Février approche à grands pas et je m'aperçois qu'il me faut encore boucler les dernières formalités de notre prochaine escapade en Islande (ma femme et moi car les enfants seront en Autriche ...)
Les billets d'avion et l'hôtel sont déjà réservés (auprès d'Icelandair) mais il me faut encore réserver un véhicule et peut-être quelques excursions pour plus de sécurité et de confort.
Je soumets à votre avis notre projet d'itinéraire car je suis preneur d'infos et de conseils ne connaissant pas encore l'Islande.
Nous arrivons le 16 février à Keflavik vers 16 heures et je pensais récupérer la voiture et filer directement au Blue Lagoon ... pour en soirée rejoindre notre hôtel à Reykjavik (et y manger aussi :)
Le 17 en fonction de la météo : filer tôt direction Jökulsaron (390 km) profiter des paysages et des glaçons aussi ... ensuite retour avec nuit à l'hôtel à Vik (il semble qu'un hôtel de 2014 soit implanté face à la plage ...). S'il y a des aurores boréales à observer ...
Le 18, je pensais profiter de Vik et de sa plage de sable noir ... et pourquoi pas m'approcher de la carcasse de DC3 près de Vik ... ensuite retour vers Reykjavik. Je pense réserver une excursion de nuit en 4*4 pour aller observer les aurores boréales (but de notre escapade)
Le 19, en fonction de la météo Gullfoss, Geysir et parc national de Pingvellir ou ballade dans Reykjavik (la ballade en mer pour voir les dauphins et cétacés ?)
Le 20, aller du coté de Borganes ou Reykjavik si nous ne l'avons pas fait la veille
Le 21 nous décollons tôt à 7 heures aussi nous devrions rendre le véhicule à 5h00 du matin.
Ce bref séjour devrait être complété par un autre plus long et complet en compagnie de nos enfants et des mes beau-parents cet été aussi sauf pour les aurores boréales (que nous voudrions bien apercevoir et immortaliser sur des photos), les autres sites sont indicatifs et peuvent être remplacés en fonction de la météo et de l'état des routes.
A ce titre je remercie celles et ceux qui pourrons enrichir cet itinéraire et contribuer à la réussite de notre séjour.
Je me demande particulièrement :
- s'il est nécessaire de réserver un 4*4 alors que nous ne cheminerons que sur la route n°1 (question souvent posée ... pour ma part si les VL sont équipés de pneus à clous je pense que cela suffit largement)
- combien faut-il changer d'ISK (il semble que l'on paye surtout avec le CB mais d'expérience je sais que c'est toujours bien d'avoir un peu d'argent local)
- avez-vous fait l'une des excursions que je me propose de faire (4*4 aurore boréale et sortie en mer) et connaissez-vous une agence sympa ?
- une adresse sympa de restaurant sur l'itinéraire ? étant gourmand il semble avoir vu qu'à Hôfn on peut manger des langoustines somptueuses ... amis s'il y a d'autres endroits ...

Votre journée du 17 me semble un peu "hard" ... Ca fait du 600km dans la journée + les haltes... La N1 est une bonne route sur cette portion, mais c'est pas l'autoroute quand même.
Je n'ai pas fait l'Islande en hiver mais tous les véhicules de location sont forcément équipés de pneus neige, donc effectivement 4x4 pas obligatoire...
Quant au fameux restau de Hofn (oui les langoustines, entre autres, sont un régal), c'est 85 kms après Jokulsarlon... J'imagine mal votre journée et comme vous devez y revenir, je me demande s'il est bien judicieux d'aller jusqu'à Jokulsarlon cette fois...
Edit : Je complète n'ayant lu qu'en diagonale...
Pour le retour, aussi tôt le matin, perso, j'aurais loué le véhicule à Keflavik (on vient vous chercher à l'aéroport) et prévu de dormir à Keflavik le soir du 20 après avoir rendu le véhicule. Les hôtels ont des navettes...

mon jour de congé est bien rempli et mis à profit pour notre voyage.
Pour le véhicule, je souscris à votre point de vue je pense qu'effectivement il n'est pas nécessaire de prendre un SUV ... et je ne compte pas m'écarter de la route n°1.
Sinon, les vols et l'hôtel sont réservés ... par Icelandair il s'agit d'un package et toute les nuits seront à Reykjavik, je comptais cependant passer une nuit à Vik qui me semble être un bon compromis ...
Effectivement la journée à 600 km cela fait beaucoup mais nous sommes deux à conduire et c'est vrai que j'ai bien envie de voir ce site, d'autant que le lendemain on pourra lézarder un peu à Vik ? au pire on prendra un chambre sur le tard.
Pour les langoustines, je ne compte pas aller jusqu'à Hofn malheureusement mais si vous connaissez un restaurant sympa qui en a sur la carte :)

Attention aux conditions de circulation dans les Hellisheiði. L'hiver dernier, il y soufflait un blizzard épouvantable. Il y avait du verglas et des congères.Nous sommes partis de Reykjavík à 8h et sommes arrivés à Jökulsárlón vers 17h30. Il faisait nuit et nous n'avons rien vu.🙁

