Je me permets d'écrire ce petit compte-rendu sur mon séjour de l'an dernier! si cela peut répondre à certaines de vos questions, et je suis à votre disposition pour d'autres réponses

Nous sommes partis l'an dernier fin juillet pour 3 semaines;
nous avions juste pris les billets d'avion sur Singapour Air Line avec au retour un arrêt de 3j-2 nuits à Singapour, j'avais retenu 2 nuits à l'hôtel Laghawa Beach à Sanur, petit hôtel sympa, avec une piscine, jardin, accès à la plage; l'hôtel a envoyé une voiture pour nous chercher à l'aéroport; J'avais également retenu une voiture avec chauffeur, pour le lendemain de notre arrivée, chez www.andrereich@telkom.net, car lui seul faisait des grands véhicules (nous étions 6); mais j'en avais contacté un autre qui parlait bien le français mais il n'avait que des voitures pour 4 ; www.putubalinais@dps.centrin.net.id.
A partir de là nous avons circulé pratiquement tous les jours, les paysages sont à couper le souffle, des rizières, des vallées, la mer, enfin bref c’est magnifique !
Lendemain de notre arrivée, visite de la presq'ile de Bukit, la belle plage de Jimbaran avec ses bateaux colorés, le temple de Uluwatu et ses singes (j'ai bien aimé descendre dans la crique des surfer Padang Padang)
Nusa Dua est trop touristique pour moi et même si la plage est belle c'est dans un grand complexe avec barrières, gardes enfin rien de ce qui est Bali.
2ème jour départ via Tanah Lot (super) .... direction le nord par Antosani, Tabanan, Banjar, Baignades aux sources d'eau chaudes, (dépaysant)
couchage à Lovina ( Hôtel Rini)
lendemain matin très tôt, sortie en mer pour voir les dauphins, on en a vus, mais de loin, c'est surtout le levé du soleil sur la mer qui est magnifique, d'accord on n'est pas tout seul, mais c'est quand même bien beau, ensuite petit déj et re-sortie en mer pour snorkeling (bien) je n'ai pas trop aimé Lovina, donc départ vers la cascade de Gitgit, petite!, lac Tamblingan, Bedugul etc jusqu'à Ubud - couchage à Ubud (hotel Artini 3) superbe hôtel mais à mon goût trop loin du centre;
ensuite nous sommes restés 3 jours à Ubud, mais on aurait pu y rester 4 et même 5 (Monkey Forest, les grandes marches à faire dans des petits chemins au milieu des rizières, superbe,
tous les alentours, les gorges de l'Ayung ect... de Ubud nous sommes allé à Batur, mais nous n'avons pas monté, c'est des grands voleurs, pour être accompagnés et c'est obligatoire, ils nous demandaient une fortune style 25€ par personne et ils ne voulaient pas nous faire de prix pour nous 6, donc on est allé au fond de la vallée et nous avons grimpé en haut d'une colline ou nous étions entre mer et lac, (par la vue) superbe!
ensuite nous sommes parti sur Amed pour 3 jours, complètement isolé, rien le soir, par contre c'est bien joli et reposant et pour faire du snorkeling ou de la plongée c'est génial, tu plonges autour de bateaux échoués, donc il y a des coraux, des poissons et c'est juste à coté du bord ., Dans ce coin là, j'ai bien aimé le palais d'eaux de, bien sur au cours de tous ces trajets, il y a des temples, que tu visites ou non, des rizières, des promenades etc, d'ou l'intérêt d'avoir un chauffeur, car tu laisses tes affaires dans la voiture, et quand tu fais des grandes marches (nous marchions environs 2 à 3 heures) il t'attend à l'autre point qui n'est pas forcément celui d'où tu es parti.
Ensuite nous sommes retounés à Sanur, au même hôtel pour 1 nuit et le lendemain à l'aéroport pour nous envoler pour Lombock (25 minutes de vol), ensuite le bateau pour 3 jours sur Gili Air, (vraiment génial, c'est pas racontable, il faut y aller pour savourer "l'ambiance") un petit tour sur les 2 autres iles, ensuite retour sur Lombock, 2 petits jours à Senggigi, bof pas terrible, juste une belle balade dans la montagne qui surplombait la baie, de tous petits villages bien typiques avec des fours creusés dans la terre.
Ensuite retour sur Bali, et 2 nuits à Kuta, très très touristique, très embouteillée, très bruyante, , belle plage de sable, très grande, très large mais très dangereuse.
et ensuite avion 3 jours à Singapour, (j'ai bien aimé) ville très propre, très vert, on dirait une ville dans un parc, gens charmants,
belles balades le long des quais en partant du LION
et après le retour ... hélas 🙁

