je projette de partir en Islande cet été (2 semaines en juillet), je pense loué un Jimny.
je cherche des info sur la piste F910 (d'Est en l'Ouest) d'askja pour rejoindre la F26 en passant au Sud de trolladyngja (celle qui passe au nord est vraiment réputer difficile).
Est-ce qu'il possibilite d'y allez avec un Jimny ??
Quelqu'un l'aurait déjà fait/tenté avec ce véhicule ??
Tout est faisable: j'ai vu une 205 sur une piste Marocaine ou j'hésitais à passer avec mon 4X4, et un Jimny est un vrai 4x4.
Celà dit, ceux de location en Islande ne sont pas vraiment prévu pour celà: la garde au sol est trop juste pour emprunter cette piste. Les pneus installés sur ces véhicules en été sont des AT voir meme des pneus route... c'est plus que bof sur un 4x4.
De plus les assurances de la location ne te couvrent pas sur cette piste avec ce véhicule.
De plus tu n'aura pas l'équipement nécessaire au cas ou tu t'embourbe ou au cas ou tu t'ensable.
Tu n'aura pas l'autonomie gasoil nécessaire pour faire la traversée.
Je suis passé par la piste sud qui longe le glacier (je ne connais pas la piste nord qui n'a que l'avantage d'éviter le gué de 800m et qui est vraiment pénible d'après les gens rencontrés) en une journée nous n'avons rencontré qu'une voiture. (en Aout). Mais il ne faut pas hésiter à aller jusqu'à Askja, voir meme un peut plus loin, mais ne pas passer le point de non retour (autonomie gasoil) car le Jymny aura énormément de mal à faire toute la traversée. La seconde partie sur la F910, après Askjà, la consommation double par rapport à la premiere partie (qui est la F88 puis F910)
On peut toujours remettre le départ à demain... ou partir tout de suite.
J'avais déjà lu qu'effectivement la conso doublait sur cette piste (j'avais estimé à 20l/100 la conso sur les 80kil de la F910)
J'avais lu egalement que la piste du sud (celle que tu as prise) n'est plus entretenue => c'est l'ancienne piste, seule la piste du Nord l'est. Enfin, c'est ce que disait le topo. Dans les fait, je ne trouve que des récits de personne qui comme toi ont emprunté la piste du Sud.

Est-ce que les contrats de location liste de facon exhaustive les pistes couvertes ?
Aprés Askja, jusqu'ou est il intérressant d'aller ?
20L/100 pour un Jimny ca me semble beaucoup, mais je ne connais pas sa conso de référence. A mon avis il doit consommer 8L/100 soit 15 à 16l en conso doublée. A vérifier. Mais de toutes façon le réservoir doit etre assez réduit ce qui ne te permettra pas la traversée complete. Moi j'ai fait la traversée avec mon 4x4, un Patrol réhaussé de 10cm avec des pneus en 33 pouces. D'autre font celà à pieds ou en vélo (beaucoup de blessés)
Pour le contrat de loc je n'en sais rien, je n'ai pas loué. A voir auprès des loueurs.
Il est intéeressant d'aller jusqu'au gué: Depuis le camping d'Askja, tu peut prendre la piste vers le sud (la fille de loffice des garde te le déconseillera avec ce véhicule). C'est roulant. Attention c'est un peut sablonneux quand meme, il faut avoir une petite habitude de rouler dans le sable (noir) jusquà au carrefour qui se trouve environ à 20km après Askja (WPT: N64 54.824 W16 45.854). A ce carrefour tu prends la piste sud, alternance de sable et de dur sur encore environ 15km... c'est tout plat et tu te rapproche doucement du glacier. Au bout de ces 15km le gué de la Gaeslavatneid (ou un truc comme ça) qui se trouve à peut près au point : N64 49.928 W17 01.368.
Moi le jour ou je suis passé, il n'y avait pratiquement pas une goute d'eau (le maximum était de 30cm environ) dans ce gué qui fait environ 800m de large. Si l'eau n'est pas trop haute, on voit le ballisage. S'il n'y a pas trop d'eau, tu peut le traverser en suivant bien le balisage (fond assez dur, mais ne pas hésiter à garder un régime élevé) pour monter sur la coline en face.
Ensuite je te conseille de faire demi-tour en espérant pour toi que le point de non retour ne soit pas encore atteint. C'est après que la conso augmente encore plus car on ne roule qu'en 1ere et seconde sur du cailou très désagréable pendant au moins 50km. (au moins 2 h de martyr pour le véhicule et ses passager pour ces 50 bornes... et pourtant mon 4x4 est prévu pour ça, contrairement aux Jimny)
Va voir le syte de Chris sur l'Islande. tout y est ou presque.
Attention, je répete, sur cette portion tu ne sera pas assuré. Il n'y a pas de station essence. Et il faut avoir déjà une petite expérience de la conduite de 4x4 en terrain difficile. Si tu as déjà ce type d'expérience (alors celà te semblera facile) et que tu n'a pas peur au regard de l'assurance, alors je te conseille le détour.😉

Les Jimny loués en Islande ne sont pas des diesel, mais des essence… Donc 10L en marche normale, 20L en TT sont plausibles.
Je ne connais pas la F910 au Nord du Vatnajökull, mais de l'autre côté (vers l'Est en partant d'Askjá) elle gagne à être connue, pas de difficulté particulière et très sympa avec quelques passages sablonneux, un peu de slalom entre des blocs de lave par endroit, quelques gués et des paysages magnifiques…

Pour la hauteur du balisage, impossible à dire à l'avance: il s'agit de piquets en plastique blanc avec une bande rouge en haut, du genre de ceux que l'on trouve sur le bord de nos nationales.
J'imagine qu'ils plantes ces piquets en début de saison et que les piquets s'ensablent au cours de l'été ou disparaissent avec une crue.
(Quand je suis passé, le haut des piquets se trouvaient à environ 30 à 60cm au dessus du sable.) L'intéret: la vue sur le Vatnajoekul, le gué et Askja au loin.

We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?

From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’re planning a 13-day family road trip in Morocco this July, with six people in a Toyota Prado 4x4 (renting in Marrakech).
We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.
Here’s the planned route (in this order):

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

We’re struggling a bit with timing and choosing activities for the part of the trip between Sesriem and Brandberg.
Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)

While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

When I arrive in Divundu, I’d like to head straight to the Khwai area early in the morning to one of the campsites in the Khwai Development Trust. Is the drive doable with a good 4x4 in a day?
We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
Is that too much time to spend in each place?

Have you traveled from Morondava → Tsingy between May 1st and 5th?
Was the journey doable and safe?
