J'ai le projet de voyager pendant 6 mois de octobre 2015 à mars 2016 en Asie du Sud Est et Océanie.
Avant de demander ma disponibilité et de lancer ce projet, j'aimerais m'assurer de sa faisabilité et le partage de votre expérience me serait très utile.
Je souhaite commencer par le Vietnam, le Laos et le Cambodge pendant 3 mois puis poursuivre en Australie et Nouvelle-Zélande pendant 3 mois également.
Dans quel ordre me conseillez-vous de visiter ces 3 pays d'Asie ?
J'ai pensé à :
- Vol Paris/Hanoï
- Nord-Vietnam
- Laos
- Cambodge
- Sud Vietnam
- Remonter au Nord du Vietnam
- Vol d'Hanoï vers l'Australie
Cela vous parait-il réalisable en 3 mois ? J'ai du mal à me rendre compte des distance, et la durée des traversées par voie terrestre.
Commencer par le nord du Vietnam, climat OK en octobre (peut-etre frais dans les montagnes, donc petite laine indispensable); Hanoi, Along, les montagnes du nord ; passer au Laos par Dien Bien Phu (bus direct Sapa - DBP par example); descendre le Laos, passer sur Siem Reap, les temples d'Angkor, PhnomPenh, bateau rapide PP-Chau Doc, le delta du Mékong de CD à Saigon (4 jours par ex), 2j Saigon et remonter sur Nha Trang, Hoi An, Hue, Ninh Binh (pour la superbe baie d'Along terrestre - 2-3 jours - train de nuit Hue-Ninh Binh)-Hanoi. 3 mois sont amplement suffisants.
Attention ; vous entrez 2 fois au Vietnam donc il vous faut un visa 3 mois entrées multiples. Comme vous arrivez par avion, le visa à l'arrivée à l'aéroport de Hanoi avec lettre d'invitation préalable est le mieux

Je suis inquiète par rapport aux visas : ne vaut-il mieux pas demander le visa pour le Vietnam avant mon départ?
Pour le Laos, il n'est valable qu'un mois donc je ne peux pas le demander en avance : est-il possible d'en obtenir à la frontière terrestre? Sachant que je n'aurais pas de billet d'avion retour, ça ne posera pas de problème?
Pour le Cambodge, si je le demande avant mon départ, il me semble que je dois donner mes dates exactes d'arrivée et de durée de séjour ce qui me semble compliqué.
Mon autre interrogation concerne le fait que je vais voyager seule : cela vous semble-t-il "risqué" dans ces pays?

Le visa lao se prend à la frontière comme le cambodgien, pas besoin de visa à l'avance. Si vous entrez au Vietnam par voie aérienne, le visa à l'arrivée est impec et facile à avoir en demandant à une agence viet la lettre d'invitation (formulaire en ligne sur le site web des agences - voir les multiples explications à ce sujet sur le forum ) ; cela vous permet de le demander plus tard, quand vous etes absolument sure de la date d'arrivée au Vietnam (le visa courre depuis votre date d'arrivée réelle, pas de celle marquée sur la lettre d'invitation, donc si vous arrivez 3 jours après la date marquée, vous perdez 3 jours de séjour) et vous ne pouvez pas arriver avant cette date.
Aucun danger dans ces pays, et vous ne serez jamais seule vu que ça grouille de touristes où vous allez

voici le circuit que personnellement je ferais, mais ce n'est qu'une possibilité parmi d'autres:
-Arrivée Hanoi -- "descente" du Vietnam jusqu'à Saïgon.
- Passage au Cambodge: Sihanoukville - Phnom Pehn - Battambang - Siem Reap - Kompong Cham
-Passage au Laos par les Sud (10 000 îles - plateau des Bolovens) puis remontée par Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang.
- Passage en Thaïlande par le Nord ( Huay Xai) et "descente" sur Bangkok.
En tout cas dans un sens comme dans l'autre, ce sont 3 merveilleux pays que tu vas visiter. En trois mois tu auras vraiment le temps toute l richesse qu'ils ont à offrir.

Je me pose aussi la question du de l'ordre du parcours Vietnam/Laos/Cambodge et espère avoir un éclaircissement.
Dans les environs du 15 mars 2017, nous quitterons la Birmanie pour continuer notre périple en Asie du Sud-Est (retour prévu le 29 juin depuis Bangkok - billets d'avion réservés).
Dans quel sens nous conseillez-vous d'effectuer le tour pour éviter au maximum la pluie?
Nous avions pensé faire ça:
-15 mars: Passage de la frontière terrestre de Myawaddy (Myanmar) /Mae Sot (Thaïlande)
-du 15 au 18 mars: traversée de la Thaïlande jusque Chiang Mai (nous avons déjà bcp voyagé en Thaïlande)
-le 19 mars: Passage de la frontière terrestre de Chiang Khong (Thaïlande)/Huay Xai (Laos)
-du 19 mars au environs du 10 avril: Laos
-vers le 10 avril: passage au Cambodge
-du 10 avril jusqu'aux environ du 10 mai: Cambodge
-du 10 mai jusque fin juin: Vietnam
Qu'en pensez-vous? Avez-vous un autre itinéraire à conseiller compte-tenu de notre contrainte météo?

