Hi there! 🙂

I'm taking it slow—I'm only on day 5 of my Tucson to Bisbee leg.

We'd like to stop in Tombstone along the way. I've spotted Boot Hill Cemetery, the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, and around the visitor center: the O.K. Corral, Tombstone Historama, the Tombstone Epitaph, the Bird Cage Theatre, and the Crystal Palace Saloon. Is everything worth visiting, and is parking easy in Tombstone? If anyone has parking recommendations, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance!

As for Bisbee, I've noted the Queen Mine Tour, the Great Bisbee Stairs Climb, and the downtown tour. Outside of town, there's the Lavender Pit. Any other suggestions for things to check out?

Thanks so much! Marcalamar 🙂

I don’t recall any difficulties with parking in Tombstone. For sightseeing, the cemetery is an absolute must. It’s outside the town. At the entrance, they give you a little booklet that helps you follow a representative route and better understand life back then.

The downtown area is pretty small—everything can be done on foot. Stop by the Visitor Center and pick your activities. We did the Tombstone Historama (gives a great overview) and the reenactment of the O.K. Corral shootout (fun, and you don’t need to know English). We didn’t do the Bird Cage Theater because of the entrance fee, but it looked cool, and afterward, we thought we should’ve chosen the Theater over the Tombstone Historama.

Hi there,

A few old memories from a trip to Bisbee (March-April 2009), which we preferred over Tombstone—it felt a bit too "touristy" for our taste: - A truly massive excavation site, I think for copper mining, worth seeing as you pass by. - A small museum in town at the time, very informative about the origins of this charming little town and the lives of the miners. Other than that, since it’s so close to the Mexican border, we were stopped by a police patrol on our way back—trunk search included. Otherwise, further north toward Globe, the Apache Trail loop was pretty nice. Happy travels!

Good evening, It’s been several years since we last visited Tombstone. We had no trouble finding parking. I can confirm the cemetery is interesting. That day, there was a Western show with blank gunfire. Bisbee is more interesting and more authentic. On our way back to Tucson that day, we were searched by U.S. customs—they checked our papers, opened the trunk, and looked under the back seats to make sure we weren’t transporting anything illegal or hiding stowaways. This was during Trump’s first term.

Good evening! 🙂 We’re expecting to get checked. Ha ha ha, we’ll try to keep our luggage nice and tidy and flash our best smile if we get stopped. Marcalamar 🙂

Hello,

No trouble parking in Tombstone—it’s a museum town... or maybe a reconstruction, not sure.

Bisbee is livelier, and it’s worth checking out the border with Mexico.

The road checks are by the Border Patrol, so better have your passport with you if you get close to the border.

Hi Denis 🙂 We’re actually planning to stay in Bisbee. But the next day will be a long drive, and we won’t be getting close to the border 😕 Marcalamar 🙂

Just a heads-up that applies in Arizona and Texas: Border Patrol checkpoints aren’t right at the border—they’re on the roads leading to it, and they can be dozens and dozens of miles away. I’ve been through tons of these checkpoints—it’s no big deal. You just smile and say, “we are French citizens,” and that’s it…
