Marloth Park: What transportation options are there inside the park (without a vehicle)?

Hi there, we’ll be staying in Marloth Park in February 2026. We’re booking local providers for safaris and excursions, but we don’t want to rent a car (airport shuttle, safety concerns, driving on the left). We’d love to get around by bike or another way inside the park (we have young kids). What solutions would you recommend? We’ll be at Jabula Hotel, about 6 km from the bike rental shop—is there another option? Inside the park, there’s no vehicle rental available.

Hi, You could ask your hotel to have bikes delivered to you or take a taxi to the rental place. I’ve been there and will return at the end of October—the car is still the best way to get around. The area is really quiet for left-hand driving, and in Kruger Park, it gives you true independence. I saw Europcar in Malelane.

Thanks. The issue is that my husband doesn’t want to drive from the airport to Marloth Park. We’ll take a shuttle. For bike rentals, for 4 people, it’s 15 € per bike for 7 hours—more expensive than a vehicle. I’ll look into a taxi.

You can also rent a car in Nelspruit. Driving there is easier, and it’s not far from Marloth Park. The roads are wide and easy to navigate. I can’t imagine getting around South Africa without a car—you get used to driving on the left, even if sometimes you accidentally hit the windshield wipers instead of the turn signal. 😉

Totally agree. 😉

I’d add that driving in South Africa is way easier than in the Paris region, around Marseille, or—worse—Italy.

I'm not sure driving in Marseille is any calmer than in Italy 🤪 😏

Driving on the left isn't actually that complicated, and even less so with an automatic (though I still find myself more to the right—middle of the road—than I really am 🤪 ... I know it, so I correct it 😎).

Around Marseille, it’s actually worse for pedestrians! 🤪
