Hi Hubert,
I’m really disappointed with Air Canada too.
They notified me that my Varadero–Montreal flight on October 28th is canceled, with no alternative offered. Nothing! I’m in Havana, not at an all-inclusive hotel, and I’m left to fend for myself for my return... My return ticket for the 27th, bought online with Transat, was expensive.
I contacted Air Canada for a claim, and I realize that Air Canada Vacations, Aeroplan, Air Canada, and Air Canada Rouge all work in silos: either it’s radio silence on Messenger, or they casually refer me to another company. Customer service my foot!
After two emails with detailed explanations from me, the claims department agreed to a refund (which I’m still waiting for).
I requested compensation, which was denied, on the grounds that the power outage was beyond their control. But how do they justify that on the day of my return, Transat and Sunwing were offering flights, and Varadero Airport was fully operational? And how can they explain that their cancellations over several days took no account of the real-time situation? In my humble opinion, it was first and foremost a commercial decision, not an "Act of God."
I’m going to appeal their decision with the Canadian Transportation Agency.
Best regards,
