My friend and I are arriving in New Delhi on March 4th at 12:05 AM. Could anyone recommend a decent and affordable hotel? Is 20 € the going rate? Thanks!

Hi there,

The best bet is to head to Paharganj, which is the backpacker district where you’ll find budget hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. Prices vary quite a bit depending on the hotel’s quality, but you can find perfectly decent rooms for 2000 rupees (22 €), or even less. It also depends on the level of comfort you’re looking for. In Paharganj, the Vivek has simple, air-conditioned rooms (if needed) and they’re quite comfortable starting at 15 €, with slightly higher prices for more comfort. But there are dozens of other hotels on the same street, Main Bazar, ranging from very basic to much more comfortable.

Hi Pagal,

Thanks for your tips! I checked out the PAHARGANJ area—it’s definitely a dive right into the heart of India 😊. I’ll look into booking something—it’s great! Have a lovely evening

Just a heads-up, Paharganj isn't a city but a super central neighborhood in New Delhi, right next to the main train station and Connaught Place. It's served by two metro lines and really close to Old Delhi too. It's chaotic but reassuring at the same time because it's mostly travelers, and you can find everything you might need: good exchange rates, hotels, restaurants, booking agencies, clothing shops, pharmacies, etc...

Hi Pagal

Booked at Hôtel Chanchal Continental, 3 stars. From 47 € with the January-to-April deal plus the 10% off with Booking, it comes out to 15 € per night. We’ve got a driver lined up. Yeah, I saw it’s a lively neighborhood 😊—we’ll adapt.

Hi, thanks for flagging this hotel with great prices! Does it live up to the hype? How’s the cleanliness? Is it noisy? I noticed not all rooms have windows... Thanks for your feedback! !

Hi, I know you’ve already found accommodation, but here’s another address that might come in handy (you can never have too many options!) We’ve stayed at this hotel several years in a row: Hotel SB Inn, in Pahar Ganj, 1,750 INR for a comfortable room. The hotel’s been completely renovated (last time was February 2024). Anne

Sure enough, I stayed a whole month (yes!) at SB Inn in 2014 and was really happy with it. Plus, I think when you're in Paharganj, it's better to stay on Main Bazar or very close by.

Hi

I’ll definitely give you an update—it’s always interesting. Even if there’s no window, it’s not a problem as long as it’s clean and we sleep well.😊

The Blue Pearl, which includes airport transfer (if there's no one, call them via WhatsApp or take a taxi—they'll pay), is good. Once there, try to negotiate the room for 2000 rupees.
