J'ai le projet depuis de nombreuses années de faire un road trip dans l'ouest americain, et cette année pourrait etre la bonne!!!
Je partirai avec ma copine, du 27 septembre au 13 octobre.
Jai preparé un itineraire, pouvez me dire ce que vous en pensez, je n'ai encore rien reservé donc je peux m'adapter, si cest trop chargé, ou si au contraire si je loupe des choses a voir...
Dimanche 27 : arrivé a LA, loc voiture et visite de la ville, holywood, beverly hills, santa monica, venise beach
Lundi 28 : Journée aux universal studios
Mardi 29 : Route jusqu'à las vegas, soirée et spectacle
Mercredi 30 : Journée a vegas
Jeudi 01 : Route jusqu'au grand canyon, journée et nuit sur place
vendredi 02 : Route jusqu'a monument valley, puis fin de journée au lac powell nuit sur place
samedi 03 : Journée au lac powell
Dimanche 04 : route jusqu a bryce canyon, balade dans le parc et nuit sur place
Lundi 05 : route jusqu à zion, puis jusqu'a death valley, et nuit sur place
Mardi 06 : route jusqu à yosemite, nuit sur place
mercredi 07 : journée a yosemite, et nuit sur place
Jeudi 08 : route jusqu a san francisco,
Vendredi 09 : SF
Samedi 10 : SF
Dimanche 11 : Route jusqu à santa barbara par la cote, et nuit sur place
Lundi 12 : journé a santa barbara
Mardi 13 : retour a LA, et depart
Que pensez vous de cet itineraire?? pouvez vous me conseillez sur les choses a voir dans les endroits ou je serais??
J'ai volontairement enlevé de mon itineraire moab par faute de temps et de budget, pensez vous que c'est une erreur?? car arche et canyonland on l'air magnifique...
Sinon j'ai un doute sur la journée entre bryce canyon et death valley, est ce faisable en une journée?? faut il que je zappe zion??
Est ce la bonne periode fin septembre debut octobre??

Vs faites l'itineraire classique, la boucle classique, en 15 jours, ce qui est possible mais reste chargé.
Dimanche 27 : a quelle heure allez vs arriver? car votre programme de visite de la ville est chronophage
Lundi 5 : vs pourrez faire BRYCE->DV, mais vs ne ferez pas de ballade à ZION: vs verrez simplement la vallée depuis la route.
Mardi 6 : vs ne dites pas ou vs voulez loger à YOSEMITE...SDur la route, vs avez MONO LAKE et BODIE
Dimanche 11, par la route de la cote, je pense qu'il faudrait mieux loger à SAN SIMEON CAMBRIA que penser aller jusqu' santa Barbara

Si tu pars par Air France, ton avion doit arriver vers 13 h 30.
Compte tenu des formalités, récup voiture...ton programme ensuite me parait un peu ambitieux.
Si tu n'a rien réservé, n'oublie pas de demander ton ESTA, ainsi que pour ta copine, avant de prendre les billets d'avion.

