Mes présentes questions s'adressent particulièrement (mais pas exclusivement) aux plongeurs ayant une bonne connaissance des Visayas et des îles environnantes.
Je pars en Asie du sud-est une bonne partie de l'été. Je serai à Tagbilaran du 8 ou 9 juillet au 6 août au moins. Sur place, j'ai un engagement en temps que volontaire du lundi au jeudi. J'ai bouquiné un guide (plus ou moins) et me tiens informée sur le forum.
Je voudrais savoir quels sont les sites de plongée accessibles au départ de Tagbilaran. J'ai un peu de mal à évaluer les distances... En gros, où puis-je espérer aller si j'ai des week-end de 3 jours sans sacrifier trop en temps de transport? Je pensais initialement qu'il était possible de rallier Panglao pour une demi journée (Je ne travaillerai que l'après-midi) mais apparemment, tel n'est pas le cas.
Puis-je envisager d'aller à:Balicasag Island?Pamilacan Island ?Siquijor Island?Mindanao Island?Calibao Island?Oslob (in Cebu Island)?Donsol? (a priori très loin Donsol... Google map ne me l'indique pas dans les Visayas et j'ai pas de guide sous la main.)Y a-t-il moyen de se régaler sur Panglao même?Puis-je espérer aller ne serait-ce que nager dans les environs les plus proches de Tagbilaran ou de Loay ou Lila où je risque de passer un peu de temps aussi.En combien de temps puis-je atteindre Camiguin Island? Je pense prolonger de quelques jours mon séjour dans le coin avant de faire un tour en Indonésie mais ne parviens à quantifier le temps à passer dans chaque pays...
Ces destinations sont-elles aisées par la mer, faut-il pour certaines repasser par Cébu?
Quelles sont à votre avis les plus intéressantes? (Je n'ai pas reporté mes étoiles d'après lecture pour ne pas vous influencer 😛) Je voudrais faire du PMT et de la plongée bouteille. Mon budjet n'étant pas extensible à l'infini, l'idée est aussi de distinguer les lieux où la plongée bouteille en vaut le plus la peine...D'ailleurs, combien compter pour une plongée bouteille ou une journée organisée avec 2 ou 3 plongées sur un bateau? Y a-t-il beaucoup de plongées bouteilles intéressantes accessibles de la côte? Les coraux sont-ils abîmés?
J'aimerai bien voir les requins baleine à Oslob, un blog de voyageur m'indique qu'ils étaient bien là le 21 août dernier... mais je suis assez partagée dans un même temps car j'ai l'impression que nourrir ces animaux les dénature... s'ils ne migrent plus... Et puis il y a vraiment un côté zoo sur les vidéos que je viens de regarder... Bref, un dilemme éthique se présente... Satisfaire mon petit plaisir ou boycotter? Une opinion sur la question?
Les plongées de ce coin des Philippines rivalisent-elles avec la mer rouge? (manquerait plus que je sois déçue! 🤪) Je ne connais pour l'instant que la méditerrannée, le Sinaï et le sud de l'Egypte (Marsa Alam)...

de Tagbilaran, a la gare routière! 80 p. De Jagna a Bénoni(port de Camiguin) ca
dure 2h, prix:600p!Pour le snorkel , t'as Kibila Giant Clams Sanctuary, près de
Guinsiliban, Mantigue island et des fois White Sand Isl.(tout dépends du déplacement de l'ile par les marées) et d'autres sites comme Sunken Cemetary...L'idéal est de louer une moto!Le climat est sympa ici en Aout, ailleurs
il ne sera pas évident de faire de la plongée et du snorkel car les eaux seront

Pour Donsol, après avoir posté, je m'étais rendu compte que de toute façon ce n'était pas la saison. (en fait, j'ai trouvé ce spot en faisant une recherche sur les requins baleines et dans mon esprit il n'était pas loin d'Oslob)
J'avais vu la liaison de Jagna, si tu confirmes, c'est bien pratique! Tu as une idée de la durée entre Tagbilaran et Jagna en transports en commun? C'est quoi un van? (je m'y perds un peu en moyens de déplacements locaux...) Je n'aurais pas de véhicule personnel.
Si je comprends bien, tu es sur Caminguin, tu estimes qu'il faut rester combien de temps sur cette île pour ne pas repartir frustré? J'imagine que si, finalement, ça à l'air de se fait sur 3 jours, c'est sans doute mieux si je m'y rends en fin de séjour plus longuement... Caminguin est l'une des îles qui me fait de l'oeil et je suis contente de ces nouvelles. Je risque de te poser plus de questions par la suite...! 🙂
Je suis étonnée d'apprendre que les eaux sont troubles ailleurs (dans les Visayas) et pas à Caminguin. Comment expliques-tu cela? Est-ce à cause de la saison des Typhons et si oui, pourquoi Caminguin est-elle épargnée? Elle n'est pas si éloignée pourtant. Les eaux sont-elles tout le temps troubles ou c'est au petit bonheur la chance en fonction des vents? Un van est un minibus(14pers.),1h de trajet depuis la gare routière de Dao pour Jagna, pas loin du Island City Mall(hypermarket), il te dépose au port de Jagna, t'achete le billet sur place,600p! Si les fonds marins sont troubles , c'est a cause de la mousson(mais je n'étais jamais a cette période)...Camiguin est plus protégé, mais il n'est pas exclu des typhons...Je viens de passer près de 5 mois sur cette ile(en 2X), je reste encore 6 semaines, je ne m'en lasse pas...😎

