Nous partons cet été pour quatre bonnes semaines en Indonesie. Nous pensons atterir à Bali (incontournable...) et découvrir également une ou deux autres îles selon le temps que nous passerons ici et là.
J'ai lu pas mal de discussions, et je n'arrive pas à faire un choix. Alors je me dis que quelques conseils seront les bienvenus.
On aime: - la plongéela randonnée (on veut au moins voir un volcan) en montagne de préférence, ou dans la jungle. La nature sauvage en général.les templesles choses les plus simples et "authentiques" possibles: se déplacer en transport local, dormir dans des losmen, prendre le temps de partager des moments sympas avec les gens...
J'ai d'abord pensé faire Bali-Lombok-Sulawesi, et puis j'ai lu des choses sur Flores (la croisière Lombok-Rinca, ça fait rêver), et là ça m'a donné envie, puis j'ai lu des posts sur Sumatra, et là encore, dilemne...
Quels seraient vos conseils pour un voyage pas trop speed, combinant un peu tous nos goûts? J'ai vraiment du mal à me décider, d'autant que sorti de Lombok et Bali, les guides parlent peu des autres îles, donc dur de se faire un avis.

Je sais que tout est très personnel, mais en lisant les différents posts, je n'arrive pas à me décider car tout semble superbe. Et puis ce qui me fait le plus peur, c'est le temps. Je ne veux pas me speeder, et j'ai peur de prévoir quelque chose de trop long. Donc si vous avez des suggestions: comment organiser grosso modo 4 semaines, en incluant Bali et un advanced open water? Bali-Sumatra? Bali-Lombok? Bali-Flores? Bali-Sulawesi? Bali-Lombok-Flores?
Je ne me rends pas compte du temps à passer à chaque endroit, donc...
Ah oui, une autre question pour les passionnés: faut-il être un très bon plongeur pour se risquer aux alentours de Komodo? Et où passer l'advanced? Bali ou ailleurs?

Bali ça me parait "incontournable" quand même pour une premiere en Indo.
Si tu aimes la plongée et les trekk je te recommende chaudement Lombok, l'ascension du Rinjani vaut vraiment le coup ! Pour plonger il y les Gili, même si bcp de coraux on été détruit c'est pas mal quand même. A Bali tu peux aussi plonger à Amed ou Candi Dasa. A mon avis le trip en bateau depuis Lombok jusqu'à Flores en passant par Komodo vaut le coup, mais je n'ai pas eu le temps de le faire...

J'ai lu ton carnet de voyage (super!), et l'ascencion du Rinjani fait envie. A ton avis, combien de temps pour Bali-Lombok?
Et oui effectivement la croisière vers Rinca semble sympa, donc peut être Flores si c'est possible. Et dans ce cas, que privilégier à Lombok et à Flores pour ne pas trop courir?

Lors de notre premier voyage en Indonésie en 2004 (4 semaines) nous avons commencé notre périple par Java : Joggiakarta, Borobudur, volcans Bromo et Kawa Jien. Ensuite, qq jours à Bali (Ubud) et sommes partis une petite semaine au Pays Toraja (Sulawesi) que nous avons adoré. Puis retour sur Bali (Jimbaran) avant de rentrer.
Nous avons bien aimé la ville de Joggiakarta, le lever du soleil le matin sur Borobudur ou nous étions les premiers sur le site. Les 2 volcans sont aussi des moments magiques.
En 2005, nous sommes retournés en Indonsie et nous avons fait Lombok (tour de l'île, nous avions loué une voiture). C'est une île superbe très différente de Bali, bcp plus authentique, très peu de touristes. Nous n'avons pas eu le temps de faire le Rinjani, stop au village de Senaru. Nous avons bien aimé les plages de Kuta Lombok, les rizières et les petits villages vers Tetebatu. Ensuite, nous sommes partis qq jours sur les iles Gili (paradisiaque).
Retour sur Bali ou nous sommes allés à Amed, Tirtatangua, Ubud (2ème fois), temple de Besakih, plages de Jimbaran, Uluwatu, etc ... Nous avons cette année là fait l'ascension du volcan Batur pour voir le lever du soleil et c'était génial.
En 2006, nous avons passé 4 semaines en Thailande et cette année nous repartons pour 4 semaines en Août en Indonésie avec au programme : FLORES et re Bali pour ce qu'il nous reste à voir ....
Je pense qu'il faut savoir en Indonésie prendre le temps de faire chaque île et ne pas vouloir en faire trop car on passe à côté de plein de choses et c'est vraiment dommage. Le peuple Indonésien est adorable, Bali, c'est sympa, effectivement à certains endroits il y a un peu plus de monde mais ce n'est pas gênant. Au pays Toraja, il faut prendre le temps de faire les petits villages qui sont moins connus que ceux situés tout près de Rantépao. Lombok est une île encore préservée. Les Gili sont bien pour profiter de la mer, de la plongée et pour ne rien faire ...
A votre disposition pour d'autres renseignements puisque nous sommes "voisines" (de Chambéry).