Zion est indispensable ou puis je le zapper pour privilegier dautre chose?? Avez vous des bon plan dhotel proche grand canyon. Lake powell et meme yosemite jai vu sur booking mais ca reste assez cher...
Les étapes sont cohérentes mais le rythme est très soutenu
Le premier jour, je ne sais pas à quelle heure vous arrivez mais il est impossible de faire tout ça. Si vous arrivez de France, au plus tôt vous atterrissez vers 13h. Le temps de faire toutes les formalités, sortir de l'aéroport, récupérer la voiture de loc... Tout au plus vous irez vadrouiller du côté où se situe votre hôtel. Ne négligez pas non plus les effets de la fatigue et décalage horaire.
Jeudi 01: quand vous mettez route jusqu'au grand canyon et journée sur place, gardez en tête que la route prend 5h et qu'il y a quelques arrêts intéressants donc même si vous partez à 7h, vous ne serez au grand canyon qu'en début d'après midi.
Vendredi 2: il serait mieux de dormir à Monument Valley
Lundi 5 est très chargé aussi. Bryce/Death Valley c'est 6h de route. ça laisse peu de temps pour la visite des différents endroits dans death valley surtout que le lendemain la journée est également chargée en route
Si les billets ne sont pas encore pris alors privilégiez un billet multi destinations, arrivée LA et retour par SF. ça permettra de gagner du temps à l'intérieur de votre parcours et d'aérer un peu
Concernant Moab (pas encore fait mais dans les tablettes) n'ayez pas de regret, vous êtes déjà très serré, vous ne pouvez pas en rajouter.
Non, c'était juste ton jour d'arrivée.
Maintenant les bons plans pour les Hôtels, il y en a partout, surtout que septembre octobre c'est hors saison scolaire pour nous au moins.
Regarde sur Expédia, Booking, Google sites directs des hôtels...tu auras une bonne idée en fonction de tes souhaits et tes moyens.
Pour Grand Canyon, certes il y a Grand Canyon Village, mais aussi, juste à quelques km, Tusayan qui est bien fourni en logements.

Un petit remaniement est nécessaire pour pouvoir profiter au mieux (évitez Las Vegas en début de circuit, c’est un détour alors que vs y passez à proximité entre Zion et Death Valley)
Dimanche 27 : arrivée à LA, et au mieux (si vs atterrissez ds l’aprèm) une visite au Griffith Park avec vue *** sur LA au soleil couchant, et puis dodo (bien mérité après une trèèèès longue journée exténuante passée ds l’avion) ds le quartier Hollywood tout proche (pour arriver le lendemain aux Universal Studios dès leur heure d’ouverture).
(Donc oubliez beverly hills, santa monica, venise beach …)
Lundi 28 : Journée aux Universal Studios > 16h00 + visite du quartier Hollywood + Hollywood sign? + Mulholland drive ? + Farmers Market/The Grove shopping (qui ouvre > 21h en semaine)
Mardi 29 : Route LA-Grand Canyon en faisant les arrêts sur la rte 66 (arrivée au Gd Canyon en toute fin de journée)
Mercredi 30 : Grand Canyon (puisque la veille vs n’aurez pas le temps d’y visiter grand-chose)
Jeudi 01 : Route jusqu'à Monument Valley en profitant des points de vue de la Desert View drive + Little Colorado + Muley Point/Goosenecks/Valley of the Gods (au choix !), et fin de journée sur la scenic drive de Monument Valley (comptez +/-2h30 de visite, à faire > sunset)
Ou (si vs voulez encore rester à LA la matinée)
Mardi 29 : Santa Monica/Venice Beach en matinée, puis Route LA-Kingman

Remarques:
Si vs aviez 1 jour supplémentaire, prévoir la visite de Santa Monica/Venice Beach en fin de circuit serait judicieux puisque vs y arriverez en provenant de SF en longeant la côte : vs pourriez ainsi profiter de la plage (comme vs en émettez le souhait ds votre projet), tout en évitant de traverser inutilement 2 fois (en aller + retour) la ville en début de circuit pour aller de Hollywood à la côte. Attention, l’eau y est glaciale, même en plein été…
Une nuit supplémentaire serait aussi la bienvenue à Page ou Byce pour alléger le rythme...mais bon, on a souvent vu des projets bien pires en terme de timing sans que la plupart ne s’en offusque🤪…

Pour LA / GC, Google maps donne 7 h 40.
C'est une donnée brute, qui ne tient pas compte des arrêts quasi obligatoires : essence, repas, pipi et +, photos, dégourdissage des pattes...
Ce serait mieux si tu faisais une halte à mi chemin, sur la route 66 par exemple.
De plus, en septembre - octobre, le soir tombe plus vite et donc le risque de croiser des animaux est plus grand...

