Voilà pas mal de temps que je parcours le forum et lis mon petit guide et j'ai ainsi pu etablir un petit planning de mon voyage en thailande (et au cambodge).
J'aurais besoin de conseils pour savoir si mon itinéraire est cohérent et au besoin "l'affiner".

Voici donc mes questions:
Je souhaites me rendre au festival de Phuket (qui debute le 8 Octobre) et j'ai donc baser mon plan de voyage sur l'idée de prendre l'avion de Chiang Mai le 7 Octobre au soir. 2 jours sont ils suffisants pour un bon appercu? tous les jours (manifestations, activités..) sont ils similaires?
En consequence de ce choix (d'atterir le 8/10 à Phuket) je n'ai pas d'autre choix que de faire BKK à la fin (pour les achats notamment) et le Cambodge au debut. Ca me laisse egalement 8 jours pour faire le "nord". Est ce suffisant?
Quels villes/villages me conseillez vous? Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pai, Soppong, Mae Salong, Chiang Dao?
Je pensais faire Chiang Mai, Chaing Rai, Pai ou Mae Hong Son et le triangle d'or...
J'hesite a aller a Ayuthaya pour avoir une journée supplémentaire pour le nord, est ce une bonne idée?
A cette periode Ko Tao est elle un bon choix? je l'ai choisi car je voudrais faire du snorkeling et car je n'aime pas les ambiances "boites de nuits"😊
Une dernière: faut il reserver les trains de nuits?

3 jours à Angkor c'est pas vraiment faire le Cambodge...
C'est dommage je pense que c'est probablement plus intéressant (ou au moins plus attachant) que la Thaïlande.
Pour tes trajets BKK <=> Siem Reap, si tu es débrouillarde et que tu as l'habitude de voyager je te conseille de prendre un car dans la gare routière de BKK près du marché Chatuchak (je me rappelle plus du nom de la gare), tu arrive à qq km de la frontière de là tu prends un tuk-tuk pour la frontière et enfin un taxi (tu trouve facilement des gens pour le partager) pour SR.
Ca sera au moins aussi compliqué si tu prends ton billet dans un TAT sauf que t'aura un mec sur le dos toute la journée pour te dire ce que tu dois faire et où tu dois aller. Avec l'inertie de groupe, tu perds bien 2-3 heures dans cette histoire et en plus t'es traité comme du bétail.
Si tu choisis la solution du car + taxi je peux te donner plus de détails.
Je compte visiter le cambodge lors d'un prochain voyage plus "en profondeur" donc je me "contente" de Angkor car c'est pas trop loin de la Thailande.
Je comptais bien prendre un car jusqu'a la frontiere puis un taxi jusqu'a Siem Reap (j'ai entendu des histoires d'arnaques pour les trajet bangkok-Siem Reap).
Sinon tu sais combien de temps est nécéssaire pour le site? je pensais prendre le forfait 3 jours (donc je compte 5j: 2j pour les trajets et 3 pour les visites).
Une dernière question: j'y vais avec ma femme qui est d'origine cambodgienne, sais tu si elle doit payer les 40$? car je ne sais pas si la gratuité concerne juste les cambodgiens residant là bas..
Bus jusqu'à la frontière puis taxi c'est la meilleure solution.
Effectivement, il y a des arnaques, mais il ne faut pas s'affoler, vous risquez seulement de perdre du temps et un peu d'argent.
La principale arnaque est de prendre un ticket complet BKK-Siem Reap dans un TAT, c'est plus cher, plus long et on est traité comme du bétail. (d'ailleurs il n'y a pas de locaux dans ces bus là).
Avec un bus de la gare routière Mo CHit, vous arrivez près de la frontière (10km environs) à Aryanprathet. De là il faut prendre un tuk-tuk jusqu'à la frontière. Ils m'ont fait le coup une fois de me déposer à une sorte de baraque ressemblant à des bureau en me faisant croire que c'était la frontière, malheureusement pour eux je connaissais déjà. L'arnaque consiste à vous faire faire un visa et de vous le faire payer 25$ au lieu de 20$...
La frontière ressemble vraiment à une frontière c'est assez important et on ne peut la traverser que à pied. Même au vrai poste de douane, on essaiera de vous soutirer 5$ je crois en plus des 20$ du visa. c'est aussi une arnaque, mais les douaniers insistent, alors souvent les gens craquent en croyant que c'est normal, puisque ca vient d'un douanier. Bienvenu au Cambodge...
Si ta femme parle Khmer ca peut simplifier les choses.
Passé la frontière on trouve facilement des taxis ainsi que des touristes avec qui le partager. Le taxi coûte 30$/35$.
Pour Angkor, si elle a un passport Cambodgien elle ne paiera pas pour les temples. 3 jours je considère que c'est le minimum mais c'est vrai que c'est déjà bien.

