Après avoir écouté les conseils de pas mal de personnes sur le forum, voici un petit compte rendu de notre voyage a bangkok:
- Arrivée à Bangkok le dimanche 11 novembre vers 8h. Première claque en sortant de l'aéroport, il faisait vraiment chaud et lourd!!!
On a du attendre quelques minutes le temps de prendre un taxi pour qu'il nous emmène directement à la gare Uah Lampong, pour prendre directement un train direction Ayutthaya!! billets en poche en 2eme classe (pas de 3eme classe dans ce train la), environs 1h30 de trajet avec petits gateaux et rafraichissement compris dans le tarif du billet ( c'est bon ça!!!).
- On a passé la journée jusqu'au soir à visiter les temples de la ville, tous autant magnifiques les uns que les autres!!
- Direction encore une fois la gare pour prendre un train de nuit direction Chiang Mai (train couchette 2eme classe)
- Arrivée vers midi avec 2 heures de retard, nous mis pied à terre pour une nuit à la grace boutique house, tres belle guesthouse et pas chère avec en prime une piscine. Nous avons aussi réserver un trek a cet endroit qui c'est super bien passé!!!
Nous avons rencontré par hasard un français qui habité la bas depuis 10 ans qui nous bien aidé et nous a degauté un bel hotel pour pas cher et nous a conseiller pas mal d'endroit à visiter autour de Chiang Mai (je passe les détails mais je répondrais à chacun d'entre vous si vous avez des questions, no problémo!!).
- Visite de temples, grottes, sources d'eaux chaudes, achats, massages, treks, balade en scooter, soirées dans un bar sympa, saturday night market, sunday market, night bazar, quelques resto à conseiller...
- Après une semaine dans ce coin là, avion le dimanche soir direction Phuket!
On a aterri vers minuit, on avait donc deja prévu une guesthouse pasloinde l'aéroport et tout proche 10 min a pied de Aonang beach, le tanama house environs 20euros la nuit. Donc plage le matin pour se détendre et pour la première nager dans les eaux thailandaise, un régal!!! pas beaucoup de touristes et belle plage.
On pris un taxi pour Phuket town pour y trouver une guesthouse vu sur le routard moins de 10e la nuit et chambre correct. On y a pris des billets de bateau pour koh phi phi pour le lendemain matin! entre temps on a pu aller en scooter visiter la pointe de l'ile et admirer le coucher de soleil!!
- Donc mardi 20 nov. au matin embarcation pour Koh phi phi dont beaucoup de personnes m'avait déconseiller mais bon... On ne regrette pas du tout même s'il est vrai qu'il y a beaucoup de touristes mais bon j'en fait parti aussi et je ne voulait pas rater cette île surtout que c'est la première que je met les pieds au pays du sourire :). trè belle île magnifique paysage on y a fait une excursion on était a peine une dizaine sur le bateau pour aller faire du snorkeling du coté de phi phi ley. On y est donc resté 2 jours une nuit et on a pas du tout regretté
- Direction koh lanta toujours en bateau depuis koh phi phi du mercredi au dimanche matin, nous avons séjourné au Where Else super accueil et bonne ambiance sans compter la partie restauration un régal!!
Visite de l'île en scooter et bien sur playa pour le detente ceci dit beaucoup plus rocheuse qu'à phi phi. Tres belle île ou y règne la cool attitude :)
- le dimanche matin encore bateau direction koh Kradan petite île au sud de Lanta juste en face de koh Muk. On a dormi au Kalumé Village qui rentré dans notre budget. Le patron est un italien super sympa qui nous a même fait a mangé un soir!
L'île est petite mais la plage paradisiaque!! On est allé a koh muk voir la grottre d'émeraude c'est magnifique surtout que l'on était les premiers à y aller le matin, rien que pour nous!!!
- On y est resté jusqu'au mercredi matin ou nous avons pris un bateau direction Trang pour y prendre un bus direction Krabi ou nous sommes resté qu'une journée ou nous avons vu la fête de loy krathong, avant de prendre un avion direction Bangkok pour la fin de nos vacances :(
- Nous sommes resté à Bangkok du mercredi soir au samedi matin, nous avons fait quelques temples, parcs, achats au mbk center, tatouages, et soirée Muay Thai au lumpini stadium
Voila un court résumé de notre petit périple et si je peux aidé du mon ou détaillé activités ou lieu visité cela sera avec grand plaisir!!!!

salut, pour l'hotel grace boutique house aucun probleme d'hygiène dans la chambre, tout était nickel!! Il y a une piscine aussi qui est tres bien, voir la photo prise de notre chambre.
Après pour l'autre hotel ou nous avons séjourné le reste de la semaine se nomme le mandala house hotel beaucoup plus classe et avec une piscine aussi pour le prix hors saison c'est a 9e la nuit sinon ca double en pleine saison ( grâce à un expat nous avons la chambre au prix de la basse saison!!).