Juste pour confirmer
Fin mai, on a fait LA à GC village.
Depart 7h30 de Glendale, un dimanche matin donc pas de bouchon.
Arrivée à OATMAN vers 12h. Arret OATMAN.
Ensuite autoroute jusqu'à WILLIAMS.
Arret assez long à WILLIAMS pour dejeuner et faire les boutiques.
Arrivée au GC Village vers 18h.
Sans trainer sur la route, on en est donc à 10h30 dans la journée
Tu vois, cela se confirme.
Il y a aussi, de temps à autres, des travaux, en ce moment si maps est à jour, pas mal de travaux à la sortie de LA.
Pour faire étape, Williams tu es assez près du GC pour le lendemain, ou Kingman, avec un musée de la route 66, et tu rejoins ensuite Seligman par la route 66 ( Seligman pour les CARS - super s'il y a des enfants, pour les grands aussi d'ailleurs ! )

déjà dit : De SF par la route de la cote, il vs sera difficile d'aller jusqu'à Santa Barbara.
Arretez vs à San Simeon , Cambria, San luis obispo...
Pour dormir, à SF comme vs aurez une voiture, Les motels de Lombard street seraient bien car ils ont de parkings gratuits;
A LA, le plus simple vu vos visites serait aux alentours d'Universal. Perso on a dormi à Pasadena.
Comme votre itineraire est chargé et que vs avez pe de temps, je dirais qu'il est parfaitement possible de partir de LV, voir les principaux points de la DV, et de dormir le soir à Mammoth lake ou Lee vining.

Ben là... tu le charges encore plus en proposant de faire d'une traite LV- Lee Vining (avec visite rapide de Death Valley... dommage d'autant plus qu'en octobre, il commence à y faire nettement moins chaud et qu'on peut prévoir d'y randonner pour mieux explorer ce coin qu'en été)
En fait ta proposition , c'est pour gagner un jour ? et où proposes-tu de le placer? ( ce que tu vas gagner d'un côté, tu vas le perdre sur l'étape LV- Lee Vining😕)

Ton nouveau programme (sans jours possibles supplémentaires) est tip-top (je ne vais pas dire le contraire puisque tu suis exactement ma proposition😉)... mais le lundi 12/10 , il faut prévoir la nuit au plus loin à San Luis Obispo (comme je te l'avais suggéré)
(Impossible d'arriver à Sta Barbara en 1 seule étape, ou alors tu ne profiteras pas de la côte)
Si tu veux alléger le rythme, il faut rajouter 1 ou 2 jours (comme déjà dit)... ou supprimer la côte (et prévoir tte la visite de LA à l'arrivée) avec vol retour depuis SF

De SLO, il est possible d'aller à LAX dans la matinée. Attention tout de même aux bouchons.
MAIS il vs sera impossible de visiter Santa BARBARA, Santa Monica ET VENICE, sachant que même si votre avion est le soir, comme il faut etre chez le loueur 3h avant le depart, vs n'aurez pas le temps de vs arreter dans tous ces points.
Pour LV->Lone Pine en traversant la DV dans la journée, c'est possible.4h dans la DV : ca suppose que vs randonnez.

San Luis Obispo- LAX, c'est 3h30 de route (attention aux bouchons qui peuvent considérablement augmenter ce temps de route.. il ne faudrait pas rater l'avion...)
A toi, de voir ce que tu veux faire/voir sur ce trajet et le temps que tu comptes y consacrer (outlets Camarillo, Paramount Ranch , plage, canaux de Venice Beach, etc...)

Oui, vu le nombre de km à parcourir, c'est possible de faire ce trajet en une seule journée... mais quelle course😕 (6 h non stop > Mammoth Lakes) : il ne te restera guère de temps pour visiter tt ce qu'il y a à voir sur ce trajet (bref, moi, je déconseille fortement, d'autant que Death Valley perd totalement de son charme qd on y est que pour 1-2h en plein temps de midi )
A la rigueur, prévoir la nuit à Lone Pine (Las Vegas-Lone Pine, c'est 4h de trajet non stop) et visiter les Alabama Hills en fin d'aprèm, c'est pas mal🙂

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
