Hi everyone, We're heading out again for a little road trip through South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. Quick question: we're leaving from Midrand, taking the N14 to Vryburg, then heading toward the McCarthy's Border crossing. After that, we want to reach the Mabuasehube Gate. The question is, how long does it take to get from Midrand to the Mabuasehube Gate? We plan to make one stop near Vryburg to fill up on drinks and snacks. Thanks in advance for your replies, especially if anyone's done this route before! JP M

Hi JP, You’re no spring chicken, so my answer probably won’t be much help, but hey, just for fun...

You don’t say what season you’re planning this for (daylight hours), but it seems impossible to do in a single day—especially in that direction—since the gate at Mabuasehube closes around 6/7 PM. Or is the stop in Vriburg not just for supplies but also to spend the night? After Tsabong, it’s rough gravel roads and then sand.

Have a great trip! [:)]

Hi J.L, For the route we know, especially since we did it in the opposite direction and had more time. This time we're a bit tight on time. We plan to stop for one night either in Kuruman (I prefer) or Vryburg. I wanted to confirm the driving time from the N14 to Mabuasehube. Thanks for your reply! See you soon, JP M

Watch out for food bought in South Africa to cross the border.

There are lots of restrictions...

Thanks Attila, We’re aware of it—it’s a practice we’ve been doing for years. True, you’ve gotta stay careful… Thanks again