pour le trajet bkk siem reap, tu peut prendre un bus gouvernementale( bleu) qui te coutera moins de 200 bath (4 ou 5 E)et assez rapide .compte 4h jusqua la frontiere (aranyaprathet)cambodgienne.La gare des bus ce situe a Ekkamai a l est de bangkok sur sukhumvit, tu a une station du metro aerien du meme nom.

Pour le Nord de la Thailande, je ne peux te donner que mon avis sur ce que nous venons de vivre...
Sukothai : pas plus de trois jours / deux nuits nous y avons fait les deux parcs
Chiang mai : Coup de coeur pour nous ! On était bien dans notre guest house, la ville est sympa, les gens adorables, les temples reposant... On a loué un scooter et rouler au gré de nos envies! resté 8 jours je pense en tout.
Chiang Rai : on l'a fait pour le Trek, pas vu grand chose de la ville, mais on se rend compte que c'est encore plus vert que Chiang mai !
Kanchanaburi, on y a fait les chutes et c'est tout... c'était la fin de trois semaines dans le Nord, je commençais à devenir impatiente de voir les îles :-)

oui on a passé tout ce temps sur Chiang mai, parce qu'on s'y sentait vraiment bien... Le nord comparé aux îles est un vrai gâteaux ! c'est une question de gout biensur ! Mais nous avons passé 3 semaines dans le nord et 6 jours sur les îles c'était assez pour les îles :-) surtout koh samui !
Pour le trek, je te coseille vraiment vraiment d'aller sur Chiang rai ! prendre un bus de chiang mai à chiang rai ( 4H ), nous avons fait un trek à 2 avec le guide ! Il faut savoir que je suis pas une grande sportive ! et etre à deux permet d'aller à ton rythme :-)
Nous avons loger dans un village dans les montagnes absolument fabuleux ! Sur notre blog il y a des photos tu peux aller voir, sincèrement Chiang Rai pour le trek vaut le détour !

J'ai egalement lu qu'il y avait un aeroport à la frontière (je pense coté Cambodge) pour rallier Siem Reap pour ceux qui logent dans les hotels de la compagnie aerienne Sabaidee. Est ce vrai? si oui avez vous idée des prix?
En effet je prefere arriver en debut d'apres midi au Cambodge le lendemain de mon arrivée en Thailande pour eventuellement aller au lac "tonlé sap" (ca doit pas s'ecrire comme ca) et enchainer avec les 3 jours de visite de Angkor (temples) plutot que de "perdre" mon apres midi dans Bkk (que nous ferons en fin de sejour bien sur)..mais nous pensons arriver assez crevés à la frontière...

des bus entre bkk et aranyaprathet y en a toute la journee a ekkamai, j en avait pris un a 16h30 j etait arrivee vers 20h30 21h, et la tout de suite t a des tuktuk qui te proposent de t emmener a une guesthouse (300 bath). celle ou j avait dormi etait a 500m de la frontiere cambodgienne, le lendemain matin je m y suis donc rendu a pied.

