Bonjour à tous, je me posais simplement la question suivante, en prévision de mon voyage : Est-il nécessaire de réserver à l'avance les hotels au vietnam, question de ne pas se retrouver à payer super cher pour un hotel qui n'en vaut pas le prix quand tout les autres sont pleins, ou de ne simplement pas avoir de place pour dormir ? Je traverserai le vietnam du nord vers le sud, et ferai probablement la visites des principaux attraits touristiques comme HCMV, na thrang, hué, hanoi, ha long bay, etc... Ma question vaut aussi pour la thailande, le cambodge et le laos, puisque je tenterai de visiter ces pays par la suite, dépendant du temps qu'il me reste sur les 2 mois. La raison pour laquelle je me pose cette question est que je préférerai ne pas réserver, pour ne pas avoir un horaire pré-établit d'avance et pouvoir me déplacer comme bon me semble, quand bon me semble, dépendant de mon état d'esprit. Je ne veux donc pas être obliger de me rendre à telle place, tel jour, parce que j'y ai une chambre de prépayée, si je suis capable de me trouver un refuge quand j'en aurai besoin sans avoir réserver à l'avance.

Il est prudent de réserver sa première nuit, histoire d'avoir un point de chute.
Ensuite, cela dépend vraiment de la période (et de votre budget) : quand tout le VN est en congé officiel, c'est difficile de trouver une place libre et surtout une chambre à sa convenance (même en cas de réservation) Il y a une haute saison, des week-ends de congé, des fêtes, tout comme partout ailleurs.
Parfois, il n'est pas possible d'avoir une chambre donnant sur la plage (Mui Ne, Nha Trang) et c'est un peu rageant d'avoir une petit chambre, une rue à traverser, dans une annexe d'un hôtel alors qu'on connaît les jolis bungalows donnnant sur la plage!. A Nha Trang, je me suis trouvée un week-end de fête, tout le Vietnam semblait avoir réservé toutes les chambres! Les Vietnamiens ont de grandes familles ou voyagent en groupe, de même que les touristes asiatiques.
Mais on a en général encore de la place dans les petits hôtels.
En janvier, nous avons descendu du nord vers le sud, nous avons reservé pour notre arrivé à hanoi un hotel recommandé par le G D R, North hotel 2 Pas génial, chambre hyper petite, cloison hyper mince, bref ensuite nous n'avons plus reservé et on à toujours trouvé mais en vérifiant avant;
Hué, hotel binh Duong 1, 10 dollars trés bien.
Hoi An hotel Than van 18 dollars avec le petit dej trés bien également
A Dalat Villa Hotel cité dans le G D R, un peu exentré mais trés bien bon accueil, restau sympa à coté
A Muiné bungalows hotel Xuan Uyen 12 dollars, les bus s'arrêtent à l'hotel, trés bon restau en sortant sur la gauche ( celui où il y a le plus de monde ).
a Ho Chi Minh on à fait plusieurs hotels dans le quartier de Pham Ngu Lao environs 12 dollars ;
si vous voulez des renseignements plus précis n'hésitez pas.

Je vous conseille de reserver par avance la premiere nuit, ca vous permet d'avoir l'esprit tranquille en arrivant.
Dans mles grandes villes et les lieux touristiques, c'est parfois difficile de trouver un hotel en arrivant l'aprés midi, vous pouvez demander à l'hotel que vous quittez de passer un coup de fil à l'hotel ou vous souhaitez aller, pour vous reserver une chambre, surtout si vous arrivez en soirée à hanoi ou hué par exemple. Ca permet de rester libre, et de limiter les heures de recherches!
(C'est valable pour le Vietnam), pour les autres pays, je laisse les connaisseurs répondre!

Cependant il y a des périodes où il vaut mieux réserver à l'avance. On vous a évoqué les fêtes officielles et les vacances des viêtnamiens, mais aussi des événements touristiques organisés par ci par là.
Il y a 2 mois, c'était la fête de promotion touristique qui a eu lieu à Can Tho ou il y a un mois à Halong. Impossible de réserver, tout était plein.
L'été prochain en 2008, fin Juillet et début Aout, il n'y a plus de chambres à Hoi An, où il est organisé l'élection de miss ViêtNam

Les chambres d'hôtel, ce n'est pas ça qui manque. Le jeu consiste à trouver une belle chambre bien située, à un prix que l'on peut payer. Quand on débarque de l'avion avec ses bagages, on n'a pas trop envie de se ballader en taxi pour chercher sa chambre. Il vaut mieux que tu regardes sur les forums, il y a plein d'adresses qui trainent pour les chambres à bas prix. Mais si tu as le moyen, tu fais google et hôtel HôChiMinhVille, et tu auras l'embarras du choix. Un coup de téléphone pour réserver sa chambre pour avoir au moins une adresse à donner au taxi.