Singapour air line = très bien,
ne réservez d''hôtel que pour votre arrivée, c'est mieux de savoir ou se poser après le vol, mais ensuite ce n'est pas nécessaire, il y a de la place partout et en plus on négocie les prix, c'est bien plus intéressant que les prix donnés sur internet et si cela ne te plait pas tu t'en va ... autrement tu es obligé de rester si tu as payé.
A votre disposition si je peux vous aider
pour le vrai plaisir .. a Bali il y a un australien qui a un petit hélicoptère ( 4 places ) et se faire le tour de l'île vue du ciel est insolite .. ( je l'ai utiliser plusieurs fois . pour des raison professionnels .
il est parfait car pas de vibrations .. et si vous êtes amateur de photo . il faut lui dire a l'avance .. pour que il ait e temps d'enlever une des portes ..
Il se trouve a Kuta .. et je crois que il ne doit pas être bien difficile a pister...
je sais que il fait beaucoup de vol honey moon ..

je ne suis pas une trop bonne narratrice, par contre Alan avait écrit un récit de son séjour sur Gili et c'est celui ci qui m'a donné envie d'y aller
va voir dans les carnets de voyage le récit d'Alan
en ce qui concerne l'avion Bali Lombock c'est dans les 45€ aller-retour pour 20 à 25 minutes de vol.
ensuite tu prends un taxi ou un bus local (si tu en trouve) et il t'amène à l'embarcadaire pour Gili ( pour nous Gili Air)
le prix de la navette publique est une misère, le prix du bateau privé est un peu plus chère, je vais regarder dans mes papiers pour voir (mais nous étions 6 et divisé cela ne faisait pas beaucoup)
pour Gili c'est vrai que c'est un grand farniente, une vie ZEN, pas de voiture, des petits chevaux, des salons-cabanes extérieurs juché à 1 metre du sol avec gros coussins de couleurs chaudes ou il fait bon refaire le monde ... ou ne rien faire
certaines plages sont très jolies, bon snorkelling, l'intérieur de l'ile rappelle l'Afrique, bref c'est bien sympa
notre hotel était bien, mais si j'y retourne ce n'est pas à celui la que j'irai (je cherche dans mes doc et je donnerai le nom) ainsi que le cout.
hélas je ne peut pas en dire beaucoup sauf que ça existe et que i fait des vols pour le tourisme .. il a plusieurs plans de vol .. ce qui suppose diffèrent prix ... que dire il est très expérimentée je le sait pour cause .( exemple ). j'ai fait un reportage avec lui sur les fous du sruf sauvage .. il fallait aller très bas sur les vagues .. il maîtrisait très bien l'appareille .. c'est un vrai pro .. il est très connu dans notre milieux .. car on est asses exigent .. et il le sait ..
l'elico est neuf .. et comme je disait sans vibrations . ce qui n'est pas souvent le cas ..
la seule chose que je peut vous garantir est que on a une vue total ment insolite vue du haut .. du a la roche volcanique .. la mer les rizières en plateau aussi ..
un truc pour les amateur es de photos .. prendre l'elico très tôt ou tard pour avoir la lumière tres rasante .. jamais a midi .. vous ferez mieux que un certain photographe connu aérien .. mais certainement mois bien que un autre photographe aerien de mer .... lui c'est le top ...
ce n'est que une suggestion .. je l'ai proposer . car je sais que ça seras un souvenir exceptionnel .. ce qui ne sera pas le cas en thailande .. ( sauf dans la région de phag na .. ) mais c'est tres limite ..

