j avais lu à un moment donné que ces bornes étaient uniquement pour les personnes ayant déjà fait un séjour aux usa ET avec le même personne..
Puis j'ai lu que ce n'était pas obligatoire que cela soit avec le même passeport mais un séjour depuis 2008..
et maintenant plus rien de marqué mais cela semble coincer...
Du coup ..à vérifier ..ce qu'il en est réellement ..
Après oui..il peut y avoir un problème de photos, d'empreintes.. de pas dans la base etc etc..
Cela m'est arrivé même à marseille d'être refusé au contrôle paraphe.. (sans raison apparente).. etq ue cela ait parfaitement marché les fois avant et les fois après!

Je pense que cela dépend du jour, et de l'heure de l'atterrissage. Nous ne sommes probablement pas arrivés en même temps que d'autres gros porteurs.
Nous avons doublé d'autres voyageurs dans les couloirs, en faisant attention de ne bousculer personne.
Pour notre part, arrivés le 1er avril à Los Angeles (non ce n'est pas une blague), tout le monde était dirigé vers les machines sans exception... Le passeport de mon fils a été scanné sans problème, mais on n'arrivait pas à scanner le mien! Une employée est venue m'aider et à la 3ème tentative, elle a réussi... ensuite ils séparaient les arrivants en 2 files... il y avait une énorme file sur la droite... mais nous avons eu de la chance, l'employée nous a dirigé vers la gauche où il n'y avait personne. Aucune question, on est passé en 2 minutes et on nous a souhaité de bonnes vacances!
C'est vrai qu'on était venu il y a moins de 2 ans et en plus, l'employé nous a dit, vous n'êtes que 2 alors passez là! On s'est demandé s'il n'y avait pas une file pour les personnes voyageant seules... et comme la file était vide, on a été dirigé là! En bref, on n'a pas tout compris, mais on était super content de passer si vite 😎! Comme dit précédemment, chaque passage est différent!

Ouf, merci de ton témoignage, je suis rassuré de voir que je ne suis pas le seul dans ce cas, car au vu des autres commentaires où il ne se passe jamais rien, je commençais à douter de moi-même.
Donc c'est bien ce que j'avais compris sur place, bug informatique. Tu as eu de la chance de n'attendre qu'une heure.
Ce que je trouve aberrant c'est que pour un bug dont nous ne sommes pas responsables on soit envoyé dans une sorte de zone de transit et traités comme des indésirables.

Le passage aux machines n'est en effet pas obligatoire.
Il y a 2 possibilités:
- Soit les machines sont réservées aux seconds passage ESTA ou citoyens US et vous ne passez que devant un agent de l'immigration pour valider votre passage à la machine et c'est assez rapide. Les 1er passage d'ESTA et visas doivent eux passer devant un officier des borders qui prend lui même les empreintes (Vu à San Francisco et New york)
- Soit les machines servent toutes au pré-checkin même si vous avez un ESTA neuf et seul les pays à visas doivent passer devant un opérateur. Le passage devant une personne des borders étant donc simplifié pour tous les estas (Vu à Miami).
Il suffit de lire les panneaux quand vous arrivez aux border control :)

Nous les avons utilisés à SFO l'année dernière. Par contre effectivement, c'est en voyant certains Français montrer leurs passeports à un agent au bout de la file des résidents que l'on s'est posé la question. Je suis allé lui montrer mon passeport et il nous a dirigé vers les machines.

Sinon, pour éviter tout ce stress à l'arrivée aux USA, il y a toujours la possibilité de passer par l'aéroport de Dublin où tous les vols vers les Etats-Unis bénéficient de la procédure "pre-clearance", c'est-à-dire le passage de toutes les formalités d'immigration et douane avant l'embarquement. Conséquence directe : à l'arrivée vous vous retrouvez au terminal domestique et non au terminal international. Vous n'avez plus qu'à récupérer vos bagages et sortir de l'aéroport sans autre formalité. Expérimenté en septembre dernier sur un vol Dublin - Atlanta, et c'est un réel confort. L'ensemble des formalités à Dublin ne n'a pris que 20 minutes : sécurité aéroport pour passer dans la zone transit, ensuite sécurité américaine aux normes TSA pour accéder dans la partie de l'aéroport dédiée aux vols US, et enfin bornes automatiques et passage final devant l'officier d'immigration. Tous les passagers bénéficiant d'un ESTA passent aux bornes, peu importe que ce soit en mode "returning" ou "First esta". L'officier d'immigration est souverain dans sa décision d'autoriser ou non l'accès au territoire US, le passage devant lui est donc obligatoire même si vous passez par les bornes automatiques.
Bon maintenant Dublin n'a pas autant de liaisons avec les Etats-Unis que Londres ou Paris... mais c'est quand même bien facile et je suis prêt à recommencer.

Bah le panneau est clair: Si tu as un ESTA qui n'est jamais rentré aux US, c'est l'autre queue.
Dans votre cas, rien ne vous empêche d'aller à 2 dans la queue principale et de ne pas prendre les machines. Ce n'est qu'une facilité, pas une obligation.
De plus, avec cette facilité, il y a souvent plus de monde aux machines qu'aux guichets donc tu passes en moins de 30min :)
On est bien loin de l'époque où tu pouvais attendre 2H pour passer le border control.
Concernant Dublin, quoi qu'il arrive, il n'est pas intéressant de faire une escale.
Tous les"foreign" passports étaient dirigés sans exception vers les guichets avec personnel !
Peut être une consigne temporaire mais je suis certains que le panneau indiquait bien cette possibilité pour y être passé il y a 2mois et l avoir vu en live. Ou alors vous avez atterri sur un autre terminal que le notre :)
Cette année ma femme a du renouveler son passeport et donc refaire un ESTA.
Nous allons aux Etats-Unis chaque été depuis 2012, je ne sais pas si nous pourrons passer aux machines. Nous sommes 3 (dont un enfant). Il y a quand même peu d'explication sur leur site internet.
Pour le moment chaque année nous avons fait le passage classique pour l'immigration, nous avons bien vu les machines, mais nous n'avions pas trop envie de prendre le risque de se tromper, car dans les aéroports (Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas) ce n'est vraiment pas clairement indiqué pour qui elles sont destinées, je crois même qu'il était indiqué US Citizen. Et nous n'avons jamais été orienté sur ces machines par quelqu'un.
Je crois que cette année nous prendrons les guichets. On a les premiers sièges de la classe eco, et puis avec l'habitude on arrive souvent à être parmi les premiers de l'avion à passer. Et avec un peu de chance notre avion sera le seul à atterrir à cet horaire 😉

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I’ll explain my situation.
Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me.
First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason.
So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then.
I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic.
Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long?
This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border.

I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. On her ticket, it only has her maiden name (e.g., Martine DUPOND).
On her passport, it’s written as Martine DUPOND épouse AVRY.
No issues for travel, I hope I did the right thing with the ticket?
Then for the ESTA, is just Martine DUPOND enough, or do I need to include the "épouse AVRY" part like on the passport?
