Bonjour à tous , je suis à la recherche d'un hôtel bon marché du côté de l'ambassade de France (Makati) à Manille...
auriez vous des bon plans à me proposer? merci à tous...

Moins de 2000 pesos...
Citadel inn, burgos street. C'est le premier hotel où j'ai couché aux Philippines, il y a .... 15 ans. 5 minutes à pied de l'ambassade. Peut être un peu bruyant. Aux alentours de 2000/nuit
Moonlight hotel burgos street. C'est en plein coeur du quartier chaud donc peut être un peu bruyant. 1200/1500 / nuit
Il y a(vait) un petit hotel derrière le cimetière sud, à 10/15 minutes de l'ambassade à pied. Très calme avec des grandes chambres et une petite piscine, pas trop cher. Mais impossible de retrouver le nom... Si je me souviens bien, c'était sur Kalayaan avenue. La propriétaire est (était) la veuve du chief of staff de l'armée des Philippines. Il devait être dans le lonely planet.
L'hotel Durban devrait te convenir, dans une petite rue entre Burgos et Makati av, P1500 la nuit

Je prépare un séjour d'un mois aux Philippines en septembre, et ai vu, lors de mes nombreuses lectures sur VF, que tu étais assez actif sur le forum.
En faisant ce matin une recherche d'hôtel je suis tombée sur "hôtel Durban", et en faisant une recherche par mot-clef sur VF, je suis également tombée sur un de tes posts dans lequel tu en parlais, alors je me permets de t'interpeller en direct.
J'arrive le 1er septembre à Manille, et repars directement le lendemain pour rejoindre Palawan. Je suis donc à la recherche d'un hôtel pour une nuit, à moins de 25E, qui soit propre, et dans un quartier "sécure" .J'arrive en début d'après-midi à Manille et repars le lendemain en début d'après-midi, donc j'aimerais quand même un endroit où je puisse me balader, manger un morceau, sans avoir à me poser trop de questions. Pour être honnête, ce petit passage par manille à l'arrivée ne m'enchante pas vraiment, je ne suis jamais super à l'aise dans les capitales, je préfére les petits coins tranquilles (en fait, ce que j'appréhende le plus sur un mois de voyage, c'est le trajet aéroport- 1er hôtel, c'est bête non ?)
Au départ, j'avais visé la Pension Natividad, à Malate, puis je me suis dit que peut-être, Makati pouvait être plus indiqué, et en particulier cet hôtel, le Durban (site nickel, je leur ai envoyé un mail et m'ont répondu de suite en plus) car moins loin de l'aéroport et peut-être aussi plus "sécure" : peux-tu me donner ton avis sur la question ? Sur le net, j'ai lu que c'était situé dans "le quartier rouge de Makati" ... moui mais bon, quel genre ? (je voyage seule)
J'ai cru comprendre que le trajet aéroport-hotel me couterait plus ou moins 300 pesos, peux-tu me le confirmer, et également me confirmer qu'il vaut mieux prendre les taxis jaunes que les blancs ?
Je ne suis pas spécialement "flippée" de nature et ce n'est pas mon 1er voyage seule (ceci dit, ce n'est pas le quinzième non plus !), mais j'aimerais tout de même préparer ma petite escale à Manille...

Bonjour, Laurence je me permet de répondre car je viens de faire ce trajet récemment (je suis actuellement sur Palawan) Concernant les taxis ne pas prendreles jaunes , ils m'ont demandé 750 Pesos choisir un taxi blanc et lui demander d'emprunter le skyway (voie rapide) rajouter 20 pesos mais le gain est substanciel car la course ne m'a couté que 250 pesos pour aller à l'hotel Durban; Hotel très calme et quartier plutôt sympa même si l'aspect "Pigalle"(il ya une boite nommée Moulin Rouge tout près😉) attire e nombreuses prostituées..Service d'hotel impeccable petit dej à 100Pesos, donc un bon plan pour une escale ...

Oula, 750 pesos en taxi jaune !....bon, bein vais prendre un blanc alors, ils ont des metter aussi ou tu négocies avant de monter ? (ça commence à me prendre la tête ces histoires de taxi, je crois que je me pose trop de questions !😉😊) et ils ne sont pas trop loin de l'aéroport ? (j'ai lu que pour prendre les taxis les moins cher, fallait traverser une route etc...)
Bon, tu me confirmes que l'hôtel est bien, c'est déjà ça, et pas de problèmes pour les copines autour😛, ça sera "couleur locale", tant qu'il n'y a pas de soucis envers ma petite personne rien ne me dérange.

Ah j'oubliais, dernière petite question : hier encore une personne me confirmait que le change à l'aéroport était pas terrible, y-a-t-il à ta connaissance un endroit où en faire à un taux correct à côté du Durban ?

Pour 750 t'as une limousine...Je paye environ 300 p le taxi...Pour Ermita-Malate! Pour Makati ils demandent la meme chose (hors taxi-meter)!
De l'airport tu paieras toujours plus cher, un forfait de 300p !