voili voilou, sur Gili Air nous étions à l'HOTEL GILI AIR, chambre pour 2 avec petit dej = 33$ / jour
les bungalows étaient géniaux (style western) tout en bois, belle terrasse, salle de bain à ciel ouvert (alors ça c'est un bonheur total) piscine bref sympa mais la plage n'était pas trop top, et en plus "c'était un peu loin du centre " si on peut dire centre;
si j'y retourne j'essairai un préconisé par le GDR Le GILI INDAH MELATI, cela dit je n'ai pas été le visiter mais il me semble que les bungalows étaient du même style et c'était plus près de l'embarcadaire, des petites échoppes, et pour la plage elle m'a paru plus sympa. enfin cela reste à voir!!
en bref pour Bali et pour Gili :
je te conseille de prendre un peu d'euros et un peu de dollards, bien sur ils changent sans problème (quoiqu'il faille bien recompter, car les biftons disparaissent rapidement, de vrais prestidigitateurs)mais il y a 2 ou 3 hotels dont les prix étaient en dollards, donc pour la négo s'était plus facile!!!
si tu as, au cours de ton voyage, la possibilité d'avoir des salles de bain à toit ouvert n'hésite pas, comme tu as été en Afrique je suppose que tu as du prendre quelques douches à l'air libre avec les grosses louches, et bien c'est aussi bien sauf que c'est plus "sophistiqué"
que pourrais te dire d'autre si ce n'est que nous déjeunions (sur Bali) pour environs 15000rp soit :1.30€ sans boisson, juste 1 plat (goute les mi-goreng ou les nasi-goreng)
oui j'ai des photos et si tu me donnes ton mail je peux essayer de t'en envoyer (je dis essayer car je ne suis pas douée douée)

A ce sujet j'aimerai savoir si vous avez trouvé un bon hôtel à Gili Air, car j'aimerai également y faire un saut de puce. Plusieurs site du genre "bali Autrement" font mention de chouette hotel, mais sans en dévoiler les noms.... et je n'ai pas encore acheté de doc à jour, notre dernier voyage dans la région date de plus de 10 ans

voila celui que, si j'y retourne, je choisirai, l' Hotel Gili Air était très très bien, mais la plage n'y était pas terrible et pas de possibilité de snorkeling à cet endroit, il me semble que le Indah n'était pas loin d'un jolie plage ou on pouvait plonger, et plus près "du centre"! cela dit je n'y suis pas entré donc je ne vous en dirai rien de plus, sauf que c'était celui qui était préconisé par le GDR ; en fait si nous avons attéris à l'hotel Gili Air, c'est que sur le bateau il y avait un "bon rabatteur" qui nous a vanté l'hotel Gili Air et on sait dit : pourqui pas!

je me suis relue et effectivement je n'étais pas bien claire dans mes propos, voila j'ai effectivement trouvé un chauffeur parlant français mais il n'avait qu'une voiture pour 4 personnes et nous étions 6 donc je ne l'ai pas retenu, par contre nous avions trouvé un loueur à Sanur avec chauffeur mais celui-ci ne parlait pas français mais très bien anglais (bien mieux que moi) donc nous communiquions en anglais (avec quelques fois l'aide de mon dictionnaire) adresse donnée par le GDR (André SEWATAMA - il a une agence de location).
Je crois avoir mis l'adresse du chauffeur qui parlait français (PUTU SANTOSA) .... lui c'est un particulier!
Tu as le même (rare) prénom que ma soeur.

Super, un vol en hélico!!! on part le 20 avril jusqu'au 30 pour notre voyage de noces et un tour de l'île en hélico, cela m'enchante déjà!! Peux-tu essayer de te rapeller qui doit-on contacter pour ce vol??? Je vous promet que lorsque on revient de notre voyage le topo sera bien là!! avec si, on trouve notre survol de de Bali.

Alors je vais essayer de répondre à vos questions même si cela fait dèjà un petit moment ....
Nous avons donc retenu notre voiture chez :
www.andrereich@telkom.net, et il y avait le chauffeur de prévu avec le véhicule.
Nous avions retenu de France.
Pour le circuit c'est nous qui l'avions conçu à partir du Guide du Routard et du Guide VOIR. et donc nous l'ons donné à notre chauffeur qui nous a conduit.
Nous n'avions réservé que les 2 premieres nuit d'hotel (par internet) aucune surprise et ils sont bien venus nous chercher à l'aéroport.
Alors pour le vol nous étions passés par NOUVELLES FRONTIERES, à l'époque ils proposaient un mini séjour de 3 jours-2 nuits à Singapour, et était compris l'hotel et les transferts, il ne nous restait que les repas et les transports en ville (le métro est d'une propreté à manger par terre), je ne sais pas si ils le proposent encore mais si cela ne coute pas plus chère en billet d'avion, vous pouvez toujours le faire directement, il y a un métro direct centre ville-aéroport et je pense que vous pouvez réserver un hotel par internet, cela vaut le coup c'est un très jolie ville.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m over in East Borneo in mid-July.
I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!
I think there are, but I’d need more details!!
I went to Thailand in February 2025 and don’t remember having to apply for a visa—is that still the case now? And for Cambodia too?

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