Les vacances au ViêtNam commencent vers le 10 Juin environ, mais toutes les classes ne se terminent pas au même moment. Le prof est tenu de terminer le programme scolaire avant de fermer sa classe qui peut durer jusqu'au 20 Juin. L'été est la haute saison au ViêtNam. Les billets d'avion coutent plus cher à partir du 16 Juin jusqu'au 22 Aout. Il y a plein d'hôtels au ViêtNam et les viêtnamiens aiment beaucoup voyager à l'intérieur du pays, mais ils ne vont pas toujours au même endroit des touristes étrangers.

J'ai traversé le VN il y a 2 ans du sud au nord en juillet et n'avais réservé que la première nuit à HCMV et n'ai eu aucun problème de réservation sauf à Saba (train et hotels chargés, il faut réserver une semaine à l'avance )

En effet, je serai à Nha Trang pendant le concours miss univers, Je ne sais pas quelle date exactement, alors il y a de forte chances que je ne réserve qu'une semaine à l'avance... Est-ce trop risqué ?? J'ai l'impression que je ne trouverai probablement rien dans mes prix, mais qu'il y aura quand même des chambres de dispo quelque part. En tout cas, il est clair que je tenterai de reserver le plus tôt possible, mais ce sera difficile de prévoir tôt à l'avance !!!
J'ai une autre question : Après mon 1 mois au vietnam, je me dirige vers bangkok ou je repart en avion, un mois plus tard. Il me reste donc un mois complet de pur tourisme ! J'ai en tête de faire le trajet de 2 semaine proposé dans le lonely planet pour la thailande. Il me reste donc 2 semaines à partager entre le laos et le cambodge. On m'a dit de ne surtout pas passer à cote d' Angkor, mais que vientiane et Luang Prabang valait aussi le détour. Est-ce réalisable ? J'ai un budget limité, et je prendrai aussi souvent que possible l'autobus à la place de l'avion, mais si je dois absolument le faire, je peux toujours m'Embarquer pour un vol (le moins couteux possible). Bref, que me suggerez vous le plus entre ces villes pour les 2 semaines restantes ?? Je lirai tout vos commentaires avec attention et vous remerci à l'avance !
A Hanoï nous sommes allé au North Hotel 2, cité dans le guide du routard, la chambre que nous avions était hyper petite, c'était une piéce coupé par une cloison trés mince donc trés sonore, la patronne était sympa mais je ne le conseillerais pas.

Les chambres d'hotel sont, ici comme partout, "par chambre" et non "par personne". Donc, si vous etes deux et prenez une chambre a 15 USD, cela vous fait 7.5 USD par personne.
A 15 USD la chambre, tu peux trouver pas mal de mini hotels avec airco et sdb, pas directement sur la plage, mais a l'interieur de la ville (en general, cinq minutes de marche pour arriver a la plage).
Dans ces hotels, le petit dejeuner n'est pas inclus la plupart du temps.
Mi-juin, pas de probleme pour booker, je ne pense pas qu'il y ait d'evenement particulier. Les vacances sont etalees comme le dit Abalone, mais tous les week-ends, il y a du monde (Vietnamiens venant de Saigon ou des montagnes pour le we).
Le temps devrait etre beau et chaud, nous avons encore de la pluie le soir (jusqu'a avant-hier en tout cas), mais le reste de la journee, il fait tres tres chaud 😛
Conseil d'un grand voyageur depuis 30 ans: laisser tomber les guides, ils ne mettent que ce qui plait a leurs collaborateurs, qui n'est pas forcement ce qui plait au lecteur! A moins d'avoir une adresse recommandee par des amis -ou sur le forum- reserver une nuit dans un endroit bien selectionne (le Vieux Hanoi pres du petit Lac par ex.) et ensuite, voir. Personnellement je n'ai JAMAIS fait une resa d'hotel de ma vie, et je n'ai jamais couche dehors; en fait, etant parfois oblige de chercher un peu because trop de touristes, ca m'a permis de decouvrir des endroits supers. Evidemment, ca depend des pays: en thailande, il y a un tel nbre d'hotels partout que les resas a l'avance sont inutiles sauf week-ends -a cause des touristes thais- et fetes; au Cambodge, c'est pas un probleme non plus; par contre, a Hanoi, comme le seul quartier sympa est le Vieux Hanoi et que les hotels st tout petits, vaut mieux reserver. Une EXCELLENTE adresse (ca fait 3 ans que j'y couche): Thu Giang 2 (il y a un TG 1, mais chbres tres petites et bruyantes a cause de ts les grossiers personnages, jeunes pour la plupart, qui pensent que faire du ramdam a 6h du matin est normal; on apprend plus les bonnes manieres en Europe?); tres grandes chambres super calmes a $15 la nuit, et la petite LY qui vs organise tours, resas, etc. en moins de 2. I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

Hi everyone. As I’m planning my trip for next winter, I’m looking for hotel suggestions in Camotes, Bantayan, Malapascua, Bohol, and Siquijor. The ones I had in mind seem to be fully booked (unless it’s too early?). For those familiar with the area, is it easy to find accommodations on the spot in January/February? For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
