Hi everyone,

We’re heading to Vienna in 3 weeks for a 5-day trip! After reading a few travel journals and discussions about this destination, I still can’t quite figure out what the must-sees are. Your itineraries are so varied that it’s hard to narrow it down!

Ideally, we’d like to explore Vienna without feeling like we’re stuck in museums. If you have recommendations for little green oases, short urban walking routes, or addresses for charming cafés, we’d love to hear them!

Thanks in advance for your help! !

hi most of the things to see are concentrated in the center. So with a city map, you can explore at your own pace.

Thanks for your reply!

I was mainly wondering what to prioritize since we won’t have time to do everything. Should we focus on certain museums over others?

Are there any tourist hotspots that aren’t worth it? Or, on the contrary, any hidden gems?

hi,

Are there any tourist hotspots that aren’t worth it?

not really—Vienna is a really beautiful city. What makes it special are the cafés, yes. It’s also a shame not to head to Salzburg as well.

Unfortunately, we don’t have time to stop in Salzburg this time. Maybe it’ll be the excuse for another trip?

If you’ve got any great café recommendations, I’m all ears! I’m especially looking for cafés that aren’t too crowded but are nicely decorated… 🙂

If you have any outdoor spots or walking routes to suggest, I’ll read them carefully!

Have a great evening!

I’m quoting myself to give you feedback on our 5-day stay.

We finally managed to pinpoint the must-see spots, in our opinion, from most to least important:

- Schönbrunn / Belvedere Palace / Museum of Fine Arts / Hofburg: these are the 4 absolute must-sees, I think.

- You can add to that: a visit to the opera / Mozart’s House and/or Freud’s House. These last two aren’t the most essential, but they’re still higher priority than many other places to visit.

If we’d had more time, we would’ve added: the Albertina, the Leopold Museum, and the Secession Pavilion. These are three nice museums to see, but they’re lower on the priority list if you haven’t seen the must-sees mentioned above!

For little outdoor walking routes: you can visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Karlskirche, and finish by the Danube!

About the tradition of leaving a tip for the server—it’s really hit or miss: some didn’t ask for anything, others added a tip without telling us (!), and others asked politely. For the last group, when a tip is requested, it’s for everyone at the table. So if one person leaves a tip for the whole table, it’s not enough (though the other guests can refuse afterward).