Oui on peut aller à Panglao de Tagbilaran pour une demie journée. On peut aussi faire aller/retour à Balicasag dans la journée, en partant tôt le matin, snorkel la matinée, puis manger sur place et l'après midi re snorkel, puis rentrer à Panglao. Tu peux être rentré à Tagbilaran pour 18H00 ! Je n'ai pas fait de plongée à Balicasag donc je ne sais pas comment ça fonctionne... Quelques infos ici : http://balicasagdiveresort.boholshore.com/
J'ai passé trois semaines en mars 2009 dans les Visayas (Negros, Siquijor, Bohol).
Je pense qu'il est tout à fait faisable de faire Tagbilaran-Panglao dans la demi-journée avec une baignade en prime. Par contre, pour ce qui est de faire une plongée à Panglao dans le même temps, cela risque d'être un peu juste. Pour trois jours, tout est possible.
Mes plongées préférées ont été :
- Balicasag au départ d'Alona beach (Panglao),
- Paliton wall, Sunken island et Maite à Siquijor,
- Guinsoan à Malatapay (Negros),
- Apo island pour les coraux mais manque de poissons.
A Alona beach, j'ai testé le centre Scuba World.
Pour Negros, le bateau est direct en environ 1h30 au départ de Tagbilaran. De Dumaguete, il est possible de rallier les différents centres de plongée en bus. J'ai testé le centre Easy Diving tenu par un suisse (francophone) dans l'hôtel Thalatta.
Pour Siquijor, il faut d'abord aller à Dumaguete puis prendre un autre bateau. La traversée dure un peu moins d'une heure. Sur place, il faut louer une moto ou prendre un tricycle. J'ai testé le centre Sea Explorers dans l'hôtel Coco Grove à San Juan.
A l'époque, le prix des plongées allait de 1100 PHP à 1500 PHP (j'avais mon propre matériel).
Je peux aussi te parler de Palawan (mars 2012) mais, pour 3 jours, cela fait un peu loin.
Il y a de belles plongées aux Philippines mais il faut savoir quelques trucs :
1. Certains divemasters font leur plongée tous seuls et regardent juste de temps en temps si le groupe suit. D'autres cherchent les curiosités et prennent le temps de montrer leurs découvertes. Une fois, un divemaster est remonté sur le bateau et m'a laissé faire mon palier tout seul. Quand tu en as trouvé un bon, insiste pour faire les autres plongées avec lui.
2. Il ne faut pas hésiter à demander (et re-demander) à faire un site particulier. Certains sites, de par leur configuration (profondeur), sont interdits aux débutants. Comme il y a régulièrement des open water ou CMAS 1* dans le groupe, le centre de plongée préfèrera souvent contenter le maximum de monde.
Enfin, il y a aussi de très belles plongées de nuit.

Je reviendrais vers vous un peu plus tard, quand j'aurais réétudié les options mais en tout cas, c'est super de savoir que beaucoup de choses sont accessibles sur trois jours. En fin de séjour j'aurais plus de temps - à peu près une semaine j'imagine - Je vais voir quelle option je retiens.
Quelqu'un saurait-il me dire si certaines eaux sont plus transparentes que d'autres en août dans les Visayas? Est-ce une époque correcte pour la plongée? Ca n'a pas l'air d'être le meilleur moment... Vous en pensez quoi?
Ici sur Palawan, l'eau est claire en août (lannée dernière le mois a été splendide) mais le danger ce sont les méduses , j'en porte le douloureuses stygmates😠 (mais les petites iles aux alentour en sont exemptes😉)

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.
Are there any good options in July-August for great experiences in the area?

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...
I’m planning to get back into the bubbles somewhere this year.

For my trip to Thailand with two teens aged 13 and 16, do you have any info or tips to share? I’d like to go jet skiing, either in Phuket or Koh Samui, but I’d need at least two jet skis since there are three of us. Can my 16-year-old ride alone? We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

Compared to my buddy, I love macro photography (nudibranchs, etc.), so I’d also love any tips on that.

With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?
Dive centers you’d recommend?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

Any thoughts on the diving there?
So far, I haven’t had much luck with diving—at the Perhentians, it was pretty disastrous with water at 31°C 😵😫
I’d love to find a nice island where I can meet people (locals and travelers) because going from a group of six to solo at the end is going to feel weird.

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Donc, je planifie de passer l'hiver au sud de l'Europe, et ou vers les Balkans et j'aimerais savoir si c'est partout de la plongée en eau froide donc avec le drysuit et tout ou s'il y a des endroits qui sont superbes et ou je peux plonger avec un suit plus épais seulement même exemple en février et mars.