- Ou se situe koh muk on voulais aussi aller voir la grotte d'emeraude mais je n'arrive pas a la situe sur une carte .
- Quel place aviez vous pour votre soirée Muay Thai au lumpini stadium , on ma conseiller de prendre des places devant mais au prix de 2000baths .

A phi phi phi nous avons dormi au phi phi four season sea view qu'on avait bboké juste la veille avant d'arriver, rien d'exceptionnel hotel qui n'a que 8 chambres dans une rue passante en sortant du port sur la droite, chambre clean avec clim juste ce qu'il nous fallait pour une nuit ( les cloisons ne sont pas épaisses on entend tout ;) ).
Pour aller a koh Kradan nous sommes parti du port de KOh Lanta la traversé nous a couté il me semble 500 baht en partant le matin.
Au kalume village le bungalow en bois + le petit dej nous a couté 34e la nuit. les bungalows en bamboo seront moins chers.
Koh MUk se situe juste en face de koh kradan pas de probleme pour aller a la grotte d'emeraude, il faut y aller le matin sur les de 8 9h en demandant la veille à des pecheurs vous serez seul au monde, c'est génial!!!!
Pour le lumpini nous avons également payer ce prix la cela fait cher mais moment inoubliable egalement, a ceprix la on est juste a coté du ring et à la fin petite photo avec le vainqueur du gros combat de la soirée. il y a des places moins chers mais la vue n'est pas superbe à vous de voir.
- Ou se situe koh muk on voulais aussi aller voir la grotte d'emeraude mais je n'arrive pas a la situe sur une carte .
Tu tapes Koh Muk Thailande dans Google maps, et le tour est joué. 😉

Oui on part de l'embarcadere saladan, nous on y resté 4 nuits pour pouvoir bien se posé et se reposé egalement, si vous y resté un jour vous pouvez y faire du snorkeling c'est un tres bon spot pour ça puis vous baladez un peu dans la jungle il y a une petite marche qui vous emmene de l'autre coté de l'île. Logiquement la traversé dure 1h30 2h mais nous on a mit 3h car des touristes faisaient une excursion en meme temps du coup on s'est arreté faire du snorkeling pendant la traversé on en a aussi profité pour le meme prix, on aurait meme pu faire la emerauld cave mais il y avait beaucoup de monde, on est resté sur le bateau pour les attendre!!
Sur le trajet on s'arrete egalement pour deposé des gens sur les iles voisines avant koh kradan
Bonsoir.je suis très interessée par le Kalume village;Aviez-vous réservé à l'avance?et surtout, y a t'il un bon snorkelling en face ou à proximité car on veut y aller pour ça?à quelle période y avez-vous séjourné, car les prix que je trouve pour fevrier sont beaucoup plus élevés que ce que vous indiquez:34 euros avec petits-dej...moi, je trouve 1900 baths pour un bungalow en bois sans petit-dej...??soit environ 50 euros.

J'y suis allé a la mi novembre. Si vous y allez en février vous serez entrés haute saison d'où le prix et penser a reserver a l'avance vu la date.Pour le snorkeling pas d'inquiétude c'est un très bon spot!!! ;)

Si vous prenez le bateau depuis koh lanta vous serez débarqué sur l'île pas de soucis. Une fois sur l'île tous les hôtels et restos sont en bord de plage hormis un qui est au centre!!

Il y a une gare routiere à trang, le bus nous a couté a peu pres 200 baht par tête, pour une durée de 2 heures jusqu'à la gare routiere de Krabi.

On y est resté que deux trois heures le temps de prendre un pti dej juste en face de la gare et d'attendre le départ du bus à la gare routiere, leur tuk tuk sont sympas, leur calandre ressemble a des coccinelles!!
Sinon ça à l'air sympa et pas du tout touristique.

Petite question, tu me confirmes que le Mandala House à Chiang Mai possède une piscine ? Sur certains sites de réservation elle est parfois évoquée, mais pas tout le temps... et sur le site de l'hôtel directement ils n'en parlent pas du tout et pas de photo ou autre.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
