Hi there, The Nakasendo trail will take us to Narai. From there, we’d like to take the train to the Mount Fuji area. Which base would be the most convenient from Narai for a 2-day trip around Fuji? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hi there, Getting around this area is unfortunately a hassle because of the mountains and limited train lines. Juggling between Narai and Fuji using public transport is tricky. The easiest way is to backtrack via Nagoya, or alternatively Matsumoto. For a base, I recommend Fujinomiya—it’s super peaceful and has a stunning UNESCO museum about Mount Fuji. Fujiyoshida is also worth a visit, with more things to do, but it suffers from overtourism. Best to go in prepared! !

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve started looking into Fuji Kawaguchiko. The train ride from Narai will still take 5h40... and to get to Fuji Nomiya, you have to add another hour... Oh well, we’re way past that point anyway! I was wondering if the price of a taxi would be outrageous...😉 because by car it only takes 2h15 to Kawaguchiko and 2h45 to Fujinomiya... Though I guess there’d need to be taxis available in Narai, since it’s a village... Not sure...

According to Japan Travel, it takes 2h 11 to get from Narai to Kawaguchiko, and... I dare?... alright, I'll go for it... 67 k¥, which is 400 €.
