J'me présente m'appelle Antoine , 23 ans habitant une petite commune du Nord de la France juste à la frontière belge.
J'ai pour projet de parfaire mon anglais ( niveau plutôt correct ) et n'ayant aucune attache en France j'ai commencé à m’intéresse pour partir travailler un an au Etats-Unis.
Voici les questions aux quelles je n'ai aucune réponse précise, et j'ai par ailleurs beaucoup de mal ( même si certains diront : Google est ton ami ) à trouver une agence qui me permettrai de trouver logement et travail sur place.
Je ne suis plus étudiant depuis environs 5 ans et n'ai pas l'intention de repartir en stage ni suivre un séjour linguistique, je veux travailler et ainsi découvrir un autre mode de vie et une autre culture.
Alors je recherche des témoignages sur vos diverses expériences au states , les formalité administratives à accomplir , vos difficultés , vos craintes , vos souvenirs et surtout n’hésitez pas car rien ne me fera changer d'avis.
J’espère pouvoir me rendre à New-York ma destination phare depuis une bonne dizaine d'année étant un ancien parisien et voulant évoluer dans une des villes multi-culturelle qui soit.
Et bien sur j'espère aussi passer une semaine ou plus a Portland la ou réside une partie de ma famille que je n'ai vu qu'une fois en 23 ans.
Je ne sais pas quel genre de travail tu désires faire aux États-Unis mais la situation économique n'est pas ce quelle a déjà été. Beaucoup d'immigrants retournent dans leur pays.
Peut-être qu'en France vous voyez encore ce pays comme l'Eldorado ?
Le vol est trop important dans un voyage pour ne regarder que le prix.
N'ayant pas un niveau d'étude suffisant pour prétendre à un poste d’ingénieur, j’espère y trouver un travail comme serveur.
J'ai bien conscience que chaque pays à ses difficultés et je ne part pas pour y faire fortune malgré ce que la télé peux nous faire croire ;)
J'y voit surtout une excellente manière de perfectionner mon anglais et y découvrir une culture différente.
Si tu as une formation en hôtellerie-restauration ainsi que de l'expérience, tu peux postuler à distance auprès d'établissement (chaînes hôtelières, grands restaurants, etc.)
Une membre de ce forum, Roxy, a réussit à décrocher un contrat dans ce domaine à New York.
Il y aussi la possiblité de travailler à Orlando pour Chefs de France, ils recrutent en ce moment.

Les Etats-Unis n'étant pas dans l'espace Schengen, tu n'as pas le droit d'y travailler sans visa de travail.
Celui-ci n'est accordé que pour les postes spécialisés de haut niveau.
La seule solution est d'avoir un poste de haut niveau (Master, diplôme ingé, doctorat) ou d'en avoir obtenu un aux US ou d'avoir fait une spécialité qui n'existe que rarement aux US (pâtisserie).
Etre serveur n'est donc pas possible.
Si tu y vas en tant que touriste, tu dois justifier de l'argent sur ton compte en banque te permettant de vivre le temps de ton séjour. Si l'agent des douanes n'est pas satisfait, tu es refoulé à la frontière et renvoyé en France à tes propres frais.
(Et si tu étais un étranger qui vient en France, c'est encore pire.)
Pour perfectionner ton anglais en travaillant, il y a la GB mais attention c'est la crise et les postes sont beaucoup plus rares qu'avant.
Pourtant, il y avait un membre sur ce forum (RoxyFoxy) qui avait décroché un boulot dans un grand établissement hôtelier à la fin de son séjour à Chef de France. C'était l'employeur lui-même qui l'avait recrutée.
Cependant, dans son cas elle avait une formation en hôtellerie et plusieurs années d'expérience.
Oui, c'est ce que je veux dire par "formation spécialisée" :)
Serveur n'est pas une formation spécialisée - travailler dans un grand hôtel peut l'être selon le poste (ce qui suppose bi ou trilinguisme + formation de bon niveau dans le domaine, au moins BTS ou équivalent OU une formation en alternance dans un établissement de bon standing). De plus, certaines chaines françaises recrutent parmi leurs employés (Sofitel/Accord).
Dans ce cas précis, comme tu le dis, elle avait une formation lui permettant d'être recrutée par Disney, elle était capable de passer un entretien d'embauche en anglais, et elle a fait sa demande à partir de ce travail chez Disney pas à partir de la France.
Ce n'est pas le cas de notre forumeur, qui apparemment n'a pas un bon niveau d'anglais et souhaite donc l'améliorer (donc avant de pouvoir passer l'entretien d'embauche) et pas de diplôme en hôtellerie ou similaire si j'ai bien compris, donc ce programme n'est pas possible. Je pense que plus que le diplôme de départ c'est l'entretien d'embauche en anglais qui fait barrière.
Espérer un visa de travail pour être serveur ou tout autre petit boulot est impossible, qui plus est à New York.

After living for many years in the West (Belgium, Italy, Switzerland),
I’ve decided to return and settle in Cameroon, my home country.
Currently an entrepreneur in real estate and transport, I’m looking for a partner / partners / foundation to collaborate on an agriculture project, as I own 10 hectares of land.
The hectares have remained unused for years due to a lack of financial means, since the project requires what I’d call a considerable investment. As the main stakeholder, I have a minimal contribution to offer.

Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).

Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area. Anyway, that’s not the main point—could anyone explain the pros and cons of doing this job in Switzerland?