Pour te répondre au sujet des taxis c'est vrai qu'il faut batailler et sortir de l'aéroport est une bonne solution ...Pour le change il y a un money changer juste derrière l'hotel Durban pas trop cher et pour la météo sur Palawan: extra soleil epuis que je suis arrivé alors qu'il est tombé des trombes d'eau a chaque fois que j'étais à Manille ici 25° au petit jours et 35 à 38 dans la journée par contre pour la baignade (suis à Port Barton) j'ai du modérer mes ardeurs suite à une rencontre avec une Salabay ( méduse) bien méchante ...Demain je pars snorkeller dans les iles avoisinantes qui sont exemptes de toute méduse... Merci pour tes voeux de voyage , mais maintenant je ne bouge plus, suis installé sur Port Barton , mais bon voyage à toi...😉

Je n'y connais rien en méduse mais il me semble que c'est une violette , je ne sais pas la taille mais assez grosse pour me choper les deux jambes je me suis trouvé mal à un moment l'eau n'était pas claire et je ne l'ai pas vue , les méduses sont saisonnières ici il parait donc eviter de se baigner ne cmoment sur Port Barton est raisonnable, l'eau est très claire en dehors de Port Barton mais je vais éviter la baignade dnas les parages pour un temps
Les taxis sont vraiment galère à Manille.
Quand tu arrives, le plus simple est de prendre un taxi à l'aéroport. C'est un peu plus cher (peut être 2 euros de plus) mais tu n'as pas à marcher 500 mètres avec tes bagages, attendre qu'un taxi arrive, discuter pendant 5 minutes pour qu'il mette son meter en route, puis partir et t'apercevoir au bout d'un km que le meter n'est pas en marche, discuter encore 5 minutes avec le chauffeur, descendre du taxi car il ne veut vraiment pas mettre son meter, t'engueuler avec le chauffeur car il veut que tu payes pour 1 km. Et recommencer avec le taxi suivant...
Un taxi aéroport-makati devrait te couter 200 à 300 pesos. S'il te demande plus, ya arnaque. C'est un forfait, quelque soit ta destination à Makati, donc pas de meter.

Ermita-Malate est plus loin que Makati, oui, le skyway(autoroute rapide)est bien,20 pesos en plus...Mais pour Makati, je ne pense pas que le skyway soit nécéssaire, vu que c'est a coté de l'airport (12km)!Ils te propose a l'airport des limousines pour 750 pesos, c'est vrai!

Pffff....batailler après 14 heures de vol😕...je crois donc que je verrai sur place, en fonction de mon humeur, si je décide de choisir la simplicité et de payer le prix fort, ou, si je suis en forme et prête à l'attaque😛, d'aller à la recherche d'un taxi moins cher un peu plus loin...

A Palawan, j'en ai vu 2X, les brunes ne sont pas urticantes, plutot les transparentes...Il suffit de ne pas se baigner quand elles sont la, les bangkéros

oui quand je parlais "eaux troubles", je voulais dire que j'avais lu des récits qui racontaient que la mer pouvait l'être ponctuellement, après une trés forte pluie et/ou une tempête par exemple : logique que ça remue un peu !😛

Alors pour ce qui est des taxis à l'aéroport, il y en a deux sortes, les jaunes avec un taximètre, je n'ai jamais eu aucun problème avec eux, et il y a des blancs qui eux sont avec un prix forfaitaires non discutable et non négociable.
Il y a juste le problème que tout les taxis jaunes sont quasi aux terminaux 1 et 2, il n'y en a pas beaucoup au 3.
De toutes façons, attends-toi à avoir des problèmes avec les taxis de la ville pour aller à l'aéroport le lendemain. Très difficile d'obtenir le taximètre. Des philippins m'ont dit que cela était valable pour toute personne qui va à l'aéroport, étranger et philippins, car les chauffeurs considèrent que si tu vas prendre un avion, tu es riche. Le conseil qui m'a été donné, c'est de prendre un taxi de la ville avec un chauffeur âgé, les jeunes, c'est foireux.

Whaa, chouette plan, le coup de la petite piscine avec un petit patio (où on peut fumer sa clope tranquille, disent-t-ils sur leur site...oui je sais mais bon...)
Je me suis donc empressée de leur envoyer un mail pour voir le prix TTC d'une chambre et savoir si ils avaient des dispos : message d'erreur, adresse mail (trouvée sur leur site évidemment) obsolète.
Leur ai donc envoyé un fax : numéro non attribué, ZUT alors !
Reste le téléphone, mais ça va me coûter bonbon d'ici (et puis avec mon anglais approximatif😊...), à moins que je tente un skype...
donc je tente au cas où : quelqu'un aurait-il un autre contact mail que robelle.house@yahoo.com ?
sinon, pas grave, je resterai sur le durban, qui semble trés bien aussi !

Hi there,
I’ve found so many tips and reviews on this forum, so it’s my turn to contribute a little.
We spent just over two weeks with our family, with the following itinerary:
- Hanoi: 5 days
- Halong Bay: 3 days and 2 nights
- Tam Coc: 3 days
- Mai Chau: 2 days
- Sapa: 3 days
We got around by bike, scooter, Grab, and bus.
Our main accommodations were homestays and hotels in Hanoi.
We visited lots of museums, temples, and neighborhoods in Hanoi.
We did a 2-day, 1-night trek in Sapa with May, a Hmong local, without going through an agency.
A few small regrets: the weather was overcast, and we couldn’t make it to Fansipan, but nothing major 😅. We also couldn’t find transport to get from Sapa to Mu Cang Chai.
Other than that, this trip will stay in our memories for the kindness of the Vietnamese people, the connections we made, the food (street food, homestays...), the coffee 😋, the landscapes, and how easy it was to get around...
Our goal was to take our time and focus only on a small part of northern Vietnam.
If you need any tips or recommendations, don’t hesitate to ask.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before: - Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees. Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands. Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way). Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan. Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide). Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre. Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island. Day 10 – Head to Semporna. Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai. Day 15 – Bohey Dulang. Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous. I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing. I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture. But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary. If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.

For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. Sandakan → Sepilok: No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??
Sandakan → Semporna: From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄). Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM. Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?
Semporna → Tawau: Found this via AI—is it legit? No online booking, as far as I can tell. Minivans leave from a stop in the Jalan Hospital area, near the Milimewa supermarket, supposedly???? And when you arrive, does it drop you at **Sabindo Square** in Tawau?????
