suite à mon post concernant les risques de séjourner à Bali en ce moment à cause des attentats, les réponses confirment ce que je pensais à savoir que la situation n'est pas alarmante et ne mérite pas que je reporte ce voyage.
donc voilà, certains ont l'air de bien connaître le pays et pourraient m'aider à préparer mon voyage.
pour préciser les choses, je pars avec mon ami (nous avons 26 et 28 ans).
on voudrait réserver un vol sec et louer une voiture sur place pour visiter à notre rythme chaque coin intéressant de Bali en séjournant dans des hôtels de charmechambres d'hôtes, ou hôtels (avec wc salle de bain impérativement) aux 4 coins du territoire pendant 2 semaines.
nos attentes sont : jolies plages pas trop peuplées (desertes ce serait mieux, mais bon!), randonnées dans la nature, et visites de villages ou autres sites intéressants.
et surtout : prendre notre temps !
pensez vous qu'il s'agisse d'un bon plan d'après la connaissance que vous avez de Bali ?
avez vous des conseils à nous donner ?
quel est le coin le plus joli ?
connaissez vous des hôtels sympas?
le trajet n'est il pas trop difficile, avez vous trouvé des billet à moins de 800 € par personne ?

J'y suis allée pour la première fois il y a 3 ans au mois de septembre, toute seule. J'y ai séjourné 15 jours (ce qui est très court...). J'ai trouvé un vol pour 738€ (je rappelle que c'était il y a 3 ans) au départ de paris avec escale à bangkok sur lastminute (réservé au mois de juin)...le tout en 18h de trajet.
Durant ce laps de temps j'ai passé quelque jours dans le sud de l'île. Contrairement à beaucoup d'avis les plages qui s'étendent de seminyak à kuta ne m'ont pas déplu. certes on y croise des surfeurs et des touristes mais aussi des indonésiens en famille: le soir au coucher du soleil surtout. Je n'y ai pas non plus senti la pression des vendeurs ambulants etc... A faire ou à voir dans le coin le temple d'uluwatu, la plage de dreamland, diner sur la plage de jimbaran, du shopping (à préciser que je suis jeune : 24 ans à l'époque et je voyageais seule...donc l'animation qui pouvait y régner ne me dérangeait pas plus que ça)
Ensuite je suis partie pour Ubud dont les environs sont ultra photogéniques. Tu peux visiter en scooter, mais tu peux aussi louer les services d'un chauffeur ou même (en cherchant un peu) te faire des descentes en vtt. Tu peux aussi t'adonner au rafting il me semble.
C'est un coin très vert de l'île avec de belles rizières ; s'y concentrent aussi beaucoup d'artistes et "d'événements" culturels (spectacle de danse, cours de cuisine etc). C'est une région où l'on se sent de suite à l'aise en arrivant...tout y est zen (enfin c'est comme ça que je l'ai ressenti)
Après j'ai continué vers le nord en passant par bedugul et son marché, puis le temple ulun danu sur le lac. Encore de chouets paysages plus en altitude
L'étape suivante a été Pemuteran...pas grand chose à dire?. C'est trèèèèèès calme (ce qui peut avoir son charme); il paraît que plonger autour de pulau menjangan est un must
Puis retour vers le sud en longeant la côte ouest. Arrêt à Tanah lot. beaucoup s'y entassent le soir pour voir le site au coucher du soleil. de jour aussi c'est très sympa avec beaucoup moins de monde
Le lendemain je suis partie sur nusa lembongan. une ile réputée pour sa culture d'algues. sympa et relax
Des hôtels tu en trouves à la pelle à bali et pour toutes les bourses. Sur asiarooms tu peux trouver de bonnes promo. Hors saison pas besoin de réserver. Ca te permet de négocier les tarifs, de voir la chambre avant et de trouver TON bonheur. (lors de mon voyage je suis partie avec mon billet A/R et deux nuits d'hotels réservées...n'ai eu aucun mal à me débrouiller sur place)
Louer une voiture? A voir! Parfois il revient moins cher de louer les services d'un chauffeur...et puis les chemins ne sont pas toujours très bien indiqués...chauffeur = moins de stress et plus de temps pour regarder par la fenêtre
Bali est une ile sur laquelle il est très facile de voyager. Tout s'organise très facilement. le staff de tes hotels seront de bons conseils.
Le coin le plus joli? Tous ceux que j'ai visité ont leur charme. Fais toi ta propre idée sur place!
Bref, bonne idée?...oui biensûr. Pour ma part je repars au mois de mai pour quelques jours à bali et le reste entre lombok (ascension du rinjani, les plages du sud, les chutes d'eau autour de senaru) et les iles gilis...j'ai hâte😉
Dernier conseil : n'oublie pas ton écran total et ton appareil photo
j'ai juste un doute concernantla réservation d'hôtel.
certes je compte partir hors période (encore que avril, est ce vraiment hors période?), mais en 3 ans le tourisme s'est sans doute développé... disons que j'ai eu une mauvaise expérience il y a 3 ans justement en Croatie : nous sommes partis en voiture en août, forts de l'expérience de mon ami qui, 2 ans plus tôt y été allé sans rien réserver, et finalement impossible de trouver la moindre chambre ! on a dû dormir dans la voiture puis repartir en italie !
et là on n'aura pas de voiture sur place... hum
j'aurais bien réserver les 2 premières nuits, histoire d'être tranquille, mais ça suppose de chercher sans cesse la veille pr le lendemain, ça m'angoisse
j'avais déjà vu le site asiaroom, je comptais effectivement passer par eux.
concernant le trajet, je sais qu'il y a forcément une escale mais quelle compagnie choisir ?
j'espère trouver un billet dans les 800 € TTC aller-retour... sinon ça va être dur !