Pour gagner du temps à Lombok je te recommende de louer un petit Katana (4x4). Idéalement, surtout si tu veux faire l'ascension du Rinjani, il faut y passer 15j. En zappant un stop (par exemple celui dans l'Est de Lombok) et éventuellement aussi en zappant Gili Nangu (pour se reposer du voyage avant d'attaquer le Rinjani c'est pas mal, 2j max), mais il faut aller à Kuta Lombok (3/4j) / Rinjani (4j) (commence depuis Sembalun Lawan!) puis qqs jours sur une des Gilis (3/4j) ça fait environ 11/14j sur place.
Peut être jouable d'enchainer sur le trip en bateau vers Flores en pasant par Rinca et Komodo (4j de bateau, mais il ne part que 2 fois voir une fois, voir pas du tout par semaine et aussi en fonction de la date du vol retour vers Bali (pas tous les jours)) puis retour en avion directement vers Bali.
Après il reste donc 15j au mieux ou 10j à Bali ce qui est quand même un peu court. La location de voiture te fait gagner du temps egalement à Bali, mais y'a plus de traffic 😉
A mon avis, si tu choisi ce trip tu aviseras en fonction du bateau vers Flores (date de départ et date du vol retpour vers Bali), un peu comme nous en fait on avait 3 semaines)

C'est noté, mais j'avoue que louer une voiture m'ennuie un peu: le budget plongée est déjà élevé (bon, ok, tout est relatif... sans comparaison avec l'Europe...), et je n'ai pas vraiment envie de conduire (je rentre juste d'Inde, et ça m'a calmée, pour ceux qui connaissent🤪). J'hésite encore, mais je garde en mémoire le circuit que tu proposes, et je me permetrai peut être de te poser d'autres questions lorsque tout celà se confirmera.
Partirou, ton site me fait rêver à chaque fois que j'y fait un tour... J'ai vu tes magnifiques photos de Bali et je suis bien contente de lire qu'un baroudeur comme toi a vraiment accroché en Indonésie, ça me donne encore plus envie d'y aller! Marrant on etait exactement dans la meme sitution (on avait deja fait la Malaisie et Bali).... finalement on a décidé de retourner en Indo et de se concentrer sur Lombok, puis qqs jours à bali... quand on y a gouté une fois.... 😛
Ton site est vraiment SUPER. Les photos sont magnifiques (j'ai regardé principalement celles de l'INDONESIE et ça donne vraiment envie d'y retourner). J'attends d'avoir les commentaires en Avril sur ton voyage et je me permettrai sans doute de te recontacter afin d'avoir des adresses d'hôtels car il y a en qq uns qui ont l'air bien sympathiques (jardin, piscine ...).
Pour aller au pays Toraja, on avait pris un vol au départ de Denpasar/Makassar avec Garuda, par contre je ne me souviens plus exactement du prix mais je pourrai demander à des amis qui ont fait le même itinéraire que nous en 2006. Le pays Toraja vaut vraiment le détour.
Nous avons bien aimé LOMBOK ou nous avons pris le temps de faire le tour en louant une voiture à Sengiggi. J'ai qq adresses d'hôtels sympas si celà peut t'intéresser.

Les îles que j'ai visité lors de mon voyage en Indonésie sont : Gili Travangan et Gili Meno (Lombok) ; Bali ; l'Est de Java.
Mes conseils : Ne pas rater le Bromo et le Kawah Ijen ; L'accès au Kawah Ijen en individuel est compliqué ! J'expliquerai clairement mon aventure dans mon futur récit ; Yogyakarta est une bonne étape s'il vous passez par là ; Borobodur est à voir ; Gili Travangan est trop bruillant à mon goût, mais il y a possibilité de trouver du calme (l'île est grande) ; Gili Meno, celle que nous avons adoré, bien plus calme. Fonds marins plus ou moins intactes ; Bali... je pensais passer vite fait à Bali (2 à 4 jours)... nous y sommes resté 10 jours...

Salut, bon, je te conseille, avec tout ce que tu dis aimer faire : Bali et Flores. tu auras alors une très bonne vue d'emsenble. Tu pouras jouir de la plongée et aller voir les dragons de Komodo à Flores. Pour la plongée, c'est à Labuanbajo que ça se passe, sites reconnus mondialement. Pour les dr. de komodo, aller faire le trek de 2h sur rinca, très tôt le matin, 8h0am, sinon tu ne verras pas grand dr. de komodo hehehe ! Pour le volcan, va voir l'incroyable gunung Kelimutu à moni, tu peux avoir un bon aperçu sur notre site web ci-bas, les photos. aussi, tu y trouveras beaucoup d, info sur notre itinéraire, etc. Pour la jungle les montagnes, paysages à cpuper le souffle tu seras vraioment très très bien servie sur Flores!
Apparement tu recherches plutot le cote tranquille de l`Indonesie.
Tu ne seras pas decue car le pays regorge de coins sauvages a souhait.
Il y meme des endroits de Kalimantan ou Papua qui sont encore des zones noires sur les cartes...
Un itineraire relativement tranquille est de prendre un avion pour Medan, et d`aller ensuite a Padang en passant par le lac Toba.
Ensuite tu peux prendre un bateau ou un petit avion et aller sur les iles Nias, Simeule ou carrement Mentawai.
Ce sont des endroits assez difficlement accessibles mais vraiment proteges, et en aucun cas comparables a Bali ou lombock

Plus sérieusement, je pense effectivement que Sumatra est ce qui ME conviendrait le mieux. Mais comme on voyage à 2, et que mon copain veut Bali, je pense qu'on va essayer de coupler avec une Ile plus proche.
Ce qui ne m'empêchera pas de revenir pour voir Sumatra et Borneo dès que possible, c'est sûr.
En parlant des Mantawai, j'avais vu l'emission où P.Timsit partait passer une semaine en compagnie des hommes-fleurs. Je voyais ça comme une expérience unique au monde, trop de chance...
Naïve! En lisant le routard, je me suis aperçue que c'était une excursion proposée au commun des touristes. Je me suis sentie bien bête, lol!!!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
