarily. I don’t know this area at all because beach resorts aren’t my thing, but I can still reassure you: you’ll be in Thailand, and what’s more, in a very touristy area, so stop worrying, relax—everything will be fine. Your questions will sort themselves out once you’re there.

Hey, Couldn’t agree more. I’ve never been to Thailand, but it’s not a question I’ve ever asked myself anywhere I’ve traveled, and I won’t be asking it when I go either. You won’t be the first person to arrive at the airport and want to leave—you’ll definitely find options on the spot. And for leaving Krabi, just ask your hotel for the best solution.

There are taxis, tuk-tuks, and scheduled transport to get to Krabi when you leave the airport. The price won’t break the bank—I honestly can’t remember how much it was for that very reason... You’ll find plenty of agencies selling boat tickets to Phi Phi, even the day before. Just plan ahead, but don’t stress!

4 km from the airport puts you 15 km from the coast—it’s not very convenient for getting to the islands... No worries, though! There are shared vans and public pick-ups that serve several hotels. They’ll ask for yours and drop you off at the right one. From your hotel, ask for a taxi to the pier for Ko Phi Phi, since there are multiple piers, each serving different islands. You can buy your ticket on the spot without any issues—same for the return trip... But it might be a good idea to stay closer to the coast. Krabi is really spread out. And don’t forget to visit the mangrove... and other islands that are way more interesting than Phi Phi, which reeks of diesel (300 boats dock there every day). Happy travels!

Thanks for the reply. I’ve already been to Thailand fifteen years ago, backpacking with no real itinerary for six weeks, but I wasn’t traveling with kids then! I know in theory everything should be easy, but with kids I can’t just let them sleep anywhere or anyhow. Plus, I’ve always received great tips from this forum, so thanks!

I came to Krabi for 5/6 days 15 years ago, and my partner and I really fell in love with it. We're heading to Phi Phi because I've already visited all the islands on the east coast, and even though I know what to expect from Phi Phi, I still want to see it. For the rest of the trip, we'll be staying 10 days in Ao Nang because we want to explore and extend our visits inland while still enjoying the area. We'll finish with the best part: 8 days in Chiang Mai! !