La première fois que j'y suis allée j'ai voyagé avec thai airways avec escale à bangkok de 2-3 h
Niveau guide : j'en combine 2 / le lonely planet et le Natural Guide (mon préféré)
Ma réponse ne sera pas très précise car mon voyage date d'il y a longtemps.
Il me semble juste que pour les réservations d'hôtels il y a tellement de choix que ce n'est pas vraiment un problème, si c'est complet il y aura toujours quelque chose de libre un peu plus loin.
Je n'ai jamais réservé d'hôtel, pendant mes nombreux voyages.
A Bali tu trouveras tous les prix, du plus cher au très bon marché. Les "guest house" de prix moyen sont tout à fait satisfaisants, et sympathiques. (Pour ma part j'aime bien le côté familial des guest house, même bon marché ça reste plus que correct.)
Concernant les compagnies aériennes, je ne sais pas quels sont les prix actuels. Le trajet est très long, 19 heures de vol, tu auras une escale minimum.
Je te conseille de choisir une compagnie agréable, ne cherche pas trop à faire d'économie sur n'importe quel vol. La "Malaysian airline" avec escale à Kuala Lumpur n'est pas mal, la "Thaï", "Singapore air line", très bien, "KLM", etc...
(Je n'aime pas trop les compagnies des émirats arabes question ambiance, même si elles sont bien, mais c'est une opinion perso, je préfère rester dans l'ambiance asiatique...)
Pour la découverte de Bali, tu n'as pas besoin d'un guide très performant, "Lonely planet", "Routard" ou autre, ce n'est pas très utile.
L'important c'est de se balader, dans la campagne, la région d'UBUD bien sûr, pour ses rizières, ses villages d'artistes et artisans, se promener au hasard, suivre les anniversaires des temples, les fêtes là où il y en a.
Bali n'est pas très étendu, du Nord au Sud, on a vite fait de parcourir l'île finalement. Beaucoup le font en moto, même en "Bemo", (les transports locaux), c'est folklo.
Il y a des temples connus à voir : Besakih, Tanah-Lot, etc..Voir les rizières autour de Gunung Kawi, la plage de Kusamba où l'on récolte le sel.
Question plages ce n'est pas si paradisiaque que l'on imagine, il faut par contre voir le retour des pêcheurs sur leurs jolis bateaux à balancier.
Voilà un petit aperçu, mais l'île a de nombreux atouts et c'est une destination de charme pour les voyageurs.
Rares sont ceux qui n'apprécient pas...

Je rentre de Bali, je confirme la situation n'est pas préoccupante en ce moment.
Je te conseille de te poser pour les premières nuits sur Legian Seminiak et de la tu planifies ton parcours.

Sinon tu peux appeler les frères Gusti de Bali tradition (coordonées chez pearl aussi), super sympa et ils te feront un parcours suivant tes envies de 3 ou 4 jours, au moins tu vois l'essentiel de ce que tu aimes.
Tu ne pourras pas tout voir car Bali est plein de surprise et qq fois tu prévois qq chose et tu t arretes tu prends le temps de voir et d ecouter les autres enfin tu verras.
Bali c est magique et crois moi ce n est pas la premiere fois que j'y vais.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
