Buying babouches: shops in Ouarzazate, Agadir, or Marrakech?

Hi, I need to buy about ten pairs of babouches. Do you know if there are any shops around Ouarzazate or Agdz where I could find them? Maybe even cheaper than in Marrakech?

Thanks.

hi there.

the two babouche capitals: Taroudant or Fez.

Good evening,

There’s much less choice in Ouarzazate than in the Marrakech souk. I’ve bought a few pairs myself, and you’ll see—some are absolutely gorgeous! 😊

I know one in Ouarzazate with unbeatable prices guaranteed. If you find it cheaper elsewhere, I’ll never come back to the forum again! 🙂

" ...and a third: Tafraoute... "

Exactly. More richly decorated with local patterns and with a "small heel," it's not easy to find "authentic" ones anywhere other than the Tafraout region... (and that's a good thing...)
TC Tchao Veteran ·
... and on top of that, prices in Tafraout are still reasonable, unlike Marrakech or those sky-high starting prices. I turn my babouches and keep moving 😕
JC Jcaud Veteran ·
Totally agree with what you said about Marrakech. As you mentioned, the babouche capital is actually Tafraout—they offer very reasonable prices since the babouches are made right there.

To be honest, they’re everywhere and the price varies with the quality. I preferred the ones in Tafraoute. Great value for money, and you don’t need to haggle for hours—prices are fair right off the bat.

Hey, answering your question—yes, in Ouarzazate and Agadir you can buy babouches just like in any Moroccan city. If you're careful, you’ll probably find them cheaper than in Marrakech. Take your time, they’re everywhere, and this won’t be your last pair ;)

Alain specifically asked if he could buy babouches in Ouarzazate, Agdz, or Marrakech.

And here I go answering Fez, Tafraout, Taroudant...

Read the question, for goodness' sake! :)

Hey there,

Maybe you should actually read the question properly, huh?

Is that what you’re reading? Hmm—stop the rosé right now… or put your glasses on🙂

For your information, I don’t like rosé and I don’t wear glasses......except 😎

This question is repeated above all the answers 😛

I’d also advise Alain, if he’s in the area, to stop by Tafraoute for babouches

Hi Alain

The best value for money is TAFRAOUTE, but with stitched soles for everyone!

In AGADIR, there's ROBERT at the "Municipal Market" (a Moroccan who lives in Alsace). His prices are more than fair, and the last pair I bought from him in March 2008 (with stitching) are still used daily as slippers by a retiree—they're like new!

Best regards.

AL Alain ·
hi everyone, and thanks for your replies. Just to clarify, as I mentioned in my post, we’ll be around Ouarzazate, Agdz, and even Tinerhir.

Thanks, Alain

Conclusion: the moderation team doesn’t know Agdz, and you didn’t read Alain’s question:

PS: Don’t you like a nice chilled Gris de Boulaouane with your apéritif? 😕

yes, but here's the thing—the question title could’ve made you think he was going on a tour. That’s why we took the road less traveled 😏 Buying babouches: shops in Ouarzazate, Agadir or Marrakech?

Hi,

You can find them everywhere, but in Tafraoute and Taroudant you can get them custom-made.

Hi! You can also try buying them online! That’s where I find my babouches. I can’t mention the site name here, but it’s a well-named and really nice site. Google is your friend, as they say!

* ***the web! well, that's where I find my babouches***

It's true that e-commerce in Morocco is really popular, especially for babouches you can find in any souk.

Me, on "khaîma-fissa-fissa.souk," they deliver cardamom, cumin, and my favorite *Vache qui rit* (even more so after the World Cup with the Blues...) with the "olives" flavor....

I don’t like this one much—I think it tastes like everything or almost everything except olives😕

Hi Michel,

You're really living up to your reputation as a foodie and cook!

Speaking of which, in Mirleft, at the hotel taken over by two young guys who wanted to innovate, we were served a "Laughing Cow tagine"—we regretted not booking with Damien sooner! !

After spreading it on the bread, I add a drizzle of olive oil and a twist of (Sichuan) pepper from the mill....

Okay, hearing it like that, I’ve got to try it... I’ll give it a go... I have to say, when it comes to food, I’d tend to trust your judgment...🙂
MI Michagadir Veteran ·
Hey Claude and you... Right now, in Montpellier, it's more "squid à la Sétoise," "catigot," and other "aligot from Aubrac" (further north...) rather than tajine/kefta/cuscus... You have to live abroad for months to realize, when you come back home, that our cuisine is really varied, delicious, and, in the end, not too expensive... See you later... Michel

PS) For "La Vache qui Rit," you should also try the other two "flavors"... When you make a good vegetable soup, before blending it, it's good to add a portion of VQR... it makes it creamier.

Bye, bye!!!

I’ll try your recipe! Enjoy your meal and have a great stay in the country!

I’m also taking advantage of these great tips. I’m planning to buy some babouches and a few handmade items (candles, ashtrays, mini tagines...).

I’d love it if someone could let me know the price of babouches in Tafraout, since I might be buying around twenty of them. Thanks in advance!

Friend!

It’s friely here!

60 MAD for handmade leather babouches is already almost a steal! 😐
MI Michagadir Veteran ·
The ones in the photo don’t look "handmade" (no visible stitching on the sole). But 60 MAD seems like a very fair price. You’ve still got to feed the family, and "cheaper than free" is for tourists.
TA Tafakara Globetrotter ·
The one shown in the photo doesn’t look "handmade"

Totally agree with you—I wasn’t referring to the ones in the photo but to the B.T.T. made in Tafraout in general.
MA Mallau011 Regular ·
Thanks! Could you post a photo of these famous all-terrain babouches? By the way, I’m planning to buy about thirty pairs, so I should get a discount, right??
TA Tafakara Globetrotter ·
I guess I’d get a discount

No, because in Tafraout the prices are the same for everyone. 60 MAD is the minimum I’d pay for handmade babouches. You’ve got to recognize the true value of someone’s work.

Okay, thanks for the info!