Cependant je trouve que 300b pour le tuk tuk est relativement cher (comparé au trajet Bkk-frontiere).

non en faites j ai du mal me faire comprendre c est la nuit d hotel qui etait a 300 bath (+ 100bath pour la caution pour la cle). apres la course de tuk tuk pas plus de 50 bath je crois.....
sinon il n est pas mal vu de porter bermuda et t shirt(?), il est mal vu de se ballader torse nu , mais bon beaucoup de farang le font....
par contre pour la visite de certain temples une tenue moyennement correcte sera exigé( pas de short court, debardeur, jupe ou pumpum short pour les filles )

salut comme personne se pointe pour donner son avis sur ce festival très spectaculaire , , et plus que insolite , ,
je dirais que c'est les 3 derniers jours qui sont les plus intéressants , , ne pas hésiter a louer une petite moto pour voir ce que les villages autour de phuket town font ils sont plus intimes et aussi spectaculaires , ,
attention souvent les hôtels de la ville sont pris , , donc prévoir un peut avant , ,
sinon moment fort au lever du soleil aller au temple et voir les préparations , , du gore thaïe 100 % garanti

Je rectifie deux prix:
- Le prix tuk tuk Anaryapratet ( marché) jusqu'à la frontière: 80 THB
- Le prix du taxi: affiché 48 usd mais se négocie à 40USD ( 2H30 de trajet , interessant de partager avec d'autres touristes. Il va falloir insister fort pour le taxi ne vous laisse pas en "banlieue " de SR, ce qu'ils font maintenant systematiquement en accord avec les tuk. Le tuk vous récupère à l'entreé de la ville et tente de vous emmener dans "sa" guesthouse dont il perçoit une commission. La course jusqu'à "sa" gh est, elle, gratuite.Donc si vous avez reservez ailleurs, il vous faudra insister pour qu'il vous y conduise et payer la course(deux dollars pas plus et c'est un bon prix)
- Bus pour SR depuis la frontière :5USD mais il y en a assez peu. En tous cas, un départ à 14H de la gare de bus de Poipet ( de la frontière à la gare en question , navette régulière gratuite désormais ).Effectue le trajet en 3H.
Trois jours pour visiter les temples, c'est bien mais le pass trois jours (40USD)permet désormais de l'utiliser durant toute une semaine. La visite des temples est fatiguante. Si vous disposez d'un peu de temps, mieux vaut entrecouper les visites de temples par un ou deux jours de repos.

Si le pass est valable une semaine je pense que l'on va effectivement prendre une journée pour visiter les alentours de Siem Reap.
En ce qui concerne Phuket je ne peux pas me permetre de rester les 3 derniers jours malheureusement (j'ai Ko Thao et BKK à visiter egalement) donc je ne resterai que le premier jour du festival.
Je n'attends donc plus que des "eclaircissements" concernant mon projet pour le nord mais apparement le sud est plus générateur de reponses des trotters 😏

moi j ai vu que tu as ecrit Angkor Wat Angkor Wat sans preciser les lieux. Je te conseil un joyaux du Cambodge qui se situe a 30km de Siem Reap: Bantaey Srei. Une matinee la bas ou meme une journee suffit. De plus t as le village flottant (un peu cher quand meme) juste a cote de Siem Reap. Apres y a plusieurs visite qui ne sont pas trop connue de la plupart des gens qui viennent au Cambodge comme Phnom Santuk (a 30km de Kompong Thom), Phnom Pro et Phnom Srei a Kompong Cham, la province Mondolkiri et Ratanakiri.
Le tigre compte sur la forêt, la forêt compte sur le tigre (proverbe Cambodgien)
Je compte visiter le cambodge durant un prochain voyage.
Je profite d'être à BKK pour visiter Angkor et les environ en 3-4 jours (dont le tonlé sap) pour avoir assez de temps pour bien decouvrir la thailande mais je ne fais pas une croix sur le cambodge, loin de là!
Je commence à penser qu'il vaut mieux passer plus de temps au cambodge (1 journée de plus au tonlé sap notemment) et donc "sacrifier" Kanchanaburi...
Kanchanaburi vaut elle réellement le coût?
Sanglaburi n'est elle pas plus interessante?

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.

Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??