Ton conseil est frappé au coin du bon sens ! Ma femme est beaucoup plus sensée que moi, aussi je compte bien éviter au maximum les galères et consulter la météo et l"état des route avant de m'engager sur un aussi long périple.
Je prends aussi en compte les conseils de Aginum en envisageant de dormir à Jökulsaron au lieu de de Vik afin de couper la poire en deux et de m'éviter 600 km dans la journée d'autant qu'on aime beaucoup s'arrêter photographier le paysage.
Tout cela sera fait si le temps le permet ... j'espère quand même pouvoir aller à Vik au minimum.
Pour le resto c'est noté ce serait dommage de passer à coté d'une dégustation de langoustines ... de la même façon qu'il aurait été dommage de ne pas goûter du crabe arctique en Norvège (enfin il parait que d'ici quelques années on pourra tous en goûter en France !)
Dans l'expectative nous avons au pire nos chambres d'hôtel payées pour la durée du séjour à Reykjavik.

Finalement nous avons réservé un SUV (un Duster ... cela va me changer de notre gros 4*4 :)) mais comme ça nous pourrons peut-être sortir un peu de la Route n°1 (je pense à la carcasse du DC3 près de Vik qui me semble être "désservie" par une piste ou une pistouille, au moins sur google map).
Pour plus de commodités et j'ai réservé une nuit le 18/02 entre Jokulsarlon et Vik afin de limiter le kilométrage (j'ai regardé les webcam sur l'état des routes et effectivement 400 km en une fois me semble être un très gros morceau à cette époque de l'année même sur la route n°1).
Pour l'instant, notre périple ressemble à ça :
16/02 : arrivée à Keflavik, récupération du véhicule chez Sixt, courses sommaires au Bonus et direction Blue Lagoon. Nuit à l'hôtel à Reykjavik (au grand hôtel Reykjavik, toute les nuits de la semaine y sont d'ailleurs réservées).
17/02 : Cercle d'Or ( 268 km de périple) avec parc national de thingvellir, Geysir, Gulfoss, selfoss et Reykjavik pour la nuit (un bon restaurant ne sera certainement pas du luxe).
18/02 : Jokulsarlon si la météo le permet (400 km), du coup départ avant 5 heures du matin pour profiter un peu sur place et arrêts photos (nombreux). nuit à Kirkjubarjarkaustur (nous avons aussi commandé une aurore boréale visible de notre chambre :).
19/02 : Vik et sa plage de sable noir et escalade de la falaise ... arrêt si possible pour la photo du DC3 sur le chemin du retour (300 km en tout) vers Reykjavik.
20/02 : Bogarnes et parc national du Snaefellsjokull ? ou autre chose ... suivant météo ou petite forme ou proposition ? il semble qu'autour du Blue Lagoon il y a de très beaux sites.
21/02 à 5 heures remise du VL auprès du loueur et départ à 7 heures pour Paris ...
S'agissant des dispositions matérielles :
je pense retirer assez peu de couronnes ISK car ma carte ne prend que 2,5% de frais, et nous avons prévu pas mal de vêtements adaptés (il parait que c'est d'ailleurs à cela que l'on reconnait les touristes) dont des après ski très chauds.
Thermos, lampes, trépieds appareil photo et gopro, batteries photo supplémentaires, chaufferettes pieds et mains, bonnet super chaud, gps, ... what else ?

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.

I’ve found some great deals on flights to two destinations: Menorca in the Balearic Islands and Alghero in Sardinia.
The flights would take us from Bordeaux to Menorca on the evening of 9/07 and return to Bordeaux in the evening on 13/07.
Or to Alghero very early on 10/07 (departure at 6 AM) and return in the mid-afternoon on 13/07.
We love beautiful landscapes, the sea, snorkeling, walks (hiking), and the charm of villages.
We want to spend some quality time as a couple without our kids and mix discovery with relaxation.
I can’t make up my mind. The transport costs are roughly the same when you factor in parking for Sardinia since the early departure means no public transport from home.
We’ve never been to Menorca, Sardinia, or Italy at all. I’ve been to Majorca, though.
Menorca would be 4 nights and 4 days, while Alghero would be 3 nights and 2.5 days.
Also, what itinerary would you recommend for Alghero and Menorca?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
This route means renting a car in Finland and dropping it off in Norway. My initial searches are showing rental rates that are... astronomical—about three times the price compared to returning it at the starting point.

I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay
D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there
D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there
D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night
D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night
D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda
D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there
D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.

Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...

we’re a couple planning a 2-week road trip this August, with a must-stop (about 3 days on Skye). Any route suggestions? Hotel recommendations? Photo spots?
My husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland in September 2026.
We’ll be flying from Montreal to London, where we’ll spend three nights.
After that, we’ll head to Dublin for a few days and take trains to visit the main attractions.
Our ideal plan would be to choose hotels near train stations and take tours to the interesting spots.
Would 8 days in Ireland be enough for this kind of trip?
We’re a group of 4 heading out at the end of June for 11 days.

We’ll be renting a regular car, not a 4x4.
