Hi everyone, I’m heading to Corsica for 12 days: - One week in Ajaccio - One week in Porto-Vecchio I’m renting a car at Ajaccio airport. Any special visit ideas? Thanks

Hi there,

It’d be great to know what you’re into—what naturally draws you when you travel or explore, no matter the place? And most of all, what motivated your choice of Corsica? And these two specific stops?!

Hi Alain, Not knowing which route you’ll take, here’s a visit idea between Ajaccio and Propriano: the village of Fozzano, which inspired Prosper Mérimée for his book *Colomba*—there’s a beautiful church with frescoes. Why not stop in Sartène to enjoy a Petra beer made with chestnut flour or an immortelle beer… (This isn’t an invitation to get drunk, far from it!) Everything is beautiful in Corsica—you’ll surely be amazed if you want to get away from the crowded beaches… Have a great holiday! !

1) the beaches 2) visit monuments

I travel a lot in Asia, a bit tired. Corsica = mountains, villages, and the sea are big draws to check out, and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed…

Hi there,

Too bad you didn’t mention when you’ll be staying in Southern Corsica! Here are a few day-trip suggestions from Ajaccio:

= A long day with multiple points of interest: Head north from Ajaccio toward Sagone. --From Sagone, take the mountain road to Vico, then Evisa. --From Evisa, descend the Spelunca Gorges toward Porto. --From Porto, follow the coast to Piana, then Cargèse and Sagone. Each of the towns mentioned has its own attractions. I’ll let you look them up in a guide or online to find what suits your taste.

= A mountain day From Ajaccio, head toward Bastia via Bocognano, the Vizzavona Pass (1100m), then Vivario, Venaco, and Corte in the heart of Corsica. Return the same way.

= A quieter day: the Ajaccio Gulf tour: Go to the Pointe des Sanguinaires, the northernmost point of the Ajaccio Gulf. Best done at the end of the day before sunset. Otherwise, in the morning, head to Porticcio on the southern shore as far as Coti Chiavari, where you can take in the whole Ajaccio Gulf.

I can keep going if you’re interested in my first suggestions!!

Advice, To prepare for a trip like yours in Southern Corsica, you should get a road map of Corsica (Michelin, IGN, etc.) and pin it up on a wall—unfolded—long before you leave. This way, you can soak in the routes you want to take and locate all the tips people will share with you.

Don’t forget: We’re ALL different. Our tastes and expectations for a vacation are just as varied (no matter the destination). That’s why there’s no such thing as "must-see"!

Everything is beautiful in Corsica—you won’t fail to be amazed if you want to get away from the crowded beaches..

Hello, I hope you won’t hold it against me too much if I slightly nuance your "everything is beautiful in Corsica." There are naturally beautiful landscapes, if you don’t look at your feet or the roadsides while traveling through them. Corsica is dirty. You’ll find all kinds of trash—"forgotten" or tossed—on the beaches, along hiking trails, and by the roads. Among other things, an unbelievable amount of cigarette butts, cans, and bottles...!!

Best regards, Puma2A

hey Puma, is the island really that dirty? I don’t get why the locals aren’t doing anything to preserve the environment—it’s kinda disappointing 🏴‍☠️

Hi there, It seems like this is a classic Mediterranean thing... right? I’ve heard it’s even worse in Sardinia (I’ve never been there). On the other hand, I’ve noticed that the roadsides in Malta are also really dirty.

As for Corsica, I see this every day between my home and Ajaccio (and elsewhere).

Except—here’s the weird part—this morning specifically, we witnessed a major roadside cleanup around Ajaccio by the Corsican Territorial Collectivity services. It’s the first time we’ve ever seen this!

I have to say, the amount they collected was impressive... but don’t get your hopes up about the state of those roadsides in a week!!