AU MINIMUM ' jours à Siem Reap
2 jours Phnom Penh, puis bateau rapide Phnom Penh-CHAU DOC (attention il vous faut un visa viet préalable, pas de visa à la frontière)
Chau Doc-Saigon en 4-5 jours (Long Xiuyen + ferry ile du Tigre), Cai Be, 2 jours Saigon puis remonter sur Hoi An (vol Saigon-Danang; très long en train !!!), Hue (train ou mieux voiture pour vistes en route), Ninh Binh (Tam Coc - train de nuit Hue-Ninh Binh)), Hanoi (2 j minimum), Along et les fantastiques montagnes du Nord (Sapa, Bac Ha- etc.)

Je commence la préparation de mon prochain voyage en 2017.
Nous sommes retraités ma femme et moi et voyageons en indépendant. Nous avons choisi de visiter le LAOS , VIET-NAM, Cambodge (ANKOR) sur une durée de 1 mois 1/2 du 25/09 au 6 novembre. Les dates ne sont pas arrêtées définitivement.
Nous sommes du Sud-Ouest et partirions de Toulouse via Bangkok : passage au Cambodge pour visiter Ankor (3j) puis direction le Laos du Sud au Nord (circuit à définir) si possible passage en Chine dans la province du Yunnan ( rizieres de Yuanyan) puis Viet Nam. Faisable sur cette durée ? Si oui, quelles sont les incontournables pour préparer le circuit ? Voyageons en bus + vols intérieurs.
Pouvez-vous me donner votre avis avant d'aller plus loin sur ce projet ? Est-ce une bonne période pour voir les rizieres avant la récolte ?

Vous n'aurez jaamis assez de temps pour faire QUATRE pays, et non 3 puisque vs voulez aller également en Chine. D'autre part, quoique vous faisiez, vous allez vous heurter au problème des typhons et grandes inodations dans le Centre du Vietnam (Hue et Hoi An) en sept-oct.

Tout d'abord , je tiens à vous remercier d'avoir répondu rapidement !
En analysant votre suggestion de circuit, je m'aperçois qu'il est déraisonnable d'envisager de parcourir 4 pays (avec la province du Yunnan en Chine) en un mois 1mois 1/2
Je dois faire des choix et revoir la durée de mon voyage :
J'envisage de prolonger d'une semaine soit jusqu'au 13/11 et d'abandonner le Yunnan. De plus, en ce qui concerne le Cambodge, je ne consacrerai que 3 jours pour la découverte d'Ankor.
Je reviens sur la période du voyage : au regard des typhons et inondations au centre du V.N. est-il judicieux de conserver ces dates pour les autres régions du V.N et du Laos, ou bien est-il préférable de décaler sur Octobre et novembre ou décembre , sachant que dans mes incontournables et priorités se sont les rizières au Laos et au V.N (Mu Can Chai et autres)? Je souhaiterais les découvrir avant la récolte.
Le circuit que vous m'avez préparé est particulièrement riche et varié, un vrai régal en perspective !
Outre les incontournables, si vous avez d'autres pistes "hors des sentiers battus", des endroits insolites, avec des rencontres avec les habitants, je suis preneur. Quant à l'hébergement, nous ne recherchons pas le luxe et nous sommes habitués à dormir parfois chez l'habitant. Ce fut le cas en Amérique Latine depuis deux ans.
Une dernière question concernant le trajet de Da Nang à Ho Chi Min peut-on le faire en train ? levol coute 200 euros par personne ! ou en bus (combien de temps ?)

Hue et Hoi An, c'est 5 jours, facilement utilisables dans le Nord ou le Sud, donc vs vérifiez juste la météo avant de partir vers le Sud et vs décidez en conséquence. En nov/déc, le riz est coupé
Le train Da Nang-Sai gon, c'est interminable !!!! Prenez l'avion, quitte à rogner sur d'autres dépenses

Retraités, nous partons ma femme et moi du 25 septembre au 13 novembre.Nous avons les billets d'avion Toulouse - Bangkok et Bangkok Toulouse pour ces dates.
Arrivés à Bangkok, nous prendrons le jour même (le 26/09) un vol pour Hanoi pour visiter le nord du Vietnam dans un premier temps (récolte du riz) puis le centre et enfin le sud. (avions et bus sur 3 semaines)
Nous prendrons l'avion pour Siem Reap à partir de Ho CHi Minh. Après la visite d'Ankor, (4 j)nous souhaitons passer la frontière terrestre pour nous ren dre au Laos : région des 4 000 iles, Champassak, Paksé, Vientiane, Vang Vieng puis Luang Prabang. (18 j)
Retour en avion de L.P à Bangkok.
Pouvez-vous me dire les formalités à accomplir en terme de visa : combien de visa, type de visa, (plus de 15 jours au Vietnam), a quel moment dois-je les solliciter (avant le départ ? à l'aéroport ? à la frontière ?

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
